Tonight’s Recaps May Be Delayed

April 12, 2020 by tamaratattles 63 Comments

The local weather folks are scaring the crap out of me. We have two bands of very strong storms coming through. The first one is expected around 8pm. The second on is supposed to be the worst and will arrive around 2am. They are practically guaranteeing tornadoes. They emphasis that they will be STRONG tornadoes. Also lots of lightning and hail. I am terrified. They are showing flattened houses in Mississippi and Alabama. My little shack could blow over in a strong wind.

So not sure that recaps are going to happen. I hope you guys are all safe tonight. I am not sure how much more stress I can take. This is some scary shit. I’ve got to go make sure my flashlights have batteries and prepare the tornado shelter.

Yes, everyone be extra safe as these storms are not going to be good by any means. I’m in Ontario, Canada and they are talking about bombs of cyclones going through our area tomorrow. How much more can we take… please enough lives have been lost thru Covid but hopefully not in any of these storms.

“For the first time in years, part of north Georgia is under a level 4 of 5 threat for severe weather, including metro #Atlanta. Much of the rest of the state is under a level 3 of 5.Damaging wind gusts and tornadoes, some strong, are the biggest concerns. We don’t give out “high” tornado threats very often.”

I keep trying to find a less hysterical newscast. And Channel 2 promised they were staying on the air all night and yet right now they are running some sort of stupid home video shows or something.

So I was going to try to do RHOA to try to distract myself as one station says is giving a later time of death. And as soon as I made that decision GA got our first tornado warning. It is terrifying. So I will watch American Idol as the weatherman is coming on TV there. This will be happening until four or five am.

But it is also only 47 minutes long. I am watching DVRed stuff so I can flip back in forth for the death forecast.

Okay it looks like the 8pm storms went north of Atlanta. We had one tornado up there. It hit a trailer park. Why does that always happen. People are trapped in their trailers. The metro area is not getting hit until 1 or 2 am. I am just going to pass out in my tornado shelter in the “hallway.” It’s not a hall at all. it is just where all the doors open to the center. And for some reason, when my brother redid this house years ago after a fire, he put is crappy fucking everything EXCEPT for some reason he put in very heavy, very strong wood doors so I shut them all tight and stay there hoping for the best. Banjo and I have hunkered down there many times. I used to think maybe the cast iron bathtub was better. But a giant fat lady and an 80 pound dog is just too much for the tub. 🙂

Tamara, I’m in Mississippi. The second round was really fast, just straight line winds (no tornadoes, as opposed to the first round), and while there are a lot of trees down and power outages, the second round is way better than the first. We’ve got six dead in South Mississippi so far from the first round, and first responders are still searching neighborhoods.

TT are you and all the others in direct fire okay? We have it coming in about an hour. 50 mph winds but we’re used to hurricanes. Tornados are a different story but they’re saying just a slight risk. We just hung six big Boston ferns on the porch yesterday so keeping my fingers crossed as they are heavy as hell. Hopefully, they won’t blow out into the Atlantic.

Also, I woke up earlier to Governor Cuomo giving an update on New York. This man is overseeing the fucking epicenter of all of this mess. 10,000 deaths in his state alone.

And it was the most calming thing I have heard this entire time. He’s smart. He tells the truth. He has REASONS for what he does. He makes me feel safe. I love him. How can I get more of him?

Google video clips of he and his brother. It is the best. Oh, especially the one where Chris becomes part of his press conference (last week I think). They tease each other mercilessly, but at the beginning, you can see Chris get emotional when the Governor mentions his daughter.

And yes, I get emotional when I see competent leaders now. I wasn’t a fan of Jay Inslee – I didn’t dislike him and voted for him, but he left me feeling “meh” sometimes. But with this he’s been amazing. (I know I have fellow Washingtonians here… anyone see his Asian woman sign language interpreter lately? I’m worried about her. She’s the best one I’ve ever seen! Although the white bearded guy isn’t bad)

We have a male ASL interpreter here. I have only seen him once but he is the most dramatic interpreter I’ve ever seen. He uses his entire body. I have no idea what our idiot governor is even saying. It’s all nonsense. But some kid needs to make a Tik Tok video set to music with the interpreter. He’s a trip and all I focus on.

Someone’s house up where my sister lives was PICKED UP BY A TORNADO and plunked down in the middle of the road. The house was “fine” just moved in its entirety to another place. Someone else died from a tree landing on them. Sadly people died but it could have been so much worse. I’m kinda traumatized by this one. I have to take cover for tornadoes at least once a year or so. It’s never fun. But when you are barely keeping your shit together over the pandemic, this one was just too much.

Glad you’re okay, but man, that was scary looking. I saw a pic of a house in the middle of a street, and a video of a man walking through his destroyed house. So weird to see his home crushed, but the dining table and chair still in place, and the table still set!
As if folks didn’t have enough shit to handle.

A friend is a retired Orlando, Fla. 911 operator. She has 45 million stories.

Tornado warning — all of the usual media reports. CB radios, etc. Days ahead.
Cops coming around to neighborhoods on bullhorns just in case someone didn’t know.
A woman calls: “I am standing in my doorway and I can see the tornado coming. What should I do?”
Carol said she REALLY WANTED to do Darwin thing and say, “Do nothing. Just stay where you are.”
But instead, “Run into the bathroom and LAY DOWN in the tub! Cover yourself with whatever you can grab on the way.”
Afterward, she asked cops to check on the caller. Not a scratch; just bruises from throwing herself into the tub.
