Do any of you watch Game of Thrones? I used to be into Game of Thrones. I’m not sure what happened. I think the fact there was a year or so between the last two seasons had something to do with it. Then this season there was an episode that was just a long, long, long, war. In the dark. I had no idea what was going on and didn’t really care. I am now watching last weeks episode. Or trying to. I’ve started it multiple times over the last week and turned it off.
I thought it was just me. I can’t remember yesterday let alone the end of a season over a year ago. In fact, I’m five minutes in to last week’s episode and have no idea what is going on. Nevertheless, I shall persevere. Because apparently Game of Thrones ending is a big deal.
There are spoilers floating around that I’ve managed to mostly avoid. It seems everyone is preparing for a disappointing ending. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who could not get into this final season.
I’m terribly late getting started on my RHOP recap for tonight. I’m also super exhausted after sleeping what I thought was a lot last night. So I may not be awake for tonight’s grand finale of Game of Thrones. But I thought I’d put up place for y’all to chat if you want one. Happy viewing!
I watch it. I picked it up in season 4. I saw the First 3 seasons on demand after a friend commented that a guy we know had Dothraqui eyebrows. I had no idea what that meant but was intrigued and that’s what got me started on GoT.
As for the dark ep earlier this year, I brightened up my TV screen to its highest level and was able to see everything. Otherwise it would’ve been very difficult to watch.
I’ll probably watch the finale tomorrow. Just staying away from spoilers like you.
Not only do I watch but also read the books. I’m with you on the long dark battle scene though. I had to make myself watch it. This season has been kind of disappointing. I blame it on them not having a book to base it on since George R.R.Martin hasn’t finished the sixth book.
Doesn’t look like there’s going to be any happy endings. Daenarys has behaved like a mad Targaryean by razing Kings Landing. We must be going to see Sansa and Winterfell again. I guess it’s going to end with a dictator on the throne. It’s disappointing but probably realistic. I guess Jon Snow will return to the North or suffer the same fate as Varys
Martin needs to get the last book out to all of us that have waited almost a decade for it while he plays in Hollywood
Me, but I’m hiding from the internet until 10:01pm EST when it’s all over. Until then, the night is long and full of terrors. And vodka.
Game Of Thrones has been a commitment and it was hard to stay committed with such long breaks between seasons. They have such a huge cast and so much going on that sometimes it’s hard to keep up. That being said I love this show! I have laughed, cried, recoiled in horror and cheered in delight. Characters have gone from heroes to villain and vice versa. That have some of the best characters and the worst villains. There have been a few missteps along way but I still think it’s a great show and I will miss it. The Hound was my favorite thru the whole series.
We started watching a month ago and in that time binged the entire 8 seasons. Except for last weeks episode I have been very impressed. Not sure how they wrap everything up in 1 night but I’ll be watching!
I watched Season 1 of GoT and lost complete interest in it. For one, the fact that George RR Martin literally has a rape scene in every 17 pages of his work is seriously disturbing to me (yes, someone actually took the time to research that fact) – that man is obsessed with rape and incest – gee, no thanks. Good riddance.
I read the books years before the series and was very impressed with the first few seasons. I lost interest when Arya was with the faceless. But kept watching. I still like it BUT I am pissed that the direwolves didn’t get much play. I keep hearing how difficult it is with CGI, and how much it eats into the budget, but c’mon. Shooting in four disparate locales… Trekking all of that equipment into the wilds of Iceland… (there’s a very good extra about that). They spent money on creating an entire language for the Dothraki… and they can’t find the funds to use the direwolves to show all of the Stark kids warging with their wolves? This last season seems too rushed and too short, even with 80-minute episodes.
I have read some spoilers and it cracks me up when I read “they CAN’T let ___ happen…” because they can do ANYTHING. It is fiction! I read it started out INSPIRED by War of the Roses, it is its own story now. I just hope they do the other seasons and the characters justice. (I rewatched the first few episodes of Season 1 because of foreshadowing and there is A LOT.)
The Starbucks cup should NEVER have been allowed on set. There were plenty of drinking vessels to pour the beverage in. I do wonder if some of the spoiler leaks are on purpose.
Does anyone know whether the air is full of ash or snow? Burning question left unanswered
There are theories both ways. In Dany’s “acid trip,” it looked like snow. Some say that portended a “snow” on the throne. That seemed solidified when we learned Jon’s true birth story. Others say it is ashes and that the throne room without a roof rained ashes. I guess we will know soon. Or maybe not!
There fake snow is water/paper, if u get a chance watch “the watch” it’s kinda cool to see the crews, shout out to Belfast Ireland people
I am satisfied with the finale. Without giving away any spoilers, every single main character stayed true to their self.
Disagree. Dany didn’t have enough character arc to go burning down the house like she did, and die the way she did, I was disappointed in that. Also why is Jon once again being called a bastard and right back at the wall? Nope so many questions and not enough answers. They could’ve done another 3-4 episodes to make this ending make sense to me.
I want a refund on my HBO subscription, what a let down, screwed with no lube. I’ve rewritten the last episode to my liking in my head. Meh.
Horrible finale!
I’ve never watched beyond a quick scene on YouTube.
However, Albie Manzo just posted something on Twitter that I absolutely cracked up reading.
“I haven’t wasted 10 years of my life like this since Real Housewives of New Jersey”
Bwahahahaha!
I hesitate to even ask this question here, but if there are any readers, has anyone read Throne of Bones by Vox Day? I like his writing style for fantasy far more than G. RR Martin, but not as much as Tolkien.
Yes! We binged season one and were hooked after that. There have been some lulls in the pacing but I still enjoy the show. The first few seasons were better than the last few. This season I have hated so far. The ending was fine with me but I hated how we got there and how rushed it all was. Leslie Jones does an awesome “live” commentary every week on IG. She says all the things I am thinking. It’s like a cliffs notes.
Couldn’t get through the books. Martin is a good storyteller, but a tedious writer.
The show’s writers disrespected this behemoth they’d built by shunning HBO’s offer of ten full episodes for the last two seasons so they could work on Star Wars. By giving us the bum’s rush, they did a grave disservice to the integrity of the characters, the actors, and Martin’s original work. Not to mention the big fat finger they gave the fans.
Oh well. It’s done and I am glad. Could totally watch a show about Arya’s adventures, though.
Best tv ever. Sad so many seemed disappointed with the final season. Guess I am easily pleased. It was story telling at its finest. Sad to see it end. Lighning in a bottle.
I agree. I started watching at season 1 and would rewatch all the episodes and season 2 the same all the way to the finale. The dark episode was disappointing as was the finale in the sound area, I had trouble hearing people talking while the music was loud. Those are my only complaints.
Loved it! Only sad that it’s over!
This show really used to mean a lot to me and my husband. Back when we first started seriously dating, he bought hbo for my apartment so we could watch together. We were both bartenders at the time and we had Sunday off together, so it was something special we could do together. But, this season with exception of a few episodes really was a disappointment. And the finale became nothing more than a precursor to the four spinoffs they already have in the works. Or so I’ve heard. It makes me sad that they didn’t honor their characters and loyal viewers in a more honest way. We watched last night after he got home from and both kept saying that we couldn’t wait till it was over. Such a sad ending indeed. Not for us but, you get it…
Definitely rushed it. The deaths of Cersei and Jaimie were meh. Oh well. Looking forward to the Deadwood movie, cocksuckers.
Deadwood’s coming! Finally!
Loved it. Detractors can Bite Me. If there must be griping, let’s talking about how Tony Soprano went out. Or did he? Any series finale that does not approximate a power failure in the penultimate seconds is acceptable to me. Including the classic series I shall not name that forced the viewer to witness the death of Every. Single. One. of it’s characters in the time it took to hear Sia’s “Breathe” one time.
I’ll bite you any time Dalai Mama! I think I’ve responded to your comments before but, if not I probably just read and laughed cause I think you’re so funny! We probably won’t always agree but, thank you for your funny, witty insight.
I thought the finale would NEVER END. For some reason I feel like I HAVE to watch this show. I don’t think I am smart enough for this series. I have dumbed down my brain so far with pathetic reality TV that actually needing to pay attention for almost a full hour and a half is beyond my capabilities.
On the way to Publix this weekend I heard on the radio that there are special therapist for people having trouble coping with the end of this series. IS THIS REALLY WHERE WE ARE?
Ok third time trying to reply to you. You’re not too dumbed down. I read at least three articles last week that vividly described Grey Worms death. And then several others about how he was still alive. Obviously, the latter was correct. We too felt we “had” to watch. Anyone who needs psychiatric help because this show is over really needs to get help. For probably a whole lot of reasons.
I don’t think that anything could have lived up to all the hype.
I thought it the season was great. GOT was great & I’ll miss it. Some people will never be happy with whatever the writers could come up with. I was really happy to see Pod finally get to be kings guard
It was sad to watch Dany change from liberator into a tyrant, but I guess she made good on her promise of “Fire and Blood”. RIP Queen of the Ashes. Tyrion is a slippery little snake imo. Like Varys and Little Finger before him, he is always there suckling at the teet of power and would just as easily stab someone in the back as shake their hand. He should have been made to go North the same as Jon. On a positive, it was nice to see Sansa, Brienne, Davos Yara, Sam, Pod and Bronn get good endings. They
I too was left wanting from this frankly lacklustre season and would have loved a longer episode count and better rounded plotlines in parts but I think the criticism (as well as the praise) recieved this season should stand testament to how enthralled people became with the colourful characters and vibrant world created by the actors and actresses who made what will always be one of my favourite shows.
Thanks for this thread Tamara. I enjoyed reading all your viewpoints.
I’ve watched since season 1, but this last season felt rushed but dragged on forever at the same time. I’m left deflated.
After finding out that the last 2 or 3 seasons were not based on the book, it makes sense that nothing fits. They rushed the ending, why? I’m not sure why it had to end..HBO loved the series.GRM has 2 more books coming out, so I hope we get some spin off. Such a crappy end to evil Cersei, I wanted Them on dragons scrapping it out. Lol.. It was heartbreaking to see Kit Harrington’s reaction to the final scene, was truly sad.. He had not read the script until that table read, we all felt that way Jon Snow!
Thanks Tamara
