When I DVR two shows at once, my TV stays on one of the channels. So tonight when the DVR finished taping Shameless (I haven’t watched that yet) some new show was starting. A show was just starting and I thought it was one of those legal shows I haven’t gotten around to watch yet on the major networks. It was a show called The L Word: Generation Q. This was pretty obvious from the first scene which was pretty much lesbian porn. It said it was season one, episode one so I decided to give it a shot. As it turns out there is a previous season called simply the L Word that I feel like I should go back and watch and get caught up.
Jennifer Beals, Kate Moennig and Leisha Hailey were/are in both series. I wasn’t really feeling the show which is basically about a lot of lesbians and the occasional gay guy or two living their lives. Jennifer Beals is running for mayor and things take a very interesting turn in the first episode. I was trying to get through my emails while watching this. I realized that I was probably not going to fulfill my life’s goal of becoming a late in life Meredith Baxter Birney because the lesbian sex did nothing for me. But I set my DVR to try it’s best to record and I will check out the first season and try harder to increase my lesbian tendencies beyond my sensible shoes and men’s pajamas. So far The first episode of The L Word season one isn’t that great.

Work In Progress
BUT THEN, A new series on called Work In Progress came on. I HAVE FOUND MY LESBIAN. This is my new favorite show. I can’t tell you anything about it because you must watch it yourself. I will tell you that on the first episode, Julia Sweeney who used to play the sexually ambiguous Pat is on SNL playing herself.
The main character Abby wrote the show and I think she might have been reading this site, lol. It’s a dark comedy and in the very first scene Abby experiences something that I have kind of experienced. Once for sure and possibly twice. Though the time span of what occurred was much longer for me. THIS SHOW IS FUCKING HILARIOUS. It comes on Showtime right after The L Word at 11 pm. If I could stream the whole series right now I would stay up all night to do so.
Omg! I forgot they were doing a sorta Round 2 of The L Word. I looooooved the original!
Well THERE WERE FIVE SEASONS of The L Word from like 2004 to 2015 and I am trying to catch up. I have to have WIKI and WIKIPEDIA up to refer to becauses there are too damn many people on this show and they are always fucking around and I can’t remember who goes with who.
Also I think this show is produced by Canookians and there is less stupid shit between scenes and it takes a few more brain cells than US produced shows. It reminds me of that show about all the clones. American TV has made my brain super lazy. Thus the need for all of the onlines and recaps for crutches.
The random sex scenes every 7 seconds give me plenty of time to read who is screwing who. It’s like a mental workout. Which is embarrassing. I should quit drinking I clearly only have like three brain cells left.
There are actually 6 and the last season is a mess. I really loved the show back then and I am trying to love the new one because I love those old characters coming back but I think time will tell.
Episode 1 was exciting but they need to build the new characters.
Don’t spoil me Bro. I am on Season Four and I am SOFA KING PISSED that stupid ass Spectrum doesn’t have the final for season three where someone is supposed to get married and doesn’t.
Welcome to the site. I so need someone who watches shows that are NOT on fucking Bravo. 🙂
Everything stopped when The L Word came on. I loved that show! I forgot they were making a new one. Too bad I don’t have premium channels. But I’ll find a way to watch it.
I LOVED The L Word! I didn’t watch it when it originally aired, but my daughter and I watched it a few years later. To this day we bicker over our favorite cast members. She’s team Jenny all the way, while I despise that soulless sociopath and believe her to be Satan’s actual spawn! I love Shane, but my daughter thinks she’s just a player with no substance. Lol, we definitely got in too deep with this show! 😂
Carmen was my fave!
Le sigh.
OMG, I had to go back and read what I’d written to make sure I didn’t post a spoiler! 😖 Don’t worry TT, it won’t ruin the show!
I recorded both. Looking forward to watching them .
Good luck getting through the six seasons of The L Word! I thought the first 3 seasons were very good, a look at a very specific group of educated, white, upper-middle class women who were lesbians and lived in a very specific area of Los Angeles, but then Ilene Chaiken and the writers ran out of ideas and it became a soap opera. Don’t bother keeping track of all the women Shane beds (except for Carmen and Molly, who may show up in this iteration). Don’t bother keeping track of Bette and Tina’s relationship, it’s a never-ending seesaw. Don’t bother hoping that Jenny will go beyond her narcissistic limits. Don’t bother trying to understand what Alice is saying (though her scenes with Dana were amongst my favorites).
These characters never grow, never learn from their experiences. The series was criticized for not showing all the nuances of the lesbian world and for its whiteness; they tried to improve the latter in the last few years, but not very successfully. This new series is supposed to make up for all that. I think they may be able to do that if they have the right people in the writers room. In the meantime, we’re left wondering what happened to Kit Porter, Bette’s half-sister played by the great Pam Grier. The writers never seemed to know what to do with Kit (she’s straight, she’s older than the other characters), and the word is Pam Grier is too busy with Bless This Mess to return, so I have a bad feeling that she is no longer a part of the L Word world.
70 episodes is a lot. There are already way too many characters and I am just a few episodes into season one. It’s not a bad show. I’m sick and piled up on the couch so I am watching and napping through the next few rainy days.
Noooo! That makes me so sad!
Yes, that was my thought. Bette never supported Kit, it would be typical of her to get all high and mighty about Big Pharma after Kit self-destructs.
I’ve never watched the L Word so I can’t speak to that but Shameless…I loved the first few seasons but the last few I feel have just become utterly ridiculous. I still see parts because my husband still kind of likes it but I spend most of the time rolling my eyes at the far fetched story lines. I don’t know maybe it’s just me because people still seem to like it but, I get bothered when good characters become caricatures of themselves. Or at least that’s what I feel has happened.
Yes Fizz, I agree on Shameless. The show has run its course, they are now just filling up space with nonsensical bullshit!
So I am watching season two and one thing REALLY bothers me. Jenny never has a job, is always broke, gets fired from everything, and yet has all the time in the world to write and submit stories and collect rejection letters. Then she has money to get into a prestigious expensive writers workshop with a famous author and not work at all. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, she has the most fabulous wardrobe of all. She has a new coat or cape every scene, and yet can’t make rent.
Shane can’t scrap up rent either quits all her jobs and they all have money to go on cruises and go out five nights a week. Shane I can see getting her way paid.
It’s Jenny’s WARDROBE that makes no sense.
Also was the actress who plays Tina really pregnant in season two? Because I don’t see how they could fake those scenes.
I’m dying to watch, Work in Progress!! I’ve seen the promos for it and it looks hysterical. I love how she says Julia Sweeny’s character “Pat” on SNL ruined her life. Hilarious!!!
It’s my new favorite show!
I am in LOVE with Shane on The L word. Probably because she is the only actually lesbian on the show. This is GREAT NEWS for my Meredith Baxter Birney transition, right? 🙂
Oh and DON’T SPOIL ME BRO! I M ONLY ON SEASON FOUR ! I should be sleeping as I need to feed Lawn Boy tomorrow… I just need to live my life too.
This show must have done well in the ratings because they have lots of stars sprouting their lesbian wings on the show.,,It was better before Cybil Shepard and Marlee Maitlin pretended to be gay. Basially 90% of them are pretending to be gay. Other than Shane, is anyone really gay here? Were there no gay actresses available?
Most of the well known actors and actresses who came on the original show were either queer or allys to our community. One of the things I loved about the original. Leisha Hailey who plays Alice is in fact queer in real life, along with Katherine Moening who plays Shane. The actress who played Tina I believe is also part of our community. Either gay or bisexual I can not remember for the life of me. To watch the old show you’ve got to watch the blu ray for the music alone. The streaming services do not have the original soundtrack. Licensing issues or something. The music from The L Word is life.
I am up to season five. It’s so hard to get back to it ATM since it is the finale/reunion/etc of so many shows. The huge amount of sex scenes took a bit of getting used to at first, but now I don’t even notice them. The storylines are compelling. And my inner glimmer of lesbianism has the hots for SHANE in a very serious way. What is it about that woman? I know the storyline is that every woman wants her. But this old most straight lady who aspires to a Meredith Baxter Birney finish to her life… I mean. I love everything about “Shane”
Shane is desirable because you either want to be her or be the one to tame her. Wanting what is unobtainable. I remember when the show first aired every “soft butch” lesbian I saw at the clubs had her hair style lmao. It also helps that her character was designed to be the straight girl whisperer lol showing heterosexual women that yes sexuality and desire is fluid.
Nah, I don’t want any of those things.I don’t even like oral sex (receiving) I JUST WANT SHANE, But she is for sure the straight girl whisperer….And her hair is ridiculous.
The soundtrack IS fantastic!!!! All of them!!!! Ugh! So much good music from that show!
Also….am I the only one that thought Carmen was the hot one???? Ayie yie yie!
