UPDATE: “Weinstein was on his way to Rikers Island when the ambulance went to Bellevue Hospital, Weinstein spokeswoman Juda Engelmayer told CNN Monday evening. The reason for the hospital visit was not immediately clear.” According to CNN’s Chole Melas.
UPDATE 2: Weinstein’s attorneys were on Fox News tonight and I am watching the interview now. Attorney Donna Rotunno said just after 7pm eastern time that the judge was aware of Weinstein’s medical conditions and they would be accomadated at Rikers. She also mentioned he was experiencing high blood pressure and heart palpitations after the verdict and sought treatment.
The verdict is on on the current Harvey Weinstein rape trial. The jury was unable to come to a unanimous decision on the most serious three charges including one or more that required life in prison. Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of two of the charges. He was found guilty of criminal sexual act in the first degree. That has a sentence of up to four years. And, rape in the third degree. With a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of 25 years.
Weinstein, has been out of jail during the trial. But,. could be remanded into custody today.ence. His lawyers are already in appellate court. They are asking a judge not to send him directly to jail while waiting for an appeal.
Weinstein will be 68 on March 19th. If he only gets the mandatory time he would be 73 upon release from this sentence.
Weinstein was charged in two more cases by the LA district attorney on January 6, 2020. The events happened on two nights in a row. Weinstein was charged with raping one woman and sexually assaulting another in separate incidents over a two-day period in 2013. The felony charges include forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by use of force and sexual battery by restraint. I am not aware of any date set for that trial. I assume they were waiting for the end of the NY trial.
Weinstein left the court in handcuffs to be processed into prison.
