Peter Hunziker of Below Deck Med Fired For Racist Social Media

June 17, 2020 by tamaratattles 80 Comments

Peter Hunziker of Below Deck Med Fired Bravo announced today that Peter Hunziker of Below Deck Med has been fired for “his racist post.” No other information about the post was shared. The short post on Instagram also said that the production would be reediting the remaining episode to “minimize his appearances. Most of the comments on the post were calling for Jax Taylor and Kathryn Dennis to be fired as well. There were even mentions of firing Ramona Singer.

I’m all for editing Pete out of the season. Both Hannah and Malia talked quite negatively about Pete on WWHL. I checked out his Instagram account and and didn’t see a racist post. However, the IG is so full of douchebaggery, I couldn’t be bothered to look any further.

It only seems right if you are willing to fire some over this issue then you should apply that to everyone.

Exactly, and Gizelle Bryant should also be fired for all her racist remarks about Candiace’s husband, because he’s white. And all her other racist comments about Ashleys husband and other racist comments about white people. But yet nobody is saying ANYTHING about her. Why? Because BRAVO are whimps. It’s ALL bullshit!!

Ridiculous. It is not a racist remark if it is about white people because white people are not systematically oppressed. It may be a rude remark, and may show some prejudice against white folks, but it is not ever going to effect the white persons job/standing/privileges. The BS is that you cannot see the difference and have to act offended when the offense has exactly no bearing on you and will never effect you.

Susan, I am white and have been treated poorly in a work place because of it Since I was a minority in that work place. Racism is for any minority and that can differ in different places.
I do agree though that what Gizelle said wasn’t racist it was just her stating they were white. She would be more correct to say they are just ugly men.

No. You’re wrong. Please go educate yourself. You may have been discriminated against but nobody was racist to you, a white person. Please please go use the internet to leatn about what racism really is before you just spout off wrong information and continue spreading untruths. YOU as a white person do NOT get to decide and define racism ina completely wrong way. It’s not ok.

Whiny white people stop with the “blacks are racist too”. You are not an oppressed class or race. That’s not how racism works. You’re probably the same people who claim that their First Amendment rights are violated when a private blog censors your post.

Once again, it is not productive to shame people for their lack of knowledge. Let me give a personal example. I was raised in Libya, and the deep south. I have a dear friend of over 20 years that I would probably be dead if he did not exist.

He’s gay. I’ve always been close with gay men. But when gay marriage happened. My Southern Baptist roots took issue with that. I wasn’t quite okay with it. He never screamed at me YOU NEED TO EDUCATE YOURSELF! He was patient with me. He was kind to me. He is actually the KINDEST MAN ON EARTH. BAR NONE.

He didn’t press the topic on me. HE SHOWED ME THE TOPIC. He showed me his religious values. He showed me that you can believe in God and be gay. He taught me so many things. He showed me love I did not deserve. He still does. He changed my whole life. MY WHOLE FUCKING LIFE.

He never screamed at me to educate myself. AIDS was probably still killing a lot of people back then we are old now and I am sort of ashamed at looking back at that time.

But what I do remember telling him was that I didn’t know if I agreed with gay marriage and was having some religious concerns. And this was in the 80 when shit was hard enough for gay men let alone some fag hag questioning.

NEVER did he disrespect me. NEVER did he let me even know I hurt his feelings. But I sort of felt bad about the wedding thing a few times. And it got me to thinking.

He is my favorite person in the entire universe.

He has forgiven me for so much stupid shit I do. There have been so many day I wake up and think… well I fucked that up. And he is always there.

He radiates love and acceptance. Not judgement. I wish you all knew someone like him. I wish you could all be like him, The glimmers of a good person you all see in me are from him.

So please, stop attacking each other and come from a place of listening and understanding. And if you can. I STRONGLY recommend getting a gay best friend. Gay men are the best thing in the world.

There are bigots of every color. Being white can get you killed in some neighborhoods. Systemic racism is a huge problem, but I sometimes wonder if people know their own histories and slave traders were frequently not white.

Also, many of those faces you see who have fought for rights and are currently protesting are white.

Black men are especially at risk from the police. Getting stopped and harrassed for “driving while black” or “walking while black” are not just catchy little phrases.

Like Lance Bass now saying how horrible Jax is … of course he knew this before but it was ok just a few weeks ago… no thats not right either he is just as at fault IN MY OPINION & things should go both ways Cheyenne should be fired too really they all should, Amber running after her kid with a machete… again who allowed them to stay & kept paying them $$$$ needs to go too! We are all people & instead of causing a huge divide we need to come together & in many ways educated & find ways to help heal the pain.

Your working definition of racism is nearsighted, and obviously inaccurate. But I completely agree with you that the power imbalance in a society is the point. It’s the reason racism is more dangerous and damaging to the target of the bigotry. The expectation that there is mortal danger when arrested for non-violent crime is the matter at hand now…it isn’t the time to care about the racism that hurts feelings, limits opportunities, etc. those commenters are making a false equivalency.

There is no lack of racism in any ethnic or racial group that I can think of. It is, sadly, ubiquitous in humans but not everyone in America has to go through life considering that they might die due to someone else’s racism. That part is what’s most important now.

Bravo can’t be our moral compass. If so, all hope is lost. If they’re purging some bigots, that’s better than purging zero bigots.

I am also black and old.

Below is a response I wrote to a white person on FB who claimed using the term Caucasian in a news article was racist.

The word racism, as a definition (not officially, but in cultural use), has changed over the years. It use to refer to the power dynamics of the dominate race (historically white) over other races. With the inherent belief that being white was the best race.

One of the new definitions for “racist” is a way to point out race of an individual in a derogatory manner. I.e, you call someone white or Caucasian to point out an undesirable characteristic.

So under the old definition, using the term Caucasian to describe someone could not be considered racist because white was the dominate race. Under the new definition the use of the word Caucasian to describe the shooter, in this could be considered racist (I wouldn’t, but some people may feel that way).

However, I really caution against calling out racism or racist behaviour against Caucasian’s because white people still retain the control over the systems in our society (I.e. politics, economics, etc.) so with the odds stacked in their favour, it’s hard to believe that Caucasians can experience the same or similar racism that people of colour experience on a daily basis.

              Just my opinion

        • Sally says

          June 21, 2020 at 6:10 pm

That is systemic racism. It’s only one form of racism. Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to physical appearance and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another. It may also mean prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different race or ethnicity

Black people can’t be racist. They can be prejudiced, yes but not racist. To be racist is to come from a position of power. That power has been wielded throughout history socially, economically, legally, etc. Thus making it impossible for black people to be racist for all the reason we are painfully aware of today.

That so many white people’s are taking a stand in solidarity with the black community, I have hope the tide us turning.

Max and Brett made the racist embarks BEFORE working for Bravo. They apologized BEFORE working for Bravo. Pete made his remark BEFORE working for Bravo.

Jax and Brittany made their racist remarks WHILE working for Bravo and have taken no accountability. Nene Leakes told a member of her comedy show audience she hoped the lady got raped after the show WHILE working for Bravo and has taken no accountability.

You are NOT FOOLING US, Bravo! Until you fire Nene Leakes, we know it is all based on money. FIRE your big moneymaker,Nene, and prove you are doing the RIGHT THING, not the money thing.

Kelly Dodd is literally on camera saying “Ew, I don’t like black guys” yet there’s been silence from Bravo – instead they chose to target two people that called (unresponsive) cops on a black woman 2 years ago to get the network Woke Points in the headlines.

They’re counting on Kelly to carry the new season without Tamra and Vicky so they’ve stuck themselves in a hole — ps Tamra is trying to take Kelly down with her now lol.

Imo this reinforces my initial reaction that Bravo only targeted Stassi/Kristen and the other two because they’re expendable and/or were discussing phasing them out anyways.

I had to Google to find out what that was. People are CRAZY. And not like my version of THE CRAZY, but like out of touch with realty entirely. I like the RHOSLC cast actually. Who is the whackjob?

The ladies on SC definitely got out at the right time. Not saying any of them have stuff out there, but they saw a sinking ship and realized they should walk away.

Bravo is definately taking a selective approach. Jax’s comments on the couple from 90 day finance (she has recently put up the DM exchange) as well as commenting on Ariana’s sexuality is wrong.

    Kathryn’s behavior, Kelly, ect.

Also, side note, I was watching Season 3 of RHOBH, and Yolanda-WOW! She made comments that would def. not fly today. Speaking to a make up artist she asked them to round Gigi;s eyes so she didn’t look so Chinese. And she tells her daughter, I thought you were going to grow up lesbian because you wore basketball shorts to school. Those episodes did not age well.

I welcome the conversations about racism in America here. However, I feel like things are starting to take a bit of an ugly turn. I’m encouraged that the peaceful protesters are of many races, genders, sexual orientations and cultures. So let’s work here to be a bit more inclusive. People from many countries read and post here. This is not just an American problem. I don’t think it is productive to split hairs over racism versus prejudice definitions. I think it is more productive that we unite to eradicate racism, and prejudice based on race for all of us. This is a unifying time for this country. Let’s work together to understand each other and make this country, and the world a better place. Hatred against anyone because of their race, is uncool. We need to all just be the human race.

      Thank you!
I’m not even sure there should be specific laws that separate people.
IMO, it just separates us even more.
Laws specifically for black people or gay people should not be necessary.
Every law should include everyone as equals.
A PERSON is a PERSON, and everyone should be treated equally.
All people should be treated with respect, and never judged until they prove they don’t deserve it.
We all have the same feelings inside.

They shouldn’t be necessary, but they are. I read a quote by Ava DuVernay. It was something like “The system’s not broken; the system was built this way”

If the law says people have certain rights on paper – it is irrelevant if over half the population isn’t considered a real person, or a full person. Women were not considered more than children, and our very Constitution defined black people as 3/5ths of a person.

I really encourage you to watch the documentary “13th” on Netflix.

It will change your feelings inside.

My point is that everyone should be considered a person!

You are right that so many aren’t, even us women. But it’s horrible that laws have to specify….Because they take so long to do anything. And one group might finally get something done, only for the next group to fight for rights all over again. It’s sick.

I just wish they could make a law that said everyone should be treated the same!

          Like the golden rule ~
Treat others as you would like to be treated. It covers everything.

But until everyone is INDEED equal, minorities or all types need legal protection from the the majority’s worst instincts.

What is this incredible social movement about? It started out as, and remains, a movement against anti-black racism. Anyone who asks “what about anti-white racism? Anti-jewish racism?” is really not paying attention. Your heart might be in the right place but think about it. This *isn’t* about them. Start your own movement! Black Americans have paid for this one with their very blood for centuries.

Here is what I say about the “what about”ers.

Would you go to a Cancer Research fundraiser, walk up to the organizer, slap her, and say “What about Alzheimer’s, YOU BITCH”.

No. You wouldn’t. Both are awful, awful things. But at that moment, the focus was on cancer. Anti Semitism is very real in this country, and often perpetrated by the same people. I’m sure many Jews can relate to the fear and extra safety precautions black churches have to take as many have to have security guards outside the temple on Shabbat.

“Sexism against men” is another good example. It’s not a real problem affecting a significant amount of men. Sure, there are a few example but it isn’t a culture-wide problem like sexism against women.
