MAFS Australia Recap: Meet The Family & Friends

July 12, 2020 by tamaratattles 23 Comments

It looks like we get two episodes this week which means another long MAFS Australia recap. So let get right to the show. It seems it is time to meet the families. That always goes well. Let’s see if Australian families are as ….direct… as American ones.

Micheal & Stacey

Micheal’s mom Julie “couldn’t make it to her own son’s wedding. But apparently she cleared her schedule to film a luncheon. Stacey’s family member will be a bridesmaid. I imagine that the lack of family representation is because some of the families live 4,000 miles or more away from Sydney where all the couples are living. I will never understand matching people at such great distances. They should just do a show in Sydney with Sydney people and the move on to Melbourne and Perth and wherever else they want to go.

It looks like the luncheons are going to be in the hotel rooms. Michael’s mom is the first to arrive. Stacey’s friend Brooke has come loaded for bear. Everyone gangs up on Michael for his partying. Including his mother. But in the end, Michael says his mom had decided he has met his match in Stacey.  While neither of these people are someone I’d just for a partner or a BFF, they do seem to be a match. They are both rather snotty and superficial.

Hayley & David

Just when we thought these two had worked things out, something seems to have gone left again. They got in a fight because Hayley didn’t like the movie they were watching and David felt like she was talking to much in it. Or something. I’m not really sure what Hayley was saying between her accent and me apparently losing my hearing. David got his own hotel room. But from the little I understand, David was the dick in this situation. And I like David. Or not, apparently she asked him if he was a “sook” which Google informs me is an Australian word for crybaby and asked if he needed a box of tissue. She say she way just joking with him. Really? These are not real issues, are they? Just last night they both chose to stay together and they can’t make it through watching a movie on TV?

These two at least get to leave their hotel rooms for lunch. David has two friends at the luncheon and Hayley’s Dad arrives with Hayley’s best friend. This is a very tense lunch. David says that Hayley was cutting him off a lot.  As Hayley continues to cut him off while he is trying to make the point. Even Hayley’s dad points out that Hayley keeps interrupting him. Somehow it ends with both of them feeling heard, even if not by each other, and willing to keep trying.

Connie & Jonethen

These two also slept in separate rooms last night. They also chose to stay together the night before.  Jonethen blew off a bowling date with his wife to go out drinking “with the boys” and apparently he never came home. Jonethen says that he told Connie he was out with the boys and she sent the thumbs up emoji. So he blames her. Jonethen’s mom and brother are coming for lunch. Connie’s mother and sister arrive to lunch but Connie has stormed out. She quickly arrived all cleaned up. Jon’s mom sticks up for Jon. Connie’s mom clearly hates Jon.  She tell Connie to pack up and go home with her.

MAFS Australia RecapMishel & Steve

Despite, Mishel having a list of grievances against Steve. And voting to leave at the commitment ceremony, she now says they are in a good place and she has put her ring back on. So they have just this week to agree to stay or things will end. Steve on the other hand seems to be ill with a stomach virus that we are given way too much information about. Mishel’s daughter and sister arrive to get the stomach virus over lunch. Steve’s crew is two of his closest friends.

Mishel’s daughter doesn’t seem to be sold on the relationship. She pulls Steve to the side to speak with him privately. Steve says Mishel is not willing to be vulnerable with him. Her daughter cries talking about what a hard life they have had. She says he mom has a hard time opening up. Steve is very sweet to her. He doesn’t like to see people cry. They end with a hug and a kiss. Did I mention Steve is sick? Steve is emotional back in the room because he doesn’t have a family. He was hoping his son could be there today. Steve just wants to be loved. Mishel realizes he is a good guy.

Aleks & Ivan

These two are doing fine for now, but I fear they are too the same, really. Her parents are refusing to film or acknowledge the marriage so her lunch guests will be two of her friends. Ivan has both of his parents as well as two friends. They are also having lunch in a restaurant when most of the others must cook from their apartments. I wonder if they said they would cover lunch themselves or something. I’d think a restaurant would be a much better venue for this sort of thing.

Ivan is worried about his mother. She asks a lot of inappropriate questions. Especially about intimacy. Aleks shuts down the question. But over all the luncheon went well. His parents approve of Aleks and everyone seems positive about the union. For once.

MAFS Australia RecapVanessa & Chris

These two both chose to keep trying to build their relationship. However, I don’t remember much about these two. There are too many people on this show. Apparently, these two are sleeping separately because Chris has had the flu for a week. It seems he may have stayed on the couch after recovering. Vanessa is now making lunch for the family dinner while Chris continues to sleep. Then Chris goes to workout leaving Vanessa to finish making lunch.

Vanessa has two friends as guests. Not sure who the couple is there for Chris. Vanessa tells Chris’s guests that while she’d love to spend more time with Chris, he is someone who needs more alone time. I recall things going so well on their honeymoon. Chris made Vanessa feel validated. But all of that seems to have changed. On of Vanessa’s friends ask Chris if he likes Vanessa. He takes much too long to answer. Then he says things have turned to shit. This causes a five between the couple that leads to Vanessa storming off. Chris does not go after him. Her friends tell him that she likes him and feels that he dislikes her. All of her insecurities are back. She’s ready to give up. Then Chris says he is out. The next day, Chris moves out. And so does Vanessa. 🙁

MAFS Australia Recap

Cathy & Josh

Again, who are these people again? I feel like they were fine on their honeymoon. They did the rappelling thing. But made the best of it and made out in the hot tub later. But things seem very tense. Josh is also on the couch. It seems some couples have two bedroom apartments and others have only one. Josh says that Cathy has shut him out. I am not sure what their issues are. But they have agreed not to talk about their issues at the family and friends lunch.

Cathy has two of her friends to lunch and Josh has him mom and aunt. Is this the couple where she said he doesn’t make enough money for her? If so I hate her.  Whatever the issues are it’s not for lack of Josh being hot. Because he is really hot. Josh’s mom is very nice and seems to like Cathy. Josh’s mom immediately wants to know if they had sex. His mom really thinks Cathy is great for Josh. Then Josh blurts out that Cathy got jealous of him talking to one of the other brides at the dinner party. She is shocked. Josh says Cathy won’t do anything with him. Josh feels rejected. His mother tell Cathy “Don’t ever ignore my son again.” Wow. But out, mom. His mom eventually softens. But Cathy is pissed. They made up afterward.

Natasha & Mikey

These two were just fine until asshole Michael gave a very slanted version of what Natasha said at the dinner party. I hate Michael. Now, Mikey has apparently been avoiding Natasha since the ceremony where he wanted to leave her. He has to get through a week before that can happen. I need someone to fix this relationship. It was my favorite of the whole show. Mikey is the best! He was just mislead by Michael and apparently they have not worked things out. They finally meet to talk. Natasha is blaming it all on herself. But she didn’t do anything wrong! She just made a small joke. The talk went well. However, Mikey still doesn’t get the real picture!

Click Here For More MAFS Australia Recaps!

Their lunch includes Mikey parents and Natasha’s Natasha’s parents. I believe these are the only two with both of their parents there. Mikey brings up the comments that Natasha DIDN’T REALLY MAKE at the dinner party. I wish they would play back the footage for Mikey! Natasha just cries. Natasha’s dad says she needs to just quit and come home. This is infuriating because it is all a big misunderstanding. Natasha runs away.

MAFS Australia RecapCHEATING ALREADY?

Those that have already watched this season have been desperately trying not to tell us about cheating that goes on this season. It seems that David has found out that Hayley has gone out on the the town with one of the other husbands!!! Hayley is out with Chris and Michael. Did you notice wherever there is trouble, Michael is always there? Hayley is “macking on” which I assume means “making out” with Michael. Yep. David is done. It is FINISH ED. And the only good news is this probably means we don’t have to see Michael anymore.

Oh man! I wonder if any of the other couples hook up. Or if any of them even stay together they all seem like messes.

Yeah. Thanks for commenting. More people really need to be watching this show!!! For some reason Americans refuse to watch shows like Ladies of London, and Tour Guide, and this show. It’s so weird to me.

I love the shows from the other countries. Ladies of London was one of my favorites and I loved the real housewives in Australia too. I also agree it would make more sense to pair people from the same area.
A lot of times people who live in the same area have more in common especially when they chose to live there so it would make more sense.

I love this version. And I love that we get two every week, it’s like a bonus ? With this virus not going away I wish these networks would air more foreign shows! English only please, Netflix has all the non-English I can stand.

I liked Real Housewives of Australia too. There was another one from somewhere in England and I had a heck of a time with the accents and slang.

Hopefully Michael will get kicked out if it’s true that he was making out with Haley. I tried to like Haley because she turned her life around and I give her credit for that. But she’s loud (not a fan of loud people, like a constant case of look at me, look at me!), interrupts constantly, and just rubs me the wrong way. They both need to go and Stacey with them. I tried to like Stacey too, tried not to judge all the fake shit about her. But she is fake. And superficial. Perfect match for Michael.

Sook is, in fact, both a noun and a verb. Sook means crybaby or a fit of crying or complaining and also to be crying or complaining.

So one can be a sook, have a sook or just sook.

    Common Usage:-

    “Don’t be such a sook!”

“I’ll bet she has a good sook about that.”

    “What are you sooking about?”

It’s never used compassionately, always dismissively. It’s perfect for when you can’t be bothered explaining to a third party what someone else is complaining about because it’s so petty so you say “oh, he’s just having a sook.”

It might be my favourite bit of Aussie slang. Well, that and bogan. Or doona. Or ‘spit the dummy’. Or arvo, garbo, ambo, servo…

      The Scottish Word: Sook.

sook: sycophant, crawler, toady, to fawn and flatter.

Scottish -“Ah’ve heard o sookin in wi the boss Smithers but this is takin it ower far. Yir fired!”

English -“I have heard of sucking up to the boss Smithers but this is taking it too far. You’re fired!”

Anyone else have a version of sook?

I LOVE this version of the show. Now I want to go looking for spoilers because 2 episodes a week aren’t enough. Even my wife, who judges me for watching this sort of garbage, is completely invested in this show.

Thank you for all of the great recaps!

Michael is a total dick, no spoilers there as you are already aware.

I hate Michael for ruining Natasha and Mikey, what an absolute asshole move. He thought it was funny? He needs his ass kicked in a big way.

Was he the one that pointed out Josh talking to other women to Cathy? I know he caused trouble for another couple and did it on purpose.

Can’t wait for this week’s episodes!

If anyone needs a little bit of clarification:

    1) Haley was the one who insulted David by “joking” that he didn’t make enough money for her by driving a truck. Haley’s problem is she just doesn’t know when or how to shut up! David said he “counted six times” that he asked her to please be quiet so they could watch the movie. Haley again “jokes” that since he’s so upset about it, maybe he needs “a tissue or a box” (of tissues so he can go cry about it.) This was also the couple that found out that they enjoy a “not very vanilla sex life.

    2) Vanessa was the one who said she only dated at night because she was so insecure about her acne scars. So she was, from the very start, desperate for confirmation from Chris that he found her attractive. Alas, she never got that so when Chris kept sleeping on the couch, she took that as proof that he wasn’t attracted to her. Them when they flat out asked him if he was attracted to her at their Family Luncheon and he took so long to answer, that sealed the deal. She had her “proof” that he didn’t like her looks and that was the end of that.

    3) Kathy and Josh – Kathy told Josh she was upset that he “seemed to be giving the other women at the dinner an awful lot of attention.” Josh’s reaction to that was less than kind. Instead of reassuring her, he cut her to the quick with, “I can’t be married to a woman who doesn’t trust me!” So Kathy pulled away, hurt that he made it HER problem instead of saying something like, “I would never cheat on you” or even, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you, I was just being friendly.” Kathy then went on to say that she had been cheated on in the past so that was a sore point for her and Josh doubled down, repeating that the marriage “wouldn’t work if she doesn’t trust me.”

    4) Connie and Jonathan – Connie is the marine biologist or something and Jonathan is the asshole who is convinced that Connie needs “too much attention” because when they moved in together, she asked him to stop constantly checking his social media or otherwise playing with his phone. So his going out with the boys and her getting so upset about that is just further proof to him that “she’s too needy, she only wants me to pay attention to HER and no one and nothing else.”

I think all the other couples were pretty clear in what their issues were.

P.S. I really can’t stand Hayley and her big mouth! She’s going to wreck things by constantly running her mouth!!
