Hey, it’s Cho and I’m really looking forward to this Survivor 39 recap, because Wednesdays represent almost being done with the work week which means the weekend is almost here! What is everyone doing? If you didn’t watch last week, you missed out on Noura blossoming into the most annoying person on Survivor 39: Island of Idols. Read about that before we get to tonight’s episode where she will without doubt wreak more havoc.
After the last tribal council with Vokai, both Jack and Jamal were blindsided by Molly’s vote which has them feeling on the outside. Tommy goes out of his way to try to do damage control with them, but seems to have more difficulties with Jamal. He’s not taking it well. He says he forgives the tribe, but we all know that he doesn’t.
Jamal Places A Target On Himself
Noura didn’t learn any lessons from the constructive feedback that she received the last 3 days, because she’s annoying everyone. Like usual, she’s up early in the morning bossing people around and suggesting that people do more work to prove themselves. Dan takes the charge with rallying everyone around a Noura vote-off, but Jamal isn’t too keen on letting Dan and his “used car salesman” tactics fly too long. Instead of Jamal letting the Noura vote go smoothly, he makes a target of himself by playing too strong.
Karishma is Having a Hard Time
On Lairo, the women feel really good with their alliance, but Karishma lets us know that it’s all an act for her. Aaron sees the writing on the wall that the girls alliance is tight and rallies the four guys together to create a counter alliance. Vince feels like Aaron’s offer is disingenuous, because just 3 days ago he was wanting him out of the game, so he doesn’t mind the ladies having control.

Karishma stabs her hand to the bone while eating coconut. It’s a really graphic scene. She’s on the ground on the verge of fainting. Literally no one checks on her. She cries as she realizes that she’s alone on the tribe. I feel for her. My entire tribe would be dead to me too! Vince is a bit harsh with her in saying that she’s frustrating to play the game with. I bet she’s the reason why we can’t have a girl’s alliance!
As soon as Vince leaves for the Island of Idols, everyone starts scheming about the need to split the vote between him if he comes back with an idol. How do they know this information? Did Elizabeth share it? Dean blurts out the split vote plan which makes Karishma automatically think she’s the other target. Dean is an idiot.
Stealth Mode Ninja
Vince immediately breaks down in tears as he is extremely star struck by Rob & Sandra. He really can’t get himself together, which humbles Rob as he realizes the impact he had on someone else. This is touching. Would you cry if you met one of your favorite Survivors?

Rob tells him that his test is to sneak into the Vokai tribe and light a torch without them knowing. They both train him on how to successfully complete the mission. It’s literally BOOT CAMP! HA! This is a ridiculously great scene! Vince sneaks into the camp, and realizes that Vokai is stupid and doesn’t keep their fire dry enough to keep. He grabs some ash instead. Rob & Sandra deem his adaptation of the challenge a success and awards him an immunity idol. I’m so happy for him! Hopefully he uses it tonight if they go to tribal.
The Women Maintain Control
The winner of the immunity challenge will win a ton of comfort. Janet has a lot of trouble in the diving portion. This is the first challenge she hasn’t kicked total ass on, so I hope she doesn’t receive any flack. Lairo takes a lot of time on the teeter totter portion of this challenge which lets Vokai catch up. This immunity challenge is actually exciting and requires SO much teamwork! Vokai makes a huge comeback victory. I feel bad for Karishma who is being blamed for the challenge.

It seems like the two targets are Karishma and Vince. This is the point of perspective from the boys. Dean goes to Missy with the split vote plan who pretends to agree. Missy is smart though: she recognizes that it would be stupid to further alienate Karishma as a female member of the alliance, and Vince is more likely to align with the girls than the guys. So she comes up with Tom as the target for her alliance, because he’s weaker compared to Aaron and Dean. Elizabeth thinks Vince is the easier target for the women siince the 3 guys and all the girls wouldn’t really mind him leaving. What they don’t know is that he has an idol that he’s willing to play tonight!
Karishma Fights For Her Life
We get to tribal council, and I’m really interested in how the women’s alliance will play this vote. It’s an important one to see if this is actually a competent women’s alliance! Tom & Aaron immediately call Karishma out on being the reason why they are losing challenges. Karishma defends herself and says that she is also physically capable and can do those types of challenges. Karishma admits that she feels on the outside of the sorority of Elizabeth/Missy/Chelsea.
Right as Tom says he wants to just get to the vote, Karishma gets up and starts whispering in all of the girls’ ears! Tom says this is all an act for Karishma to scramble by putting on a show. He doesn’t buy her act at all, but we’re about to see in the vote now. Vince doesn’t play his idol, and I think he doesn’t need to in this case.

Jeff reads them: Tom, Karishma, Karishma, Karishma, Vince, Vince, Vince, Vince, and Vince is voted off. Okay, so I’m actually blindsided and don’t know what to feel about this. Were the girls originally going to vote of Karishma? Did they switch to Vince last minute? Vince thought he was one of the girls, but obviously he’s not. Let’s make sense of this in the comment section below. If you like what I do here on the site, be sure to support me in my other ventures elsewhere on the internet!
I actually rewound to see if I missed a scene… where was Vince coming back to camp after IOI?? What did he tell his tribe? Did he talk to Elizabeth about it? I wanted to see that!
Good point. Maybe we will get a flashback next week. I’m having a hard time picking a pony this season. I kind of like Jamal and Karishma and they are both in trouble at the moment. I like Elaine on the other team but she’s unlikely to win. I guess as the game goes on I’ll be more attached to certain players. Does anyone have a strong favorite at this point?
I love your re-caps. I have been so busy the past 2 weeks I haven’t watched the show. I plan on watching it this weekend. I read that Vince is one of Jeff P’s favorite players ever. The expressions on Sandra and Rob’s in the photo are hilarious. Thanks for re-capping my favorite show. I will post my favorite player this weekend.
Awesome recap as usual and thanks for the Linktree to your other online endeavors! You the best!
I was blindsided as well. I’m not really disappointed Vince is gone, but he seemed solid with the girls alliance? I am going to need explanation as to how they ended at that vote. There had to have been some inkling he had the idol. I was happy Tom was spared. I find him strangely hot. Don’t judge me.
Karishma… hmmm… I want to like her, but she was so self pitying the entire episode. When she was laying on the ground bleeding, she almost looked like she was doing yoga to me, so maybe the others didn’t know she was bleeding. Was her bone really exposed? She seemed to heal relatively quickly if so. How about yelling “Hey guys I’m bleeding!” I hate when people grovel in self pity. I hope she can pull herself together and be someone to root for but I’m not optimistic.
I was struck at Vince’s emotional reaction to Boston Rob and Sandra. Of course sitting on my fat ass on the sofa, I was thinking, PULL IT TOGETHER! But it must be so hard to be out there in the elements, and always ‘on’… and to see two huge stars in the Survivor-verse like that, I might lose it myself.
I agree with Tamra, I don’t have a favorite yet. I think I’m leaning toward Missy, Chelsea and Tommy? But at this point it’s all up in the air.
Boston Rob actually looked a little perturbed at Vince and his emotional response. He and Sandra seem pretty cold. Not sure they want to be there. Someone had to go and it might as well be Vince. Really enjoying this season but this episode was badly edited and came across as disjointed.
Vince should have played the idol regardless. He only had two times to use it. Knowing his name was on the chopping block before, he should not have trusted anyone (especially the guy’s). Karshina either told the girl’s that Vince had the idol or she told them to switch their vote to Vince instead. Jamal better start flying under the radar cause he will be next onthat tribe.
I was really disappointed Vince didnt play his idol . When Karsh started whispering, i had a bad feeling
He went thru the challenge and got the idol..too bad
.
On Vince’s visit to the idol, they didn’t really give him helpful skill or advice- just the challenge of sneaking into the other camp.
Kari’shma was so quiet about the injury and almost passing out- I don’t know that anyone knew it was bad.
Weren’t there 2 people doing the puzzle? If so, why did Karishma take the full brunt of their losing?!?
I’m dying to know what karishma whispered too. Fully expected Vince to stay; total shocker
Hi Again Cho and All! Things have been crazier than usual but popping in to say I’m loving the recaps and comments per usual!
I was blindsided too and still not sure if the whispering was real or a ruse? I’m enjoying Rob and Sandra. They’ve got a great rapport. Our family has picked from the ooening credits as always, my oldest has already been voted off, lol. (Molly) She’s now the hippie looking guy. I don’t know names well yet, but just glad the minorities made it another week. Big Brother was bad enough on that front this season and Survivor can be the same way.
Sorry if this has already been discussed, but are Rob and Sandra living together at Idol Head Island? It was weird that there wasnt a rule on what they should say when they got back to camp. What happens when someone blows it all wide open? They would get credit for being honest and all the others would be liars. Or is there a rule?
Well, well, well…. I SEE YOU little Miss Aud. You practically ghost me, but when CHO shows up, suddenly you are here. LOL. I don’t blame you. Cho is amazing. 🙂
Rob and Sandra live with Jeff on whatever cushy hotel they have. They are not stuck on the island. They are free to luxuriate in a hotel room with room service. Or whatever Jeff does. What a great gig, right? You are on Survivor but NOT on Survivor. 🙂
Now stop ignoring me! LOL JK good to see you.
That’s not what I read elsewhere. My understanding is that Rob and Sandra are living the same way as if they were playing the game.
I thought Vince only had idols in the next two tribals? If that is so, why didnt he play it just to be sure? I wonder if Karishma was part of that blindside? We will find out next week. I think her injury revealed tendon (also white), which is scary enough. If it was cut down to bone I think she would need surgery.
I was so shocked Vince was voted out by the girls!! Maybe Elizabeth told him that he was safe when he came back, hopefully there’s some footage of why he didn’t think he needed to play his idol.
Cho- great recap. This seasons editing of the pre tribal council talk seems to be lacking compared to other seasons. Usually there is a lot of scrambling going on and this past episode I feel the viewers were left in the dark. Hopefully next week will show some footage of how they suddenly turned on Vince. I like the Island of the Idols concept but maybe production could have called it something different. The name alone paints a huge target on the backs of those that go. I still like Jamal and his sexy neck and shoulders but he needs to pull back on his aggressive game play. I kinda think he should play the strong silent type until he can work his way into an alliance.
I liked Vince but he made a rookie mistake. I’m starting to really like Missy. Why was Aaron not a choice? Should have split the vote between him and Karishma. He’ll be more of a physical threat down the line plus I don’t like him, lol!
I’m not getting through this binge as fast as I thought I would—too many interruptions. But am enjoying it nonetheless.
Oh and I loved the flashback of my homie dumbass Russell Hantz. I just remembered that stupid flipping out show he had with his brother and son and the taco truck. He could’ve at least gotten new teeth with his money! His 15 minutes of fame lasted more like 5. Lol
Jesus Richard Hants it your homie? LAWD.
Only in the sense that he lives in Houston. Lol (And it’s Russell not Richard do not confuse with the legendary OG Richard!)
