Sorry about missing the last Family Karma recap or two. I have been on and off the struggle bus lately. As soon as I get off the bus, it drives back by again and stupidly get right back on it. And coming on right after RHOA was a lot for a Sunday night. Tonight is sadly the finale as we only got eight episodes. I just shot an email off to my best source to ask if they will be renewed. I think we all knew the answer to that before it started. But perhaps we will be pleasantly surprised?
When I first started trying to learn who was who on this show, the guys were particularly difficult. I have very poor facial recognition skills so I look for a feature to assign to a name. Tonight I am confused again because I haven’t recapped this is a hot minute. So I’m sort of starting from scratch. My mental note for one of the guys was “he’s the one with the big ears.” The problem is they all have big ears that don’t lay flat. And they keep throwing in a random extra guy and that doesn’t help the situation.
Dance, Dance Revolution?
The gang is all gathered at Monica’s dance studio to rehearse some sort of musical number. Or just drink a lot. It’s unclear thus far. Anisha and Monica are still on the outs with each other. Anisha and Vishal haven’t really repaired their friendship either. There is a whole lot of storyline to wrap up in just one episode! The guys attempt to practice their dance routine. Errrr…it needs a lot of work.

I literally just realized that Amrit has a beard and Vishal does not. Has it been this way all season? What is wrong with my brain? While Richa and her mom, Lopa get their henna designs on their hands, Lopa has a confessional where Lopa complains because Richa will not tell her how much money Vishal makes. It’s none of her business. The interesting part for me is that Vishal works for Richa. Did we know that already?
What Is With All The Egg Freezing On These Shows?
Anisha’s mom takes her shopping for new clothes for the engagement party. She fesses up to her mother that she lied to her father about her business finances. She also tells her she would like to freeze her eggs. Mama ain’t down for that. She wants her to just get herself knocked up the old fashioned way as soon as possible. She cries because she wants a relationship with Anisha’s children and she is getting older and worries she will die before meeting them. Well this is a sad, depressing conversation. Anisha has a lot of pressure on her. I feel like I should invest in the egg freezing business. I’m not kidding.

Bali is taking her daughter to get matching tattoos as a surprise. Supposedly it’s just a very small one on her pinky finger. Bad idea Bali. This is how full arm sleeves get started. It looks like her daughter chickens outs. She probably only wanted one because she could not have one.
Rain, Rain Go Away
It’s the day of the engagement party and it’s raining. The previous night was a dinner party for the families and Vishal is hungover. At the dinner party, his father could not remember Lopa’s name while making a toast. I can remember Lopa’s name and I can’t remember shit. Was this intentional? I am sure Lopa took great offense. The party was scheduled for the rooftop but is cold and rainy and might even snow in Miami! What is a “commercial real estate advisor”?

The guests pour into the party venue wearing a beautiful array of saris. I was a bit shocked that Richa’s ensemble showed all of her bare midriff. But if that was my midriff, I’d never wear clothes at all! The venue looks amazing. I wouldn’t pay $40K for a party, but id does look lovely. The rituals and prayers were interesting. But my goodness they were LONG. It was like a full hour straight. How did we not get a good shot of the ring? The scenes with Nicholas being upset because Amrit’s mom wants to introduce him as Amrit’s “friend” were sad.
Lopa finally treats Vishal nicely. She tells him that the party went great. She even hugs him. Twice! The party ends with the guys dance. And the girls join in. It’s like a Bollywood movie scene. So did you enjoy this series?
I hope this series gets renewed. I still am pissed that Mexican Dynasties was only one season.
And whatever happened to Sweet Home? I need me some Pumps for the Pandemic.
Are you going to do Summer Camp? Just wondering?
I need some Sweet Home too. That show made me lmao at least once an episode. I didn’t watch this one but will binge watch it at some point.
LOVE Sweet Home and I really liked Mexican Dynasties, mostly for that one crazy family – the singers who couldn’t possibly think any higher of themselves. What I liked most about Family karma is learning about their culture and the awesome Indian outfits.
Omg! Can you imagine what a hot mess Pumps has to be right about now? I may have to look for her on the gram.
Love it all.
Perfect recap, T.
I think it’s coming back.
The show, and our “normal” lives

I love this show. I hope it gets renewed. Thanks for the recap TT!
SOURCE says it has not yet been determined. I told SOURCE I know how things go. SOURCE says that if they are renewed they will be short seasons like Shahs is.
I binge watched all the episodes yesterday! What a great show!
It is a good show, and I enjoy it. I will be sad if it’s not renewed for a second season when others are able to drag on endlessly.
I DID enjoy this show! And NO, we DID NOT know that Vishal worked for Risha, which is why we need at least two more seasons. Tell SOURCE. XOXOXOX
Source feels the same. Sadly it is not up to Source.
Oh yeah – I thought that Vishal worked for his mother
Vishal works for his mother at Parvani Commercial group.
First time posting, but I’m an avid follower… I love this show! It’s refreshing, interesting and fun. I hope it gets renewed!
I am not the official greeting committe but I felt the need to welcome you.
I loved this show! It was nice to see genuine friends that grew up together. Bali was a big pot stirred and needs to quit trying to be one of the young ones so much. I started off liking Anisha but that changed as the season went on. I think it’s time for her to grow up and get her life together.
I agree with your takes on Bali and Anisha. Bali is in the unenviable position of being midway between the “aunties” and the “kids.” But she acts immature in her shit stirring. Anisha should hang it up as a designer if the fashions we saw were any indication of her “talent.” I would love to see a line of modern clothes with Indian influence. (I am old enough to have had a few Nehru dresses; I loved them and the Beatles in Nehru.) The fabrics she was going over with her production lady were HIDEOUS and cheap looking. I’ve seen GORGEOUS fabric from India. She is missing out on a unique opportunity. Then again, it takes some finesse to use influences that don’t end up looking like costumes.
Same! ✌
I loved this show!
I’d like to see the entire cast return for a 2nd season because they all have actual story lines. I like that the producers of this show appear to understand the necessity of authenticity (something I’d like to see return the the housewives franchise) and importance that all of the people have actual relationships outside of the show instead of being pulled from central casting.
Oh and Tamara, you’re correct that Vishal never had facial hair and Amrit is the one with the beard 🙂
I really love the show and would love to see it renewed but my fear is that after a couple seasons is going to turn into a big old mess like Shahs. The Producers seem to ruin any good show talking about that tattoo my daughter told me her entire teenage years that when she turned 18 she was getting a tattoo and there was nothing I can do about it well she’s 20 now still hasn’t come home with that tattoo I think the thrill is the fact that I might have ject now I don’t care
I hope it is renewed too. The show was fun to watch because the people seemed to have genuine relationships. Plus the mix of young & old was entertaining. I loved watching the parents with their kids. And for someone like me who knows next to nothing about Indian culture, the show was fascinating.
Exactly!
Thanks for the recap TT.
I like this show, way better than Shahs!! Hope it gets renewed!
I love the show and I hope it is renewed. I get the girls confused, except Anisha because her monotone vocal fry voice reminds me of Kourtney Kardashian. Love Vishal, Brian and Monica. All the parents and Anisha’s grandfather are a trip. The engagement ceremony was interesting, the clothing was beautiful and the fruit platters made me hungry. All I had in the fridge was a watermelon ice pop and a slightly rusted can of Geisha mandarin oranges.
Canned mandarins…mmm.
I keep forgetting to buy them.
So good with yogurt and granola! ?
I had to go out and get a fresh can LOL
Tamara, in the beginning you said that vishal liked like a cartoon character. You were absolutely right! With those big eyes, he looks like q Disney prince or hero. I just can’t think of which one. I loved the show and the family values.
Bummer about Amrit’s mom introducing Nicolas as a friend. Previously she had seemed cool with it.
I like this show. I hope it’s renewed. I thought it was going to be fake storylines but they ended up being realistic. I love the parents being part of the show. I like this show much better than Shahs. They don’t have the LA superficial effect like Shahs.
I think one thing that made this show so good was that it wasn’t a bunch of overage drunken ragers. They have their fun and drink and tussle, but nothing really destructive like Shahs. The parents are in the show not to make fun of, but to learn from and teach to. You can see the love and respect between the generations. Like when Shahs was new, this gave us a fun peek into another culture’s food and customs. Shahs now is so out of touch, it gave us kalua pig for a Jewish woman’s (fake) birthday celebration.
I sure hope Vishal is over THE CORONA.
Such a good show with insights into the Indian population in America. I particularly love Anisha. Want to see her collection. Please make sure that this program is renewed.
