Apparently, the drinking words for this Family Karma recap are “Fire Tower.” That is the big celebration that we were building up to on the entire last episode. It seems that lots of people are nervous for the big event for a variety of reasons. Several of the younger ones seem to have no clue about the whole fire tower event. Others have gossip to share or amends to make with their friends. It will all come out in glorious fashion while wearing saris and watching the fireworks, the literal ones and the metaphoric ones.
Bali told Monica that Anisha is not coming to fire tower! I do not believe this for a minute. Then Anisha, Amrit, Vishal showdown brought to us all by Bali is the main storyline for tonight. What else do they have really? More Monica and Brian mating dances? I guess we could get some good older people scenes. But she has to be coming.
Bali Continues To Stir The Pot
For our warm up fight, we have Vishal confronting Bali over stirring up big drama between him and Anisha. Bali seems to have a very poor memory about exactly how things went down when she had dinner with Vishal and Amrit. Bali keeps stirring the pot. She straight up lies to Amrit about talking about their conversation. Then she gets agitated and tries to storm off. But she’s locked out of the event.

Anisha stays home with her mom and lets us know that her clothing line (le sigh) is size inclusive! She is waiting for some sort of gold medal for this from someone. Then her plus sized friend, who just happened to be there, tries on one of her dresses. There is way too much fabric involved. Puffy sleeves and all of this material gathered at the waist with elastic or what not? Nope. I did like the fabric. There was just way too much of it involved. I am shocked that Anisha really didn’t go to fire tower. She is never going to meet a man this way.
Amrit Is So Not Ready To Settle Down
Vishal, Amrit, Shaan and another guy I haven’t seen before go out for drinks the next day. Amrit says that his boyfriend is coming to town. and his mother said he might as well just sleep in his bed. This is rather shocking news. Vishal says he would never sleep in the same bed with Richa in his parents house. Then, it comes out that Richa has an apartment. So why is she living with Vishal’s parents again? It doesn’t seem like Amrit is all that into Nicholas. But I think his mama loves Nicholas.

I love Monica’s dad, Raj and need him to cook for me. Monica tells her dad she is not fulfilled by her job. It seems she really wants to run a dance school full time. Her dad tells her to follow her dreams. Bali’s dad works at Victoria’s Secret? Bali’s mother tells her she should have stayed out of the drama with Anisha.
Anisha Believes Bali Over Vishal
I love when production sets up a shot and the people involved have no idea what they are doing. This is the case with Brian and his brother, Nick trying to grill a couple of burgers. I think someone even turned the grill on for them. This idea quickly changes to a cigar party with the brother and a friends. They talk about Monica. Then suddenly there are burgers. Monica calls to say she is on her way over.
But first, Bali has arranged a lunch between Anisha, Vishal and Amrit. I’m not sure she invited Amrit. Why can’t she just stay out of the middle of this? She caused this whole thing! Anisha wants to start the conversation with, “So, do you have anything to say?”

When Vishal tries to explain that he didn’t say the things Bali say he was saying, Anisha just cuts him off. Both of these females are very bossy. Amrit apologized to Anisha. Vishal did not. Bali sure as hell did not. So that went nowhere. If I were Vishal, I’d had nothing further to do with Anisha other than quick greetings in public.
Monica and Brian talk it out. She basically said she had feelings for him at one time. She told him how she felt and he shut it down. So she put those emotions in a box that will never be opened.
Next week: We will revisit the same fights and misunderstandings all over again. Really?
I loved how Raj encouraged Monica to follow her dream. Brian’s mom gave good advice. Bali’s mom gave excellent advice — BUTT OUT of other people’s business. Especially when you can’t be accurate (Bali is the new Tamara Judge!)
I love Indian clothes. Spending childhood years in Berkeley, I thought the ladies in their saris were the most exquisite women I had ever seen. It’s too bad I can’t say the same for Anisha’s fashion. Tamara, if you ever decide to create a fashion line — or just joggers — you could call it Le Sigh.
TT, you can make us bathing suits that are cute. The “honeybadger” from your pool could be your first client. I would be your second. Le Sigh
I love the dad who works at Victoria’s secret. He buys things on sale and brings it home for his daughters. The food Monica’s dad was cooking looked amazing. I haven’t wanted to like this show because I will miss it when its gone but it is fun to watch
I wOrder what Anisha thinks now that the original convo with Bali and Vishal aired. Does she and Bali have regrets?
Vishal is someone who doesn’t like conflict. This is why he bends to the mean mother in law. Vishal want everything to be good and when it isn’t he doesn’t want to talk to anyone for a bit. Anisha blowing up his texts asking for all the details and reminding him of it was something he didn’t want to have anxiety about.
And all the stress flared up his crohns disease. All the drama made him sick. I feel bad for Vishal. I can relate to bending because I don’t want the drama. He needs to block Anisha and Bali.
I agree. And I used to like Anisha and Bali sad..
On episode one Anisha was my favorite second only to Gopal.
Ok, while I’ll agree Bali should have stayed out of it, I disagree about Vishal. The reason Anisha was upset was because Vishal decided to push everything at the gala under the rug and apparently that means his friendship with Anisha because he doesn’t interact with her like he used to. He ignored her for days. If he didn’t want to talk about Richa’s mother and what she said, then have lunch with Anisha and say that then this would have been done. The stress from his Crohn’s disease he is using as an excuse. If he apologized to Anisha at the lunch like Amrit did this would be over. Vishal did somewhat downplay his friendship with Anisha at that dinner. Even Richa told him 2 episodes ago not to ignore Anisha. Amrit was more in the wrong at the dinner and at Bali’s accusing Anisha of crushing on Vishal. All Anisha wanted was an apology, but I think there are big secrets we don’t know yet between Vischal’s family and Richa’s mother. Vishal decided to toss Anisha aside instead of drawing her in and that is the crux of the problem. Vishal is bringing this on himself. And no, that doesn’t excuse Bali, but the real issue with Vishal an Anisha is because of Vishal’s actions.
“The reason Anisha was upset was because Vishal decided to push everything at the gala under the rug…” AND ANISHA WOULD HAVE TOLD BIG MOUTH BALI OR PRODUCTION.
If Vishal wants to push everything under the rug, which is his right, and Anisha is such a great friend, should should have known and respected this was his tendency. Instead she called him the village idiot.
I must have missed something. What did Vishal actually say that was so awful? I can’t see why she is so upset. And isn’t Bali a little too old to be in the young folks biz?
I liked Anisha and Bali prior to episode and now I dislike them both. Vishal should tell them both to go kick rocks but he won’t because he hates confrontation.
It appears Anisha doesn’t understand how this reality tv game works. Skipping the main event and killing a friendship Vishal, a friend/cast mate with an interesting story line, are not smart moves.
Bali needs to enroll in the LVP school of sniper from the side pot stirring because Bali sucks at it.
I love Monica’s dad and she and Brian are too cute together to not become a couple.
Everything I want to say has already been commented! Thanks commenters, and thank you for recapping this show. I am enjoying learning about the Indian culture.
I don’t like Vishal. He’s pretty spineless and could have avoided creating this entire situation with his friends had he not allowed Amrit to trash talk Anisha. Like Vishal, I hate confrontation as well but will man up when necessary to address problems that are snowballing. You accomplish nothing by sweeping everything under the rug. It only compounds the issue and Vishal should know this by age 32, but he really is quite stupid. I was flabbergasted by his erroneous take on “#Metoo” as well as his stance on consent. Disgusting.
I still really like both Bali and Anisha and will give Bali a pass because the only thing she wasn’t honest about was the fact that she relayed the entire conversation to Anisha again when Amrit asked (she was honest about it the first time and then chided for it, so I see why she may have chosen not to disclose that out of loyalty to her home girl).
Amrit and Vishal are like two little school boys who are probably entangled in some kind of sexual relationship with one another. JMO.
Good Lord. I have no words. I thought I did, but none of them were kind.
Does anyone else want Monica and Brian to get together?? They look good together
Binged on all episodes to date during lockdown UK. Thank you for the recommendation TT once again x
