MAFS Recap: Deception Indicated!

March 12, 2020 by tamaratattles 19 Comments

I am really behind on my MAFS Recaps. It’s hard to tell how far because I have eleventy billion versions of each episode. So I am going to get started on it now, at 2:22 am because I am awake and am not planning to leave the house except to go buy wine some time later today. Then, I am self quarantining for the foreseeable future. The first two hour taping I have starts with Michael being the world’s worst liar. That was the last episode I recapped here. Moving on…

What’s Cooking?

The couples  go to a group cooking class.  Zach still hasn’t moved in to the apartment with Mindy. Derek and Katie are still fine. Meka and Michael seem kind of miserable. But at least they are there. Taylor and Brandon are MIA.Meka and Michael give very limited information about why Taylor and Brandon were not there. But Katie had already seen video so they have a conversation. It seems most agree that Taylor is a twat. Jessica and Austin feel uncomfortable talking about how well things are going for them. Zach of all people suggests that their positive situation is helpful to the rest of them.

MAFS RecapTaylor & Brandon

Dr. Pepper FINALLY decides to meet with these two. Brandon hasn’t seen Taylor since he left. He tells Dr. Pepper that he is only there for an explanation from Taylor about what she did. Taylor claims she hasn’t done anything to him and she has not idea why he left. She is such a liar. Then she has an attitude and says that she did make a video but it wasn’t directed at him and she didn’t direct at him and she didn’t do anything wrong.

I know Brandon has been a dick, but I hate Taylor. Brandon says that she is just there for the cameras and followers. I agree. Taylor will not apologize because she is not sorry. Brandon says he is done. Brandon says she goes to bars and guys call the house. She calls him a liar. Brandon leaves. Taylor is playing the victim game and fake crying. Shut up Taylor. This is not going to get you any acting roles. I hope we have seen the last of her.

The One Month Anniversary

Sadly, we have not seen the last of Taylor. Apparently, they held these two in captivity in two different apartment. Brandon tells us that Taylor has reached out to him trying to get her air time back to give it one more shot. She has not apologized and Brandon isn’t really into it but they meet for lunch. WTF? It’s not lunch, it’s a manicure. This is so Taylor. Pastor Cal has done lost his mind. We need all new experts that are actually experts. And we need open cattle calls again, and no more casting media whores from Instagram.

Click Here For More MAFS Recaps

Taylor got him a card because “they have known each other for a month.” Nope. According to the show you have been married for a month. In the card she gave a half-assed apology. Brandon is not buying it and neither am I. He asks if she has anything to get off her chest. She says no. She is trying to get rid of any animosity she has toward him. REALLY? She feels like he just doesn’t let things go.

The arguments start anew. It is the same old, same old. She says he makes the video about him. Below I talk about sociopathy with regard to Michael. I think Taylor ticks the most boxes in that regard. Brandon says he doesn’t want to continue on with this. He slyly mentions that he is glad they got to have this conversation on TV. Michael leaves.

MAFS RecapMindy & Zach

Dr. Pepper meets with these two. I’m not sure it is going to go that much better. In this couple, Zach is just there to be on TV. This needs to end soon. But Zach doesn’t want to leave…the cameras. Dr. Pepper is on to Zach. She basically tells him to move in or go home. Wow. I guess he will be moving in. She tells them to go to a tantric yoga breathing exercise.

The One Month Anniversary

These two go to dinner for their anniversary. Mindy brings up the wedding. Zach focuses on the photo shoots. Mindy suggests he try spending the night and see how that goes. Mindy says it feels like a slap in the face to her that he isn’t keeping his commitment. She asks him if he has a girlfriend, or if he is gay. Ooooh He doesn’t like that question.

Click Here For More MAFS Recaps

Then he accuses Mindy of not being honest with him throughout the whole experience….ooooh do tell! Zach says that he knows that before the wedding, while they were at Panama and afterward she did something deceitful. He says he has know the whole time and that is why he doesn’t think she is truly giving the relationship her honest effort. Zach says all of her friends facilitated it. Mindy has no idea what he is talking about.

Zach Was Accusing Mindy Of Something He Was Doing!

Later that day, Mindy is going through their wedding photos. Each couple received them on their anniversary. She calls Zach to come over and he agrees. Because, cameras. Zach of course loves the photo album. Because, pictures of him. Zach is in a great mood. Mindy is really upset. Zach refuses to tell her what he is accusing her of.

Click Here For More MAFS Recaps

Since he has indicated her friends are somehow complicit, she asks if he has reached out to them. He says Lindsey has reached out to him. She followed him on Instagram and when she noticed him not wearing his ring, she DMed him. He talked to her on the phone extensively about the marriage.  Mindy feels betrayed by both of them. Mindy asks if Lindsey said something that upset him and that is what an issue is? He has never called Mindy on the phone before, but he calls Lindsey? What a total douchebag. Then he just leaves. This is bizarre.

With Friends Like This…

Oh God. Here we go with the “friend” call. I hate this already. Mindy has been through so much without some backstabbing POS friend. Mindy starts the conversation by saying that she can forgive Lindsay even before she hears what she has done. No. This bitch needs to be out of your life forever.

She’s having more communication with your husband than you are! She probably talked to him first before this call. She says that Zach texted her this morning. He was wishing her a happy Friday and telling her good morning. I would kill them both. He calls her after their dates to discuss them with her. I am furious and I am not even involved in this. She says she is building a friendship with him beyond conversations about Mindy. Oh, suddenly she doesn’t have any of the texts. Someone is lying.

Click Here For More MAFS Recaps

Lindsey slips up and says she told him she didn’t want to talk to him anymore….UNTIL FILMING IS OVER.  Then she said she was not going to talk to him when filming is over. She also said she deleted his texts so she wouldn’t have his number. Now she is saying she is going to block his number right now. She says he is a liar and a sociopath. Well, one of them is. And as sketchy as Zach is, my money is on Lindsey. The is awful. It’s one thing to cheat. It’s another to do it with your wife’s close friend.

MAFS RecapMeka & Michael

Just when I thought Michael could not be a stupider liar he tops himself. This time he invited Meka to join him for yoga. This was an off camera activity thought up by Michael. Michael told her that he teaches yoga there. That was a lie. Now how are you going to take someone to a yoga studio where you don’t teach and expect not to be found out? Meka takes him to lunch to confront him. When she says Michael would not discuss the situation with her at the time, he says that is because she started the conversation wrong by saying it was a waste of her time. Michael is pissy because she talked to Brandon. Somehow he ends up screaming at Meka. She is over his lying. He is over her. Great. Let’s end this one too!

Click Here For More MAFS Recaps

And so, Dr. Pepper shows up. Michael makes up a brand new lie about the yoga lie. By the way, Meka said the employees she spoke to says that Michael cleans the rooms. He’s a janitor there. Michael says he doesn’t have his own personal class, but he is a substitute. And the reason the management didn’t know this is because they have a lot of turnover with the managers at the yoga school. I don’t think Micheal is a teacher either. I don’t think anything he said is true. In the package, probably called Michael’s lies, he told Pastor Cal he teaches yoga three times a week. He told Dr. Pepper that he practices two or three times a week and teaches once a month. Dr. Pepper gets Michael to admit that some of the things he says are not true.

MAFS RecapTheir One Month Anniversary

The other episode I have is also 58 minutes long and it is the anniversary episode. Meka gives Michael a pack of three ties because he says he is most comfortable in a suit. Fun fact: Teachers do not wear suits to work. Nor do most principals. Or cleaning personnel at yoga studios. Michael announces on camera that he has bought tickets for them to go to Jamaica and swim with dolphins.

Click Here For More MAFS Recaps

He’s lying. First of all, I doubt production would approve this trip. Second of all, you can’t afford that as a janitor at a yoga studio. And finally, he has no tickets, nor does he pull up anything on his phone to show where they or going. Ha! Meka doesn’t believe him either. She says in her talking head, “Honestly, I hope this is not too good to be true.” This guy is a pathological liar. Everything he says is a lie. How do people do this even when everyone knows they are lying? It’s a sickness. He is mentally ill. Pathological lying is a symptom of sociopathy. I believe they changed the name of that since I went to school, but it is what it is. However, while Michael meets some of the criteria, he lacks the charm and intelligence of a sociopath. So I don’t know wtf this dude’s problem is.

Katie and Derek

Look, I get we haven’t had any camera time with these two in quite a while, but I need to see Mindy calling her “friend” right now. Not this cutesy stuff. Derek is a sweet heart. He had some of the wedding photos framed. He made a photo album of them and some of their family photos. These two are cute. But, I know a secret about Katie. She is deceptive.

Next time, they have a “commitment day.” I presume they are getting ready for the pre-decision day trip and trying to save money on tickets. We have not seen Jessica and Austen except at the cooking event. They didn’t say much. It seems like next week, we find out what split them up. This episode is a clusterfuck, but it sure is interesting.

Honestly, I have lost interest in this season. Mindy seems to be the whole package and Zach can’t see past himself. Meka deserves so much better. How did Michael get past the people who vet these contestants? Brandon and Taylor deserve each other. I am sad for Jessica and Austen but they make for very awkward viewing. I also feel bad for Derek if Katie is playing him. I may watch next week to see what goes down between J&A.

I’m the opposite. I am ALL IN on this season after this episode. It’s just all about the fakery coming out regarding these people. I can’t wait for the next episode.

Taylor had me hoodwinked at first. But she showed her true colors to reveal what a fake bi…uh, I mean person she is. She didn’t know what she did wrong? Oh please! If she had said I had all I could take, I was frustrated and angry and I lashed out to retaliate, I could at least respect her for being honest. Plus those alligator tears! Dr. Pepper sat there looking sympathetic instead of calling her out. I have no respect for the “experts” anymore. They have phoned it in this season. Brandon was no prize but neither was Taylor. I don’t think Brandon was a good candidate for the show but maybe with a more sincere partner he might have had a chance. Taylor’s list of requirements for a partner? Over 6’3″ eliminates most of the population right off the bat. What a shallow bi….person.

I agree. I’m very disappointed in the experts. Brandon was a Jerk however I feel something else was going on. Taylor is a Liar & a manipulator trying to work her way off her mom’s couch where she stays. I’m almost sure there was something going on we where not privy to. Remember the cameraman & production controlled what we saw. I think to get ahead Taylor went after one of the production people to get them on her side. When they were in the bathroom who felt the need to go for the program manager apparently for Taylor’s safety. Taylor Is the puppet master she don’t need protecting . Clearly there is another story going on here. We actually heard very little from Brandon during this show. He seemed to be trying 2 get it in when he was allowed. Brandon main issue was he didn’t know how to deal with a liar & manipulator like Taylor who wouldn’t let him get a world in. Everyone was shocked Brandon Clicked including me. The experts need to find out why. A Person doesn’t go off for no reason. There was a lot edited between him and the cameraman. Why? When u tell, tell it ALL.

Zach: master deflector, obfuscator, ghoster and now add gaslighter to the list. All that about her not being honest? And he can’t come out and tell her what he’s referring to? It makes me cringe when Mindy lights up every time Zach throws her a crumb of hope. Mindy was all into the tantric session and Zach was strictly going through the motions. With all this about the conversations with her girlfriend, she needs to move back to her own house and then move on. Zach is disingenuous at best and who needs that in a spouse? She deserves much better.

HIs refusal to tell her what she was withholding was some total gaslighting BS. I’m amazed she kept her cool as well as she did.

For the record I’d like to point out I was recapping this at 4 am, because awake…. but I didn’t see the tantric thing happen. I’ve seen it in the ads though. And the reason I am so confused is because I have two hour episodes and one hour episodes and People’s Couch episodes and frankly the two hour shows and the one hour shows are different. It’s all a cluster fuck. But I like this season just because it s so horrifying and there is always some sort of shock factor like Zach having phone sex with some random “friend” of Mindys.

I know what you mean, I’ve just been deleting all the spin-offs because #1 I don’t really care for what’s her name as a host and B I don’t need to see the same thing rehashed twenty times. Unlike pillow talk, which is hilarious, the spin offs leave me cold.

Yes and he deserves the manipulator who won’t respect him anymore than she did her friend. There’s a reason she’s single zack. Remember what goes around comes around.

Does Michael have any pants left in his closet because they have all been on fire. The yoga thing is beyond belief. If he’ll lie about something that can so easily be proven untrue then he will definitely lie about anything. This validated my theory that there never was a job offer. It was all made up and then he lied about it falling through. Meka is another one who needs to move back home and pull the plug. I don’t know what Michael’s major malfunction is, but one cannot be married to someone who can’t be trusted about ANYTHING. Meka said from the beginning he was lying. This turned out to be more true than any of us could have thought. I don’t understand how he got on the show. The producers and experts are ruining what was a perfectly good concept and show. Very disappointing.

DVR issues last night (caused by husband) means I missed some of the show, like the lunch between Brandon and Taylor. But that is so over. I agree that Taylor is awful. I knew Brandon was bad and kind of saw that coming, with his anxiety and awkwardness at the wedding. But she is so fake, butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth. And she just lives for the cameras, and her tears are because her camera time is up, and she didn’t look as good as she had hoped.

But damn! the couch conversation between Mindy and Zach and the phone call between Mindy and Lindsay were very well done! If Mindy quits her coaching gig, she should consider a career as an interviewer/interrogator. So interesting that Zach and Lindsay struck up a relationship that would be continued “after filming ends”.

So the show has officially jumped the shark. The majority of participants are there for media-whore reasons, not to find love. So they treat the marriage as a sham and don’t nurture it. So there is no real reason to watch it.

I’m sad that Austen and Jessica have a blow up next week. What a shame. She seems to really be into him.

Geez-us what a mess of a season…..I agree the so called experts need to be replaced. I said a few weeks ago that Taylor ignoring Brandon’s request about laying off the social media proved she cared nothing about him and was only in it for herself and I stand by my comment Taylor and Zach should have been paired together. Why Michael even made it on this show proves the “experts” and the production company are not taking any of this seriously and the damage done by people like Luke to Kate doesn’t make for entertaining tv. So here we go with Zack and Mindy the gall of him to sit there and say Mindy is deceptive while he is Calling her friend (note to Mindy: Lindsey is Not Your Friend), proved by her saying she wouldn’t speak with him again until after filming as well as deleting all of his texts proves she is hiding a lot more than casual conversation. I can’t believe Mindy is staying in this. When has Zach ever texted her to say Happy Friday or Even Called Her? Mindy will need experts for a long time after this experience.

I watched last night and just thought, MINDY YOU NEED TO DUMP EVERYONE IN YOUR LIFE, GIRL. Dump EVERYONE. Just start over! And don’t take any advice from those “experts” as you get new friends.

Michael was 100% looking up Groupons for dolphin swimming when he was talking to Meka, and I’m sure she knows it.

Taylor is the worst. Although Lindsey is right up there with her.

Zach told Mindy that he hadn’t been in contact with her friend for days and that they’d only talked once. The friend told Mindy Zach had texted that morning, and they had talked more than once. She couldn’t screenshot the text because she deletes texts from people she feels she shouldn’t be texting with. This explanation makes no sense at all. The friend said right from the beginning of the call that she would tell Mindy everything. She was expecting the call, obviously. Unfortunately, Mindy kept asking questions. She should have let the friend say whatever she wanted to and then come back with specific questions. Zach is being manipulative beyond words. They need a genuine expert in there right now!

Brandon is a baby, but a Taylor is a liar, and not a good one. There is no way in hell that Michael booked a trip to Jamaica. I don’t know why these two couples don’t just give up. They have zero relationship with their spouses. Brandon is the only one willing to cut to the inevitable.
Katie and Derek are sabotaging their own relationship. They need to shelve the love conversation for a while.

MAFS has too many shows. The couch one, the actual show, and the Jamie Otis show. I can see why TT has so many version on her DVR. On the Jamie Otis one last night you could see Pastor Cal was over the whole thing. I’m disappointed that he didn’t take Taylor to task about the video. I think her fake tears fooled him like they fooled Dr. Pepper.

I can’t understand why Mindy still has hopes for Zach. Whoever said her face lights up is spot on – it’s sickening. And why would she begin her conversation with Lindsey saying she’d forgive her? Something is not right here… Do they get a bonus if they give 120%? I feel sorry for Mindy. I suspect her life is filled with these types of people & situations.

I didn’t watch the scenes b/t the other two couples. I ff’d through those – wasn’t in the mood for them. Austin’s hair irks me and Katie is a brat.

I’m no fan of Michael or Meeka for that matter. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but he definitely has a problem. Why lie about things that are easily proven? I don’t think Meeka is a warm and fuzzy person even in optimal situations. Michael tried to be nice and cook breakfast for her and she was sour about that. Even though you hate breakfast the sentiment was nice – at least appreciate that. She didn’t really look happy on her wedding day.

Seems like instead of interacting with the “experts” this season, they have the couples just doing stuff with each other and talking amongst themselves. Even when the couples get some work to do, it hardly seems tailored to the couple. Sending Zach and Mindy to a tantric session made me uncomfortable, and I didn’t even have to do it! They are so far apart in every way jumping into the tantric stuff seemed weird and inappropriate. Couples who have no problems with physical intimacy got physical intimacy exercises to do. I had the impression some PA just grabbed a bunch of old exercises from previous shows and sent them randomly to the couples.

It really bothered me when the expert tried to explain Michael’s lying and said something along the lines of them both needing to forgive and work with each other. While it may be true that his need for acceptance causes him to lie, Meeka should not have to stay in this marriage. Perhaps if they had been together a long time and kids were involved, it might be worth understanding his motivations better and working with him on it. But the way the expert explained it away made it feel like Meeka should just go ahead and live with it and also that whatever she was doing was just as bad.

Watching Katie and Derek fight, it seemed like they needed get beyond who said what and just figure out what the original issue was and what they needed. You had a miscommunication, accept it and move on!

Dying to know what Zach is talking about. To listen to him, you’d think she’s hiding a pregnancy by another guy or something.

Totally agree. I feel like the “experts” are just trying to keep people together because it looks bad for them if these “matches” fall apart within weeks of the wedding. I haven’t heard Vivianna say anything insightful or specific the whole time. She speaks in vague generalities. Cal has platitudes that do nothing for anyone. Dr. Pepper is the biggest disappointment. I always felt like she had the most to offer and this season she’s been useless.
Zach is just stepping up his deflection to gaslighting status. Oldest trick in the relationship book: when someone is calling you out, turn the tables and make them question themselves.
