Sorry for the delays on all the recaps. I am a bit under the weather. I’m going to see if I can bang of a Family Karma recap and take it from there. It looks like we are going to start with the awkward relationship between Monica and Brian. Clearly, they are perfect together. Brian claims he has outgrown his douche bag days. However, he seems terrified of coupons. I think Monica’s wallet full of groupons is an asset.
Vishal and Amrit go to workout. Vishal is pissed that his future mother in law, Lopa trashes him everywhere she goes. And, Vishal has crohn’s disease that is in remission but it is triggered by stress. Lopa causes him a lot of stress. Vishal has also distanced himself from Anisha. They are very close but when she tried to contact him after Lopa’s mean comments, he stopped taking her calls. I don’t get that.
Bali Has a Big Mouth
This week we meet Bali’s boyfriend. He’s a white guy from Kentucky. They are in a long distance relationship. They go out to dinner with Vishal, Richa and Amrit. Bali asks Vishal what is going on with him and Anisha. I don’t get why Vishal can’t just use his words with Vishal. Somehow the guys and Richa think Anisha is just a drama queen. Amrit says Vishal is his best friend, not Anisha. Later, when Vishal and Brian go to the driving rang, Brian mentions that Lopa talked about him to his dad. Vishal cuts the conversation off.

Then we get to Anisha’s lunch with Gopal, her grandpa and my favorite person on the show. He really wants Anisha to get married and have a baby. Bali is really stirring the pot with Vishal and Anisha. The conversation where Anisha tries to explain she is gong to freeze her eggs to her grandparents is like they are speaking two different languages. And funny.
Lopa Gives Vishal Her Blessing, Sort Of Not Really
Vishal and Richa need to have a traditional Indian engagement party to bring the two families together. But first, Vishal needs to get Lopa’s blessing. He tries to do this on the phone and when Lopa realizes what he is asking, the connection starts to get bad. Her “blessing” was something like, “I guess so.” Vishal says that is good enough for him.

Bali and talks to Amrit and admits she told Anisha about his negative comments about her. Amrit seems to think Anisha likes Vishal as more than a friend. Bali admits that she is going to run this information right back to Anisha. Amrit needs to stop saying anything to Bali that he doesn’t want the entire world to know. Amrit decides he needs to apologize to Anisha all the all cast “Fire Tower” celebration.
Two Mama’s Boys With Small Dick Energy
Vishal’s family and friends celebrate Diwali together before going to the big Fire Tower party. It doesn’t look like we are going to get to the big party on this episode. For now, this giant game of telephone continues. Bali and Anisha talk some more before the party. And by talking I mean Bali repeats everything Amrit said to her in private. That’s shady.

At Vishal’s family celebration, Amrit tells Vishal about Bali. Meanwhile, Bali is back on the phone telling Anisha that Amrit asks if Anisha liked Vishal. Anisha says she would never date the village idiot. That doesn’t sound like a best friend talking. Anisha says she is gross and disgusted and wants to vomit. She doesn’t seem like a very good friend either.
Next week the shit hits the fan at the biggest party of the year. And it is all Bali’s fault.
I love the grandparents, especially the grandfather. That frozen egg conversation was hilarious. Bali is trying too hard to not be considered an “auntie.” Some conversations do not need to be repeated, and she knows that, but that would cut way back on the amount of air time she gets. This has quickly become one of my favorite shows, even though I’m still trying to connect names & faces. I hope it lives a long life on Bravo.
This episode felt a little scripted with the whole tand best friend things. Totally confusing given I’m not yet up to speed on their names.
Vishnal has the biggest roundest eyes, he reminds me of a cartoon version of an Indian person come to life ?
Telephone and
Vishal and Amrit seemed to quickly throw Anisha under the bus. Why can’t Visha admit that Anisha is a good friend. Why can’t Amrit admit he had a weird jealous reaction to hearing Vishal had another best friend? Small dick energy indeed.
Also the girlfriend was there which may be why he was underplaying his friendship.
Good point about the girlfriend being present. That explains some of Amrit’s behavior. He seems like a nice enough guy but bus attempts to avoid conflict actually creates it.
Oops, I meant Vishal hates conflict and ends up creating it.
Lopa reminds me of a younger Mama Elsa.
??
I want to like and know I will but just not completely in yet. This is typical for me, though. Slow to warm up. Maybe it is the “too scripted” feel right now and they will show more real soon. I am sensing something to spill soon and fully explain the true source of tension with the moms that don’t really get along. I am being polite as I don’t know enough yet to really identify what my intuition says. I found myself wandering and not paying attention. Bravo does that. Reels me in slowly. Argh. Can I get more Siesta Key episodes? MTV pls listen but I am a little ashamed that I love a Siesta Key so much. And Love after Lockup too. But I don’t ever comment on those recaps. I don’t want to find myself defending anything that is clearly….um….great reality TV, yet is disturbing and sad, and they make it great television that I watch. And I recommend it to friends. I find reality shows oddly fascinating.
This is a first season show, so usually the least scripted thing Bravo will give you. I don’t think any of the aunties stuff is scripted. I think my source said one of the people on the show, back when the working title was “Indianish” said she wanted to be Golnesa from Shahs… I think that person is clearly Dali..
Of course they do send them to dinner and the golf course etc and tell them to talk about the relationship betwenn Anisha and Vishal. But I think the Aunties are being their authentic selves. And nobody tells Gopal what to do or say.
Ahhh got it. I am hanging in as I know I will end up a big fan. I now remember how the first seasons feel “stiff” rather than scripted. Cameras and all. Oh and I am an authentic auntie as well.
They do bring much fun. Always interesting to see the dynamics develop, especially when the show could have been pitched as one being the star. I now fast forward scenes with GG…but did the same at times for scenes with Mike.
The grandpa is ther STAR of the show. I love him. Vishal and Amrit are shady, and I think if anyone is in love with Vishal, it’s Amrit.
I love him too. He makes me smile.
I was thinking the same thing. I think Anisha is grossed out by the idea of a crush on Vishal because he is like a brother. Amrit seems to be the jealous one. Plus, Anisha HAS THE RECEIPTS of Vishal calling her!
I love that Grandpa Gopal!
I love all the ladies. Bali is absolutely fabulous and a great friend to Anisha, having her back and doing her bit to uncover what went wrong between her and Vishal.
Anisha is hilarious with her takedown of the “besties with testes” Vishal and Amrit. “They’re just two mamas boys with small dick energy and a mediocre cross fit glo-up” has to be one of the best clapbacks I’ve ever heard on reality TV!
Monica is sweet and genuine, and deserves much better than perpetual playboy Brian.
I loved Bali’s “Weird Science” reference!
My gaydar has never been great but is anyone else feeling like the reason Monica’s parents divorced is because the dad (who I love and love the relationship he has with Monica – so adorable) might be a friend of Dorothy?
Yes. Vishal also pings so hard he breaks the ‘dar.
