Teddi Mellencamp’s Baby Girl Dove Needs Neurosurgery

July 6, 2020 by tamaratattles 28 Comments

Teddi Mellencamp's Baby Dove
Today, Teddi Mellencamp shared some news about her baby girl who was born at the end of February just before we all went on lockdown. During a recent checkup the doctors discovered an issue with her cranium that will requiter surgery. Luckily, the prognosis is good and she should be just fine. Still, with everything else we are dealing with right now this is a whole lot more for Teddi Mellencamp to deal with.

Dealing with anxiety, especially when in the “public eye,” isn’t easy; and going into July it’s at an all-time high. I was torn as to whether I should share this information, but as someone who tries to be as transparent as possible, and knowing I have a platform to reach others in similar situations, I would like to update you all. Our sweet baby Dove was diagnosed with Lambdoid Craniosynostosis and has to undergo neurosurgery at the end of the month. We are so grateful to have an amazing team of doctors and surgeons who have caught this early and will be working on her.

Teddi MellencampTeddi Mellencamp Remains Optimistic

Originally, like Cruz before her, we thought Dove had Torticollis and would likely need a doc band for re-shaping. Instead a CT scan showed Lambdoid Craniosynostosis (Lambdoid craniosynostosis is a very rare type of non-syndromic craniosynostosis and occurs when one of the lambdoid sutures at the back of the head fuses before birth). The recovery is about a week in the hospital and a couple weeks at home with a very high success rate.

So although we are filled with nerves as neurosurgery sounds scary, we have our faith that she will be ok. Please keep baby Dove in your prayers and if you have had a child with this same surgery, please let me know below, as I would love any additional insight and support. Sending ? to you all

I really hope they let parents at the bedside of babies recovering from surgery. That’s a big exception, but so important for all those poor little babies.

Most hospitals allow one support person for children.

I believe that they let at least one parent go in with them. If Dove’s surgery is at Children’s in LA (and I bet it is), and they are anything like Seattle Children’s, they will be absolutely set up to have a parent staying with the child 24/7. Probably not now with COVID, but at Seattle Children’s, they even have fridge space for parents, etc.

But their stay will probably be a little rougher in that only one will be able to go with her, and that one parent may not be allowed to leave for that week.

I’m really feeling for her and her family. That is a tough one. Tough on the little one, tough on the parent who stays with her, tough on the parent who stays with the other kids, and tough on the siblings (that would be scary, and no mommy or daddy for that week)

Really? I I mean really? A little baby has to have cranial surgery. And someone thinks it’s appropriate to make a comment about a grammatical error. Talk about having your priorities all f*cked up.

??????? for Baby Dove, Teddi and her family

I wonder why so many of the housewives children have health issues.
Do you think it’s the stress of being on a real housewife show?

There are over 100 Housewives. Kara wasn’t even a Housewife, so when you consider Housewives AND their children who have children, that is a lot of kids.

First time poster, long time lurker here. My son had this, but sagittal craniosynostosis. Which means that the top part of the skull was fused together. I don`t think he had the same surgery though. It sounds like Dove is having the “old” operation, with longer recovery time and an more invasive surgery. My son had the minimal invasion kind, where you use keyhole surgery, and they wear a helmet for 9 to 18 months after to shape the head (He was so cute in his little helmet) It was invented at John Hopkins, and is the preferred treatment here i Norway where i live. They don`t do the old operation anymore. My son was sent home from the hospital the day after surgery, and he had no pain that I could detect (He was 9 months) He is 4 now and perfectly healthy (With a normal shaped head) Wishing them well. I remember how scared i was before the surgery, so I know how they must feel.

Oh wow, this must be a very challenging time for them. I really hope the show starting again doesn’t cause additional stress. I wish dove a safe surgery, and the whole family peace, strength, and rest.
