60 Days In Recap: Was It Enough?

March 7, 2020 by tamaratattles 18 Comments

60 Days In RecapWith only three undercovers left in the Etowah Jail, my duties writing 60 Days In recaps is rapidly coming to a close. Wikipedia is showing one more episode and it doesn’t seem like it is a reunion. We definitely need a reunion for this season, A&E!

Listening to Sheriff Horton talk about the jail he inherited and how it was full of drugs. Why did it take 60 days in to do simple things like start searching the inmates and doing a full drug sweep of each pod? Why don’t they watch the security cameras with the security personnel here and there? We are getting a review of all the tap outs and Ashley’s pull out. Perhaps the next episode is a reunion. It’s time to pull out the last three.

60 Days In Recap
Are you getting my good side?

Men’s Pod

Dennis managed to buy meth from Megatron and then he gave some to Megatron for his personal use. He is such an idiot. Then he turns what little he has left over to production because he is afraid to have it on him. They give it to the Sheriff.

Tony is getting too full of himself. He’s starting to have an inmate mentality for real. We have seen this on other seasons. Is he saying he has $300 of earnings from his commissary in cash? Or in trade? How would there be cash in the jail?

Dennis gets released and he walks like he has been riding in the rodeo for year and his legs are stuck on bow legged. He runs to the van. He has smuggled his shank out of jail. Why is that a big deal. I can’t believe they have to go through a metal detector on the way out.

Tony is released. And he leaves his massive commissary to his two cell mates to split. Tony is so happy to be out. So, you know they are going to ask him to do 60 more days.

Women’s Pod

Jennifer is the last one standing in the women’s pod. She is at a church service in the pod praying when she hears Ciara going off in her cell again. She stays on the ground floor with the church group and looks up at Ciara and starts praying for her. Ciara seems to calm down. Apparently, Jennifer’s plan is to pray the demons out of Ciara. I am all for that but she needs to be taken out of there and put somewhere where she can get on some medication.

Much later, Ciara has popped her locks (again, why is this a possible thing?) and is running around the pod talking about demons in her cell. (gee I wonder where she got that from?) Ciara tell the others that all it takes to pop the locks is to throw a bottle of water on them.

What Are The Requirements To Be A Guard?

On a side note, perhaps there should be a physical exam for the guards.  Check for medical issues and also have them pass a physical test and show they can run quickly to the scene of a disruption. The one on duty now at least seems to know she should stop Ciara from threatening people. However a glacier could have grown out to reach her faster than the guard, who seem to give up on the first landing of the staircase. Jennifer actually is the one who talks her down. So the guard wants Ciara to sleep in Jennifer’s cell.

When Ciara goes in for the night with Jennifer she seems sane. She starts talking about how being locked up alone all the time makes you crazy. She says it like a perfectly normal sounding person. They are basically having a sleepover. Ciara says she has a prescription for Adderall and Xanax in jail and when she doesn’t get them she takes ICE to hold her over. Why is she not getting her meds?

Click Here For More 60 Days In Recaps (All Seasons)

And what idiot prescribed those to meds together? They literally do the opposite things. She doesn’t need the Adderall. But she is probably addicted to it by now. Oh wait. Those her prescriptions on the outside. They give her NOTHING on the inside. They don’t give anyone their meds on the inside. So that is why she takes the ICE. That is insane. It’s even crazier when Ciara says she was focusing on Jennifer in the church service because she was the only one she could see. She says it calmed her down. Jennifer is released what seems to be the next day.

60 Days In RecapShowdown With The Sheriff

Both Sheriff Horton and Chief Peek are not thrilled with Dennis’ performance in the jail. Dennis walks into the meeting expecting some sort of reward. The seem grateful for him getting the shank out. But it seems he did too little too late.

Jennifer once again mentions the fact that the intake process is a joke. They were told that the cell locks could be disengaged with water. Sheriff Horton says Jennifer was fine from an evangelical standpoint. However, they really need more information.

Click Here For More 60 Days In Recaps (All Seasons)

Tony has a ton of information especially about the guard training. They don’t have enough equipment on their belts. It doesn’t appear they have been properly trained. During the stabbing they basically did nothing at a no time was the attacker even restrained.  Tony also had two shanks, a razor blade, coke, clone and just a ton of information.

During the debrief with production Sheriff Horton says he would do it again if they had more people like Tony. So they are doing another 30 days with all law enforcement types. The next episode title is Special Ops so it might be just one episode of highlights? I dunno. But it looks even rougher than the first round.

I loved Tony but the previews of the new show make me concerned he is too ingrained in the jail and forgets he’s a participant, not an actual .inmate

I have yet to watch this episode but I find it hilarious that Dennis thought they were going to be thrilled with his time inside. He sucked. And you’re right he walks really bow-legged, its distracting lol … I can appreciate that Jennifer cared about Ciara but she didn’t actually accomplish a thing inside.

I really hope their is a reunion!!!!!

I was thinking they are going to do another season, a little shorter. Wouldnt that be amazing? I am also not in agreement with Tony going back, he is still a bit of a wild card. I am glad Jennifer and Dennis finished, but I think both of them dont quite have enough smarts to do this job properly.
I hope they do an update on Ciara as well, poor thing needs psychopharmacology pretty badly.
Was it enough? No way, I need more.

Love this show. But something from the Sheriff feels off this season. In previous seasons I have believed that the Sheriff was involved to truly make the facilities better. This Sheriff is giving me reality star vibes. Like he wants to do the show to be on tv. Get himself some publicity. They HAVE to already know that a lot of this is a problem in the jail.

Regardless if my feelings for this seasons Sheriff, I do enjoy this show. This season went by fast. I am interested to see how the law enforcement folks do inside. It’s a good concept for a new season.

The cast for this season really failed. The three that were left were fine but other seasons have done a better job. Was the jail really that rough? Or did the casting just suck?

It seems like Dennis and Tony didn’t start to do anything until they both wanted to try to compete against each other..Wjo would get the most drugs faster..They also cut out the part when Tony and the drug dealer almost got caught when the guard came up on them..Commercial..This season was terrible..The sheriff sucked and so did his co-workers..With Dennis’s Adams apple and his legs it was too distracting..He didn’t look good at all, even though he thought he did..

Dennis walks like he has a hula hoop taped to his ankle it is very distracting. He walks like on of the overemphasized cartoon cowboys wearing chaps and spurs who is running away from a wild hog.

Lisaj I agree with you about the Sheriff watching the footage of this show! It shows where Megatron got his dope from so why not raid his cell after season ends?
As I said before, Dennis and Tony were trying so hard to outdo each other.

Dennis sucked. He was cocky from the start. It would of been great if he got his ass beat! Tony was the man and I thought he had the MOST to bring to the sheriff. Amber would have been great if she didn’t blow her cover. Looking forward to seeing the 30 day episode!!

The preview for the special ops makes the jail look like it is out of control and worse than the last 60 days. Did the sheriff not make any changes?
I feel let down by the exit interviews. I hope they have a finale reunion to get a better picture of how the participants felt about their time inside.

I felt let down by the exit interviews also. They were way too brief for us to have seen them in their entirety, but if these were the highlights, they were pretty meh.

Seems to me the sheriff could have learned plenty of info about what is wrong just by watching cameras of inside, not even having participants. Maybe learning that Megatron was who to ask about getting drugs was something they wouldn’t have known otherwise, and seeing who gave the drugs to Megatron. But other than that, the cameras captured most of it.

And doing better searches at intake would be an obvious reform for anyone to know to make, plus having guards better trained, supplied, and protected. Anyone just watching the cameras could make a list of dozens of ways to improve.

Like many reality shows, the longer a show airs, the more you get participants who just want to be on TV, and the further you get from the point/benefit of the show.

Dennis is bow legged and watching the last episode I am thinking is this dude okay? Dude hasn’t played football in a decade from what I can find and it wouldn’t really matter. Someone commented he looks like he is riding in the rodeo when he walks and thats spot on. I think he should see a doctor. Tony is the only one this season (added late) who did his job the others got caught up in the survival aspect. If they wanted people to just go survive jail then thats a different show. Dennis buying the smallest amount of drugs possible and getting a nail shouldn’t impress anyone and really gives no info to the county. Overall this season was interesting from a viewer standpoint and probably disastrous from a practical standpoint. Dennis go get your legs checked out, you walk like you have a hula hoop around your ankles. Strange.

It’s weird that we are not big fans of the sheriff. We usually are. I didn’t think we saw him much at all and y’all seem to think we saw him a lot. We did see Chief Peek a good bit.

And they don’t need to “ask Megatron where the drugs are coming from, they need to give him more charges and use the surveillance cameras to show is drug deals. They need guards don’t look the other way when there are drug deals and stabbings. I have more consequences for behavior in my second grade class room.

Thy need more than one pod for the women, They do not need to house the mentally ill there. They especially don’t need to be housing the mentally ill on the second floor. They do not need to let mentally ill people or ANYONE run around the body convulsing and screaming and knocking over furntiure,

I’m not sure what sort of secret undercover information this sheriff wanted, but he has months of things he needs to implement immediately. Thing that he could have done during that 60 days without anyone doing a TV. WHAT DID HE DO DURING THE 60 DAYS? Let’s hope it was hiring new staff and giving them the same type of rigorous training they give police officers. The guards need to be athletic and strong and not afraid of the inmates.

It would be great to see a recap of the changes made in the previous jails. We really see just a snippet of the exit interviews so we don’t know if participants really make any difference.
Other than Ms William’s being fired and COs getting tasers and mace, we really dont know if any good comes of this program.

Mentally ill people should be housed separate and medications should be doled out. Would they hold insulin from the diabetics?

I loved Tony…he knew how to act since he is a CO and understands the inmate mentality. The other dipstick seemed to think it was all a game and was too cocky. Why do these jails only have 1 women’s pod? These days there is almost as many women as men in jail.

Oh yeah, they would withhold insulin. They would withhold insulin that the inmate provided themselves, because they don’t have anyone to dispense it, and then when he goes into a diabetic coma, they would release him on medical bond so they don’t have to pay for it. Alabama is notoriously bad for this.
