Hey, it’s Cho and I’m starting this Survivor 39 recap at 1am in the morning! I had to attend a council meeting in relation to a friend trying to bring a new business to town. It was not without its share of drama and lasted over 2 hours! I’m not sure if this post is going to make any sense. You’ve been warned. If you haven’t checked out the previous episode, be sure to check that out here!
Karishma realizes that she was the plan B and understands that she’s expendable. Aaron relates to her feeling on the outside, because he was on the outside of the very first vote. Not even three minutes in, Dean & Chelsea make themselves a target by being an obvious romantic couple. Missy lets us know that even though Karishma is annoying to be around, Dean might have to go in order to keep the “sorority sisters” together.

Jamal is feeling especially isolated and decides to look for the hidden immunity idol. He reveals that he learned a lot while going through a traumatic relationship. He’s trying to become more present in life and stay connected to the here & now. After having this touching moment of self-reflection, Jamal finds the immunity. He vows that he’s going to shake things up.
The Power of Persuasion
Vokai gets the opportunity to select someone to visit the island of idol. No one is willing to immediately step up. Kelee is especially nervous because she knows whoever goes will be able to potentially blow her game up. All of a sudden, Noura volunteers to go, exclaiming that she came here to play the game. If Noura is involved, it’s bound to be dramatic.

Noura’s lesson on the island of idols is about persuasion. She definitely needs this lesson. We get several iconic flashbacks to moments where Survivors have persuaded another into doing something that’s in their best interest. Noura’s challenge is to become the caller in the next immunity challenge. Before Rob can even get anymore words out, she excited accepts and doesn’t back down. Sandra and Rob both give confessionals essentially trashing her overzealousness. They’re so shady.
The Blind Leading the Blind
Noura gets back and comes up with the MOST RIDICULOUS lie ever in order to be the caller in the next challenge! You really can’t make this stuff up. Everyone is so perplexed and confused about what she’s talking about. Kelee is just elated that Noura is so deep in this lie and trying to cover her ass that she doesn’t have enough time to expose what happened with Kelee on the island of idols. But wait, there’s more! After bullying everyone into picking her for the caller, she has everyone practice the blindfold challenge! Obviously, this shows everyone failing and losing even more confidence in Noura’s skills!

I must say, it’s really unfair that the Vokai tribe got to practice the challenge before hand. No matter the caller, if they lose, they must really suck. At the challenge, not only is Norua not chosen to be the caller but they sit her out entirely! HA! This means Noura will lose her vote at the next tribal council. It’s Vokai’s Jason versus Lairo’s Elisabeth as the callers. Vokai plays dirty as they make random noises while Elisabeth tries to communicate to Missy. It sucks watching Lairo struggle in this challenge. But wow, Elisabeth is coming back for her tribe. This would be a major comeback in the puzzle section! In the end, Vokai wins the immunity challenge!
Cirque du Lairo
Right after the challenge, Karishma feels as though there’s going to be a unanimous vote against her. Both Dean and Chelsea revel in the fact that Karishma is guaranteed to leave. Not a split second later, we see Aaron scheming against Dean. He says he’s an underperformer and has Chelsea in his back-pocket. Elisabeth argues against this in a confessional, because compared to Karishma, at least he works around camp. But in person, she is totally agreeable. Elisabeth is the perfect type of two-faced player.

Elisabeth goes to Elaine about the plot, and they both become wary of Aaron being willing to turn on his homeboy so easily. Elisabeth then goes to Aaron & Missy and says that Elaine is unfortunately not on board with booting Dean. Did y’all see what she just did?! She’s literally throwing Elaine under the bus in the most stealthy way possible, and I love it! She makes it seem like Elaine is the reason why Dean won’t go home. What’s worse is that Missy responds to her failed plan to boot Dean by then throwing Chelsea’s name out as a vote to Elaine. This makes NO sense! Missy & Aaron seem to be overplaying as they’ve now targeted all of Karishma, Dean and Chelsea to different tribemates. This is a circus show.
Russian Roulette
We arrive to Sandra saying that “they just love tribal council”! Chelsea admits that maybe their tribe really is good at blindsides but bad at challenges. Karishma owes her game in the life to the Survivor gods that she’s even still here at this point. Elaine says everyone is moving way too fast in the game and switching up too many game plans. Everyone is open about the fact that tonight is a game of Russian Roulette. Karishma is happy to hear this, but Missy let’s her know that it could still be her. It’s time to vote, and we’re either going to get a crazy blindside or Karishma is going home. Jeff reads the votes: Karishma, Karishma, Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea and Chelsea voted out. Sandra says: “Yup, you wanted a blindside. You got you one!”

How Missy was able to convince them to get rid of Chelsea makes no sense to me, and if you’re Elaine or Elisabeth, I would have lost a lot of trust in her. Worse even is the fact that I think Chelsea had an immunity idol in her pocket! What do you think about tonight’s episode? Be sure to comment below. I’m just not loving this Survivor season like I have all seasons past. I really don’t like the island of idols theme. Are others loving it or feeling blah?
Honestly, I am having trouble getting in to this season too.
I’m actually liking the commentary that Sandra & Rob give. It’s an interesting take on experienced Survivors serving as mentors. I think this episode was pretty funny in regards to Noura especially.
I agree. I am liking it well enough.
It was HILARIOUS when they all in almost unison said NOURA when Jeff asked who was sitting out!
Karishma is playing a victim and I am really sick of it.
And you have to love it when someone says they love blindsides and then go right home!
I am really looking forward to the next season of All Stars.
?♂️?
Yeah there’s just something about Karishma that screams weak. I want to feel sorry for her, but I also just don’t… Something’s off.
I am struggling too. I have 3 episodes recorded but haven’t felt like watching it this season. I love Cho’s recaps. Cho, did your friend get his business?
omg Joey thanks for asking! It was quite the mess. Eric and I both have lots of experience going to town hall meetings. Eric is actually on the zoning commission, so I go to all the meetings to stay informed as well as to support him.
In this particular case, a competing business filed an appeal to an ALREADY approved business plan, because they’re afraid of this place taking their customers. It was all very ludacris. They dug up stuff on my friend to try to make his case look bad. It was really desperate. The worse part is that some of it worked and the deliberations were intense. Lawyers were there objecting to certain stuff. It felt like a circus show.
Suffice to say, the appeal was overturned and the business plan was RE-approved. Hopefully there are no more surprises!
This season is so confusing. Do they tell the people NOT to tell the others that Rob and other is on the island. These people are boring and silly. I am no longer a fan.
All things considered, the logistics of how this twist works is really frustrating. It’s random sometimes but not random at others? What tribe gets to send someone and why? And who all knows about the twist as of right now? Did Elisabeth tell others? There’s a lot of plot holes right now in the twist.
Still loving this season here! Karishma has nine lives. I was sad to see Chelsea go before her, Karishma’s constant pity partying makes me tired. Although I was hoping they would all turn on Aaron, he seems to be spending more time scheming about who to vote out than contributing to the game. Noura was hilarious on the Island of Idols. She’s so enthusiastic I can’t help but kind of like her, but I would love to sit down with Boston Rob and Sandra and hear them shit talk her.
Hey Kyle, thanks so much for the comment! I want to root against Noura, but she’s such a star. I want to see her last throughout the rest of the game to see what other trouble she gets herself in! haha
I agree about Aaron. The thing is that he started off on the wrong foot, but he’s been able to get in with Missy who seems to the core of who’s making decisions on that tribe. There’s switch next week though, so everything will be flipped upside down.
Cho- Great recap! Wow. Aaron is hot but he needs to slow down and not flip flop so quickly. Noura makes my brain hurt. She can’t seem to have a clear thought for more than minute. I ‘m starting to dislike Missy. Her disloyalty to her alliance and flipping votes so easily is going to come back to bite her in the butt.
I also was put off by Missy’s capriciousness. And it wasn’t even a good move? Like, what was the point of getting rid of Chelsea when they could have gotten rid of Dean instead? He was an outsider of the alliance and the only person that would be put off would be Chelsea. NOW, you have Missy’s allies looking at her a little sideways AND Dean is pissed. Not good going into a switch to make such a move.
Aaron is getting hotter and hotter. I didn’t really notice him the first episode but this episode I was kind of fanning myself. haha
Noura… I can’t help but want to see her get into more silly drama. I was literally laughing out loud watching her practice the challenge trying to convince everyone to pick her.
I am living for how shady Rob and Sandra are!! Missy and Aaron are playing too hard right now, they need to back off some.
LOL I laugh whenever Sandra speaks. It’s a problem. She’s probably my all time favorite Survivor at this point.
I agree. Missy and Aaron were way too capricious and they exposed themselves to be flip floppers long term. With a switch coming up, I wouldn’t be surprised if they get burned.
I still like Jamal.
This episode redeemed him for me. I’m still teetering on neutral overall. I like him playing from the bottom instead of from the top!
TT- I like Jamal also and I’ll say it again I think he has the sexiest neck and shoulders!
Yes, but beneath those sexy neck and shoulders Jamal also displays some serious boobage. Boobage that could do with the support of a “bro” or a “mansiere”. Barring that, I’d settle just to have it covered by a t-shirt, towel or hell, even a palm frond. 😀
There’s so many people but here’s what I think of a few of them
Jamal— judgy
Karishma— spaz
Noura— spazoid
I’m very late commenting…
But I liked this episode. I agree about Noura, she’s a mess and it’s funny to watch. Big Brother feed viewers all took a long glance when Sandra told Noura to eat her watermelon! We had a guy obsessed with watermelon, he ate about TEN a week, it was absurd.
I loved how the tribe shut Noura down. They had to know she was lying… she’s a bad liar.
I also find it funny when Rob and Sandra ease drop on the eviction and comment to each other.
The changing of the mind of who to evict from Missy is downright awful gameplay. She can think it, but she shouldn’t voice it. It makes her untrustworthy.
I thought this episode was hilarious. I love the eaves dropping at tribal council too. And wtf with these people going home with idols in their pockets? You know your numbers are down so merge is coming soon so how are they sofa king confident to not use it? It’s seriously Survivor 101 and they claim to be superfans? I’m ready for merge because this group is so disjointed and unaware.
Agreed. I would play my idol the moment I got it. Never go out with an idol in your pocket.
