Meet The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City!

February 2, 2020 by tamaratattles 52 Comments

When Andy Cohen first announced that the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City was coming to Bravo, I literally thought it was a joke. I received a few emails from y’all alerting me and I thought to myself, “These people will believe anything.” Then, I went to the NBCu site to just see if there was an official press release. And there was. I still thought is was a really dumb choice for a new franchise.

I’ve changed my mind.

The more I hear about this franchise, the more excited I am to check it out. First seasons are usually the best seasons. Except for Dallas. I tapped out of Dallas after just a couple episodes of season one because of Brandi’s fascination with poop.

The three ladies at the top of this post, seem to be the center of the show. Think the Mormon version of the three Amigas. Only they seem to actually do things. Like snowmobiling and skiing and traveling.  I already get the three of them  mixed up!

"<yoastmark

Lisa Barlow

Lisa Barlow is married to John Barlow. they have two sons Jack,15 and Henry,7. They are Mormons who own part of a tequila distillery in Jalisco, Mexico . Not sure how that works. I didn’t think Mormons could even have Starbucks. Lisa has sort of “tres amigas” thing with Jen Shah and Meredith Marks. The couple also owns a restaurant called Silver that is in the fashionable Main Street area of Park City. The family lives in Draper which is almost an hour outside of Park City. However, they are currently building a second home in Park City.

RHOSLC Meredith Marks

Meredith Marks

Meredith is very close with Lisa Barlow and Jen Shaw. She is a jewelry designer who has sold her pieces to many celebrity clients. From her website:

Meredith is a Chicago native immersed in fashion from a young age. She studied fine arts as an undergraduate, worked as a model, and then attended graduate school at Northwestern University, earning two diplomas: her law degree and an MM from the Kellogg Business School. While working in real estate development and owning a health club, Meredith also became a wife and a mother and later found her niche in jewelry design. Having launched her business during the 2009 recession, she was fortunate to be able to draw on her business acumen to overcome these challenges. After studying at the GIA, Meredith began to create her designs.

Meredith appears to spend some of her time living in Chicago. Her husband Seth lives there permanently. Not sure if they are divorced. She does have a new storefront Jewelry store on Main Street in Park City it seems. She and Seth have three kids who appear to be around college age.

Jen Shah

Rounding out this little threesome is Jen Shah. Jen owns a marketing agency called The Shah Squad. She is from Utah and her husband Sharrieff  played for the University of Utah where he is now a coach. Their eldest son Sharrieff Jr., followed also played football at the University of Utah. Junior is now in graduate school. Jen and Sharrieff also has a younger son Omar.

Click Here For RHOSLC Filming Tea!

Jen’s family is very into football but Jen also enjoys all of the outdoor winter sports Utah has to offer from snowmobiling to skiing she’s quite athletic herself. Her social media is a little spicy so I expect her to have a very outgoing personality that make shake things up from time to time.

Sara McArthur-Pierce

Sara is a life coach (le sigh) and owns Sara McArthur Design. She is a newlywed. She married Kaleb Pierce last year. She says she is a mother of six but it seems like she might be counting pets. I only see her with on third grade boy in her IG and that may be Kaleb’s son from another relationship.

I haven’t heard much about her. I’m not sure how she fits in here.

Whitney Rose

What is up with the Utah people and their skin creams and facial procedures? Whitney has an online skincare business with lotions and potions for men and women. She’s been married to her husband Jason for 10 years and so of course they are renewing their vows on the very first season. KISS OF DEATH FOR REALITY SHOW MARRIAGES. They have five kids, four boys and one girl ranging in age from 27 to 6. It seems like they have a 9 year old girl and a six year old boy together and the three oldest boys are from Jason’s previous marriage?

Click Here For RHOSLC Filming Tea!

Jason Rose is the Chief Sales Officer of a MLM company currently under federal investigation for a pyramid scheme. It alleges that “LifeVantage must operate as a pyramid scheme to turn a profit because its products—some of which are falsely advertised as remedies for various diseases—are snake oil and have no real medicinal or nutritional value.” The complaint further states that “[s]elling products alone was not profitable for LifeVantage, but selling false dreams of wealth and financial independence turned things around for the company.”

Jason Rose, Whitney Rose, Son and Daughter in law?

On Becoming God In Salt Lake City?

The 71-page complaint is chock full of alleged deception on the part of defendants. But its main allegation is that defendants are perpetuating a pyramid scheme. Specifically, the complaint claims:

LifeVantage is nothing more than a pyramid scheme dressed up as a multi-level marketer (an “MLM”) of dietary supplements. LifeVantage induces people to become Distributors with sales pitches promising wealth and business independence, and its marketing and compensation system encourages its Distributors to recruit others into the system with the same promises of wealth and business independence. Distributors pay money to participate in the business opportunity, which funds LifeVantage’s payments and “bonuses” to other Distributors. Despite LifeVantage’s claims of retail sales, little money comes in to the system from actual retail users of LifeVantage products disconnected from the business opportunity. The majority of its retail sales are monthly sales to its Distributors purchasing product in order to participate in the compensation system and remain eligible to receive bonuses. Distributors really can only make money by bringing in new Distributors – a classic pyramid scheme.

Well now, this family must have loved Showtime’s series, On Becoming A God In Central Florida even more than I did! Between the lawsuit and the curse of the vow renewal, I don’t see these two being married for season two.

Angie Harrington

Angie writes a fashion blog with affiliate sites. This is a good gig for her because she has a seven month old son named Hart. She reminds me a lot of Meg King. Her husband Chris is CEO of XANT. I have no idea what XANT is despite several minutes on his website. It looks like a company he started about a year ago that has something to do with helping companies increase their sales revenue. Or something.

Click Here For RHOSLC Filming Tea!

Angie was previously married to a former BYU quarterback, Bret Engemann. They have two sons together, fourteen year old Rome and twelve year old Cole. Just like Jen Barlow, this family does not live in Salt Lake City either. They live 45 miles away in Provo.

Heather Gay and daughter

Heather Gay

Oh look! Heather is a podcaster. She is a proponent for women’s equality. She has a teenaged daughter. Also  she is a co-owner of Beauty Lab and Laser. The company does lip injections and vampire facials and other laser enhancements. All of her social media accounts are private and I was not able to find out much. I think she might be a friend of the show via Whitney Rose rather than a full-timer.

Are You excited for the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City?

Wait, there’s a pyramid scheme here? OMFG. I know Utah’s a hot bed for MLM’s (it’s complicated, and let’s just say some snake oil salesmen find the LDS Church very easy to exploit), but they’re actually featuring one of them on this show??!!

I don’t know whether this makes me want to watch RHOSLC more or less. I must admit I’m fascinated, but I’m afraid the Roses are using Bravo to rope more suckers into their pyramid scheme.

These faces are really frightening! Enough with the plastic surgery I agree with the comments this looks about as interesting as family home evening! Figures they have Mormons with pyramid schemes typical and hopefully it will show the hypocrisy of the religion owning a stake in an alcohol company hopefully this show is gone soon!!

I was a bit shocked when the news of this franchise was announced. I really could not picture it interesting, but your post has me intrigued. I will tune in to check it out. These ladies have impressive resumes. TT, you brought up Dallas. It is one franchise that I have struggled to hold interest in. I was actually more drawn to Miami than I’ve ever been to Dallas, and Miami didn’t last. It (Miami) showcased more fabulous lifestyles, kind of like RHOBH. I know I’m probably in the minority, I like RHOBH, especially since LVP is gone (and I was a fan of hers initially). I love Kyle. She has it all… the handsome charming hubby, the beautiful girls who she encourages to have legit careers (unlike Kim’s Brielle), beautiful homes (love both the permanent residence & Palm Springs), she works, she has a heart. She’s just the total package to me.

I worked on my tomato plot a tiny bit today. I had my lawn kid put down bags of dirt a couple months ago and it’s already full of weeds. The dirt was turned and the soil was soft so I got most of it out today. Mint is coming back in places which is good. Hopefully my dirt will be okay this year. My flower bulbs are coming up across the driveway. Now that the psycho neighbor is dead. I am starting to think he was poisoning every year and now the bulbs might bloom for the first time since I planted them years ago.

Best of all, your crazy neighbor is gone. And some rain and tornadoes, gotta have weather. I’m not counting on a bird to poop out a miracle tomato plant this year. When I half ass it I get better tomatoes.

I have been messing with my tomato plot already. Yesterday the home depot garden shop was on my circuit of things to do while out for my six hours of productivity. I still have all the dirt and fertilizer in my car, because I was exhausted and needed to get in the house to recap, but things are looking good for me getting things in the ground this season. I’ve not done anything the past couple of years.

None of the veggies are in yet because it is way too early, but I am preparing my dirt with all manor of compost and such and letting it mellow between now and planting time.

I will give this a try because I had a group of photojournalist friends (both Mormon and not) in SLC and they changed the way I thought of the city. If the first few episodes suck, I will just read recaps. I am dropping RHOA completely unless they fire NeNe. I don’t miss it at all. I’m down to BH and OC and if those don’t get any better then I will drop them too. Netflix and Prime keep adding more good stuff. I think Tim Gunn and Heidi’s show starts in March. Next In Fashion (Netflix) is my new love. I hope it gets more seasons.

I’m fairly certain from a couple of names that there’s a little diversity in this group. Also, I’m a little hopeful in that since there are Mormons in this group, there will be a little less of the sloppy drunken behavior that has become the norm on RHOC, RHONJ, and RHOD. Actually, seems like they all have some pretty drunken behavior! Let’s hope this one is different…

It’s a beautiful part of the country and I think the show would do well to treat the scenery like its own character. For instance, Breaking Bad featured a lot of the action in the desert. It contributed to the dangerous, dark, lonely vibe of the show. The housewives franchise is so played out, I really think they should try to take it in a different direction than just women screaming over dinner. I’m currently watching no housewives shows — I don’t think I’m going to resume NY or BH – so it’s doubtful that I’ll start this one.

I am hopeful that this show is interesting and will definitely give it a try. I have been dropping HW and other Bravo shows this year — truly unlikable people, many of whom act like trash. We shall see with this one.

I found it interesting that Utah is the home of many MLMs. I know someone who moved from TX to Utah and is deeply involved in one. She appears to have consumed the kool aid big time.

Here in TX it’s huge too. I seriously think it’s because of the blind trust so many people put in those who call themselves religious. They’re an easy target because all you have to do is show up on Sunday and throw a few bucks around and everyone thinks you’re instantly trustable.

I am sorry but I don’t plan to watch RH of Utah. I’ve been to Utah and other than Park City or at Sundance film fest time, I find it to be the most boring state in the union. The descriptions posted of MLM ladies don’t intrigue me either. The formula of these Housewives shows is to get someone drunk, especially when away from their families, and then see the fireworks go off. I don’t see how they can do that with ladies who don’t drink, or where will the Housewives even get crazy at? Will Bravo fly Mormons into Vegas casinos? I don’t know but I think I’d rather watch Texarkanas, those Housewives from San Antonio than this show. I did see Lala Kent and Katie Maloney Schwartz fly in to give their blessings to these ladies, if those 2 are their mentors.

Let me preface this by saying that I was raised Mormon but no longer am, so my opinions are based on my experience with the religion and the people here in Salt Lake. MLMs are big here because in Mormon culture women are generally expected to stay home and take care of the families, working isn’t exactly frowned upon but there’s a definite emphasis on being the caretakers of the home. So to bring in extra income or to fight boredom many Mormon women start getting involved in MLMs. I’ve been invited to more parties and online sales than I can calculate, and I’m a Math major ;-). The pressure to then turn around and host a party of your own is intense and then they start the pitches on becoming an agent. It can actually get pretty scary, but I will say that the ones for sexual items are hysterical, watching women who are raised not to talk about sex, think about sex, or engage in sex before marriage then try to host a party full of sex toys is always a good time. I’ll watch the show just to see how they represent and to see what places they showcase but I’m off all of the other Bravo shows and only read the recaps here.

I’m going to continue with NY, it’s been my favorite now for a while and BH. I definitely see myself at least enjoying a season with new ladies in a pretty unique setting although the duck lips appear to be universal!

Most of what I wrote about here I found from their social media accounts. And a tiny bit of information that may not be completely accurate. I think it is, but some of the things I told were hard to verify. I remember the name Mary Crosby. But didn’t hear anything about her at all. That doesn’t mean she is not filming or the star of the show…. I just don’t know. Apparently, the Salt Lake City crowd isn’t very gossipy, or they just haven’t found me yet. 🙂

I doubt any of those women are Mormon based on the photos. Mormon women don’t wear such revealing clothes. Also, only about 20% of Salt Lake City proper, as opposed to the suburbs, is Mormon. Also, if the rumors are true that these women are actually based in Park City, the percentage of Mormons there is more like 10%.
