It’s been a while since I’ve done a MAFS recap and we are only up to the couples first night together. It’s going to be a loooooong season. Also, I have been completely spoiled on the entire season. Someone close to the show sent me everything. The email had a disclaimer before the spoilers saying “don’t read if you don’t want to know.” That was very considerate. I made it thirteen entire hours before I caved. I won’t give anything away though, don’t worry. After meeting with the in-laws, all the couples head to Panama for their honeymoon. I am excited about this as this is one of the countries on my short list for relocation. They actually use the US dollar as currency!
Meka & Michael
I like this couple. Michael seems thrilled with Meka. He was embarrassed to help get her out of her wedding gown. Meka seems to be happy as well. She does very well with his family. Michael admits to Meka’s family that he has cheated. He says it was emotional cheating. I think he did cheat. Michael asked Meka what his family said. He seems worried about it.

When all the couples arrive at the honeymoon resort, the other couples all comment on how Meka and Michael don’t seem to be getting along at all. In fact, it seems like these two may already be fighting. That’s not a good sign. Have we ever had a couple that was not happy arriving to the honeymoon destination?
Oh wow. Meka does an interview from the hotel room right away. Michael told Meka that she has to have sex with him on the honeymoon or he is calling the whole thing off. WOW. You picked the wrong one Michael. Meka don’t play that. Meka says that Michael is a whole different person when the cameras aren’t around. Girl, you need to just go book your own room, fly back with the group and then run like the wind away from this one. Meka says she was worried she was matched with the TV version of Michael and married the real Michael. Michael is denying he gave Meka an ultimatum. Michael decides to get his own room for the night.
Jessica & Austen
Jessica and Austen are both weird. Austen was uncomfortable meeting Jessica’s twin and her husband. Austen’s mom grills the woman who stole her baby boy. I am surprised she did not show up at the hotel to sleep in between these two.

This is the couple I thought least likely to work out. Oddly, they may be the best matched of the five couples this season. HOLY SHIT! There is a GIANT LIZARD in their hotel room in Panama! I am having flashback to my lizard trauma! These two can’t stop giggling. I would be checking out.
Mindy & Zach
Zach is hot, but…his gentleman routine seems phony to me. We shall see how long this lasts. Mindy’s friends grill Zach and immediately suggest that he is on the show to advance his modeling and fitness career. Her friends also seem to think he is not really genuine.

Zach’s gentleman routine stopped before they even have one night in Panama. So That would be day two of the marriage. I thought it would last about a week. Mindy is comparing herself to the other couples and coming up a bit short. Well, except for Meka and Michael who are basically ready to divorce. Ooops! I spoke too soon. Mindy is now wandering the halls of the hotel in her pajamas because she doesn’t want to be in a room with Zach. Apparently, he told her off camera that he was not attracted to her and asked her what she wanted him to do about that.
Katie & Derek
Katie seems a bit whorish. Twenty-four hours ago she wasn’t sure if she wanted to go back with her ex. Then, on her first night with her husband, all she talks about is the bowl of condoms provided by the show. Derek took Katie’s dad aside and asked him for her hand in marriage. I think Derek is a player.

These two are having a lot of fun. They are excited about their fancy hotel room. Literally, all Katie talks about is sex. Someone needs to tell Derek that Panama is not an island.
Taylor & Brandon
First of all, Taylor needs to never wear makeup ever again in her life. She is stunningly beautiful first thing in the morning. Like, breathtaking. That should be illegal. Why does Taylor need this show. She may not be here for the right reasons. Brandon’s family is thrilled with Taylor. Taylor’s family is a bit more concerned. Brandon isn’t holding up well under interrogation.

Taylor and Brandon seem like a good match. They are a really cute couple. Perhaps too cute. The previews for next week show problems for these two also. This season is a total shit show. I am starting to think that is what production wanted for this season.
You’re so right – Taylor is naturally stunningly beautiful…Brandon kind of has a Prince talk vibe going on…..
Omg, I caught myself reading the recap, just now home, I was on schedule last time I was home now 2 episodes behind?! I hate that you already have been spoiled TT!!! I’m suprised it only took you 13 hours to cave! If I don’t watch tonight in my half happy inebriated situation I’ll read the remainder of your recap now.
I’ll check back in soon.
I’m not feeling the 5 couple thing. It’s too many. It really waters down the show. Anyhow, I read only 2 of the couples were applicants and the other 3 were recruits.
I think they’re using more couples because if some flake out immediately they still have some to follow for the show.
5 is ALOT. They all repeat their worries, concerns, Hope’s and dreams over and over.
I already hate Zach and Michael! No fair ! 2 days in and they’re already such assholes? No effort whatsoever!
OMG, the heavenly beds the Westins have are truly heavenly! I’m looking forward to seeing a bit of Panama, I’ve never been. I see a zipline drama too, again lol.
From the beginning, I noticed that Michael’s mannerisms and facial expressions were very familiar. It took me a couple of episodes to realize that he’s like watching an African-American Nicolas Cage! Seriously! Go back and watch him with that in mind- you won’t be able to un-see it!
Yeah, 5 is too many.
My brother’s GF was recruited for another city. They still pressured her after she told them she was in a relationship and that her job wouldn’t allow it.
I agree, 4 couples was the max for me. It feels like this show is moving away from its mission and is more concerned about ratings (i.e: drama) than compatibility.
I’m not forecasting much success for most of the couples this season. I don’t think Brandon should have been cast at all. Once it was revealed he has anxiety issues I thought oh oh. Who would put a person who already has anxiety issues into this pressure cooker of a situation? I had already been wondering about the matchmaking process as overall it doesn’t seem to work very well. I wonder if I just selected random single people and put them together with no “process” would my results be any worse than theirs?
Based on my personal feelings about you after just a couple of posts, I think you would do A LOT better than the “experts.”
Thanks! Although the bar is set pretty low!
Yes! When Austin called Panama a tropical island, I was surprised Katie managed to keep a straight face. She did say he had never been out of the country before though, and apparently has never looked at a world map either. Maybe he got mixed up with the Bahamas.
But he must have heard of the Panama Canal, right? Why would an island need a canal. ?
Lol! Well, it might be a really BIG island!
I don’t see Mindy and Zach working at all. She’s 34 but looks much older, especially when she smiles. Between the very prominent veneers and the weird wrinkles around her nose she just looks odd and I’m betting Zach and his high maintenance self have not missed these things.
I feel like the experts can’t tell who is there for real and who isn’t. Shouldn’t they be able to see through the BS? I mean seriously how did Zach get through unnoticed as the wannabe he is? I’d love to see their interview process.
Zach is a recruit a is Derek. They just go on Instagram and pick people and offer them the gig. I’ll have more on this at the end of the season. Most of these people did not sign up but were approached by production.
Wow. I guess that makes for a better social experiment. I usually miss a lot from watching because I am busy filling my wine glass. I look forward to all your recaps.
That makes sense, not only for Zach but for a couple others. They always make it look like 100s upon 100s apply but I guess not.
Clearly they can’t read an audience because I would rather see everyday people matched up than fluffy haired guys matched up with women who think they are hotter than they are. It’s like Bachelor/ette Junior.
I’d so rather see serious everyday people looking for their match by EXPERTS! I watched the MAFS couch version with couples from previous seasons who are happily married watching episodes and commenting. Only that gives me a little hope…I’m really hoping there are a few seriously intended good matches this season.
I can’t imagine the pressure with cameras, strangers, actually having a hope and dream of a “real” match some of these people go into this experiment with. I don’t think it’s nice to fool anyone in this process for ratings. I imagine that could happen all on its own and has.
Fingers crossed love foils production, I know I’m already wrong hoping for that! There’s enough info here to tell me production has interfered and everyone but me completely accepts that. Do they want a season a fails? Why, it just make the experts look bad, IDGI? Dr. Pepper? Speak up woman!
It’s sad that this season, wasted their efforts to match couples. Some scenes they were to silly and stupid, I changed channel anyway this season is a total flop. What a waste of money, I’m sure the professional did there job matching but each person just were there self.
Taylor, wow that girl is drop dead gorgeous. Can we get her an annulment and make her the next Bachelorette?
She has to be a recruit, there is no way she was looking for an arranged marriage, she is looking for a modeling contract or an acting career. Guys must be beating down her door.
That makes sense!
Now I’m rewatching with couples from previous seasons as they watch and comment, so cute seeing them interact, I’ve forgotten all their names though! The couple with the barn door drinking wine are great together, well honestly they all seem quite happy and settled into their marriages.
Brandon needs to live in his Truth and stop with the rehearsed lines he’s always feeding. He’s an undercover asshole, who clearly prefers men but needed the check.
Taylor is beautiful and will be fine either way.
Zach Seacrest is clearly looking for his Hollywood come up and is trying to win best actor at the oscars with his performance.
Mindy seems like she was genuinely looking for a great match but got paired with an opportunist.
Meka I’m sorry you got paired with that downlow and cocky ass man who ain’t worth a damn. God got you sis!
I totally think Katie and Derek got it on but didn’t wanna admit it ?
I don’t know if you can post spoilers but I know one of the couple already went for an annulment before the show even ended and 2 others are rumored to have split as well.
TT I’m down to know the spoilers please. I’ll still watch the show but t will know the bullshit upfront. Please consider.
Yes, please! I don’t need suspense in order to enjoy the drama.
I’m sorry you got spoiled, TT, lol! I was waiting for your recap. I’m tempted spoil it as well.
These 2 hour episodes are brutal and the 5 couple model is just way too much. I had to suffer through 10 family interviews. Now that I think about it, I need to re-evaluate my life, lol.
Meka and Mike – First off, I think 25 is too young for this process. She seems mature but how much experience have you really had at 25? Before this Mike revelation, he admitted that he shuts down instead of communicating. I’d like to hear more about the context in which he made the sex statement. Meka was interrogating him so he may have been intimidated. She even told him to answer yes or no. There’s always a rotten apple – hi Mike.
Poor Mindy & Zach. Mindy needed a shower. She looked greasy on camera. Not a good move if you’re wondering if your new husband is attracted to you. Start by washing your tail. For the record, I don’t think he is. I think he’s on the show for exposure. Another rotten apple – hi Zach.
The rest, meh who knows.
Two hour episodes, 5 couples – way too much.
Read the spoilers too but it’s just interesting to see how they get there. After reading many download references from others, I’ll be looking more for this.
I’m still wondering why they put Zack and Mindy together. Shes a beautiful woman but this guy to me seems to only date arm candy gym rats or a SM influencer that can gain them both followers. I guess he figured with his age this would be a good idea, but poor mindy, not fair! The shower thing was gross though. You’re on a plane for hours, that’s the first thing I want to do no matter how dog tired I am. And that jacket was beyond hideous girl please hit up Pintrest and get some style points.
Meka and Michael, to out him on camera like that so quickly, yikes. From her dress not fitting to this, seems like shes looking for an out anyway she can. Sex is a big deal, I don’t understand why you would sign up to be married and not think that you’d have to sleep with your spouse. I dunno I feel like they went through 6 months of dating in 2 days. You know when you decided, ok I can deal with their quirks and compromise, but she’s too young. That’s prime age to be out having fun, but then again she did say 27 was approaching old age to be a parent!
The other couples ehhh. Derek and Katie are cute but he seems immature like Austin. No comment on Taylor.
She doesn’t have to sleep with anyone “married” or not. Especially some POS who is demanding sex tied to threats the first day they meet. WTF?
I totally agree! Then he walked out after saying yes/no?! I completely believe Meka. Why the “for the cameras look” and then be sooo different off camera. Not cool.
I really liked Meka and Michael, and was very disappointed with his off-camera behaviour, but the way she confronted him would make it very hard to get past it (if that’s even possible).
Taylor has too much going for her to be on this show, and Brandon has a major gay vibe.
Derek and Katie are both way too young for this.
Jessica and Austin seem pretty genuine. I am rooting for them.
Zach is a faker and Mindy is way too needy to be in a healthy relationship.
This show has no shame in putting people’s hearts on the line for doomed relationships. I’m not sure how they sleep at night.
I watched the first three episodes and had to stop. Aside from the recruits, I am certain that the experts have little to no involvement in the computer-generated matches. It’s like eHarmony without deal-breakers but is more stupider. I’m done with this series.
So I decided to start with this episode to skip all the “why I chose to get MAFS”.
It’s a bit weird, they seem like a group of 18-21 yr olds who ran off and did something really bad, lol.
Just a different vibe of adults. Guess it will maybe be a surprise, and better than usual, and less predictable.
And that guy who looks and talks exactly like Kim Kardashian ‘s bff, weirds me out a little bit.
(Austin)
