Thomas Ravenel Takes Plea Deal On Sexual Assault Case

September 11, 2019 by tamaratattles 42 Comments

Thomas Ravenel
Mugshot

Once again, justice was not served in Charleston. Thomas Ravenel was in criminal court today to accept a ridiculous plea deal in the criminal case for sexually assaulting a nanny back in 2015.

Ravenel pled guilty to third degree assault and battery. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail. Then, the sentence was suspended and instead he paid a $500 fine.

The victim was not present in court. Instead, the judge read a letter from the victim. Following the reading of the letter Thomas Ravenel made the following statement, “Your honor, on the night of the incident I did attempt to kiss her and in so doing I grabbed her arm and that was wrong, and I am much appreciative of the opportunity to apologize to her in court today.”

Thomas Ravenel

This is utterly ridiculous. It’s infuriating to even write this story.

There is still a civil case pending in this matter. One could hope that some for of justice is served in that case. But hope for justice is in short supply these days.

I am beyond disgusted with outcome of this… I’m not shocked by the fact that he isn’t getting any jail time, but the $500 fine instead of jailtime (no probation) is beyond a slap in the face for Nanny Dawn… The Charleston court system literally said “money always wins” today… Unbelievable… Especially with how much press this case received nationwide…

Yep, $500 and the Nanny claims he caused bruises to her neck which were photographed and time-stamped as evidence and he only apologizes for “kissing her and grabbing her arm.” Not to mention the Nanny claims he turned off the lights and removed his pants prior to this horrendous act.

Beyond disappointing and quite frankly sickening and enraging. Unfortunately, not surprising. When following cases like these, I always pray the justice I never received is served. Sadly, it is not the majority of the time. I agree Tamara, short supply indeed.

Dare I ask: Will he even have to register as a sex offender, or does he even get to avoid that?

It’s not like we’re talking about a teen being caught with a joint, or for that matter someone struggling with addiction who was caught with an ounce of meth. This is someone who’s being confronted with evidence of far more heinous, felonious offenses. I’m not usually a “LOCK THEM UP!” kind of person, but this isn’t the usual case of someone convicted of a minor drug or petty theft charge facing some ridiculously long sentence.

Just when I think our criminal justice system in Nevada is highly flawed, South Carolina pops in to remind me that we could always fall further down.

She still has a civil suit against him, Bravo and Haymaker. Boy howdy you just know he’s gonna come after those he feels were against him with guns blazing.

Yeah, at least that’s something. Still, civil court is a very different ball game. Hopefully, Nanny Dawn’s attorneys have a team of forensic accountants ready to follow the money should TRav “pull an OJ” and hide assets.

Dawn has bit having a very difficult time through all of this. I doubt she has money for attorneys. So I am not sure how that will all work out. She needs to do a GoFundMe.

That’s what makes this case even more disgusting. It further confirms the worst suspicion that so many of us have about our judicial system: That there’s a “fast lane” for those who have the money to pay for it, and a broken system that harms those who can’t “pay to play” (by hiring the best lawyers and/or knowing the “right influencers” on the bench and/or in the DA’s office who will bend to their will).

On that note, if Dawn does decide to set up a grassroots fundraising page, I’m sure quite a few of us will want to donate to help her with the civil case and/or whatever else she needs to get through this tough time.

Unfortunately, no. That would have been part of the sentence. I would have thought that past criminal record (doesn’t he have a LEGALLY documented record of assaults??) would have earned him more than the minimum punishment that this appears to be, but I guess that didn’t happen either. I suppose it’s still, “Oh, boys will be boys, y’all. Now try to keep your hands to yourself there now Thomas. WINK!”

        Uch.
        Utterly disgusting.

It’s totally f’d up if he isn’t required to register as a sex offender. If he’s not, then the fix was definitely in.

He’s not required to register under the charge that he pled to. His previous alleged sexual assault (with Ashley Perkin’s mother) was resolved through a private settlement agreement and did not result in criminal charges against him.

This sort of utter bullsh*t is why rape and sexual assault are underreported. Money can’t buy you class, but apparently in South Carolina it can buy you a judge (allegedly.) I’m furious.

I hope that civil court will not be kind. Because he is not in jail, I hope Dawn at least gets some BIG MONEY from civil court.

I didn’t expect Thomas to do jail time, and figured she’d run out of money before he did. He’s got the means and then some. But, I do think Kathryn figured this would ensure her getting full custody. There current arrangement is a temporary order and the final one has not been decided yet. I suspect he’ll press for full custody not just primary custody.
