It’s been a while since we’ve had a MAFS recap, so no time like the present, right? This season is a terrible in terms of the matchups, but sometimes watching a lot of bad matches can be interesting. Spoiler Alert! Only one couple stays together at the final ceremony, only to break up a couple of weeks later. I am hearing the tried to reconcile but I am not sure if it stuck. This is what happens when you choose cute people off of social media instead of the people who come to the open call who actually want to get married. You have to be really wanting to get married for this thing to work! Ugh it’s two hours.
Jessica & Austin
These two goofballs seem to have the most in common to me and are the best match of them all. I wonder what on earth happens to break of this relationship. If I had to guess, I’d say it will be Austin’s mother. Austin made dinner for Jessica and had it ready when she came home from work.
When their friends come to visit, Austin’s friends are shocked that he is making the bed everyday and helping around the house. I mean, he’s got to earn his keep somehow. Jessica is great at beer pong. After she schools the boys she takes the girls into the bedroom to chat while the guys play another game. Austin tells the guys he is really happy with with his marriage. Jessica wants to pump the girls for information. His girlfriends speak highly to him.
Taylor & Brandon
Brandon is missing his XBox time. Growing up is haaard, yo! Taylor goes out for drinks with girlfriends to give them an update on her new marriage. She tells them about their fight over her videotaping him sleeping and his sweet makeup with her. But, Taylor did get very aggressive with production and then with her. Also, on the bus ride to the airport he was cursing out production the whole way. Then, Pastor Cal patched them back up.
I am worried about Brandon at the friends and family get together. It’s also a birthday party for Taylor’s aunt. This means Taylor has more people there for her. Brandon’s mother is there so maybe he will behave. Taylor’s dog won’t stop humping Brandon. She says it is a sign of dominance and Taylor needs to man up. Taylor’s friends air many concerns about Brandon’s temper to him. They are not letting him just dismiss things. Brandon’s mother tries to defend him. She says that sort of behavior is not indicative of his normal behavior. After everyone left, Brandon seems salty and uncommunicative.
Katie & Derek
Derek has told Katie that he doesn’t think he can fall in love in less than six to twelve months. Katie can’t stop comparing him to her ex who she seems hung up on. Katie is grossed out that he has to tell about his um… morning constitutional. That would be a deal breaker for me. What you do in the bathroom is none of my business. I am grossed out just typing this. Katie annoys me. These two are very similar. That is, they are both annoying.
When these two have their friends over, they ask how the other couples are doing. Katie says she feels like they are doing the best. They break into gender groups. Katie says she wishes that she didn’t have to initiate all the time. Derek tells the guys they both initiate sex equally. Katie once again mentions that Derek doesn’t think he can fall in love by decision day. Derek says that relationship progress kind of slowed down once they got busy with moving in.
Meka says things are much better with Michael. They went from separate rooms on their honeymoon to sleeping in the same bed back home. Mindy shares that Zach did not move in with her. He hasn’t even been to the apartment yet. Meka says she is proof that things can turn around. The girls don’t think that Katie is that into Derek. Jessica says she is not concerned that Austen doesn’t make much. I am not sure I believe her. Amber says he is just really aggressive and difficult with production and that worries her. But he is sweet with her off camera. She expecting a lot of change from him if he wants to move forward.
Guys Pub Lunch
Michael is excited. He says he has become more mindful about what he says to her. And they are in a good place that is helping to propel them into other things. Brandon is not there and the guys think maybe he had to work on Saturday? Zach tells the guys that he didn’t move in. None of the guys seem to care for Zach and the way he treats Mindy. Derek basically says he can’t see being in love by decision day. Austen talks about cleaning. Then Brandon shows up! Brandon says he was ambushed by Pastor Cal. He says that they are in separate bedrooms. Bran seems to want to to go back to his apartment. But, He says things are improving.
Meka & Michael
I guess these two want to spice things up, at least in the kitchen. So, we catch up to them in a spice shop. Despite Meka’s positive spin on their relationship with the girls at the picnic, they don’t exactly seem to geehaw. Just check out Meka’s body language. Then Michael wants to buy some of the shop’s tea. Meka mutters, “I don’t drink tea.” Later, they have a talk about why Michael is not wearing his ring. Micheal agrees to wear it and not take it off when he gets angry and frustrated with Meka. He’s fully committed.
Later, Michael seemed comfortable around her family. He asked her mother if she had any advice and he listened to it. Meka’s mom is beautiful and smart. I see where Meka gets it from. That’s a nice gene pool.
Mindy & Zach
Zach is an utter douchebag. I feel so badly for Mindy she deserves better than this. I am proud of her for telling Zach she feels she is owed an apology and an explanation as to why she is going through this alone. He says the best he can do is “continue to get to know her and value this friendship.” She points out they are not friends, they are married. The fact that Zach is wearing his ring makes me think that production told all the guys they had to put their rings back on this episode.
During their group time with friends (and maybe Zach’s fam?), they play Giant Jenga. Fittingly, Zach is the one who brings the entire tower crashing down. I wish Mindy would just go home with whoever these people are. Isn’t her family refusing to participate? Mindy’s friends don’t like him any more than we do. Zach seems to enjoy his slick talk and entrapping the girl and then watching her suffer. He’s a pretty twisted guy. I almost wonder how he got that way and then realize I don’t care.
Mindy’s friends come over for friends and family time and trash Zach. Mindy tells them she has invited Zach over. They are not pleased. Zach shows up with his dog and rings the doorbell as one’s husband does. Mindy is thrilled he showed up. When her friends ask some basic questions she tries to cut them off.
Next week: The experts have them talking about the time it takes to fall in love. Meka and Michael have another fight because Michael thinks she called him a liar. Brandon also has another meltdown and appears to leave the apartment. This time it appears to be for good reason. Taylor has made an Instastory where is says she single and can’t seem to find the right guy. Brandon sees it. Whoopsie.
