Open Forum: Plus, It Looks Like Covid Is NOT A Hoax In The OC!

July 25, 2020 by tamaratattles 162 Comments

RHOC recapThis is an open forum. But I did want to give some updates on housewives and the coronavirus. Sheree Whitfield had the virus, not sure if she still does. And Shannon Beador and all three of her daughters also have it. She announced today on IG that they are all quarantining in different bedrooms. It’s a bit late for that, don’t you think? The housewives are all over IG going out like nothing is going on. Garcelle and Sutton recently went out for a a social distancing lunch at a restaurant. They were in a booth. You can’t wear a mask while eating. I’d think that having lunch at a restaurant was not worth the risk. Particularly in California. Shannon has been seeing her boyfriend but it doesn’t seem like they are quarantined together.

I immediately thought about Kelly Dodd, who kept saying that there was no coronavirus in Orange County. And Emily Simpson partying with Shane in Vegas for his birthday. So many people not taking this shit seriously, and going about like everything is fine. It’s crazy to me. Things are worse now than when we were on lockdown in March!

Also, I am not sure if any of you are in south Texas and effected by the hurricane, on top of being a hot spot, I’m sending positive thoughts. But on to more uplifting subject. The weather is cooler in Atlanta which is very helpful, but that’s all I’ve got.

Your turn. Are there any good new movies on HBO or Showtime, right now? Just a reminder, I don’t have Netflix or watch any streaming channels. You are free to chat about them, I just can’t watch with you.

The virus is spreading like wildfire again in Las Vegas. I’m not sure if it’s because some people here didn’t take things seriously enough or tourists have been bringing it in with them now that casinos have reopened. Probably a combination of both.

We reported 138 new cases in Ontario today (pop.15 million). Some parts of the province are still in stage 2 (no bars, patios only, masks mandatory, etc). 66 percent of cases are 40 years old and under. We still need to be hyper vigilant! It is so sad to see what is happening in the US. I suspect our border will be closed for awhile.

As of August 1st, Massachusetts will require that people from out of state quarantine for 14 days or shoe proof of a negative Covid state with 72 hours. Violation can result in a $500 fine each day. Six states, based on their Covid status are excluded. I live in one of those—Connecticut—which is good because we’re renting a secluded house in a secluded town on Cape Cod in early September. I’m just hoping that Connecticut’s Covid status doesn’t materially change before then.

Perhaps this has already been mentioned but “My Brilliant Friend” on HBO seems to be great. I say “seems” because I only got to see one episode, I don’t have HBO, but what I saw was riveting. It’s shot in Italy and the acting is superb. A warning that there are subtitles if people are not into that.

Our weather in Anaheim has been blessedly cool for JULY. My friends in Palm Springs are sweltering!! Disneyland has been closed since Mid-March ? ?

HBO recommendations: Just looked, and I think both Yesterday and Long Shot are still playing there. Great films! I laughed my ass off at Long Shot in the movie theater.

I don’t get the quarantining separately, unless you can increase someone’s viral load or something? I tried Googling, but didn’t find anything.

Waiting for my South Korean version of N95 masks to come in the mail. The guy who invented the N95 masks came out of retirement to work on how to sterilize them, etc. especially at home. I forget where I read the article. Right now, he’s suggesting that if you have them (N95) have one for every day of the week. When you come back into the house, take it off (appropriately!), and hang it in an out of the way place and leave it alone until the following week. It is unlikely that the virus would live 7 days without a human being.

In other news, the grocery stores are packed today. My neighbor Matt went to two stores and the wine is wiped out. No Black Box Merlot at all. I got a Pinot a Cab and something else I forget. They are usually about $16 but he ended getting them at Kroger and if you don’t use a Kroger card, which he did not they are $25. GOD I HATE KROGER.

I have an affinity for our Kroger chain, Fred Meyer. They merged with Freddies in the 90s, if I remember right. But grew up going to Fred Meyer in Portland, where it started, and Freddies department store was one of our go-to shopping at college for a while.

But I won’t go in now and won’t even shop there through Instacart. The gossip is that my local Fred Meyer is apparently managed by an asshole. The manager was one of the Covidiots who don’t believe in wearing a mask, so won’t enforce the rules in the store AND all the others who don’t want to wear masks have been shopping there. So yup, outbreaks among employees.

So massive rioting in Seattle. So we’re going to have more outbreaks again. And we’ll get the mercenaries too coming in.

I have friends in local government, and when the protests began and then there were looters, the state sent word that that was organized crime, etc. I’m not convinced that some of the trashing of cars and businesses today wasn’t some sort of organized way to turn people away from the BLM message. I know in Olympia, they were blaming the BLM protests – but a known black owned business was targeted as well. (Windows smashed)

So Huntington Beach just had a huge church gathering of 1000 people on the beach and they were interviewing people. One person said “god would protect her”. The girl who color’s my hair, her mother said the same thing and she ended up getting it. She was going into her church friend’s homes, I do not know if she was wearing a mask or not. Luckily she didn’t get a bad case of it. I live in a gated community and I cannot tell you how many people will not wear a mask while walking their dogs or walking around the complex. I am in the minority when it comes to wearing a mask. What bothers me more is that the people who wont wear a mask and come super close and I am the one who has to move out of the way. Also the people who wear a mask or scarf as an accessory but wont pull it up to their face. Seriously wth.

My condo, I wouldn’t be able to go outside without running into people not wearing masks. EVERY time I go to get mail, etc. people without masks, talking to each other with less than 6 feet.

Now for something funny. Here in Cali we are lock down again and I cannot get my hair colored in a salon. I needed my hair colored because I had a video interview yesterday. My mother told me to get a particular brand and pick out the color. I picked a color called Truffle Brown and from the package it was a medium brown. My mother came over and put the color on outside on my patio as we both were wearing our masks. After she left I waited 45 minutes and rinsed out my hair. As I started drying my hair I noticed that my roots had turned out a reddish/burgundy colored. I looked crazy!! Maybe the color should of been called Bozo Red instead. My mother than went to Sally’s to get a brown rinse. I put it on and now it looks better but you can still see the red outline near my hairline.

Yeah I was supposed to get my hair colored for the second time when we opened back up (Cali). So I donated the 2 box colors thinking I wouldn’t need them (wrong!). I was supposed to go to my colorist house to have her do it (we both were tested) and then she went MIA. My mother suggested that brand so that’s why I got it. I don’t look like Bozo anymore. I will probably do a rinse until we open back up. Thank god the rinse color is working considering how grey my hair is.

Numbers are rising in the younger ages around here. So scary especially since, up until last week, officials were considering sending kids back partially. It was announced Wednesday that we’d go back virtually and I am thankful. As a pregnant teacher, I was severely anxious about what was going to be decided.

If numbers continue to go up, I’m hoping our governor shuts it all down again. People don’t care here. They’re going about life as usual. At least it’s mandatory to wear masks everywhere.

So I made cheesy rice and put it in the oven, I decided to put a slice of bacon on top. I’m pretty sure I bought that bacon and it has been a while since I was in the grocery and probably didn’t but it on that trip. So will I die if I eat it?

No idea what the time is there, I may be too late to help. I would think if it wasn’t slimy and didn’t smell, you’ll be fine. Probably even if it is slimy and smelly, there’s a lot of preservatives in bacon.

I am shocked the OC is experiencing a spike of COVID after they flouted masks and social distancing to enjoy their beaches.

Meanwhile, mamanana is unable to see her only granddaughter in L.A. I had a trip planned for her first birthday in April. Nope. A makeup trip planned for June. Nope. Now our Aug 1 trip looks impossible, too. I am miserable, but I am healthy. I know it could be worse.

My husband wants to postpone and I haven’t said yes yet because MENTAL HEALTH. I miss that baby with an ache in my belly. I’m so befuddled.

I hit a wall 2 hours ago any Brit in Spain as of 11pm this evening now has to spend 14 days in quarantine when they return to the UK – No hope of that happening.

I have just come back from Ireland dealing with Covidiots arriving at Shannon Airport who refused to spend 14 days in quarantine or wear a mask as they did not bother to check Irish Regulations plus the usual government/commercial cockwomblers.

Spain opened early for tourism and let us all out of Lockdown – 43% of Spanish between the ages of 24 – 38 are all asymptomatic, they only figured that out this week and cases are rising again in Northern Spain.

Norway have followed on with the UK – 14 days quarantine on return.

It is 1am in the morning and I have just been called into Gibraltar.

Groundhog Day – At least I might get to see my husband.

Why the feck would you want to travel abroad on holiday?

We are doing everything we can to get him here for Christmas to get married. He will have to quarantine for 2 weeks in a Sydney hotel at his expense. I also have a son in another state I can’t see, their borders are closed. I haven’t seen either of them since January. On the bright side, my business is one that thrives during lockdown and I am in a safe area that hasn’t had any registered cases.

I am tired, upset, and pissed about hearing and seeing many of my husband’s family members going on trips and vacations out of state. It blows my mind. They all work in public education and in health care fields. Yes, I am jealous because I had enough sense to cancel our family beach vacation. I used to really like these people. It just seems so tone deaf to go to Mrytle Beach with literally 35 people and post a hundred pictures. And others are going camping out of state. I can understand camping, but Kentucky has so many great places to camp/RV, why travel two or three states away when you can find a place here you have never been before?

    I just don’t understand.

Doesn’t make sense to purposely go to a hot spot. I wonder how they will react when I tell them I am going to avoid them for 2 weeks after they get back.

Thank you for the info about letting your mask hang out untouched for a week, that was a good tip! I only go to the supermarket, but I go once each week. Sometimes I get a little envious of people who are going out and living their lives because they most likely dont have little panic attacks if someone gets close to them in a store. Unfortunately, I am quite anxious about what is happening, and worry about what I’d do if I caught it. My kids depend on me, especially my daughter who has significant special needs. Jeez louise, if everyone would just be more cognizant of what’s happening maybe we’d be in a better position to beat this beast. I really enjoy reading about how you all are doing. I feel a bit better knowing I’m not the only one who gets nervous. You often make me laugh and teach me about things I didnt know. Thank you all and hope everyone stays safe and cool! ?

I work for a vocational school in Orange County and covid is real! My boyfriend had it got it from his work in the OC. I’m not surprised Shannon got it with her holistic non-chemical mumbo-jumbo that she believes in. I can see she would be an easy target for it. But the number keep rising in Red County I mean Orange County. I can soon see it become a epicenter for California.

I can picture using some kind of essence/spray to keep away evil spirits and germs. They weren’t wearing masks out there and definitely not social distancing, the sense of entitlement is amazing. I’m SO sick of hearing people talk about what they’re entitled to as Americans. There is no sense of community or of the social contract-we’re all in this together, that’s why communities were built! To support each other!

I believe the numbers in California are real. What we really don’t know is how many NEW cases there are and how many of the numbers are showing up because more people are able to get tested. No matter ,.. there are WAY TOO MANY cases. I really wish Newsom had left the bars closed. People relax their inhibitions when drinking. People hook up. Restaurants that serve food in Calif. can sell booze to go. Then people wouldn’t be INSIDE shoulder to shoulder without masks. Lots of bars have horrid frozen food they microwave (in normal times). Every bar could get a microwave and Costco frozen corn dogs or get a popcorn machine and sell booze to go so they can survive until it’s safe again.

And the army turning old abandoned hospitals and other facilities into covid units with more refrigerated trucks? What good is a mask order if not enforced? Why isn’t everyone at home scared AF? I didn’t really recognize the name when Yolanda first appeared on the RHBH and just figured he was just like her (he married her after all). He is a much bigger deal and way more accomplished than I had any idea. Yolanda is a very short blip in the documentary and he only says he did not divorce her due to her being sick and he will never say why he did divorce her. He seems very aware of his flaws and tries to at least recognize and repair where he can. That he is deathly afraid of elevators made him huffing and puffing up stairs more human.

Just finished Unorthodox. It’s good but you kind of have to be in the mood for it. I’m doing some solid work on the Netflix binge. Getting ready to watch Lenox Hill.

Glad you like it. My boyfriend, Paul Holes, is on tonight. (Don’t tell Billy Jensen!) The more I watch, the sadder I get that she is gone. The book is so good too. It reads more like prose than like true crime. The ending is PERFECT. Very prescient. That IS how it happened. The only thing she didn’t get was his roast in the oven. LOFL.

After stuff like this and The Alienist and Perry Mason and P-Valley and The Chi, the Shahs reunion is going to seem so … disposable… I only am watching for here and because I think this is the Swan Song. Who wants to see more of that? EDITED FOR COMMENTING VIOLATION. Let’s keep somethings to ourselves. Again, people from reality shows read here. No need to be cruel.

I don’t even remember what I said. Oops. I just wish it was the way it was when it started. Real friends. Having fun, feasting, sharing their culture with us. Jewish and Muslim Persians creating memories TOGETHER. What happened to all of that?

I began using those paper masks and then a friend gave me a cute cloth one. It’s cooler for whatever reason. We dropped Directv and got Hulu/ live TV and streaming. Also bought a Firestick. It’s saving us tons. I have enjoyed Better Call Saul the prequel to Breaking Bad. It just finished season 5 which was excellent. I don’t know anyone with Covid but my bestie knows a few. Luckily they were mild cases.

Bummed that I have to get at the crack of dawn to walk my dog at the harbor before most people are up so we can get some fresh air and exercise. I always wear a mask . Needless to say, most of the offenders down there are these middle-aged men walking around walking their dogs or hanging at the bar outside drinking already or going out on the fishing boats and they are the ones who are who are not wearing masks.

I ran to a small store where I buy cigarettes. On the way there I take a short little backstreet. There were TWO houses on this short little street with six or seven cars parked on the street and more in the driveway. WHY ARE PEOPLE HAVING PARTIES? TWO HOUSES within a mile from my house. I was the only customer at the smoke shop, but the friends sales guy was out from behind the counter to open the door for me with his mask around his neck. I keep that place in business, sadly. And they give me more attention than I would like. I’m just an invisible old lady most places. But not at the corner store.

It is a beautiful day in the ATL.

A friend sent us some of those Arctic Freeze cooling neck gaiters. I will let you know how they work. If you get the Dr. Suesses wet and wrap around you and Banjo, it cools dogs by 10 degrees, humans too. When I say, “Girls, come and get your bandanas wet…” they come a-runnin’.

I think we are through the worst of it. I also need a air filter but I can’t remember what size it is. And the older I get, the less comfy I feel on the stairs to the crawl space. As long as it gets down into the mid seventies at night, and I keep my black out curtains closed most of the day, it’s all good. It was quite pleasant today.

You might want to see if the delivery company called FAVOR has expanded to the ATL yet. It started here in TX and it’s a lifesaver. They will literally pick up anything for you. They deliver food from places that don’t have the usual delivery services, grocery shopping, prescriptions, will pick up your laundry and deliver it, and also will pick up booze or cigarettes! Like anything you can imagine and do the no contact thing where they leave it at your front door. Also it is on demand so you don’t have to wait for a delivery time slot. I just found out about them and they are expanding to the southern states first.

I could have had the neighbor buy cigarettes but they are outrageously expensive and I don’t have that kind of cash in the house. In fact, I am going to have to go to the bank soon. Prior to quarantine while I was stockpiling shit, I took out an insane amount of cash. After I did it, it was like WTF WAS I THINKING? Almost six months later I am almost out of cash. There have been three or four times someone has shopped for me, and I had big orders because even before the world ended I would buy multiples of things to limit grocery store trips. Still seems like a lot especially since I went myself maybe five or six times. But buying multiple cartons of cigarettes at a time has been eye opening. With the delivery thing you pay the store in advance, I can’t do that for the smoke shop next to the sex toy store.:) We have all your needs in a couple mile radius though! lol.

Fun fact, I haven’t taken clothes to the laundry mat since this whole thing started. I should probably go to the dollar store to buy more underwear, but other than that, I have a plethora of gray tees and black yoga pants. I have hand washed my favorite yoga pants in the tub. Don’t judge.

Sixty years ago I went through a period of several weeks washing diapers in the tub. On my sailboat I used a bucket & a new toilet plunger, That’s why I only carried hand towels on board. After returning to land it took me a year to go back to using regular bath towels because it seemed so wasteful

The HBO “Perry Mason” keeps getting better every week. Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, Susan are executive producers. Downey was going to play Mason, and I believe he would have been great, but he chose to have Matthew Rhys star instead. I think that was a wise move, Rhys is perfect.

“I’ll Be Gone In the Dark” is breaking my heart because every week I get to “know” Michelle McNamara better and wish she were still alive. The way the book and the show were put together is nothing short of masterful. (I have that Six Degrees thing going with GSK, but even if I had never heard of him, I would have marveled at this show.) Both of my boyfriends, Paul Holes and Billy Jensen, were on last night, breaking my heart with their memories of Michelle. And my new boyfriend, Paul Haynes, has done the same and made me laugh recalling the caper he and Michelle pulled off in last week’s episode.

I am saving Perry Mason for the weekend.

“I’ll Be Gone In the Dark” I am addicted to on so many levels – I have only watched the first 2 episodes.

Just watched “The Alienist” Episodes 3 and 4.

P-Valley Episode 2 is next after I grab some wine.
