Happy New Year! (Open Forum)

December 31, 2019 by tamaratattles 100 Comments

I was sitting here thinking that I would not be able to stay awake for NYE tonight. I really just want to go to bed. HOW STUPID AM I? I totally forgot about the fireworks. Banjo is going to be barking and shitting himself for the next six hours. And it has already started. I CAN’T DO THIS TONIGHT. How did I forget what a nightmare this night is for people with dogs?

And um, so what are y’all doing? And Happy New Year and all that. I will be watching the Anderson Cooper version missing Kathy Gifford and ignoring Andy Cohen. And probably having a heart attack.

I’m staying in and enjoying what’s left of my buzz. I’ve seen too many episodes of LivePD to even consider being out tonight. Fireworks will start soon but generally don’t bother Boo (short for Booyah!); just keep me awake. I’ll flip between shows some but likely fade before midnight.

KK- I can watch Live PD all night as long as I get an eyeful of Sean Sticks Larkin, Danny Brown and Garo Brown from the South Carolina police department.
Unfortunately Sticks is off the market.?He is dating Lana Del Rey. He is quite different from her exes including Marilyn Mansin, Axl Rose and G-Eazy. Yikes!

I’m just staying in, eating sushi and watching Anderson on CNN. My Yorkie, who passed away 3 years ago, didn’t mind fireworks or thunder, so it was never an issue with her. I adopted my mini-Labradoodle last January 20 and she is freaked out by thunder and fireworks. It could be a rough night. Happy New Year Tamara, Banjo and everyone who contributes to this site.

Staying home. Our cats should start freaking out over fireworks which should have already started. Not sure what’s going on but it’s still quiet.
Has everyone heard that Jeff Charleston from Southern Charm New Orleans had a really bad wreck in NOLA? Happened Dec. 22nd and he was hurt very badly including broken pelvis. Sending healing thoughts his way.
Happy New Year, TT, Banjo, and everyone here at Tamara Tattles…especially all our fur babies who are probably going to have a terrible evening.

Horrible news. As I remember, he was not close to his mother/family…relationships fractured about finances? I hope he gets all the love and support he truly needs right now. He seems like such a sweet, kind, injured man (“injured” by his loved ones psychologically not this current physical trauma). I have a huge soft spot for Jeff, that’s all I’m gonna say because I don’t want to sound disrespectful but I do adore him, a lot!

Prayers and positive thoughts for him tonight.

I heard the same news about Jeff from Southern Charm. Apparently he has a new girlfriend that has been by his side in the hospital night and day. Best wishes to him on a speedy recovery. Also the blonde guest from the last episode of Below Deck, Molly, knows Whitney from Southern Charm and fans were wondering if they were dating. Both said they were just friends. Go figure.

Oh my god Tamara, I feel your pain! These red neck “Pineys” here in Southern NJ use any excuse to shoot off fireworks. They even did it on Thanksgiving! My poor, sweet, little Ely-B is 11 years old and absolutely terrified of them. She’s been crying and shivering in my arms for half an hour already even with her Thundershirt on. Her little brother Perry tolerates them better thank goodness, because they don’t make Thundershirts small enough to fit his tiny 5 pound body. Kuro, my 20 pound cat seems to just ignore them. The sad thing is that it’s not even kids doing this, but drunken idiots in their 50’s and older! Give Banjo a smooch from me. Happy New Year! May 2020 be your best year yet! Happy New Year to all! ❤️

When I watched the last season finale of Southern Charm New Orleans and saw Jeff ride off on a motorcycle at the end of his segment I was not happy to see that. You could tell he wasn’t handling that bike with confidence and to just up and go on a road trip without years of experience riding one is a slippery slope. I just hate it when I see a man or woman take up riding a Harley or large other motorcycle late in life and think they are going to own the road.

He is my favorite person on Southern Charm New Orleans, well maybe tied with Barry, or Jon, or Tamica. I don’t want to see anything happen to Jeff Charleston or any of them and I am really sad to hear he was hurt.

I feel like I may have overdosed, Banjo. I usually give three 25 mg of benadryl. He is around 80 pounds. So I gave him 75 and now just added another half a half a tab. he’s getting very sleepy. Either this is the right dose to keep him calm or I’m killing my dog. Story of my life. Either this is going to end well or everybody dies.

I suspect the cat was fine? I found the love of a cat after a full life loving dogs, did I tell ya’ll my cat story? I won’t repeat it if I have but the end of the story is happy…love my cats!

My Igor wasn’t comforted by the thunder jacket, CBD finally did the trick. Long story but we tried EVERYTHING over the years attempting to relieve his fear and physical reactions! I blame a lot on his early childhood which was apparently pretty traumatic (he joined our family when he was “approximately” 2) the shelter apparently can’t share too much or just didn’t know but I was initially interested in his sister but she seemed a bit out of control angry and when I asked about her after meeting Igor they told me they would not allow adoption of the two together, they needed to be separated. I truly thought he’d get better with time and the luxuries he’s become accustomed too but he didn’t and has stayed in need of many reassurances yet improved in many others (not the hair shedding lol, I thought a good brushing would fix that, um NO, it’s constant). I forgive him his fears and hair because he makes me smile daily and he’s THE BEST hugger!

Gun shots on NYE aren’t isolated to ATL and NJ, plus there are fireworks everywhere on NYE. I hope everyone of our fur babies are now fully recovered, along with their families.

So much for not repeating the kitty story but then I go on and on (and could could go on more) about my Igor, thanks for the room TT.

More importantly, I splurged on a bottle of Veuve Clicquot which I’m splitting with my daughter. I think you should go passive aggressive with your signs and post them in Nepali. Like a sign that says यो लान चिन्ह छुनुहोस्, वर्म्बाय।, which basically translates as “don’t smack this sign, wormboy”. xoxoxo

I see clips of Pretty in Pink and I wonder why I was lusting after Andrew McCarthy at the time when now I want to scream… GO FOR DUCKIE! (My orchestra partner and I had pictures of Andrew torn out of teen magazines in our music folder back in the day. When we pretty much had the music memorized or our parts were boring, we put his pictures out at stared at them. LOL!

If I had to pick a JH movie to watch, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Breakfast Club, or Some Kind of Wonderful (one that doesn’t get a lot of the attention). Watched 16 Candles recently (well parts) and there are some issues with that one that make it less enjoyable than it used to be.

Sitting among the chaos in the kitchen resting my back as I take a rest before tackling more of the mess surrounding me. The table is clear & the tablecloth & napkins are in the washing machine, but the floor is filled with debris of gawd-knows-what that has accumulated through this never-ending total renovation. We’ve gone through would-be contractors as fast as money, so most of the actual work so far has been done by us & our half-time family retainer handyman who cut off one thumb & an index finger last spring working on Fly Boy’s man cave. (I’ve long had my own power tools, & my all-time favorite Christmas gift from the late great Rocket Man was a floor model drill press.) I ordered gorgeous flat-pack cabinets identical to those I put in my last house & we’ve installed all the ones for two walls so far. The adjacent guest room has been converted to a dining room, so the eating area will be HUGE kitchen if we all live so long. So that’s how we are spending half our New Year’s Eve. The other half I’m sneaking some of my rest time onto Ancestry.com (my holiday gift to myself), as my 2020 resolution is to try to create as much of my family tree/heritage for my family as possible. A couple months ago I discovered a stranger was trying to reach my family with my Swedish grandmother’s daybook, in which she had recorded all of the family important events, births, deaths, measles, etc, since the early 1900’s. She had bought it on eBay for a couple bucks. Now I have it & am using it to help create our tree. Also ordered a DNA test. Just in the past week I’ve located 4 cousins I didn’t know existed. We all share the same great-grandparents, & some of us have some memories of the same people. In spite of having taught genetics as part of some of my anthro classes, my own genealogy never interested me. I was more fascinated by the mysteries of hominid evolution. However, I’ve become intrigued with tracking the remains of my living family, as I’m the last in my direct line to bear my family name. So that’s how I’m spending some of the rest of my holiday, & a good part of my New Year. Now I’m raising my can of cranberry-lime seltzer to you all in the hopes that you all enjoy solving some of the puzzles in your own lives in 2020–SALUD!

Hmm, I’m wondering if we could be related (fingers crossed! ?, I respect your POV always). We have known a lot of our family tree from Sweden and Norway. I know, have met and stay somewhat close to family in Sweden. Mom & Dad did the genetics testing which solidly confirmed their origins. I don’t feel the need to do the test because they already did it…

Your renovations sound like you’re making every dream come true! I want a she cave and I’m finally starting to see that my dream will come true. These things take time. Sorry to hear about your friend now missing digits, how awful. I have acquired tools since I was a kid separate from any man. If I need a tool for something, I buy it, use it, care for, keep it, replace or upgrade as needed. I sadly have learned to hide certain things because tools disappear or current partner states that was his…urgh!

Anywho, I hope you don’t spend too much time sweeping up tonight, enjoy your evening with Fly boy. Happy new year!

Kipper, it’s difficult to trace the Swedes, with the surnames changing with each generation. My great-grandfather, who I knew as a child, was Alfred Svenson, but his dad was a Nelson. One of my dear friends is a genealogist, & she found the ship’s manifest from his immigration via Germany in the 1880’s. When my eldest great-granddaughter went to Sweden last spring on a university study program everyone there tried to speak to her in Swedish because she is 5’11” & very blonde. A she cave sounds great! The first thing Fly Boy gave me when we got together was a studio, but I’ve never had time to set it up. Need a workshop for the big tools, which I still haven’t moved. L-O-V-E my Hegner scrollsaw, which Rocketman never failed to call “that-saw-you-won’t-tell-me-how-much-it-cost.” Happy New Year to all the women with power (tools)!

So, went to my folks December 23rd, and ended up staying through the 30th. Yeah, I only live about 20 minutes away, but weather was shitty and they had the house decorated. Plus I was EXHAUSTED after Christmas (they host Christmas Eve, but unofficially I do a lot of it. This year, my mom was not feeling well that day, so I did most of it by myself (my dad vacuumed, but he also decided to clean off the backyard deck and balconies. You know, the ones that no one was going on and they really didn’t need it anyway?) Mom and I took advantage of her senior discount and my new Regal Unlimited and went to see Little Women (really well done. I also HIGHLY recommend Knives Out!!! Awesome movie!)

So, no good food in the house…. I braved both Costco and Safeway TODAY. I’m exhausted all over again. Good news though… COSTCO HAS THEIR OWN BOXED WINE NOW! I was going to do wine tonight and then Prosecco at midnight, but I’m missing my cat (whom I usually spend NYE with; he passed this September) so I broke into the tequila. Prosecco will save for a solo Valentines or first day of spring. Or if and when a new furbaby finds me.

So, all of you who have to worry about fireworks or worse, gunshots, scaring your furbabies… give them an extra bit of love from me. I was so fortunate – I live near a military base and on certain weather conditions you can hear the firing range at least 2 or 3 times a year. Couple that with loud weather events.. my cat barely blinked at fireworks or thunder.

Can’t remember if you were a Kevin fan on BB19? But Kevin the older gentleman with the big family was a huge BTS fan. I think he got to 4th. Of course Paul did him dirty. Loved his walks around the backyard with the cowboy guy.

Happy New Year TT & all you witty commenters???!! I just saw Shawnia Twain….is it just me or does she remind anyone of D’Andra Simmons from Dallas? I’m having a very quiet evening & trying to tie in a housewife reference-lol. Looking forward to 2020.

Haven’t read everyone’s comments, sorry if I repeat the obvious…

Brought a bottle of prosecco back to the nurse’s house to share with a fellow nurse, I work nights tomorrow but she works days so she passed on even an early evening toast so…I’m on my own with the bottle?…touched home by phone w/dh who was also already in his pjs, daughter at work (yay! First job, local coffee drive ups) and my parents who I put on speaker phone to share the evening with my roommate.

I’ve been binging “Poldark” on Prime for a few weeks now, it’s no “Outlander” but I’m pretty invested in the characters and the history, I’m currently feeling mildly addicted, giggle

I do need to try to stay awake for a while, it’s easier if I can sleep away a great portion of tomorrow to then stay awake for the 12 hours tomorrow night.

Happy New Year Tamara and Banjo! Happy New Year to everyone here too. We are all special snowflakes who landed here and now make a spectacular snowman following TT around!

    Xoxo,

Watching ID channel shows with the dogs! Got them raw knuckle and marrow bones in hopes of distracting them from the fireworks-so far, it’s working well. Went to St. Lucia for Christmas week so lots of murder to catch up on-plus ID is the only channel with new shit over the holidays! Indy and Ollie wish Banjo a Happy, Firework-Free New Year!

I am LOLing at drunk Anderson Cooper, who has apparently never had Jagermeister before. He asked Andy, “what is Jagermeister? How is it different from tequila?”. Than it took the shot and it took him a couple of minutes and a glass of water to be able to speak again. Lots of sputtering in the meantime.

Try a weighted blanket. I bet they will be on sale soon. I got a 10 lb. weighted blanket from my boss for Christmas. I laid it on top of my nervous dog, Oreo, and it calmed him down so much he slept, not moving for a couple hours. One of my co-workers commented today that her dog tunneled under her weighted blanket and slept like a baby.

TT, you may want to consider moving to Canookia. We have one organized firework here. It lasted 10 minutes. It started at 9:08. It’s all very civilized ? My darling canine doesn’t give two f’s about fireworks and came with us to watch. Happy New Year to all here, may 2020 bring some amazing perspective ?

Happy New Year 2020 to everyone. We just stayed home, ate snacky food, and watched really old stuff – I tried the Anderson C/Andy thing, but gave up rather quickly – boring and their poking fun at Ms. Walters was hideous – no thank you. Hope Banjo survived the night with all the fireworks – our cat freaked out most of the night too. Stupid neighbors illegally shooting off fireworks almost all night. New Year’s Eve was my daughter’s birthday, but they were home in Louisiana, packing for a trip to NC because my son-in-law’s grandmother passed and the funeral is Saturday. She lived a very long life, passed at age 95, and was a wonderful lady. I’m over people dying around the holidays – 2019 was rough. I hope everyone has a very happy and blessed 2020, especially our host, TT, whom I looking forward to living vicariously through all her upcoming travel adventures at some point.

Have didn’t get my Tequila so I had a glass of Sangria and turned everything off. Here’s to a Blessed Year to all my TT family!

I’m struggling to catch up on RHOA and I figured out what the problem is. It’s missing Dwight and Lawrence!!!!!! These friends are lame, bring a new Lawrence/Dwight. The best seasons all heavily featured them and the formula worked.

I spent the day getting ready for the dreaded double recap night. Then there was absolutely nothing on TV. So I stumbled across a new series on Showtime called Back To Life. It’s a British show of some sort. The main character is returning home to live with her parents after serving 18 years in prison. You begin to find out what is going on with each episode.

Has anyone watched this? It’s sadish and full of crazy British humor. It sucks you in as you try to figure out what happened 18 years ago…
