90 Day Fiance The Other Way Recap: Crossing The Line

July 28, 2020 by tamaratattles 30 Comments

I’m excited to do this 90 Day Fiance The Other Way recap. However, All I want to do lately is sleep. So this probably will not get finished until tomorrow. I love when I catch some Arabic words I understand on this show. I have a very, very limited vocabulary because the male Arabic instructor at my school was very mean. And as a southern child, making a bunch of unfamiliar sounds while learning a new language was …well I was not very good at it. Eventually, I just started going straight to the principal’s office and said “The Arabic teacher sent me here.” It’s in the top three of my life’s biggest regrets.

90 Day Fiance The Other Way RecapAriela & Biniyam

I simply cannot understand American woman wanting to go to ETHIOPIA to have a baby with a guy who has already done this once. Thirty million strikes and you are… dumber than dogshit. But please, let us continue like this is something even 1% of the population feels is smart.Oh look! Mama has a triple hotel room for the three of them. How convenient. But it was a very nice hotel IN ETHIOPIA. Ari keeps saying her mama will make her have the baby in American if the don’t like this hospital. She’s a nurse. The problem is she is too far gone to get back on the plane. Ari thinks she is going to have a private room for delivery! Actually, the hospital looks fine and there are private rooms. I am almost as embarrassed as her mother for being so surprised how nice this hospital is. It’s way better than the South African birthing situations we have seen.

Later Ari, Her mama and Biniyam go to an Ethiopian coffee house. I bet they have very good coffee. Apparently, coffee also comes with popcorn!  Mom is disappointed that the hospital was so nice. She was hoping to taker Ari home with her. So she takes a new tact and asks Biniyam to explain why his first wife left him. Sounds like she read some texts between another woman and Biniyam. He claims she is an old friend. Ari’s Mom nails him to the wall. He’s clearly guilty of cheating. And Mama knows there is no way he can support her daughter and her kid.

Tim (and his cat) & Melyza

Can I just skip this couple? They are not interesting. Melyza has a nice car. Why is it necessary to bring two dogs to an airport to pick up your boyfriend? And he brings his cat. Melyza says that Tim had gotten fat. Tim even says the dogs should have stayed home and now he has no room for his luggage, AND THE CAT. I really do not care about this couple. Tim has apparently been with  another international girl during their relationship. Tim is a dirtbag.  Melyza needs to run. Tim says that happened a year ago. Tim says that is part of “all the bad things they have gone through” not “All the bad things he has done.”

On Tim’s first day in Colombia, the happy couple set out to check out the city together. They talked Tim’s cheating. Did she not know all the details before? He cheated with a co-worker. Melyza is not buying it. Tim tries to say it is Melyza’s fault for being so far away. Have I mentioned I had this couple? Or more specifically, Tim.

90 Day Fiance The Other Way JihoonJihoon & Deavan

I almost went to South Korea once to visit a guy I used to date who was allegedly stationed there. But literally everything about him was allegedly. She is living with her mom in a hotel. They go to the market and they love it. At least they are not ugly Americans.  I should point out that this market is much cleaner than the Nigerian one. I used to love going to the souk as a kid in Libya. It smelled like cumin and everyone was very nice to us. Sadly, I have come to realize that I will never be able to go back to Libya. That was the number one item on my bucket list.

Click Here For More 90 Day Fiance The Other Way Recaps!

Deavan can speak a bit of Korean very well. But she can’t read it. She is trying to fit to the culture. Drucilla is having the time of her life. She doesn’t even flinch when she’s allowed two fish to buy for dinner and the guy cuts off the head and takes the guts out. She also eats the Korean food with relish. Clearly, she’s not one of those kids that will only eat chicken nuggets and fries. I am so enjoying these scene! She is a good little traveler! Deavan’s mom on the other hand… not so much. Deavan talks to her mother. She want to talk tela’selao Jihoon’s mom to find out if he is telling the truth or note. Um, what do you think?

Deavan Meets Jihoon And His Parents For Dinner

Deavan takes the baby and goes to meet Jihoon at his parents at a restaurant. Jihoon seems to clearly understand what he did wrong and why she can’t trust him when he chats with his parents waiting for her to arrive. When Deavan arrives, she is takes off her shoes (as one does apparently I imagine the pedicure industry thrives there). Jihoon’s dad realizing she is there stands up and tells his wife to stand up. She replies with, “Shut up! Don’t tell me what to do there is no need to stand up!” I love Jihoon’s mom. Jihoon walks right past Deavan and the baby with water for his parents. He can’t even face her.

Jihoon’s dad begins the conversation for apologizing profusely for not send her any support. Sadly, it is grossly mistranslated. So was Jihoon’s apology. This is going very badly. Deavan has no idea what anyone is saying, and I wish she knew. She says he ruined her life. That translated pretty well and his mother laughed? Jihoon storms off and tells her to go back to America (In Korean). This was a terrible situation in which no one understood what the other was saying.

Kenny & Armando

I was so happy with this relationship! (Not that it matters) But I feel like Kenny is going to ruin the best thing we… um… they had. Who moves to another country and disrespects it the way he has so far? Let’s hope Kenny gets his shit together. It’s only been two days. Kenny doesn’t get that being gay in public in some countries will get you killed. WTF IS WRONG WITH KENNY? He says “I would think he would be farther along than what he is.” regarding PDA. It’s the culture that is not farther along, not Armando.  I already want Armando to move home. As Armando says, Kenny has been out longer than he has (been alive) and he is worried about their safety.

They go to see Christ of the Sacred Heart.  Armando wonders if Jesus would approve of his relationship. I’m not crying, YOU’RE CRYING. And Kenny says that Jesus is all about love. Kenny is so pushy. The age difference is starting to show. Armando just came out! Kenny lives in a world where homosexuality is (mostly) accepted. Armando lives in a world where is it (mostly) not accepted. Stop being a dick, Kenny.

90 Day Fiance The Other Way RecapYazan & Brittany

Oh Lord (or Allah) here we go! It’s like day three of Brittany being in Jordan and it’s already a clusterfuck. The charming couple are off to a fancy restaurant to talk to Yazan’s uncle, Ibrahim about their situation. Oh my! Brittany greets the brother with a greeting we used in Libya. It’s the first time I have heard it on any show. Essentially during the conversation, the  uncle agrees to speak to Yazan’s father and make him understand that before Brittany converts to Islam. I feel like Yazan really wants Brittany to be clear on what she is committing to by converting to Islam and marrying a Muslim. I respect him for that. And I don’t think she gets it. But they do seem to be in love.

Next week: Will Sumit take Jenny home to meet the parents? Ari and her mom got to watch Biniyam perform a dance, with his ex girlfriend! Tim faces Melyza’s parents and begs for another chance with their daughter. Deavan and Jihoon have another serious conversation.

I can’t stand Jihoon’s mother. She is extremely rude and laughs everything off. No wonder Jihoon is the way he is. A mother in law like that I can live without,

Kenny really surprised me. He never learned any Spanish? He plans to live in Mexico…what the hell was he thinking? He asks what kind of food they serve at a food stand? WTH does he expect? Chinese? Why isn’t he more worldly at 57? Sigh.

I keep thinking he seems to have led a vey sheltered life, which seems to be very odd to think about a 57 year-old gay man. My gut feeling when he went to hold Armando’s hand was fear. It seems like such a small town, I am wondering what made them choose this place. I am assuming that in a bigger city, their neighbors would have more open minds possibly? Or at the least find a good support system. No, they should never, ever be made to feel shame, but a healthy amount of fear is going to keep them alive.

Traditionally prepared Ethiopian coffee is amazing beyond words and they do indeed serve it with slightly salty sweet popcorn. Ethiopian food is spectacular, too. I don’t see Ari and Biniyam working out. I think she had a fantasy of Biniyam from when she first met him and it was all physical. Now he no longer looks the same way and I think she’s had one foot out the door since the airport.

Watching that dinner between Deavon, Jihoon and his parents was painful. Jihoon’s inclination is towards being a deadbeat, but I honestly think perhaps some positive progress could have been made with the whole dynamic if any of them could have communicated more directly and correctly. That Google translate thingy was a disaster.

So the popcorn is kettle corn? Sweet and salty? I have to try that with my coffee today. Thanks for the lesson on Ethiopia. When the pandemic is done I want to find an Ethiopia restaurant and try the food.

The Google translate made the show hilarious but so sad for Jihoon and Deavon. I really liked Jihoon’s father. What a sweet, kind man.

I agree that Ari was in love with a fantasy and now that Biniyam lost his muscles and cut his hair, she isn’t into him anymore. Is her mom going to stay in Ethiopia until she has the baby?

Brittany is painful to watch because we know she is already married. How is Yazan going to react that he was with her before and she was married then too. He is going to flip out on her in a scary way.

It’s a bit like kettle corn, only somehwat more subtle on the sweet and salty aspects. There’s an amazing Ethiopian restaurant that opened near us about 3 years ago run by a family from Ethiopia. We’ve gotten to know them a bit from that and they’ve shared a lot with us about the country and culture, it’s all fascinating and very beautiful. Our whole family, including all my kids, are crazy for Ethiopian food. The little cup Ari had is my favorite pattern for them that they use at the restaurant. I think it’s really sad that Ari liked the idea of Biniyam more than the actual man.

I seriously don’t have any clue how Brittany thought there was any way forward when she had this giant ticking time bomb of a lie hanging over her.

Jihoon’s dad seemed to be trying so hard to find some way to work towards progress and I really felt for him.

Brittany not being honest with Yazan about her divorce is going to crush him when he finds out. Don’t see how Deavan and Jihoon are going to make it.

Brittany is a big fat liar. Remember when Rebecca told Zied she was technically still married? He flipped out and he has nowhere the temper that Yazan does. Or his mother! If they knew she was still married they’d probably have her stoned and I don’t mean with marijuana. We saw Brittany go to a lawyer right before she left to find out it was going to be complicated and take a while to divorce someone whom she had no idea where he was in some other country. Shocking, right? But did we ever see if she even started the process or did she just go bummer, and wander off to Jordan?

Brittany lying is disturbing me greatly. But what I wanted to comment was the uncle said that it is against the law to force Islam on someone. Doesn’t that kind of solve “that issue” then on to the next, lol.
Oh AND Brittany was married to a Muslim that she is divorcing. The world hasn’t changed since then!! She knows more than she acts, how could she not?

I understand Ari’s mom’s concern but asking if there was any baby-stealing at the hospital was so insulting. When we first met Ari, I thought she was a cool young woman with a lot of guts running around the world by herself. But now she just sits there like a lump while her mother does all the investigating and questioning. Perhaps that’s why she’s in this ridiculous situation now. She wasn’t taught to think ahead to any possible consequences of her actions cause Mom will get her out of whatever. Grow up!

I don’t know, I’m inclined to give Kenny some slack. He was probably daydreaming about the whole situation for so long and sugar-coating everything and then culture shock hits. Still rooting for them.

I got SO creeped out and uncomfortable when Ari’s mom started telling Biniyam how Ari has lived a very affluent, privileged lifestyle where she’s had everything and anything she wanted…it was like she was trying to shame him into telling Ari to go back to the states because he’s not good enough for her lap of luxury daughter. I think Ari’s parents have funded all her travels.

I caught the way she side-stepped that verbally, too. I think her parents bankroll her a lot and maybe part of her was hoping her mom would find everything in Ethiopia so unsuitable she’d whisk her back to the states and up her allowance. I think Ari acts weird for a grown woman. She is far past even 21 and she keeps saying things like, “I hope my mom doesn’t order me back to the states.”

I’m very disappointed in Kenny. In three years he hasn’t learned ANY Spanish? It’s not that hard to learn enough to get by. And that looks like a pretty nice area compared to a lot of rural Mexican towns. He wasn’t understanding Armando at all. It wasn’t about Armando being uncomfortable because of what people may think in a general sense. It’s about their safety. Even in the states there are still hate crimes against gays and others whose sexual orientation is different from the “norm”. Kenny didn’t do any research? Learn about the attitudes towards gays outside of resort areas? Until they get to know the people there, and the people get to know them, it’s prudent to be reserved in public. As reserved as Kenny is about food! Lol!

I have fond memories staying many times at the Rosarito Beach Hotel with my then fiance’. except for the time we had bed bugs in our bed at the hotel there and had to change rooms in the middle of the night!. The food is good there Lobster and Steak dinner is a must have. I can’t believe how cute Armando dresses little Hannah, a fashionista for sure! beautiful clothes!
