Well this is it kids! The last Project Runway Recap. We hope everyone is safe and sound taking care of themselves and their loved ones. The Lovely Les and I have dipped ourselves in Purell and come together to watch the last episode. Mixmaster is chiming in via text. So let’s pick up where we left off.
Everyone is having a small heart attack on the runway waiting for the judges to let them know who is going forward. And…….THEY ALL ARE. Everyone goes back to breathing. Brandon tells them to “show up and show out.” And Edit, edit, edit. All of them. Geoffrey is determined to “Get it Done.” Good mantra. Les and I want to hug Geoffrey per usual. Mixmaster wants to know how many times he is going to cry. I text her back: Probably a lot.

A Few Last Minute Critiques
The designers are taken to the CFDA to get feedback on their entire collections. This is amazing and seriously helpful. They are meeting with Sara Kozlowski, the director of professional development and Rachna Shah, a publicist for Givenchy, Fenty and Victoria Beckham. Nancy is VERY excited. Like the critiques, everyone gets to stay and hear what they say about each designer.

Victoria is up first. Rachna likes that she sees signature elements throughout the collection, pleating et al. Sara thinks she has an interesting way with proportion. They ask about the branding element and Victoria looks panicked. If she removes the logos she’s worried the looks will be too simple. She promises to think about it and change what she can.

In This Case It IS About The Destination, Nancy
Nancy tells them she doesn’t design for any one gender, it’s about the journey of the textile. Les exclaims that that doesn’t make any sense. Sara wants to know where her client is going. Rachna tells her that she shouldn’t lead with this idea. She needs her design to be more focused so that her clients can choose what they want. Les yells: exactly! Nancy looks thrown. They tell her to embrace empowerment. Nancy’s aha moment is that she has a mission AND a brand, but that they are separate.

Geoffrey is told to lead with the purple heart idea not the fabric. He is also told his collection needs to pull WAY back on styling because it is so dramatic and avant garde on its own.

The Climate May Be Changing, But Serigio Is Not
Get ready to be lectured ladies. Sergio explains his “Arctic Melting” idea. They tell him without the narration, no one is going to get it. He explains his “older” client base. Les punches me in the arm. Probably because she can’t punch Sergio in the face. They chastise him by saying women in that age group still want to look fabulous. They mention J-Lo. Les and I are totally into that reference. They also tell him he has no idea who his client is going to be in the end. Sergio realizes he shouldn’t pigeon hole himself? Damn. Good meeting.

At Mood the designers have $400 and 45 minutes to shop. Christian announces that he is giving them seamstresses to assist them. Victoria decides to make an entire new look that is simpler than the rest. Sergio is going to “mess it up” a bit. Christian is amazed Sergio is FINALLY taking advice. As are we. As is Mixmaster. Sergio laughs at himself and we like him for one second. Then he says he’s perfectionist so it’s har for him to mess things up. And that one second is up!

Who Wants A Model?
Model casting begins. Everyone is behaving themselves. Les says, “Oh MY!” as the ridiculously hot guy who modeled for Marquise in the tuxedo challenge walks in. The one with the 24 pack. Hello abs! We missed you! His name is Taurean. Of course it is.
A model comes in and tells the judges she is “fully customizable.”She wears a prosthetic leg. Nancy asks if she has blades. She tells her she has a swarovski crystal accented piece and Nancy’s head almost explodes. Nancy also claims Deedee.

The show will be at Spring street studios where Christian had his show. Karla Welch is coming back to help implement the styling advice they received. I know Les misses her Marni Senofonte but Karla is also amazing.

It’s Your Last Damn Chance To Listen To Christian!
Christian wants to know how things are going in Moldova. He hates the white fuzzy mini dress paired with the boots she has picked out. OMG the swarovski prosthetic is AMAZING. When Christian saunters up to Sergio and says “Howdy” I almost spit my wine out on Les’s carpet. The dress he’s showing looks ill-fitted,“like underwear, but not in a cool way” according to Christian. Mixmaster texts: fringe western wear? The other dress he has is stunning. Christian and Geoffrey have a hilarious conversation which makes sense only to them. Ugh, he still wants to use the spikes on the model’s faces.

At the end of the day the designers hit the bar. Geoffrey’s dad can’t make it because he has had knee surgery, but his mom will be there. Sergio’s partner is coming and Sergio plans on proposing. We like him again for a hot second.

Please Listen To The Stylist!
Karla comes in the next day to help. She tells Nancy no extra accessories and no gimmicks. Goodbye wine tote! Send it to us Nancy! Karla reinforces the advice the judges gave Geoffrey. The clothes are so avant-garde the styling needs to be simple. He’s trying to dial it back. Victoria has made the best dress she has made all season. It is STUNNING. Simple, elegant not strappy. I turn to Les and say: Who knew? Christian is amazed. If the rest of the collection looked like this she would have it in the bag.

When Karla tells Sergio he needs to ditch his fringe jacket to simplify a look and replace it with a t-shirt, it goes exactly the way you think it would. “That’s not the planet I live on.” Where the fuck do you live? Westworld? He’s going to push himself to the brink? And create the most amazing t-shirt in history? Les’s eyes roll. My eyes roll. Mixmaster texts, “Um it’s a FUCKING T-SHIRT!” Karla tells Victoria to edit and streamline her shoe collection. The t-shirt is stressing Sergio out. Who knew this is what it would take. Geoffrey is full on crying. He thinks this is his last shot. Mixmaster thinks Geoffrey needs an antidepressant.

The Final Runway
The judges walk out and Karlie is wearing a look that only she can pull off. Somewhere Heidi Klum is grinding her teeth. Serena is rocking a skin-tight giraffe print dress.
VIctoria Cocieru’s collection is schizophrenic. There are some great looks and a lot of not-so great looks. The logo is EVERYWHERE. What was it like before? The pink coat is stunning. The pink dress is not. We still like the jumpsuit and the white look that followed. The white dress is INCREDIBLE. I think Victoria is someone who giving a bunch of time too is not necessarily a good thing. Les points out that the mean Russian who won years ago did the accessories much better.

Fancy Nancy Volpe-Beringer’s look is the model in the wheelchair. Her dress looks much more more luxe. She kept the cowl on the purplish that they told her to remove. We saw a puffy hairy black dress that was a surprise.
A dress on the model with the swarovski crystal leg get a massive round of applause. It was a cool moment.
There was also a model with a stunning faux fur coat that she swung around before DD’s finale that was a moment. (See left)
Les thinks there are a lot of TOO similar things going on. I want Deedee’s dress. Mixmaster loves Nancy’s collection.
All of the purplish/maroon dresses looked fantastic on the runway.

Sergio Guadarrama’s collection included dresses without fringe that I loved! My favorite Sergio dress, the cocktail dress that weighs 45 pounds looks incredible and gets a big round of applause.
The white dress looks like a costume. Mixmaster hates the fringe. The super fringe dress gets applause. The last two dresses are the only things we like. This reads old.

Everyone sits up when Geoffrey Mac’s first look hits the runway. It is a statement. The metallic puffer coat unzipped looks MUCH better.(see right)
The mustard look on my fantasy boyfriend looks amazing. There is a lovely juxtaposition of hard and soft. It’s futuristic and cool.(see above)
The dress that looked like a sack is transformed now that it’s fitted.
The last look is the giant black puffer coat that Christian tried on in the workroom. Geoffrey is Rick Owens and Alexander McQueen’s love child. If he had styled it the way he wanted to, it would have been way too much. This is my favorite.
Geoffrey’s Feedback
Elaine calls Geoffrey’s collection the Billie Eilish take on fashion. Brandon says that people are always looking for the “first spark of an idea” in someone’s first show. And this had that. The brocade piece moved him EMOTIONALLY. Damn! Serena loves the outerwear, the trench in particular. He explains it is a paper bac ked to a neoprene. We are amazed. Nina loves his innovation with materials and his perspective on volume. It feels modern to her. She says that she worries it is too referential to Rick Owens designs. Karlie is just happy he let the work speak for itself.

Nancy’s Feedback
Karlie compliments Nancy on her mission and message which came through in the clothes. Nina wrote “powerful message about sustainability and inclusion that it can be fashionable.” Well done! Suck on that Sergio. Elaine agreed and thought the fur coat looked amazing and expensive. Brandon said all of the fabrics looked great on the runway. Nina loved the short purple dress in particular. Serena would have loved to see more tailored looks. Brandon would have wanted a bustier in some of the looks for a more flattering fit.

Sergio’s Feedback
Nina said Sergio’s collection was the most skilled, executed and polished. This makes me think of a conversation I had earlier with Les. Being an incredible tailor is an art form in and of itself. To take someone’s vision and make it a reality is an amazing skill. That said it doesn’t make you an incredible DESIGNER.
Click Here For More Project Runway Recaps!
Nina thinks the collection is frozen in time. She wished she had seen a more relaxed, less conservative version of it. Les said the exact same thing. Brandon tells him to take more risks. For him the most successful piece was the one with the simple shirt Karla suggested. Elaine and Serena loved Sergio’s sheer gown pictured above.

Victoria’s Feedback
Nina tells Victora she has a very good “grasp of proportions and silhouette”. She liked the pink cut-out dress I hated. Serena loved the tan suit with the cut-out. She also loved the beaded jumper with the hood. Elaine tells her that she has been consistent throughout the competition creating clothing that real women want to wear.
Click Here For More Project Runway Recaps!
Elaine then tells her she didn’t listen to them about the branding. Victoria explains she removed a lot of it but Elaine is not having it. Her strongest look was the white dress. Brandon agrees and thinks it was an amazing way to close the show. Everyone wants that dress. Nina considered it a “graduation” dress for Victoria. The logos might have sunk Moldova.

HOLY CRAP GEOFFREY MAC WINS!!
The room erupts. EVERYONE loves Geoffrey. You may not “get” his collection but he did deserve this. They went for innovation over tailoring. As Nina says, you either have big ideas or nothing. Geoffrey is of course crying. We are crying. His Dad’s reaction and telling him how proud he is is just EVERYTHING. You have no heart if that doesn’t move you. Thank you for sticking with us this season!! Stay safe everyone! Love CJ and Les.
SORRY FOR THE DELAY. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER FOR THIS TO END. THE HOURS OF TEDIUM TRYING TO GET THE PHOTOS AND EDIT THE TEXT AND FIT EVERYTHING IN IS MISERY. I AM SO READY TO HAVE MY FRIDAYS BACK! I Wrote comments last night while watching because I can never remember what I was thinking the next day. I am sorry that I didn’t include any of the details of the looks. I should have. We didn’t even have photos of the four final collections. I apologize to those of you who don’t watch and wanted to know what I was seeing when I wrote this.
THERE IS A WWHL mini recap BELOW
Of to try to find something for breakfast while getting ready for the Shahs recap. Sorry it will be delayed long enough for me to eat.
I love and want every single thing Fancy Nancy wore to the CFDA.
Did I somehow miss the part where they admitted everyone is showing?
At Mood, the day before the runway, Victoria suddenly decides to make a new dress to show that she can make other things than her usual Hooker chic stuff. Better late than never?
Christian mocks Sergio for finally taking the judges advice! Also, Better late than never?
Victoria’s runway: Where did all of these looks come from? I feel like I have only seen a few. Did we know about that bright pink? How does it tie into the rest of her collection? I would have put a touch of that pink somewhere on the white looks for cohesion. I must admit I am impressed. I liked the hats last time but HATED them this time. I still love the sparkly jumpsuit and that dress she made in two hours is GORGEOUS.
NANCY’s RUNWAY: I SCREAMED YES! And got a bit emotional when I saw she kept the cowl. That’s my girl! Wow! This puffy/hair dress is a surprise to me. I love it! YAS model in the long coat! You werk it! Why am I um having allergies? I didn’t think the finale look on DD was the best choice for the final look. I also feel like Nancy could have used a male model for one of her looks. Maybe a skinny guy in the skinny suit?
I got chills watching Sergio’s collection. His dresses WITHOUT the fringe were jaw dropping. And my favorite dress of his had the audience applauding!
Well now, it seems production was just playing with us because for the first time this season I think Geoffrey has a shot a winning this thing.
Any of the four…if they win…deserve it. Even if it is Victoria.
ON WWHL, Nina and Brandon (What happened to DVF? I guess she stayed in because of the COVID.) They said that Serena really fought for Sergio. They didn’t say his name but it was obvious. Brandon was asked about Victoria making the same two dresses over and over and he gave the “clear point of view excuse.” However, I don’t think Brandon really was a Victoria fan. We saw a few smart remarks about her. And I just don’t buy that he was the one who favored her. I think someone bought her a slot.
A caller asked if they agreed with Christian’s decision to use his save on Brittany. Brandon says yes, Christian is a former contestant and he trusts his decisions on that. Nina had her face of disagreement, but said nothing.
Andy had then play a game where Nina had to guess the names of women based on clues. Brandon was great with the clues. When he said Editor-In-Chief of American Vogue Nina said “I don’t know that one.” She refused to say Anna Wintour’s name and finally said, “A.W.??” It was full on Mariah Carey type shade.
Anna spoke very highly of last year’s winner, Sebastian Grey. He just designed a gown for an upcoming movie. Mulan? They both just went to his NYFW fashion show. These two seem to be real friends that do fancy fashiony stuff together.
Thank you for working so hard for us Tamara! You are the best. I love your recaps and I know sometimes you are having a hard time, but I for one appreciate it!
You’re spot on with your descriptions of the runway show. I was so glad Geoffrey won. it was a fabulous season with truly enjoyable recaps by you ladies. See you next season.
My thought it was Nancy or Geoffry for win. I loved Veronica’s white dress, loved Sergio’s dress the judges said looked more modern….but Geoffrey’s big over the top reminded me of Jay Mcintyre’s win….
Thanks for the recap. I am so happy that Geoffrey won! He was not my choice to win. But his design choices did show the most innovation and unique vision. I’m happy that talent and innovation won out over drama and production.
If Victoria’s entire show was more like that white dress, she would have won easily. For all the wonderful looks created by Sergio, this last show was a nightmare. One dress was fabulous but the rest was a disaster. Nancy is a lovely woman and her show was fantastic. Such a fan! Geoffrey grew on me as more and more of his story came out. I became a great fan because he is such a sweetheart. I would have been happy wit Nancy or Geoffrey to win, so I was happy. It’s nice to see people who have such talent and vision and they are also so likable.
What a great season and all the spot on recaps, it was awesome. They had four very distinct and very talented finalists and Geoffrey stuck to his guns and presented Avant Garde fabulousness! Sooo glad he won, for once in a long time I feel like the right designer won hands down. Hope we hear lots from him in the future as well as the others. Many thanks to all the recappers! ?
I agree. I love that the energy and sound level was so noticeable. Victoria’s runway show was almost silent but Nancy and Geoffrey’s shows elicited an audible reaction. Well done!
I had somehow gotten way behind with this season so binge-watched everything last weekend and caught the finale last night.
I’m delighted that Geoffrey won. I’m not particularly knowledgeable about fashion so didn’t necessarily see it coming but am really happy for him.
I loved most of Nancy’s looks, and her fabrics in particular. They looked fabulous on the runway.
I also liked Victoria’s final look the most. She needed a lot more of that.
Sergio and his many causes are exhausting. I really can’t with him.
I continue to live Christian as the designers’ mentor and Brandon Maxwell is my favorite judge ever.
Oh, me too! I love Brandon as a judge. I like how he explains his thinking and how he’s generally kind. I did think that some of Sergio’s work, especially the sheer dress above was some of the most beautiful work on the runway. But I’m so happy for Geoffrey!
On WWHL, someone asked Nina who was the most difficult contestant of all time. She couldn’t, or maybe was pretending she couldn’t, come up with his name. She said 2nd or 3rd season. Said he got very aggressive. Anyone else think that might be Santino? Any other guesses?
I think so. I think he argued pretty vociferously with her about a look she thought was tawdry and looked like cheap lingerie. Still love Santino.
Thanks, CJ. What an excellent recap. Nothing to add except they all made some incredible pieces, but Geoffrey deserved the win. Love how he credited PR as the best therapy. I said last week that I wish he’d get into therapy! Hope this boosts his confidence and sustains him.
They all did beautiful work. Saw that opera coat on Nancy’s webpage. I think it sells for 12k. Gorgeous.
Nancy’s coat should have been her final look. I didn’t like her final look at all. Even DD couldn’t make it look good. I’m surprised they didn’t give her the “underwear critique.”
Thiigin won the whole thing for Geoffrey with that opening look and the stomp behind the screen. He was winning from that point on. I think production deliberately had him showing crap the previous episode. It worked. We were all thinking he was out of the running. Then we got his real looks and they were even more amazing because we had low expectations. There is no way the male model look in the critique runway and the male model look in the real show were the same clothes.
I don’t think she would have forgotten Santino’s name, but … maybe it was an “AW” “memory lapse.”she did say security got involved. And Santino and Austin Scarlett had that show; I don’t think the network would risk that if security had been involved. I ADORE Santino.
Speaking of AW, I wondered if Nina’s disdain had anything to do with the incident Tim Gunn wrote about in his book. When she insisted she be carried somewhere because of something to do with her boots.
I loved Santino’s dresses! I still dream about the short grey one he made with the twisted bodice and the flounced hem! It was so gorgeous.
I rewatched Part I of that season finale yesterday. (Lifetime makes you buy its seasons and when they run it on TV, the final finale often isn’t shown.) I was reminded of how PISSED I was that the judges ripped Santino for the fit of the dresses in the boobs after NONE of his models showed up on fit day. I bet Nina paid them not to show up. I forgot he described Chloe’s collection as “a couch coming at me.” I did NOT forget Daniel’s woodshop handled bags. He just couldn’t believe Tim (and Santino) didn’t go crazy over them.
Oh, yes. Tim didn’t hold back, did he? He let the world know that Wintour demanded to be carried up and down the stairs.
Now I am thinking back, I recall that guy with the temper who stormed off. Didn’t he punch some walls on the way out? That a few seasons ago.
Ohhh, yes, you’re right. I remember that guy storming out. Apologies to Santino.
Sandro (aka the Passionate Russian) was on Season 12 (2013) on the Lifetime Network. Nina answered Andy that it was during the Bravo production. I do think I remember some argument with Santino, but I can’t believe security was involved. Ken was the other hothead I could remember, but he was S12 too. He was much calmer on Allstars. I think he said he got back in his meds.
It was Jeffrey Sebelia, winner of Season 3, who later also appeared on Season 3 of Project Runway Allstars. If you recall, Laura Benett questioned how he had managed to finish all his garments to such a high level on his own for the finale, before he got back to NYC. In that season, the contestants had to make an outfit for another contestant’s mother and he made Angela Keslar’s mother cry. It was also the season when Uli Herzner and Mychael Knight were contestants. Jeffrey later admitted that he was a friend of Santino and that Santino had advised to act like that and that he regretted it.
Thanks for such great teamwork with the recaps this season. It was much appreciated and enjoyed.
Nina’s Ramona goggle game was a fantastic “I don’t know her” moment. I texted DH at work today when I watched because he worships AW.
Karlie KILLED at the runway, and all I could think is how awesome to wear to lunch with the Kushners…I hope it isn’t too soon or judged too inappropriate by TT and peeps, but she just looked so amazing with legs for days. If I looked like Karlie in that dress I would wear it all the time like Tiffany Haddish wore her McQueen dress. At the DMV and everything?
I am glad I wasn’t the only one who didn’t find Geoffrey’s collection at all to my taste even though I appreciate the beautiful fashion forward designs It was striking and very Geoffrey. I am so very happy for him.
Nancy by far had the best fabric. Her looks just shimmered flowed down the runway. It was beautiful to watch. She is real and true to herself always. Using the same fabric for her overalls as the fantastically fitted suit was a quintessential Fancy Nancy touch.
Sergio had my favorites looks, especially the 45 pound dress. I would have liked even more of them minus the fringe. I guess he was right all along about his clientele…and he totally got me to buy in.
In the aggregate, Victoria’s collection was my favorite. All 10 looks onstage during her finale made me drool (you couldn’t really notice all the logos at that distance). I love neutrals, chartreuse “and pink is my signature culluhh” in my best Julia Roberts’ Shelby drawl. The apron pant suit thing was bizarre. Agree with all, her last minute addition side shoulder look was not only Uber commercial and hanger ready with universal appeal but also drop dead gorgeous.
Forgot to add, Sebastian’s Mulan dress was in one of those extended Bravo movie promos with Sebastian and Christian during the episode. It was a work of art.
Sebastian’s Mulan dress was fabulous and it was great to see him. I loved him last season.
I also love Sebastian!!! Remember when he told the judges he was cleaning homes for a living??? He has a certain “glow” about him. He’s truly gifted. I’m SO happy for all the contestants this season. I agree with Karlie’s dress- W O W !! WWHL was one of the best episodes in awhile. I enjoyed Nina and Brandon’s inside scoop on things. Prayers for everyone here. Incredibly grateful we have a “fun place” that we can escape to when the world seems so heavy? Thanks TT
I agree. Some good food and toilet paper (and booze for the lucky ones) and TT and who could even complain about a quarantine?
Thanks again for another stellar recap.
I am so glad Geoffrey won. And so glad all of the finalists went to NYFW. I got my wish that they have help with styling AND that an objective party critique the collections pre-runway. I wish the judges didn’t see the collections before the runway, especially when it determines who goes to Fashion Week. Any designer who makes it through to the end and creates a final collection should go.
I loved Victoria’s last-minute dress. Almost as much as I hated that atrocity in the photo above. Almost as much as I hate those homespun hats.
I think Sergio and Nancy both had great pieces. I really hope that Bravo will have an Allstars version, and bring Alan on too!
Does anyone else wonder if Geoffrey’s Fashion Fairy Godmother his the bag of studs? Yay!
HID the bag of studs.
I was SO freaking happy when they announced Geoffrey’s name that first I screamed, and then I cried. I really thought they were going to give it to Victoria. Geoffrey and Nancy were the two whose designs were truly original, modern, and exciting! I definitely found something to love in each of the designer’s collections, but I think they got it right in picking the winner. I did cry a little when Sergio got down on his knee to propose. I think he’s really more socially awkward than mean.
I knew Geoffrey was going to win. Maybe the editing had me think that way. His collection wasn’t my favorite but I am happy for him. I hated Sergio’s collection except for two pieces (dresses). Victoria’s finale piece was to die for!! That dress would look good on any body type. She should knock that dress off in a couple different colors (black and red).
Yes to Victoria’s dress in red and black, and maybe a short version. It was heavenly.
Yes Geoffrey won!
I loved Nancy’s collection too.
But the sequence with G’s mom, her comment on how he couldn’t dress up. What.A. Bitch.?
Could be a typical thought a mother might have about their child when making an important public appearance. My mom would think that way and she wasn’t a B. Her priorities were just not my priorities. It says far more about the mother than it does about Geoffrey. If it’s a pattern of behavior with the mom that would be so sad. At least she was there for Geoffrey’s runway while her husband was in the hospital.
Maybe the production found the comment funny and aired it..? We do not know and yes, perhaps not a B..
Aww, I do not think G’s mom was being a B, she was just being a mom.
I’ll miss watching this show every week. Always a good way to start the weekend. I watched the runway shows twice before I watched the ending so that I wouldn’t miss anything. It’s hard to compare this season with other seasons because the designers were given a large sum of money to spend on fabrics plus they had seamstresses to help them in the final days. That being said, the tailoring and fit of everyone’s designs was exceptional. And it was good to see non-skinny models in the collections.
Victoria. You should have dropped the logos. Your designs are complex and removing them would not have made them simple. And you were told to. The long pink tailored dress was beautiful but I had something just like that from Tahari years ago. (well, it was gray and knee high but still the same). You loved your first look with the pleated capris, me not so much. I liked the second look which was the tailored pantsuit and strappy cutout top and the final look. Nothing else comes to mind.
Nancy. Woo, lovely fabrics. Loved the strength of the models. It was a show of empowerment, inclusivity, diversity and beauty. I would have liked the 3 piece print pantsuit more if there were just 2 print pieces. And the model’s hair was too distracting with such a busy print. Loved the final look with the dramatic swoop of the coat. Didn’t think about the lack of fitted designs until Brandon mentioned it. It would have been a good idea as it would have provided a break in all the flowiness of her other designs. What a fantastic lady with a good kind heart.
Sergio. I got tears in my eyes, the garments were so beautiful. Stunning.
Geoffrey. Thijin. Loved that beginning stomp. The purple puffer and dress combo were beautiful. Is that the same elephant arm dress just shortened? Liked the yellow and the final puffer too. The brocade (?) see through pant outfit was gorgeous. I felt that three of his looks were too much the same. I liked the open look of the black boob covering cutout dresses but the fit didn’t seem right on both designs. The first one wasn’t symmetrical so it was distracting.
I am glad Geoffrey won. I wish all of them success. Judges were fair and helpful. I didn’t think Karlie’s black runway outfit was the right proportion for her. Something was off. Christian is the best.
I liked Victoria’s and Geoffrey’s. I did shed a tear when he won.
Question about Victoria’s hats: I seem to recall a contestant had shoes made by someone else years ago and this was disallowed. Why were Victoria’s hats (made by her mother) allowed?
I think it was Jeffrey Sebelia (sp) who had those expensive designer shoes given to him. The crocheted hats could be something like an item from the accessory wall?? good question
think it was Kara San who had those beautiful sandals made for her Howard Hughes film The Aviator collection for the finale of season 1
Jeffery was accused of not sewing his own garments as I recall. You are allowed to hire craftsmen or whatever for things like lace making or the crochet work in the hats. But you can’t use a seamstress. One of the female contestants had never seen Jeffrey do such impeccable sewing. Also Tim visited Jeffery just a couple weeks before and he had nothing done. Tim investigated and it was determined that he outsourced all of his sewing. I remember that is when we learned about things like crocheting and such can be outsourced.
Thank you.
oh, right. But after Tim Gunn and Bravo investigated the charge of Jeffrey outsourcing his sewing it was determined that he did not outsource his sewing. And Jeffrey won Season 3. (Not sure Tim Gunn agreed)
“My” ♥️ Jeffrey had a WHOLE LOT of sewing done when Tim visited. Extra looks too. Tim was impressed. It was Laura Bennet who was suspicious (and tried to get Uli and Mykel Knight involved). She claimed she had never seen that level of work before. OF COURSE NOT, THERE WAS NO TIME for detailed finishing. Jeffrey won the haute couture Catherine Malandrino challenge in Paris with his plaid dress sewn almost entirely by hand — fast, detailed sewing. Jeffrey had outsourced the PLEATING on his leather shorts — my least favorite piece. He was very open about that and it IS allowed. But he could not find the receipt, so he could not use them in the show. You are not allowed to have help with sewing, cutting, etc. Tim took the receipts to production and all was fine. Jeffrey was vindicated. My heart broke for Jeffrey and for Tim. I have been accused of something I didn’t do and my reaction was just like Jeffrey’s — utter shock and speechlessness.
It was Kara San who got the shoes from her pals at Dollhouse and when told comps were not allowed “secretly” told the guy to invoice her for a ridiculously low amount. And got busted. She got to use the shoes, but the judges were supposed to not weigh them in to her show. Yeah, righ. It’s near impossible not to. And she argued with MK that she had been doing Gucci before Gucci. NO BITCH.
Thank you both for a season of great recaps. I’m thrilled for Geoffrey! I would have have been just as thrilled for Nancy also! I liked some of Sergio’s looks. I think his best work is when he keeps it clean and simple. Geoffrey’s male model in the mustard colored outfit, Taurean, is mind blowing. He looks so regal to me. I think Taurean, Thinjin, DeeDee and Geoffrey’s model from the tye- dye challenge are incredible. They each break the standard mold of beauty we have seen for so long.
Love that Serena loved Sergio’s looks so much she fought hard for him to win. Unfortunately, Sergio’s personality turned all the judges against him. That said, for me the FRINGE lost it for him. The hats and that one really fucked up look with the weird half an overall strapped on to the front of another outfit REALLY lost it for her.
I feel some sort of way about the wheelchair opening Nancy’s collection. I don’t know how to say this without getting a lot of backlash but … The model did a fantastic job especially at the end of the runway. But I didn’t like the dress. I didn’t think it flattered her. Nancy won the Paralympic challenge with the wheelchair look because she put her hear into making the model happy with a train and her accommodations to the garment. Not because it was a finale runway look. And the second attempt was not a flattering in my opinion. Also, I sort of blame Victoria for this. I believe she has a model who was missing part of her arm. Which is great. But not really “Victoria.” My first thought when I saw that was that Victoria stole that model from Nancy,
Then, Nancy went right after and with the wheelchair first, it felt to me like it LOOKED LIKE a one up to Victoria. I know it wasn’t. but if you didn’t know the whole series, I think it comes off that way. I still think if she was going to be making all these gender fluid comment she should have put a CIS male in that three piece patterned suit and had him start the show, DD is so androgynous. I frankly am not sure of their gender. Not that it matters. My point is DD who does not spell her name DeeDee (a fem name) is androgynous and gender fluid and that is great. DD is her best model, but that full figure girl with the faux fur showed DD up in the finale. That model going out at the end right before DD totally overshadowed Nancy’s last look that I didn’t like even on DD. DD should have opened the show in that purple liquid dress with the cowl,
The model with the prosthetic leg was the perfect choice for inclusion of the differently abled. She had a plus model. She covered one non white model. Perhaps there was a Latina in there. Perhaps add an Asian and once more with feeling a CIS male.
This is not at all a knock on Nancy’s Runway. I got quite emotional when her collection was show. So much so that I am looking for things that could have pushed her to the top.
In the same vein, Sergio who have been the clear cut winner all along if he had just been less …. arrogant from the very beginning. He insulted Christian and Brandon right way losing most of the viewing audience. You do not say you are just as good as Christian Siriano. I’m sorry that is blasphemy. And telling us 9 episodes in that you are just arrogant to mask your insecurities is something we all know. And newsflash everyone get made fun of in middle school and high school. But I believe Sergio really thought he was better than Christian and that is why he didn’t listen to him, I think Christian thought that too and that is why he probably trashed him to the judges. Had he made friends with Christian and listened to his advice and been humble with the judges, He might have won.
I’m actually shocked Victoria didn’t win. I felt like she was going to win if she had done nothing and played the bridal shower game where all the back stage people and the hair and makeup crew made bridal dresses and sent it down the line. She didn’t deserve to be in the final four. That said, that white wool dress was my favorite thing on the runway.
But in the end, I think Geoffrey deserved the win. The looks he sent down the runway were a thousand times better than what he sent for critiques. I loved the edginess. His looks were actually more all inclusive than Nancy’s. He had male and female models. He threw a few softer looks in. And all of his jackets (well except the black finale piece that was powerful and that model… um sorry distracted. He had several pieces that could be mass marketed.
I’ll shut up now. I never went to bed I was trying to ” catch up on the site and my emails” and that never really happens and i talk a lot when I lack sleep. Plus I am self quarantined and just want to talk to my friends who can’t infect me. 🙂
Aside from my annoyance (notice I said annoyance not disgust) with Sergio, I think what sunk him was his need to cling to this elegant Charles James idea of what “older” women want. I’m in his client bases age. I’m 49 and I can afford it. There is pretty much nothing from that collection that appeals to me except the second to last look. That look was stunning. Well-made and elegant but MODERN. Nina was never going to be on board until he pushed that envelope. And it’s Nina that has the final word. He’s an incredible craftsman, no doubt, but he needs to LISTEN. I think she was hoping that it would finally sink in. Hopefully it did and he will let that guide him moving forward. And get rid of the fringe that looks like it was hanging on a grandmother’s lampshade- that would help as well.
I agree that the fringe and his attitude is what sank him. I too am in the age range and I liked several things and can afford it but would never spend that on clothes, I’m sitting here in gray fleece PJs bottoms with lighter gray window panes and a long sleeve gray long sleeve sort of t-shirt/not exactly sweater that looks kinda like closely sheared sheeps wool and want to wear it every day.. I could have paid five dollars for it from WalMart or felt fancy at a fancy store somewhere and bought if or “THREE FIGURES!!!” lol. I have no idea but it’s my favorite thing during my self quarantine.
Anyway, I haven’t slept in a while so I a probably not making since but that mirrored cocktail dress is to die for and Serena loved a lot of his looks. I’m actually about two decades older than my age when it comes to clothes (note I did not say fashion 🙂 ) I am with Serena. I like classics,
I did FINALLY see what the judges saw in Geoffrey with his final collection though. I think a lot of his editing all season was to play up his most vulnerable parts and actually PLAY DOWN his skills. He is certainly a deserving winner.
You both said what I feel but better than I could have. I too, am in Sergio’s age group and CANNOT afford a single thing but would not buy if I could. Even old ladies don’t want to look matronly. Brandon dresses women in clothes that could be worn by a 30-year-old or a 75-year-old. Think his clothes for Michelle Obama…
I ADORE Brandon. He is sweet and gives excellent critiques and there are times when YOU JUST KNOW he has something hysterically funny he COULD say, but refrains. Because … too mean. Korrs never would pass up that opportunity.
One thing puzzles me about Brandon. Reveals. He is the king of reveals, Lady Gaga, Met Gala. But then he rolls his eyes and “look, it’s a reveal.” I GUESS MAYBE he loves a good reveal, but not a fug or gratuitous reveal. Does anyone know?
I would be hard pressed to pick a winner because everyone had hits or misses. Sergios dresses were beautiful but I hated the fringe on the white dress and the blue top. Didn’t care for much of Geoffreys clothes, but the brocade outfit and the purple jacket/skirt were beautiful without being ridiculous. The black dresses were baggy. It’s obvious that I am not cool or part of the future. I really liked Nancy’s jumpsuit and the purple dress with the hood up. I thought Victoria was the biggest surprise. Haven’t been a fan of her aesthetic, but I thought much were modern classics. That pink streetwalker dress was not attractive and the logos were meaningless. If you’re a brand whore, no one would be impressed with kheops written across your butt.
I did appreciate that they used diverse models. Hats off to Nancy for her grit, optimism and big heart.
Agreed,
Old Tamara
?
Great recap, I am going to miss watching the show each week. Does anyone else think they may actually draft at least some of the models before leaving to create the collections? I know they had help with the alterations but they must have some idea of the sizes they need to create? Especially Nancy’s wheelchair model, she was so tiny.
Thank you so much to everyone who put time and effort into these recaps! I love Project Runway to much and it was a nice way to unwind at the end of the week. I was super impressed with everyone at the final runway. I like Sergio and his designs, but that fringe was just awful. I know Geoffrey was a fan favorite around here so I’m happy he brought it home for you all!!
Everyone who is going to miss Project Runway May enjoy Next In Fashion. (Netflix) It is SO GOOD. And you can stream the whole season. I am going back for round three, I need to see more of the fabric closets each week!
Not gonna lie, wasn’t expecting Geoffrey to win..Especially when the comment was made that his collection was a rip off/ heavily influenced by one of the greats in fashion . (The producers even went as far producing ‘receipts ‘ with a shot of said designers work Lol)
On a personal level, I found him to be a likeable dude.. Just found myself mostly underwhelmed with everything he put out this season ( aside from his first episode jumpsuit… That one was rad). So I don’t want to say I ‘ didn’t get’ his collection.. Cause I really feel I do. But even as someone who doesn’t know much about fashion, I felt I had seen what he was putting out already.. And a lot more cooler and refined.
That being said, not bummed he won , but Sergio really killed it for me in the finale. Like Geof, I wasn’t too crazy with most of his work this season, but his final collection left me in awe( and from the footage, his was the collection that the audience most responded to). It was beautiful… And imo, conveyed his global warming message perfectly.
As well as, and actually… I’ve a question for the fashion savvy, what were y’alls thoughts on the sleeves on his all white look? I found them to be super cool and innovative design wise… Do I have it all wrong? Also that blue off the shoulder piece with the white pants .. I got Ralph Lauren vibes from it… But cooler.
Ps. Nancy’s ‘liquid’ fabric was so fucking cool!
Pps. I think it was mentioned on the show, but Geoffrey has worked tons with Sharon needles from rupaul’s drag race ( Which is how I first came to know of him)… Aside from making the looks for a few of Sharon’s videos ( probably don’t recommend, cringe drag race music, but sometimes neat videos lol), they also had a collection out together . .. Anyway, I say all that to say.. There is this theory that if you are in any way ‘connected ‘ ( good or bad) to Sharon , you end up winning if competing ( alaska, violet, aquaria all taking home crowns) … I guess the streak carries on to Geoffrey and reality shows outside of drag race haha! Just a neat little tid bit.
Sergio was the one who the judges thought “borrowed” his ideas from other designers all the time. Not Geoffrey
Actually, the judges mentioned it about Geoffrey when they gave him the win.
I had forgotten about that until I read the recap. I don’t remember them showing as many pics of other designer’s work in regard to Geoffery’s designs as they did Sergio’s.
“She didn’t deserve to be in the final four”
Oh wow TT…could not agree more with that statement!!! Victoria NEVER listened and consistently ran the other designers into the dirt with her comments. I found her to be far more arrogant than Sergio with her nasty comments re other designers. Those hats were UGLY…and the logo??? The white dress was nice. I did not care for the pink looks either.
I am sorry but that line Production wrote for Karlie to announce Geoffrey’s win (…warning shot”) was CHEESY as hell!
I like most of Sergio’s clothes, we have had a non stop parade of arrogant designers over the years, so his comments did not bother me. That coupled with the fact that he regularly helped other designers in a pinch bought me some love for him.
Thanks CJ, TT and friends for recapping this show. I’ll miss watching the show and reading your recaps. I was surprised that Geoffrey won. Now that I look back, the editing was so Geoffrey heavy. The judges fooled us with the Victoria love. Was happy that Nancy made it to the runway but wonders why she uses such dark fabrics when that is not what she wears. She’s quite colorful with her personal wardrobe.
CJ, Les, TT and friends, Old Lady Greenway thanks you from the bottom of her elderly heart for such a fine season of wonderful recaps! I so appreciate your time and EFFORT!
Victoria: I knew when I saw her stupid brand plastered on everything that she was done. She was warned, so no sympathy. She does have talent, so if she can manage to heed good advice in the future, she will do well. Loved the white dress.
Sergio—I knew when I saw the fringe that he was done, too. He was also warned. His clothes are gorgeous, no doubt about it, but not what the judges were looking for. I loved his 45-lb. dress, and I would happily wear it every day of my life if I could. He’s a good kid at heart, just socially awkward, and he will do well.
Nancy—my girl. I just love her. Loved the opera coat—I’m going to wear that every day over my 45-lb. Sergio dress! I wish she had some more fitted pieces. Loved the liquid fabric, but there was a lot of it. We needed something to cleanse the palate. I will continue to cheer Nancy on!
Geoffrey— my sweet boy. I admit I don’t “get” a lot of his stuff, but it’s fascinating. His dresses are too unfitted for my taste, and I don’t get the appeal of the giant puffer coats. But I couldn’t take my eyes off anything. I want to see more of how his mind works. I loved his chat with his dad at the end. Geoffrey is such a good-hearted person, you can’t help but cheer him on! A worthy winner.
Is anyone watching Tim Gunn and Heidi on Amazon, Making The Cut?
