MAFS Australia Recap: A Dinner Party & The First Commitment Ceremony

June 24, 2020 by tamaratattles 40 Comments

MAFSA RecapI am going to need more of you guys to watch this show! The MAFS Australia recaps are very time consuming because every week it is two back to back episodes. But the episodes are GREAT and you guys are missing it! Last week’s episodes were the honeymoon trips and we got a great geography lesson about Australia. We also went to Figi and New Zealand and maybe even Singapore (?). So you guys should totally get caught up and get with the program! You are missing out! If you like the 90 Day shows, you’ll love this show! I really appreciate those of you watching this with me! And the new American season of MAFS starts July 15th!

MAFS Australia Recap
Josh and Cathy doing well after one week of marriage.

Lots of Fakery At The Dinner Party

We begin tonight with all of the couples returning to Sidney after spending a week on their honeymoon. All the couples will get together for a dinner party. Currently, we stand at ten couples so that’s a lot to cover in one dinner. Josh and Cathy are the first couple to arrive. They seem to be doing great. Then the other couples start pouring in. Then Dave comes in without Hayley! I have to go back and reread this post because I have already forgotten about this couple. Here is what did them in, “David says Hayley made derogatory comments about his hourly wage. Hayley is kind of a bitch. And David is the hot truck driver with a farm! She’s not good enough for him.” David very gallantly refuses to say why he didn’t arrive with Hayley. He says she should be there for that discussion. David does not want to be there.

The lesbians come in all smiles and holding hands? WTF? But then they quickly separate as Tash runs off to talk to the others. Tash has met the other women, but Amanda didn’t get to go to either pre-wedding party. So Tash abandoning Amanda was rude. But not as rude as Hayley trashing David in her car ride over alone. She says David has a bigger vagina than she does. Hayley is trash and David is a gentleman. Hayley starts giving a very biased version of events. She says she was joking about David’s money. She was not. Hayley is a disgusting human.

Vegans Are Annoying, Dreadful People

Everyone survives the overwhelming social activity and sits down for dinner. Dinners on reality shows are usually giant shitshows. We shall see if it is the same down under. Tash is again a bitch at dinner. Amanda is trying to help her find things she can eat. Like sweet potatoes. Tash snaps back, “How to I know that is vegan! Don’t serve me anything that is not vegan!” God I hate her. Hayley sits next to David and basically acts like everything is perfect. Then she talks to Steve and pretends like she want to stay on the show married. Steve then goes to talk to David. David tells Steve why he is out. Steve urges him to give things a little more time.

Poor Amanda is totally isolated. The other ladies don’t know Amanda. Tash goes around from female to female being extremely flirtatious. Tash is literally sitting on everyone’s laps and being way more intimate with them than she was with Amanda. Connie has really come out of her shell. It’s probably the wine. Micheal seems head over heels for Stacey. Why? She’s not good enough for him. Hayley tells Amanda (finally someone talks to her) that David is everything she wanted on paper. Amanda says when women get the nice guy that ticks off all their boxes, they are usually turned off. Hayley can’t handle the truth.

MAFS Australia RecapHayley Needs Serious Counseling

After Hayley’s talk with Amanda, she asks David to speak with her privately. I hate Hayley almost as much as I hate Mishel. Hayley is uncomfortably physically aggressive with a mortified David. That’s her problem she doesn’t know how to read the room. She is unable to see David’s position or how much she hurt his ego. Hayley  is unable to see his discomfort with her random unpleasant physical aggression. She doesn’t seem to be able to understand other people’s perspectives. Even when talking to Amanda she tried to physically cover Amanda’s mouth. She has no boundaries. Dear God! Every time he tries to get away from her she throws him back down on the couch. Oh! There is a commitment ceremony the next night. Hayley just doesn’t want to lose the paycheck.

Poppy and Luke barely interact at all. Can I have Luke? Ivan is on his best behavior. Yet Hayley still cusses him out and treats him like a peon. Somehow Aleks is pissed at Ivan for being attacked by Hayley. WTF? I love how Steve is presiding over this dinner. Apparently, on the Aussie version, the couples have a re commitment ceremony every week. Oh and it is not the next night. It’s TONIGHT! Just minutes after the dinner party.

MAFSA RecapThe First Commitment Ceremony

They couples are divided by gender and sent to separate quarters to deliberate. Basically, their peers will weigh in with advice. Hayley of course has a breakdown. Oh, maybe it is the next day. I dunno. It doesn’t really matter. Hayley is making it all about Hayley and how she as been judged and has to defend her character. Girl, we’re judging you over here in the US too and you don’t HAVE and character whatsoever. And you are judged because you don’t know how to interact with people. You sexually assaulted on man at the dinner party and verbally assaulted another. I think David has been convinced to hang in another week. Run, David, Run!

Cathy and Josh go first. They are happy as clams and totally in to stay. Then it is Amanda and Tash. Tash seems to think it is fine that she hurt Amanda. Because, “she was just being honest.”Tash is rolling her eyes and acting like a child. Shockingly these two choose to give it another week. Why? Mutual agreement for more air time? Tash could not care less about Amanda. Next up is Michael and Stacey. These two seem almost as happy together as Cathy and Josh. But they had a lot of issues on the honeymoon.

More Commitment Ceremonies

Connie and Jonethen both decide to stay. Up next, Chris and Vanessa make their decisions. I don’t remember anything about them. But they have decided to stay so maybe they will be more memorable next week. Natasha and Mikey also choose to stay. Much to my chagrin, Steve agrees to stick it out a bit longer with Mishel. Poppy and Luke are up next. Luke says that things were great at the wedding but Poppy just shut down after the wedding. But they both chose to stay. There are only two couples left and I presume they both leave, because I still have bios on two more couples.

Ivan and Aleks are called up next. I would be shocked if these two split. Ivan seems deeply in love already. But, Aleks is rather cold, so she could do just about anything. They both still seem happy at this point. So clearly, they are going to stay. But first Aleks says she doesn’t want to have to mother Ivan. Aleks says Ivan treats her very well but can be rude to other people. Ivan promises to be a good boy. Oh wait, Aleks says she actually had to think long and hard about her decision. But she decided to stay.

MAFS Australia Recap Hayley and DavidHayley and David Make A Serious Decision

Of course the last couple is Hayley and David. David brings up Hayley’s smoking. She says she bought her first pack in over a year on the honeymoon because things were so stressful. Then he brings up her mocking his income. This time she doesn’t even try to pretend she was joking like she did at the dinner party. Instead she says, “I’m pretty honest and I’ve go no filter.” WOW. Oh now, she is back to saying it was a joke. If your joke really hurt someone that you just married, perhaps you could apologize instead of doubling down on it. David tells her to stop cutting him off. He is tired of not speaking his truth. Everyone else is surprised that David is finally standing up for himself.

One of the experts tries to mediate and Hayley keeps interrupting him as well. She doesn’t listen when anyone speaks. David says Hayley is rude and inconsiderate. He says he can look through her past with drugs. By the way the rest of the couples probably had no idea about her drug addiction. Then he finally goes for the jugular. He says, “Here I am with a recovering drug addict, and a smoker.” Hayley cries and says she is such a good egg. Then she has a dramatic breakdown. They are going to try to corner David into staying with her. That is wrong. I actually forgot she was the one with the drug addiction. She’s just a horrible person. Hayley eventually apologizes to David. Then she makes it all about her again. Steve convinced David to stay. Noeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Next week, the couples move in together. I AM TELL YOU GUYS, YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS! It’s on Lifetime and there is still time to catch up!

I’m in this with you TT! It’s hard because there are so many couples; there are also different activities. The couples dinner/meet thing was confusing because I forgot who was with who.

Too many brunettes, if it wasn’t for the Kim Zolciak look-a-like who is not actually 47 and her 23 year-old husband I would not be able to remember her. Full Beard (for real) guy I don’t remember at all!

I’m hoping episode nine helps me out with these problems, I’m 12 minutes in.

I truly apologise. I didn’t realise I stepped across the spoiler line. This show is definitely worth watching especially once you get past all the weddings. It’s jaw dropping. I wish you were recapping when it showed here, I had no one to talk to about it. I am really looking forward to everyone’s perspective here.

No worries. I can’t find many to talk to about it on this side of the pond either ,… which is crazy. because I love a show in the pandemic that takes me to places I will never go.. And this crowd is INSANE do you always have so many people and it sucks that when I try to find photos they are attached to articles that say things like THIS ONE DID HORRIBLE THINGS TO THAT ONE or YOU WON”T BELIEVE WHO BROKE UP! I am lucky I have Covid Brain and can’t rememeber shit.

I am still trying to figure out how I can come track you down with the most short flights. I don’t see how y’all ever go anywhere.Other what is the closest jumping off point other than NZ etc? if you had to flee to another country other than NZ what is it?

Shortest flight to Sydney from the USA is from Hawaii TT – 9 hours. I have learned this & customs are nicer at Honolulu airports

I think I could do nine hours in first. I could do ATL to LA and check out Beverly Hills and meet all my online gay spies from WeHo. :). I’ve only ever really seen the LA airport. I flew out to drive cross country with a guy I liked from online. We drove cross country back to St. Simons, THE ENTIRE LENGTH of I-10. Texas is a hideously fat state to cross and our trip coincided with the LOCUST INVASION. The entire thing was horrific. He stopped for gas every time it was 3/4s full. The car got broken into in New Orleans, they stole all his shit. The broke the passenger window and the black plastic bag rattled the rest of the way. He would not stop overnight after NO. I need to stop thinking about this trip from hell.

My point and I did have one was I’d like to do whatever one does in LA. For a couple days, Then go to Hawaii for a lot of days, the to Australia for a few weeks (It’s a big country and I don’t plan to come back.) Then more time in Hawaii. Then a night or two in LA. Then back to the ATL.

It’s doable. Especially If Delta or an affiliate flies the the Honolulu leg.I’ll have close to a million Sky Miles by the time this comes to fruition. Hopefully by then air travel will be back to normal and the Delta Sky Lounges will be open again.

yeah it’s the Honolulu to Sidney leg that is most crucial to get First Class. I’m old and fat and everything hurts before being stuck in an airplane seat for 9 hours. 🙂

Let the games begin, if you can’t get the full show then people use Youtube as this is summer entertainment to the MAX.

Ivan is a weasel, poor Aleks wanted a husband got a man child.

Poppy and Luke- I thought once she got her head round missing her has kids she would fully focus on Luke…something not right with these two….Time will tell.

Stacey and Michael These two are a nightmare and I cannot wait for the drama….as there sure as shit will be some.

If Hayley is a recovered addict why is she drinking?…In a previous life I think she was a WWF wrestler…for a second I thought she had broken David’s neck when she came on to him…. David needs a security guard to protect him from his wife.

Connie is addicted to coffee and gets more animated by the minute however Jonethen and her could actually work…

Poor Amanda…Tash is just not into you…Run Amanda

I love this show!! Love it more than the US versions because it has more life to it. Plus Aussies speak their minds. I like the weekly commitment ceremony. Getting a little tired of Pastor Cal’s one-on-one questionable advice. Steve came close to it with David.
Plus there is no Jamie or Doug Otis!!! More than enough of them. So thirsty and always has been.

I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone watching some couples explain exactly why it isn’t working out…and then gleefully hold up their little restaurant folders that have STAY written in them. Tash and Amanda? Poppy and Luke? Hayley and David? Why??

This is my first go around with the AU version of MAFS and I’m loving the quick pace of the show.
Also good lord, I can’t not focus on the various plumped lips going on with the ladies. It’s distracting.

Tash is garbage for not introducing Amanda to the ladies she already met then shamelessly flirting with all of them in front of her.

Hayley is just awful with the lies and handsy BS that her husband is clearly not interested in. She was also pretty mean to Ivan. Ivan clearly can be a handful but he looked to be on his best behavior.

I’ve watched so many MAFS seasons and over the years my wife has just shook her heat at the thought that I’d choose to watch it. Well, we’ve both been sharing our home office since the Covid shut down in March (in Connecticut) and damn it, she LOVES this show now.

I worked in the Australian tourism industry (Specifically Queensland but I traveled all over the Country.) for over 10 years so I LOVE this show! Getting to see beauty shots of the Country and hearing the accents that used to surround me 24/7 is like Old Home Week for me. (Yeah, I changed my Siri voice to an Australian accent but it’s not really the same thing 😜)

I watch the show every week, just to see and hear all the things I’ve been missing for so long…

I love this show!! I may be in the minority, but I loved Hayley and David at their wedding, so I’m still rooting for them. She was weird last night, but maybe if they gain some common ground and trust, she’ll calm down a bit. I wasn’t sure if her crying jag was entirely real. I don’t know why I say that, it was just an impression I had. Which is weird because I totally lost it at work one day when I was falsely accused of something, so I understand being pushed over the edge like that. It just seemed like she came out of it kind of quickly and I looked much uglier after my crying jag. I’m sad for Poppy and her husband that she’s still in shut down mode. I’m absolutely thrilled for Connie seeing her so happy. Can we get someone new in for Amanda? She totally deserves a do-over. Given the hints from people who have seen the show, I can’t wait to see the future episodes! Thank you, TT, for recapping and giving us a place to discuss it.

I enjoy the larger group of couples and the format which allows for lots of interaction between them. I also love the weddings, so many out of this world venues. Thanks for recapping! This show is great! How can we convince ppl to give it a try? It’s so much more fun than the US version. The funny part to me is how so much the ppl all look alike. For the most part the guys are all cut from one cloth. Very similar tight brunette haircuts with tattooed arms and at least half the girls have the long black hair going on. It makes it hard but whatever. I also find in interesting that for the most part they all seemed so smitten from the weddings. It was like good match after good match. I know drama happens just don’t know with who. Has me on the edge of me seat.

Hayley made me so uncomfortable the way she kept grabbing David and trying to kiss him. He was trying to be polite and nice about it and she wouldn’t stop groping him. He nailed it when he called her rude and inconsiderate. She sucks so hard, but I’m still giggling at the way she wailed, “I’m such a good egg!” Definitely now my go to response for any situation.

Tash is only into Tash. The way she was hanging over all the girls was a clear message to Amanda. It’s understandable if she made connections with some of the other wives, but it seemed so insincere and obvious she was putting on a show.

With so many couples it’s just been a whirlwind of weddings, honeymoons, and the dinner. I can’t wait to see more of the day to day couple interactions.

Stacey and Michael. Her plastic surgery is distracting and I bet she was pretty before so this makes me sad. At first she only seemed interested in him for his money. He is a little strange and immature. Looks like they are happy so maybe things will work out???

Hayley is exhausting but if she could get out of her own way they could be cute together. Wish people would learn that a sincere apology will fix most problems. Guess that doesn’t make for a dramatic show if everyone shows empathy and mature conflict resolution. Might be fun for a change though, right?!?

So happy to see Connie and what’s his name so happy and comfortable together. I hope they last
    !
I understand how poppy is missing her kids but if she doesn’t at least try then the time away from her kids was for nothing. Wish she’d get her head out if her ass. He’s cute and cuddly and could be really good for her.
    Tash…ugh. Poor Amanda.

I would watch this, I’m crazy addicted to MAFS (USA)! I was only a few days into reading TT (and loving her site and her commenters) also, bravely commenting about some housewife shite when I discovered she recapped MAFS. Honestly, I was already was hooked but MAFS secured TT as my go to!.

Here’s my problem. Basic cable at the nurse’s house through Cable one, maybe 10 channels. I tried to log onto A&E but they don’t support Cable one. I have been looking at YouTube, mostly the Today show in Australia viewing interviews but I know that’s just not a very accurate picture of what really happened…probably somewhere in the middle but I’m dying to watch MAFS over here in the WWWest

I need understanding when I say I’m in the WWWest. I am ffs (sorry for the >18 language here) wondering why there were signs, “No mask? No entry”..at the Safeway in Winslow, AZ tonight. Everyone I saw while shopping had masks on, YAY! I haven’t shopped for approximately 8 or 10 days.. No one understands the “‘one way only aisles” with multiple children in tow touching everything plus, their masks!. Ok, I can wait, back up and wait some more. I witnessed one masked lady touch a whole lot of deli stuff yet walked away with nothing from the deli dept. plus she probably touched her mask a bazillion times. I’m checking out…the person behind me doesn’t have on a mask and os way bigger than me, please note, I’m wearing scrubs, masked and gloved and still approximately 5’10”. IWe have a bit of a stare down. No words were exchanged but I did feel challenged. He tried to start loading the belt before I was done with my transaction, had to keep my cart pushed back…he finally stepped back just a bit and and waited for me to leave.

    Why no mask?

I DO NOT U UNDERSTAND! It is such a simple fix, perfect? No, but VERY effective.

MAFSA is airing on the Lifetime channel. THAT IS THE OLD PEOPLE CHANNEL (I love it btw) so I can’t imagine it not being in the old folks home! lol. There are two new episodes tonight from 9 until 11:33. I am going to struggle to get recaps done tonight. I slept too long to get to the dentist today. My broken tooth itself doesn’t hurt, but I have a headache and I almost never have headaches, so I blame the stupid tooth, Now we are getting a thunderstorm which means Banjo will bark his ass off. 🙁
