My email and social media has been full of questions about Southern Charm. So here is a Southern Charm update. The most common was asked if Southern Charm had been cancelled. The answer is no. At least not yet. Let’s back up to mid September, 2019. Haymaker had hired two new faces for season seven (SEVEN!) of Southern Charm. The old gang and the two news filmed for four weeks. In mid October, Haymaker sent their first rough cut to Bravo.
Then something happened that has never happened before. Because, Haymaker. Generally, Bravo takes a look at the rough cut and either says it is fine, or sends it back with notes. Notes are things they want fixed and then the rough cut is resubmitted for approval. But, neither of those things happened.
If At First You Don’t Succeed…
Instead, Bravo basically said, the rough cut was crap, and the new people are boring. Haymaker was told to recast the newbies and start over from square one. The only thing that could have happened that would have been worse for Haymaker would be for them to be fired as the production company. Then either the show would be cancelled or they would hire a new production company. If I were in charge, I would have gone with option B. Because, Haymaker.
So, Haymaker went about looking for people to cast on the show. They also needed to vamp up everyone’s storyline. That is when Kathrnyn Dennis approached Bravo about filming with Thomas Ravenel. Apparently, she though it would be good for ratings for them to film drop off and pickups. Or phone calls about custody. It seems highly unlikely the Bravo suits would do that, but this is the misogyny channel so you never know.
Try, Try Again.
Then Thomas, the poster child for mental health, sobriety at that time said he would film with Bravo again for a million dollars and full control of his edit. Then he called me a fat, old, drunk, crazy lady. So clearly, he reads my blog. Hey, Thomas! The next thing you know it was the holiday season. So things were pushed back until January. By the beginning of February they were ready to go.
So, last Saturday, principal photography began. Principal photography is what we call filming season. So they filmed something on Saturday. It was nothing that will be on the show most likely. Probably just prepping the newbies and doing test shots with whoever was in town and available.
Ask Me Again In A Month
So, here we go again. They will film for three or four weeks and then, once again send the “first” rough cut to Bravo for feedback. If they don’t get it right this time, there probably will not be a season seven. I have been talking to my sources about this since I was told principal photography has begun. There really isn’t much to tell at this point. There is at this time no guarantee there will be a Southern Charm. These next few weeks of filming will be the deciding factor. I should hear when the rough cut is sent and how it was received so I’ll let you now early to mid March.
Personally, I feel like they should stop beating the horse. But we shall see. I believe this is Haymakers only gig. So they have a lot on the line to get it right this time. So, again, the answer is no. Southern Charm has not been cancelled. But there is as of now also not guarantee there will be a season.
