Things To Binge On Labor Day

September 2, 2019 by tamaratattles 100 Comments

First of all, I apologize for my 494th meltdown, and I am grateful for your kindness. If it weren’t fo you guys I’d be a WalMart greeter. And that job may still be in my future. I am just at a crossroads in my life and very confused about how to handle it. I’m also kind of angry that I have spent my whole life without a good relationship. I got fucked up in life REALLY early. And I tend to really fuck things up before I can get fucked over. Some days I just want to use the nuclear football.

However, in my defense, this is not a nine to five job where I get the weekends off. As an old person with a peanut for a bladder, I get up at night and wonder, “Should I check to see if a housewife has gone to jail or rehab or had their husband deported?” It never turns off. So again, thanks for choosing to still read here. xo

Now to get back on track we need to talk about things you might want to binge on Labor Day.

  • DAVID MEETS MAN I cannot stress this enough. It’s on OWN and it is the best thing I’ve ever watched. It’s incredible. We are three or four seasons in and I CANNOT WAIT for the next episode. All I can say without spoiling anything is it’s about growing up in the project of Miami. HOLY CRAP! I just saw the ratings for this show and they are like WWHL Bad. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? Reality TV is ruining everything.
  • Queen Sugar. We are on season four. It is also on OWN. Start from season one. It’s about family dynamics
  • The Affair on HBO. It’s good. We are a few seasons in and I am beginning to lose interest but if you haven’t seen any of it, it’s good. Ditto Big Little Lies.
  • Tonight at  8pm Lifetime has a movie called The Secret Life of Cheerleaders I can’t record it but it reruns at midnight if you want to set your DVRs. They are running a bunch of Cheerleader movies all night. It looks like it might be creepy stuff… I dunno.

Or you can just have fun with friends and family! That’s all I got. Feel free to add whatever I missed.

I’m really enjoying Pennyworth. It’s on Epix and is just in its first season. I think we’re 7 episodes in. Also for Suits fans (or former Suits fans), Pearson (USA) is pretty good.

TT! I hear you about regretting “never having a good relationship “. I’m in the same boat, and it’s sad sad scary. But it’s never to late, my gram always said “if you want to change your life change your surroundings. “ Surroundings can be anything from location, friends, mind set, ect… I hope we both find a good one.

I love Queen sugar, , so I’ll definitely watch Davis meets Msn. I’ve been binging on “shades of Blue” with JLo and Ray Liotta and I love it.

Same, at the moment I feel like I don’t really have any friends either. I’ve been through a lot, and ended a lot of toxic relationships (friends/family/career) in the past 3 years. I am working on trying new things and meeting new people, hope springs eternal. I feel pretty good now, and figure there must be other nice people out there who want healthy relationships too.

“Change your surroundings” … I love this! I live in a good town for raising my kids, but I hope when my husband and I retire that we can relocate. It doesn’t have to be a beach town, though that would be my dream.

    Ok – 2 things TT.
    1. I am crap at relationships too and was also messed up as a kid. But, At 48 I forced myself on Eharmony. The idea of online dating made my skin crawl. I went on one date & said Fuck this. Went online to cancel – and had a message from hubby. First marriage at 50 for me, and somehow he is still putting up with me because I can be a huge pain in the ass with all my issues. He is INCREDIBLY kind to me, handy as shit, understands I need a huge amount of alone time, doesn’t judge my weird food habits, and has come to love my pack of dogs. I would have never met him in the real world. He lived in the country, has a strong country accent, drove a big pickup, went huntin (no -g) and fishin (no g), but has a great smile & heart like no other. Eharmony. I was brutally honest on profile. My days off work are for napping, eating Cheetos, TV & hanging with my dogs. If your days off are action-packed & super social, you are not the guy for me.
    2. Just binged Below Deck (regular) season 3 (again) with Rocky. Pure crazy. That is always a great season to rewatch! Four weddings & a Funeral – TV show not movie, How I met your mother & Offspring (Australian show) , EKaterina Russian w/subtitles, Schitt’s Creek, and hubby is binging “Corner Gas” and laughing so loud I’m gonna have to binge that next.
    Happy No-Laboring Day!

TT, I am exactly the same way in relationships because all of the important men in my life died before I was 14. I will have guys who want to to marry me and send them running for the hills ? ? Plus, like Tinsley, I am too close to my Mom.

I don’t watch a whole lot of TV in the summer, but I’m looking forward to that cheerleader movie tonight. I grew up watching really bad Lifetime moves with Mom, but the quality lately has been even worse than that. Hopefully this one doesn’t disappoint.

I hope you and Banjo have a nice and relaxing Labor Day!

I can relate to your pea size bladder, so annoying. However I am sure all the water I drink at night doesn’t help lol. I started rewatching The Wire. The talent from that series is incredible. Idris Elba, Michael C. Jordan, the guy from The Affair, the fantastic actor who played Omar, maybe my favorite character. Also the actor who olayed Avon, Who I first saw in Remember the Titans. All the actors are just incredible. The series breaks your heart in so many ways but it’s a Masterpiece.

I highly recommend watching The Dirt on Netflix. I can’t stand Motley Crew but the story is a flashback to the hard partying times of the 80s. It’s really funny. Also if you haven’t watched Good Omens, what are you waiting for? It’s on Prime. My TV package doesn’t come with OWN.

Meanwhile, I’m trying to find a fabulous Mother of the Bride dress for my daughter’s wedding on New Year’s Eve. I am psyched. I haven’t gone out on New Year’s Eve in over 25 years. It’s at a chic boutique hotel and everyone has a room. I’m hoping to find dress today on sale. The spectacular one I found looks like something Mortia Adams would wear but much more Art Deco. Way over my budget at $1,485.00!

Also, I’m eagerly awaiting the birth of my first “real” grandchild. My daughter is due November 12. She’s hysterical with her cravings. First is watermelon. Funny story, we had dinner.Monday and her meal came with 2 sides. She chose chips and fries! Then she let it slip she had potatoes for lunch and hash browns for breakfast! I’m not sure if y’all have Culvers in your area (burger & cutard). They put out a monthly calendar of the custard flavor of the day. Well, my dear Amy has on her calendar the dates marked for all the flavors she “needs” to have. There’s a Culvers in the same location where she’s a pediatric nurse.

I apologize for the novel. I hope someone got a kick out of it.

My sister got me watching The Righteous Gemstones on HBO. It’s about a dysfunctional family of televangelists (that may be redundant), led by a (slimmed down — yay for him) John Goodman. We don’t like traditional comedy, so I hadn’t watched, but the first 5 minutes made me laugh harder than anything since Colin’s impersonation of Hannah as Dragon Lady and a scene of Abby from the latest Dance Moms.

Watching Carnival Row on Prime — only at night — need as much light to soak in before the dark comes back. Next up David Makes Man, thanks to TT.

I knit (very therapeutic) so I listen to (dark and true) podcasts: My Favorite Murder (true crime and comedy) by Murderinos Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark; The Murder Squad by crime journalist Billy Jensen and retired criminalist — and my hero — Paul Holes; Cocaine and Rhinestones, the VERY DARK side of the history of country music by Tyler Mahan Coe (son of David Allen Coe). WARNING: The Spade Cooley episodes haunted me for days.

I won’t even go into relationships, other than to confess the girl who could barely go a day without sex hasn’t kissed anyone since Dec. 23, 2000. “Stay sexy and don’t get murdered.”

I have been around for many years and you help me keep sane! So on to bigger and better news! My daughter’s second Rottie (Angor) turned one today! He’s a big dumb clumsy lovable dog that loves to hug people..love him so much! My big brother John came to spend the weekend with me and we had a great time taking walks about the neighborhood . Good exercise! And we also went to the golf range and I was super excited to swing a club and make the balls go where I wanted them to go! Lastly, we visited the farmers market and I got advise from the 80 year old farmer man who I am totally in love with- and he tells me my tomato plants will do well over the next 2 months giving me high hopes for my crop! Could have over 30 good tomatoes in the next 5 weeks! Woo hoo!

Y’all. I need to vent about Love After Lockup. I have not been watching the new season until today. These people are all batshit crazy. The women engaged to prisoners all have young children. One of them,I don’t know her name,is “engaged” to a bank robber. She is obsessed with serial killers. She is particularly enamored by Ted Bundy, or Ted Bunski as she calls him she thinks he is in the Max Security prison she passes in Colorado. If she is so obessed with serial killer, should she know Ted Bundy died in his FLORIDA cell in 1989? These people are abject morons!

All of these people are batshit but in a super entertaining way. Did you see that she left her kids for THREE MONTHS and had her parents keep them? Her parents omg I can’t. Where is CPS? The bank robber GF is in for a rude awakening … All the bank robbers I knew had one thing in common — entitlement. They all — except one — thought they DESERVED that money! The attitude extended to other areas of their lives too. They deserved EVERYTHING!

Short story: I was a nice girl on a bad path. I thought it was cool to have drug dealer boyfriends. A friend went to Lompoc CAMP — where the Watergate rats went. He made a bank robber friend. We became pen pals. I visited. We had chemistry. The caste system in prison — the “bankers” thought they were elite and hung out together. Met 6 inside. He was “reformed” going to a halfway house, with a job waiting in L.A. He got out. Newly sober, I “did a geographic,” as NA calls it, for a fresh start. After not doing drugs inside for YEARS (a lie), he lasted 12 hours outside. He quickly went back to prison, not camp. My pride kept me in L.A. My sobriety tanked. Everyone I knew were bank robbers (5, one stayed straight) and bigtime drug dealers. No shit, my life WAS Pulp Fiction. Moved home, got clean, went back to school for graphic design. He ripped off one of his mobbed up friends. I heard he is “resting” in the desert between L.A. and Vegas. Having a high IQ does not equal making smart choices.

The spouse and I both have some kind of bug – the sore throat/fever/head and chest congestion/body aches kind of bug – so, I made a pot of homemade chicken noddle soup and threw in some extra crushed red pepper to get the sinuses running (I put crushed red pepper in almost everything savory I make – what can I say, my Mom was from Texas and we like things hot, really hot), plus I made two small loaves of the copycat recipe of Cheesecake Factory’s brown bread that has the dry whole oatmeal flakes on it, sliced up some sharp cheddar cheese, and opened a jar of spicy/zesty butter pickle slices to have on the side and I’m forcing the spouse to watch what I want to watch today. I discovered that our cable provider has a channel called FYI – or maybe it has been there for years and I just never noticed it before – ha ha – and they started this morning with a Grey’s Anatomy marathon, starting with Season 1 Episode 1 and it’s on almost all night tonight – even tho I already have all the seasons of Grey’s on DVD’s (as well as every season of ER). What can I say – I’ve worked in the medical community for decades – apparently I cannot get enough medical stuff in my life. I hope everyone, especially TT, because you’ve been having such a very rough go of it lately, has enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend and are binge-watching and eating some good eats all weekend. TT – I really hope you can find a place where you want to live someday really soon that will make you the happiest and I hope Banjo is also doing well this weekend – hope everyone who follows this site has a blessed and wonderful rest of the week as well.

If you haven’t seen transparent, omg, watch it. It’s not only about transitioning gender but mostly about this typical dysfunctional family. This summer I binged “hung” – a really old show but just funny and fun and sweet and with sex too. ?

Does anyone here watch the profit with Marcus lemonis? Yes it’s reality but you learn something, while you laugh at dysfunctional (work) relationships. If you haven’t seen them, insecure is SO GREAT and Atlanta is weird but good too.

I get lots of ideas for shows to watch from these posts. The only Bravo shows I watch anymore are the two Below Decks. I think I cringed and ff’d through most of the last RHNY and RHBH. Unfortunately I don’t get OWN, but I would still continue to read here if that’s all you covered.

Last thing I binge watched was two seasons of Black Spot on Netflix. A French show with both English dubbed and subtitled versions. Weird with myth and mystery combined. Beautiful cinematography if you are into that. I still have the third season of 3% to watch (from Brazil). Part of what I love about streaming is getting to see shows that I wouldn’t have been able to in the past.

I found this site because of the Arias trial. I love when you cover court cases, and I suspect you enjoy that too, more than watching the “Andy hates women” channel.

I literally do not understand how the CourtTV channel failed. If I had had ads then as everyone told me to do, I could be living in a Four Seasons somewhere. SOMEONE needs to bring back the Court TV channel! I would dump everything else for that. It’s fascinating, I need my Jinkasauraus reporting from outside the court room. As someone said I don’t want anyone to get murdered but if it was a Jodi Arias sitch, I’d get to Bravo when I get to Bravo. like I did the last time.

For those who missed it, put Jodi Arias in my search box. Scroll back to the very beginning. You won’t regret it.

At risk of sounding stupid, what is Spectrum?

I found article from cnn that they were supposed to be rebooting court tv in May 2019 with Vinnie Politan (no mention of Jean or Beth), but can’t find anything from searching my xfinity channels or on demand guide. I will watch a real time trial 24/7 over anything else! I’m thinking about trials of all the mass shootings and other high profile cases like Weinstein etc. Someone must be airing these somewhere. And there must be newer Jodi or Casey-like cases that haven’t hit media attention yet. (I’m not wishing for another murder either but surely there’s already a few that would make interesting trials) What about that guy who killed his wife and kids?

        True crime junkie here :/

Spectrum is a cable company that was formally Charter.

A few months back my local news channel had said Crime TV was back and was now a free channel. I was so upset that I couldn’t find it, but I guess it wasn’t included with cable yet. I’ll check online and see what I can find 🙂

True crime addict here. I regret not being on line during Jodi Arias. I knew every single thing about everything regarding her and waited for the six years to watch. I watched on desktop computer morning till night, frustrated by her “headaches” and the judge catering to her. What an event. I cried with the guilty verdict. I consider true crime the ultimate reality tv.
During one of my recent knee surgeries I COULD HAVE SWORN VINNIE POLITAN SAID COURT TV IS COMING. Was i hallucinating by the drugs?
(one knee was January 15, other knee May 28)
        I sleep to Forensic Files.
Won’t even get into Casey Anthony. Omg, i could talk all day. No one likes it here. Boys could care less, very obviously, lol.

If you like true crime, you may like two podcasts: “My Favorite Murder” and “The Murder Squad,” (Billy Jensen & Paul Holes). Both mix true crime — they take that VERY seriously — with weirdness and humor. Watch for HBO’s miniseries “I’ll Be Gone In the Dark,” based on Michelle McNamara’s book, on her mission to find the Golden State Killer. She died before it was done and Jensen, Paul Haynes and her widower, comedian Patton Oswalt, helped finish the book, GSK still at large. The three, along with Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) and Michelle’s family, were at a book event in Chicago, close to her hometown. Back in the hotel, late at night, Jensen got the call. WE GOT HIM! Best timing ever — except if Michelle had been alive.

I will listen to podcasts. Paul Holes just did that murder or suicide? special. I saw Levi Page has a podcast. A fan of him
            from Haleigh Cummings.
Endless crime unfortunately. And it’s truly just when it’s tne weirdest story, a weirder one happens.

Haleigh Cummings was the most heartbreaking story for me. Her father did not protect her with that girlfriend of his.

Her father and the girlfriend finally got thrown in jail for drug dealing.

I hated how Haleigh’s mother was treated at the time.
