Happy Fourth Of July! (Open Forum)

July 4, 2020 by tamaratattles 135 Comments

Since I didn’t make it to bed until five or six am. Um, sorry Nanette. 🙁 I am getting a late start to the 4th of July festivities. And there was also a major crisis! On of the man reasons I braved the grocery store recently was for hot dogs! It’s not the 4th of July without a chili dog or two. But a near catastrophe nearly happened. I LOST MY WIENIES!  I finally found them in the fruit and cheese drawer. No idea why I put them there underneath multiple cheese bags, but I did. I got a wiener frying on the stove right now!

That pretty much concludes my celebratory activities for the day. It is a beautiful day outside. It been raining forever but it doesn’t look like we are going to rain out the damn fireworks tonight. I’m not looking forward to Banjo losing his mind. We’ve had a few fireworks lately every night it hasn’t rained. I wish we could ban fireworks sales here again. People used to have to drive to Alabama to get them and that meant much less noise. Then it looks like bad weather again Monday through Thursday. UGH. Banjo and I both hate storms. Please send Xanax. Or wine. Or doggie Xanax.

What are your plans for the fourth? Click Here To See What We Were Doing on previous 4th of July celebrations!

Re: Doggie Xanax, I just gave Sileo to all of my dogs. It works specifically for noise sensitivity as-needed (fireworks, storms). Highly recommend it. It’s a liquid that you squirt into the cheek pocket. It really seems to take the edge off.

Apparently, people have been going crazy about fireworks for the last several weeks all over the country. Here in my town, people have been complaining About it on our Neighbors and Friends page on a FB for weeks. And fireworks are illegal in Connecticut. You have the drive to the Carolinas to buy them! Luckily, either no one is setting them off in my neighborhood or the air conditioner in my bedroom prevents me from hearing them. Enjoy those dogs. It’s lobster rolls for us this weekend.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a lobster roll. And I want one really bad right now.

I’m sitting her trying to figure out how I get gunk under my finger nails when literally all I do everyday is sit on the couch and then wash my hands WITH A NAIL BRUSH, eleventy billion times a day. I spent EIGHT DOLLARS on a thing of OPI clear polish and SIX DOLLARS for one emery board at the Publix. And my nails still look… dirty all the time.

Lobster rolls are so GOOD, the best one’s are on the east coast though. The lobster is different on the east coast versus the west coast. I had one once at a McDonald’s and it wasn’t bad.

The best way I get my nails clean (dogs, chickens, guinea pigs, cockatoo, gardening) is by washing my hair. It works better than a nail brush.

Lobster rolls are the best! I eat them every time I am in New England. Usually we go to Cape Cod sometime in June, but the in-laws are too old to have visitors in the age of covid, another bummer

Hi! I have a newish cat who did not live here last 4th of July. I think I am in for a long night. A firecracker went off earlier and she hissed and growled and ran to find the noise. I never heard her hiss and growl before. My other cat doesn’t give a shit.

You should definitely have a lobster roll when you get a chance. Have a good one like here in CT, not one of those sacrilege bullshit cold mayo alleged lobster rolls. You want a hot buttered lobster roll from a lobster that was in the ocean earlier in the day on a toasted hot dog bun with a Foxon Park soda. (Dammit, now I have to put on pants and go get one.)

I hope everyone who is here in the USA has a happy safe evening, and everybody else, raise a glass to us, and send us a better President for our birthday. ?

He’s already going nuts because some fools are letting off firecrackers right by the house. I’m going to give him his Benadryl soon. It doesn’t really help but I’m going to try it anyway. And try to distract him with treats and give him some CBD treats. And pray. I already need aspirin for my head.

TT, not even kidding, last night I was looking for the ibuprofen and I couldn’t think of what it was called. I said words, made hand motions—husband and son could not decipher.

I finally managed to string together a sentence: the things that make your headache go away!

I didn’t think I had the crazy, as it’s been years, but they did point me right to the bottle of…what’s it called again? ?

I’ve been to Paris many times and I live on Croque Monsieur sandwiches. It’s kind of like a grilled cheese with ham but… SO MUCH MORE. I love ordering them at all the cafes I pass when hungry. I should write a crogue monsieur guide to Paris with that one gyro shop, Au Jus included because it’s my first stop in Paris. On my first trip I went to a fondue place, but fondue for one was weird for me and my waiter and not life changing. I had a crepe when I was a kid with just sugar and cinnamon which embarrassed my parents I think. lol. In the Libyan souks there is this thing with a fried egg in batter. I asked to leave the egg out. I still liked it. I had this Canookian friend named Leslie who lived on my block. She was five years older than me (I was in first grade) AND SHE KNEW EVERYTHING. Especially about Donny Osmond and Jesus Christ super star… She told me that eggs were embryos and I haven’t eaten more than five since then. 🙂 She also told me that if we don’t start using our toes that humans will soon not have them. I BELIEVE EVERYTHING SHE SAID.

I often wonder where she is. I need her to sort out my life.

I guess my point was that I am all about having a food you like and trying it everywhere.

And also, I have to get up early to try and get into a dentist for a tooth I broke on Wednesday night and I DON’T WANT TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My college roommate turned me on to Jesus Christ superstar…omg I love it so much and no one I know has heard or seen it. I play it for them anyway.

No words about eggs. I love them, I think they are my favorite food…we have chickens for me. I completely understand your aversion but we don’t ever have a rooster so technically they’re “bad eggs”. As my Grandma once said, “those chickens can’t be happy!” Miss my Gram!

Aside from the sunburn I picked up yesterday in our son’s pool (fun day with grands, son, DIL and husband) I have had a good holiday thus far. I saw a trio of anoles outside of a convenience store this morning; apparently it was an attempt by 2 males to impress a female. Finished all of my weekly hunting and gathering by 11:30 am, came home and put things away and laid down to nap with the cats at one. Steaks and corn on the grill tonight, NZ Sauvignon Blanc and a husband who cedes control of the remote to me – could it get better? Happy Independence Day, ya’ll!

These MF’s have been lighting fireworks for the last 2 months, I am SO over it. The fireworks have been going off since 6:30am this morning (LA). I decided to start drinking at noon today since I really do not have anything to do. I did work in my garden and I untarnished my great grandmother’s tea set. Omg it looks so beautiful but it took 5+ hours to untarnish and polish 7 pieces (including a platter). That set hasn’t been cleaned in 40+ years so you know I had some work to do. I think I will now eat an edible and call it a day. Everybody stay safe.

will be picking the first load of climbing wax beans tomorrow. the eggplants are making baby eggplants with abandon. my porch pots are magnificent if i do say so myself – white lantana, red violet verbena, salmon geraniums, bulb fennel for foliage, and a fancy new orange flowered salvia. the pink perennial border is just stunning – pink pendant lilies and orange tigers, monarda (beebalm, leaves smell like earl grey tea) “judith’s fancy fuchsia”, the first pink daylilies, lavender sea holly, and pink rudbeckia. and everything is going to go from lush to limp with temps in the low 90s and no rain in sight.

Your garden does sound beautiful! I had a pretty good one going but with the heat and humidity were looking rough and I spied a few pests which were easily treated. Mine is not a real garden, but one of the potted plants variety that I evidently loved to death. I re-potted it all last weekend as they were needing bigger pots/more room and everything seemed to be fine. Today, leaf drop was everywhere and upon further inspection, the new potting mix was completely infested with the bad kind of worms and pests and everything was pretty much destroyed to the point of no return. I lost everything including my beloved lemon trees. Made me sad. I won’t be deterred though. I will try again as tending to the “garden “ is one thing that really helps take my mind off of all the other stuff. I hope yours continues to flourish and I will take joy in knowing that someone else has had success in this regard. Happy gardening and enjoy! ?

I used to put mine in the garage with a grow light and a space heater (not too close) when I lived where there were brutal winters. But if you have a basement even better. Just make sure it gets light and don’t let it go below 47-50 degrees Fahrenheit and it should be fine. Also, ease up on watering during winter. They don’t thrive in full sun anyway so don’t overdo it with the light either. Whatever overhead light u have in basement is probably fine just make sure it gets several hours of light each day. I kind of went by turning light on at sunrise and off at sunset, especially since less daylight hours in winter. Hope that helps. I love hydrangeas! Beautiful!

i’m zone 5 with a low of -20 degrees but with global warming, pretty much the absolute low is -10 to -5. putting it in the basement will be very easy but remembering to water it will not. actually i could put it in one of the basement windows. if i wash the window there will a lot more light for it. better add window washing to my to do list. thanks, IJC.

My hood used to always have hydrangeas and azaleas but they have mostly disappeared.I tried growing hydrangeas and they died every time. As it turns out they thrive best on the North and West ends of the house. This makes no sense me either. But after driving around the only ones I saw still living were in those locations. The good news is the neighbor’s north end of my house is outside my kitchen window. They don’t seem to do much for it but it is struggling along just fine. My north end is the end I never see and the west side is in the back yard that I also never see. So no hydrangea for me.

I was super depressed earlier because the 4th of July is my favorite holiday and me and the kids are stuck inside all day. I grew up out in the country and growing up my family always had a huge 4th of July BBQ with all their friends and their friend’s kids, with tons of food and fireworks.

The only way to celebrate here is to watch the livestream of fireworks at 10 pm. Well, the only safe way. And I don’t have any hot dogs or hamburgers! It’s not really the 4th if you don’t eat a hot dog. I’m just feeling nostalgic about my childhood and being whiney because I can’t give that to my kids right now.

But I am thankful for TT, this site, and all of you!

Omg I totally forgot about this one show called “Years and Years”. It originally aired on BBC but HBO picked it up and can binge it on demand. It’s an older show but it’s almost eery watching it now. It’s scripted and is portrayed in UK (think it originated from when Brexit started), but man, given what is going on in our country it’s amazing how it was written before the shit completely hit the fan in America. It’s a good binge. But it’s not mindless or uplifting although there is some dark humor. Just putting it out there if anyone is looking for a good binge watching!

Another older good one is “This is America” with Sasha Baron Cohen. Guaranteed to make you laugh and cry!

We are starting with small fireworks and he seems to like this game. He will probably puke eventually, but at least he is not barking. Thanks for those of you who sent Banjo treats. I wish you all a joyful laid back day – Meanwhile I am back to cockwombler’s holiday air bridges- 75% capacity versus 100% capacity plane loads of tourists landing in Gibraltar to gain access to sunny Spain.

I will be back later please have a drink for me, as I will need it.

Gibraltar airport is new, It is amazing however the runway is in the middle of a road which has to be closed.

The airline company wants to cram the plane to 100% capacity of tourists, – They should stay at home for another 2 months and support their local economy.

I am sure the Daily Fail will have lovely pictures of Englands 4th July, drunk people, no social distance, fights and they are all heading to Spain to party.

The airline company got a large grant from UK Government to convert to 75% capacity but has not complied.

Spanish border has nothing in place to check tourists etc – So the tourists can go to Malaga- Gibraltar is not getting drawn into a 2nd Stage by Boris without UK/Spain taking responsibility while Gibraltar is thrown under the bus.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! Tonight I went to watch a car show parade, but accidentally ended up in the middle of it. I had my male dog with me and everyone thought he was part of the parade and waved to him, so he was in heaven lol. I love muscle cars so I’m happy to see them..even from my car.

I made some Beyond Meat bratwursts and a cold salad. I’ve made a lobster roll before from a lobster mushroom, supposedly those mushroom tastes just like lobster, but I haven’t ate meat in 20 years so what do I know. Now I’m just drinking at home with the TV turned way up to drown out the fireworks, my dogs are kind of getting use to them as assholes have been lighting them off every night at 9:30 for at least a month now.

My treats and praise and pets and CBD treats and Benadryl are working well tonight. I think the key was to give the Benadryl BEFORE anything started and then the CBD treats and giving him way more attention than he ever gets. Things haven’t gotten serious yes but he is just “closed mouth talking” sort of at the moment. And he is loving all the pets and attention. So far so good but I know the grand finale is coming. I think he can have one more CBD treat for his weight. And of course the regular treats help. The peanut butter and banana treats from Trader Joes (Banjo says Thanks Nan and Cindy) are great because they are small and he loves them. YMMV.

T…does Banjo have a thunder shirt type thingy? It’s basically a wrap dress that’s adjustable for dogs and ‘mimics’ a hug. I had a homeless/abandoned dog that followed me home and was a maniac (tear through doors/glass/metal railings) when storms or fireworks were in play. Someone gave me the thunder shirt to try. He was too traumatized already for it to help but I still have it and its available for re-use. I’m in Atlanta, too, and could get it to you soon. We’ve had fireworks (sandy springs) for weeks with no discriminate times so I’m sure it will continue beyond this date. If you dont have the need, I’m willing to send it to anyone who does.

Some how the email I have for work has been signed up to receive Donald Trump newsletters, like within the last month. I delete and mark as spam, but I still receive 5-10 emails a day from him or his camp. There’s no option to unsubscribe so I wrote them and asked them to remove me. What’s even going on and how did they get my email? I’ve always been a Bernie Bro ?‍♀️

Your email has been sold via a marketing group which is why you are receiving the newsletter.

The newsletter may have an embedded algorithm ( similar to when you google an item and suddenly you are hit with adverts all the time specifically for that item and/or related products )

The algorithm is embedded in your browser so even if you had the option to unsubscribe it would be pointless.

I cannot help any further as I do not know your PC specs, software etc.

Hope I have not ruined your day.

It is actually an easy fix.

I love Greg Gutfeld, he is the only person omg Fox I can really stand. He is a middle of the road politics for the most part and is just honest. He first started off with Red Eye which is super late show and it was mainly comedians but he always brings in a good mix of people including comedians. If he thinks something is BS he just will say it which is refreshing.

It’s quite a time consuming process to get on the ballot. You have to have signatures and pay fees and sign up before the deadline in every state individually.

Kayne is only slightly saner than the current president.

I say people can vote for anyone they want to, but I will not be voting for the guy who refers to black countries as “shithole countries” and degrades black female journalists, and degrades Mexican Americans, and says he can grab women by the pussy because he is famous.

She’s not Georgian and she lives in one of the most expensive house in Atlanta, if not the most expensive. She also coincidentally got her money out of the market before the big crash right after a briefing about it.

She’s running a million campaign ads. She is lily white 1%. All of her ads are of crying black people so grateful that she showed up to film a commercial of her giving out food to the needy. And other ridiculous things. It irritates the snot out of me every time I see one.

The boxes are kind of dangerous. At first, you don’t have to worry about having a few glasses and the rest of the bottle going bad. Then, you never really have to consider opening another bottle for just one more glass. Then it is like having a wine faucet at your fingertips all the time.

I am trying to distract myself from my early morning dental appt for my broken tooth tomorrow morning. I’m watching a series on HBO called Here and Now. It was cancelled after one season. But I love it. Just because nobody watched and the critics panned it hard before it even came out, doesn’t mean it isn’t good. It’s from the guy who did Six Feet Under and other things. It’s kind of intellectual. It’s about a family with white parents. I think they have a white bio kid, maybe, and then a black kid, an Asian kid and a Hispanic kid. It’s about mental health, high school, racism, gender fluidity, religion, atheism, philosophy… and I thing that was the whole problem. They touch on so many things.

So, it’s a lot. It’s quirky and I am into it. Oh it is also set in Portland. Which is cool. Oh and infidelity and prostituion….see it is way too much for people to absorb if they don’t already know about a lot of it. And again. I’m the only person who likes it but Give it a couple of episodes if you are looking for something to binge on HBO. And I am only on the fifth episode which will make me late for Below Deck by about ten minutes maybe. And sadly 90 Days will have to wait until tomorrow because I have to get up at the but crack of dawn where my manical dentist who hates me for my lack of dental hygiene and my hatred of his horrific hygenists will probably not bother trying to save my tooth and just yank the mother fucker. I just want this to be over.

Oh and psychology and prostitutes and Iranians, and 11:11…. Okay. I’ll shut up now. I’m probably the only person who likes this show. I wasn’t all in until the second or third episode and now I really hate having to stop to recap Below Deck Med. soon. Oh and Islam and Farsi and a weird video game….

Sorry, Still watching this episode. Apparently, Portland was founded as a “white utopia”? I thought Portland was a very progressive place. I think it is now but it was not always. Also SHIT! Since I am taping two things at once I can’t finish this episode until after the Below Deck recap. ARGH. It was just getting to a good part.

Portland is schizophrenic. It is both a progressive mecca and a right-wing scary place. The latter always surprises me, but shouldn’t. I didn’t realize it was founded as a “white utopia,” but that explains the part I didn’t understand.

You piqued my interest. I’m recording it now. I’m also binging The Tudors, The Sopranos and Penny Dreadful. Lots of free time and not much new on TV .
