Andrew Glennon says that it is fitting that the demise of his family happened on July 4th. And that the court date was on Halloween. In his victim impact statement he says that Amber Portwood darkened every holiday he spent with her.
As previously reported, Amber Portwood was sentenced last Thursday after accepting a plea bargain for on count of felony domestic violence. She has escaped jail time for now, but the conditions of her parole are pretty strict. If she violates her parole seriously enough she could be sent to jail for five years.
Andrew Glennon’s Victim Impact Statement
Today, our friends at The Ashley transcribed the very lengthy statement. It’s difficult to read and raw in its honesty. Here are a few short bits of it. Andrew was very upset by Amber’s interview with Dr. Drew said that nothing she was charged with ever happened. She glibly said that is someone was coming at her with a machete, she would run. Andrew says that he can’t run because he has fused ankles. He was also holding the baby.
More importantly, that, when you came at us, we were on the second floor of the house, up two flights of stairs. I got away as fast as I possibly could from you and, yes, I did consider leaping down two flights of stairs with our son in my arms but I’m glad I did not; he could have gotten seriously hurt.
She was also punching him while he was holding the baby.
That same consideration was not displayed by you while you were throwing full-force punches at me, missing our son’s head by inches as I held him in my arms. When I begged you to please stop shouting and cursing in front of our infant, your reply was, ‘It doesn’t matter, he’s just a baby. “
He’s not just a baby. He’s your son. But you have forgotten that time and time again and have carelessly put his life and mine in serious danger. You can not control yourself in your fits of rage.
Andrew also talks about the first time Amber abused him. Apparently it was in the drop-off lane of the elementary school that Leah goes to. Gary and school staff were witnesses along with other parents.
