MAFS Recap: What Happened Last Night?

August 8, 2020 by tamaratattles 18 Comments

MAFS RecapI just fell over exhausted for like no reason. I can’t keep my eyes open. And I even took my B  vitamins today that always make me feel speedy. I blame the heat combined with the beer. Nontheless, I’d really like to watch this show and that means I need to do a MAFS Recap. I just have to know how Bennett and Amelia are doing. It’s a two hour episode so hopefully we get to the honeymoons. Oh, I forgot about all the meet the family stuff.

Amelia & Bennett

These two are adorable. Amelia is already wanting to consummate the marriage and she isn’t even out of her dress yet. Amelia keeps calling Bennett’s sleep shirt a dress. She thinks it’s great. The two nerds swap glasses to see who is the blindest. This is just so cute. Can this whole show just be these two?

Bennett goes to breakfast with Amelia’s mom and brother. She is thrilled with the match. Amelia doesn’t know where her medical residency will be. NOLA is her first choice (and she will probably get that pretty easy) but there are other far away places she could be sent. Bennett seems unaware of this possibility. Amelia’s brother Noah seems like a brooder unlike the rest of her family who is kind of kooky. Oh he just spoke up and is kind of fun too. Amelia meets Bennett’s family and his mother is even kookier that Amelia. Bennett’s sister gives Amelia a tootsie pop as a wedding gift. She tells Amelia that Bennett only wants to adopt kids. This is a problem. Later, Bennett confirms with Amelia that having children is not ethical. Ouch.

Brett Flirting at his bachelor party…

Olivia & Brett

Poor Olivia. She has such a positive outlooks about her marriage. She hasn’t really gotten to know Brett yet. All the newlyweds are being sent to lunch alone with the in-laws. That sounds terrifying. Olivia goes to brunch with Brett’s brothers. Brett meets with Olivia’s family who are super religious. Brett announces he is agnostic. Olivia’s mother says that her daughter’s pet peeve is rude people. Well, she just married the rudest guy in town.

MAFS Recap

Christina & Henry

These two are super awkward. They seem afraid to change out of the wedding clothes. Christina seems… judgey without saying a word. Christina thinks that Henry has nice female friends. His female friends are totally unsupportive bitches. One of them is Trishelle from Real World Las Vegas. Christina is a traveler. It doesn’t sound like Henry is.

When Christina arrives to brunch with Henry’s family I am shocked. I was expecting a buttoned up family. They are very down to earth regular cajun family. Henry has never traveled outside of the country. I also find that surprising. When Henry met Christina’s family he was super quiet. They pointed out that Christina prefers a lot of communication. >Mmmhmmm” Henry grunted.

Amani & Woody

Woody is best friends with Miles. Miles has unfortunately married Karen. She’s not worthy. Woody dropped by to check on Miles before taking his bride to bed. I appreciate Woody for knowing that it is his job to sleep closest to the door. You’d be surprised how many guys don’t know that. Woody is great and seems very pleased with his new wife. He is a smacker though. Amani is going to have to straighten that shit right out. Amani is very pleased with Woody too.

Amani meets with Woody’s family and there is some sort of disagreement over Woody’s temperament. His mother says that Woody can have an explosive temper at times. Woody let’s it slip in his meeting with Amani’s family that his longest previous relationship was three years and they both cheated.

Karen & Miles

Karen wakes up the day after the wedding feeling sick. She’s lost her voice. Miles goes to lunch with Karen’s family. Karen’s dad did not want to film. Karen’s mom does not look happy. I really with they would have paired Miles up with someone else. He seems like a good guy. Miles wins Karen’s mom over really quickly. He’s quite the charmer.

Karen goes to brunch with Miles family. Maybe Karen will turn out to be alright. Miles mother asks how she feels about “submission.” She prefers for the husband to be the head of the family. This match seems like a really good match. I’m warming to Karen. Miles mother might be a problem though.

Off To Mexico!

All the couples meet up at the airport to head off to Mexico together. They are staying at a gorgeous all inclusive resort in Cancun. It a really magical place. Henry is kind of a dud. Christina is disappointed that Henry isn’t more excited to explore Mexico. A traveler and a non-traveler never work out well. Miles and Karen seem to be getting along very well in Mexico. I’m happy that Karen is being good to Miles. Miles loves that Karen eats. They are a cute couple. Woody has me a little worried. What was that monologue at the end of the show from him all about?

I think Henry is “neurologically atypical”, and that is not a bad thing, but it requires Christina to take a different approach, and I don’t think anyone has clued her in. Henry’s dad doesn’t get him and now his wife doesn’t get him. I really wish they had matched Henry with Olivia and Brett with Christine. Maybe they could switch in Mexico?
I was pretty surprised that Olivia not wanting kids seemed to take Brett off guard. Making sure couples agree on the kid situation should be basic #1 on the “experts” checklist.

Can someone fill me in on this whole “submission” thing? I had to google it, and from what I can tell, I can’t imagine why anyone, of any gender, would find this idea even remotely acceptable or attractive.

There are many definitions of submission as it is a full spectrum. In this case, it simply means the husband is the head of the household. It’s traditional gender roles. It’s not a bad thing at all.

It’s to early in the day for an Irish woman to comment on ” There are many definitions of submission as it is a full spectrum.” as that comment could lead to :

        1. Good craic: A fairly ok night out, fun but nothing too amazing.
        2. Mighty craic: Better than good craic, not quite at the highest level, someone did some crazy stuff maybe.
        3. Savage craic: Almost there, great night all together, everyone on top firm, Guinness flowing, great jokes.
        4. Deadly craic: A step above savage but not quit the Everest moment.
        5. The craic was ninety: The nirvana of craic, everything was amazing, incredible, everyone hooked up, the pints were great. It was GRAND.
        6. Minus craic: That’s when a night goes wrong and essentially you’d have had more fun in a mausoleum.

Bennett you are adorable, you are going to fall head over heels in love with Amelia and discover “ethically” you and Amelia must have babies to bring more joy to the world….I adore his naivety… I may have to spring a little fairy dust.

        I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams…..Yeats

I REALLY need to up my poetry game. I’ve forgotten more than I remember. And I had miles to go before I sleep even back when I remembered. I do remember my favorite in the high school class was Edna St. Vincent Millay.

I don’t watch theses MAFS or 90Day shows but I may start. Or maybe not … I mean, seriously, how could the “experts” not put a person’s stance on children at the very top of the questionnaire?

@Nanette – I am reviewing my opinion on 90 days and MAFS it seems to be after Season 2 they become scripted. I do not watch BB so there are slim pickings.

            High 5 to Robert Frost.

“One thing there’s no getting by—
            I’ve been a wicked girl.” said I;
“But if I can’t be sorry, why,
I might as well be glad!”
From “The Penitent”, A Few Figs from Thistles (1922)

I adore Edna St. Vincent Millay.- AKA Nancy Boyd

Tuatha. There is a saying in teaching, “Meet the student where they are.” So, when they ask what time it is, you simply give them the time. Giving the intricate details of how to build a cuckoo clock only confuses the issue more. Once the are able to tell time on their own, then you can introduce clockwork mechanics if need be. When you give too much information they often jump to the most scandalous conclusion. And in this case the literal. biblical definition was the one being discussed.

Well, still not remotely acceptable or attractive to me, but if they are both into it, I’ll just keep my mouth shut and wish them well.

No one should ever be on MAFS who is too atypical psychologically. It’s not fair to the spouse to get saddled with a new spouse who is a stranger AND has some sort of psychological quirk beyond the normal stuff. Reminds me of what’s his name from last season who had anxiety issues. We see how well that turned out. I don’t think Henry will be explosive like that dude was. But as much as I think he’s a nice guy, he needs to start TALKING. Carry on a conversation. He signed up for this. Time to go outside his comfort zone and SAY WORDS. SPEAK, HENRY!

What I mean by “neurologically atypical”, is that I think he is on the autism spectrum. That is why he has trouble with interpersonal communication and picking up social cues. However, he has a successful career life, and a successful social life. He seems to be an intelligent, nice guy. What he needs is for Christina to understand how he thinks, and that he may process information differently. They could have a successful marriage, but someone needs to clue her in as to what is going on with him so she can adjust her style. It is not fair to either of them to just send her in blind and leave them unsupported as a couple.

@LG -Christina is conceited she could not remember her husbands name and called him “Luke”

Christina appeared disinterested in Henry as he spoke. Henry often was at a loss for words as he was to busy trying to figure out who the feck is “Luke”

Henry is just extremely shy has lost a substantial amount of weight, had major surgery, I think he is getting a bad edit along with his father as basically Henry is boring, has no adventure in his soul.

I do agree with you 100% on Henry with Olivia and Brett with Christine

In regard to the it’s to early in the day for an Irish woman to comment on ” There are many definitions of submission as it is a full spectrum.

For me “my definition of submission” would be a political one which is not worth talking about on Sunday, however if a group of Irish women were here with me then the craic would be 90.

Miles mammy used the wrong word in my opinion she should have gone with “home maker”

I admire Bennett for wanting to adopt. I find him fascinating and I want his marriage to work. Can we get a show with Bennett and Amelia’s family all coming together for Sunday dinner? Both sides of the family are fun to watch. I love the family and Amelia and Bennett.

I can’t believe this show had Brett marry anyone! Olivia is all in and he is just an awful human being. I hope he watches how he and his family act on tv and change for the better. Shame on the show for putting Olivia into this toxic relationship just for ratings.

It is painful to watch Henry. I want to see Woody and Miles have successful marriages. I like Amani, but I am still holding a grudge for Karen’s words and behavior before her wedding.

I actually like Karen and Miles. I am not getting Woody at all. I can’t tell if he’s sincere or playing to the camera and I hate cheaters but do believe people can change….verdict is still out. I think Christina and Henry will get over being awkward when they open up. I’m excited to see him learn about travel through his wife. Brett…no words. I’m getting better about Bennett and Amelia, I was concerned about two really quirky people together but living them.

I had hope that Christina and Henry will get over being awkward when they opened up.

Christina’s previously relationship was for around 6 years, I am not aware of how or why it ended but that is a large emotional burlap sack to be carrying when you quickly jump into a marriage with a stranger.

I am not overly fond of Christina as I am not sure of her motives yet.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Maybe. The kooky couple are fun tv. The others are tv tragedies but probably don’t care.

The kooky couple could be the next Mork and Mindy. Nanu Nanu.
