I am still liking Spy Games on Bravo. That means it will be a one season wonder. Also the first episode got about 400,000 views which was more than WWHL with Ashton and Jerry O’Connell. It dropped about 25,000 viewers but still had slightly more viewers than WWHL with Jemele Hill and Kevin Dobson. That said, Andy has a permanent job on WWHL it seems and this show doesn’t have any special treatment.
So what I am saying is enjoy this season because we probably won’t get another.Although, I did see ads for this show on another network so they seem to be throwing some advertising money at it.
A Simple Break-In Goes Wrong In Many Ways
I am watching now and not up to trying to recap in detail as most of you are not watching and I still haven’t heard all the names yet.
For me the big draw to this show is that the “judges” are actual CIA, FBI, White House security type people. I am amazed they have such qualified judges.

This week they had a team challenge and there are only a handful of people who are even kind of decent on these missions. It was interesting how quickly the “alliances” are falling apart and how quickly they are turning on each other.
Nooooo! Wrong Elimination, AGAIN!
Once again THEY SENT THE WRONG PERSON HOME. I thought for sure she was going all the way to the end.
I think Christine will end up winning the whole thing. Not surprisingly, the girls are better spies than the boys.
Next week the focus is on maintaining concentration under durress. Poor George, he seems to be getting the dufus edit. He must have pissed off someone in production because he is getting a lot of screen time for all of the wrong reasons. Though he probably did the best at the challenge this week. He did get some props from the judges for that. Also next week they have to bungee off the side of a building and everyone may not agree to do it.
I’m really liking it too!! The first episode wasn’t great but it’s totally redeemed itself. They definitely eliminated the wrong person again this week though. That girl was ruthless! In other news, I’ve decided I really need a lock picking kit, for nothing other than to play with at home!
So agree with the lock picking kit for home. Lock picking was actually the first thing I looked up on the internet way back in the early nineties. Don’t know why I chose that but I did and it came up with pictures and everything! I was so in love with the internet after that.
I’m liking this show except for the guy that’s always chewing gum, not sure what his name is but I’d rip that shit right out of his mouth if I was stuck in a van with him. I also like the guy that was in the military and keeps telling everyone he was in the military, it’s fun to watch him mess up. I’m betting a female wins, we are just naturally nosier ?
Sorry, haven’t seen it. My family includes both dead & alive cloak & dagger players, so having been around the real thing, I fear a game didn’t spark my interest. That said, I am a true fan of well-crafted spy fiction. My most recent read was the Red Sparrow Trilogy, which I devoured. I ran it by a family member with CIA cred & was told the books were mostly accurate about Russian operatives.
Great tip MizGrandma! I’m always looking for my next best read. I don’t know if you’ve heard but apparently the death of the Dewey decimal system is imminent? I hope this isn’t true. I can live without a phone book but a card catalog, even if it’s on a computer screen? The thought of the loss breaks a part of my heart.
I’m planning on watching this at some point but I’m behind on tv. I may be able to watch on demand while grandson sleeps? I’ve been working a lot but I’m going to babysit my one grandchild over Valentine’s weekend in Tuscon (Yay! Gem show weekend!) Plus, they have a Mini Cooper store there (not one up here in the WWWest) and I’ve recently re-embraced(*sp?) my love of driving with my supercharged mini.
This was only the second episode of…. I haven’t googled it but I’d guess 8. It’s not the best thing on TV but it is a fun watch. It has sort of a Big Brother element to it in that someone is eliminated every week and they throw each other under the bus during the judges opinion on how each person performed the task. It doesn’t take a lot of mental focus to watch. It’s just fun for people who like competition shows.
Kipper, a book you might enjoy is “The Spy Wore Red” by Aline, Countess of Romanones. It is the first in a series of 4 autobiographies by a real life WWII American spy who went to Spain & married a Count. A splendid TV spy series is “The Americans,” about a Russian couple sleeper agents during the Cold War. It’s a wowser that at times will have you rooting for the Russians.
Sorry about the Dewey system, though I haven’t used it in decades. I do have fond memories of exploring with it during my days as a student library assistant back in ought ’56. I did rely heavily on reference librarians during my years in academia, & though they aren’t as geared toward the hard sciences, those in public libraries are also useful & even available via phone. I once used the phone to seek the assistance of one in determining a species of butterfly that might be found during a particular month in a particular California coastal area, & she was delighted to help & quickly found exactly what I needed. Today I mostly rely on Amazon, which can be very efficient & detailed. A few years ago I wanted to find a mystery that I had critiqued back in the 1980’s in manuscript form. In fact, I had only read Chapter One, but it was so good, I figured it had long since been published. I could not remember the author’s name, & all I could recall was the detective’s last name. Amazon not only found the book, but the author had gone on to write several more in a series with the same detective, so I delightedly read them all, taking great pleasure in the success of someone I had met early in her writing career.
TT- I like this show also. With every episode I ask myself what would Callen, Sam, Kensi or Deeks from NCIS L.A do? I found the challenges are similar to situations on NCIS when they go undercover.
OMG I had never heard of this show! I’ve taken a break (except for news) from TV since November. I read your recaps, blinds and blogs to stay current without have to suffer watching. Hopefully this will be in on-demand so I can catch up. Thank you for talking about it! You always come through lol
I have these DVRd for this weekend. I follow the 1 contestant Christina, the one with the dreadlocks, on youtube. She seems like such a smart cookie!
This show is really fun! I only noticed it because you mentioned it though. I think George is an actual doofus though…it’s not just the editing.
I love that some of you are watching. It was hysterical that George’s group didn’t even consider the ladder. Although, I might have seen that as a trap and they didn’t really need it.
Rooting for Christina! She has an interesting YouTube channel ( many stories about her jail experience)!
She’s really doing well so far.
I’m definitely checking this out TT. It looks interesting and different from all the other nonsense on Bravo. TT any thoughts and information on Linnethia hiring Lisa Bloom?
I reached out to my source who I AM SURE KNOWS…. and so far crickets. I need to tread sorta lightly there for a bit. But I’m trying…
