Happy almost end of the week everyone! It’s time for a Project Runway Recap. The lovely Les and I are just trying to keep the wheels on the bus before school ends. It’s exam week. Last week my son told the head of the design department at his school his design class was “pointless.” Let’s just say we are ready for the end of the school year.
We begin this Project Runway Recap where we left off last episode. Tessa is in tears over Lela leaving. They are all exhausted and emotional. Sooooooo….let’s immediately throw another challenge at them! Christian comes in and ushers them back to the stage. Karlie and Elaine head onto the runway wearing statement t-shirts. Then A LOT of people come on the runway wearing statement slogan t-shirts.
The Challenge
The designers have to pick a cause they care about and turn it into a statement look. Les thinks the more open designers, like Hester, always have a leg up on these challenges. The designers who don’t usually share a lot about themselves may be in the hot seat. The designers have two days and $250. Elaine is going to help them. This is an area where Elaine shines, as she took Teen Vogue and turned it into an incredible platform for modern activism.

The Personal Stories
Y’all PLEASE. I BEG OF YOU. PLEASE DO NO SHARE YOUR PERSONAL TRAGEDIES IN COMMENTS. It’s not that I do not love and care about you. It’s just I’ve had full on daily panic attacks to the point of thinking I may need to to go the ER for over a week now. This all started with a post and a string of comments in another post about everyone’s personal traumas. Please. I beg of you. Don’t turn comments into a group therapy session. It’s not because I don’t love you. It’s because I do. Oh and SHUT THE FUCK UP. THIS EDIT NEVER HAPPENED. WE SHALL NOT SPEAK OF IT. JUST TALK ABOUT THE GODDAMN EPISODE YOU MORONS! xo ~tt
In the workroom everyone. contemplates what matters the most to them. Jamall is emotional thinking about his brother. When Jamal’s father passed away he was removed from the household and grew up with his grandparents. His brother didn’t make it out of the situation well and wound up in prison. Jamall’s cause is Black Lives Matter and the undoing of the stereotypes surrounding young black males. He is going to do a elegant puffer gown as the puffy jacket is “sort of like armor” in the black community. Elaine loves the idea.

Tessa is doing a black dress honoring women’s rights and highlighting sexual, physical and mental abuse. She says every woman she knows has faced one or all of those things. She doesn’t like to share a lot and get personal but this means a lot to her. Elaine loves her idea of creating a woman’s figure on a dress with a boxy element. Women breaking out of boxes we are so often shoved into so to speak. I text Les that as much as Tessa can annoy me I forget how young she is. How young all of them are.
To Bee Or Not To Bee?
Hester is doing a faux-fur coat celebrating LGBT marriage equality. She says she didn’t come out until her late 20’s. She dated men because “it seemed like the thing to do” until she met her now wife, Honey T. Honey brought out all the things Hester had been waiting to express. She wants to help start an LGBT center for youth in Santa Fe. Elaine makes her promise she won’t veer off track. Hester protests that her turkey jacket was at least well made. Let’s not ever speak of the turkey again Hester.
Garo wants to save the bees. He knows it sounds trivial but no pollinators=no food. I love this cause. We don’t spray our yard for mosquitoes or use Round-Up at our house because it kills pollinators. Elaine doesn’t know a lot about the cause she just doesn’t want him to do a bee costume. And who knew city boy Garo has a place upstate where he gardens? Huh!

Venny explains his ideas regarding the stereotypes of people of color. He had a co-worker he would talk to on the phone and when she finally met him she told him that he sounded so proper on the phone she thought he was white. Lovely. That happened to a friend of mine in freaking CT. A woman told her at a cocktail party that her husband (who is black) was so “well spoken”. Casual racism. The mind boggles. He’s doing a puffer coat with a hoodie over a elegant dress. What you see on the outside vs what is going on on the inside.
The Faces of Youth
Bishme wants to help the youth in Baltimore. He has volunteered at the design center there for the past two years teaching young kids. Elaine loves his concept but makes him promise his elegant cocktail dress will somehow convey what he’s trying to promote.
Sebastian has gone through several racist experiences since coming to the US. He was told by a clothing store owner to get out because he wouldn’t hire Latinos. Elaine tells him to be vulnerable and starts to say “For every kid in Columbia who is watching you…for every gay kid…..” and Sebastian starts to tear up. She tells him it’s okay to cry and be vulnerable, the best design comes from the heart not the head. Jeez this is intense.

Not In The Mood…
At Mood they get 45 minutes to shop instead of their normal half hour. Venny is grabbing net fabric for both his jacket and dress. I text Les that I’m worried about Venny’s look going cheap again because of fabric choices. Bishme knows when he has too many options he gets in trouble. There is a hilarious moment when he shares his whole inner monologue with a Mood employee. Garo is going for yellow neon. He’s making a corset dress. Shocker. Hester has bought a LOT of tulle. Sebastian is trying to get skin tone colors to represent the beauty of the entire human race in his column dress.
The Work Room
Les notes the amount of puffers being made. Jamall explains the significance of the puffer to Sebastian. Sebastian is doing his graduated skin tone element with layers of fabric. He is worried he doesn’t have enough. Tessa helps out by telling him to use the pale fabric as well while pointing to her own face. He asks if she wants to be on his dress. Sweet moment. Everyone is slap happy. Hester has created A LOT of work for herself. It’s an important challenge for her as she wants everyone out there to know that it’s okay to let your freak flag fly. Throw some glitter on it!
NEED MORE PROJECT RUNWAY RECAPS? WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED!
Christian Saves the Day…..Again
Speaking of throwing some glitter on it, Christian points out that Bishme’s elegant dress has nothing to do with his cause. Les texts: YIKES. Christian tells him to add some fun elements to it instead of pulling way back. Christian thinks Venny’s idea is powerful, he just hopes it comes across in the actual garments. He also tells him to get going on the jacket as it is the most important part.
Les thinks that some of the designers are not going to be able to disconnect from their style which could hurt the representation of their cause. Christian is worried about Jamall’s time management. Jamall is worried about Jamall’s time management. Tessa explains how she’s not going safe. Christian thinks all the details she doing on the dress will be fabulous if they work. Christian is worried Garo is doing the same look again and again. Garo knows he’s right. Christian tells him to pollinate on it. Christian tells Sebastian to use more tones because “we all want to be in there”.
NEED MORE PROJECT RUNWAY RECAPS? WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED!

We Are NOT Going To Mexico?
Christian asks the designers to congregate as he has news. Everyone is terrified. Bishme asks if they are going to Mexico. Nope. They are going to have to dress a second model in the challenge. Everyone is despondent and Bishme says “So we are not going to Mexico?” The second model is……the designers! They have to make a statement T-Shirt reflecting their cause. The shirts will be made by 19th amendment and sold on bravotv.com. The proceeds with be donated to a charity that supports their cause. Everyone is relieved and happy. Les and I agree that this is a lovely idea. The designers will also have to walk the runway.
The designers meet with graphic designers for their t-shirts and then go back to edit after the critique. Bishme has decided to use purple sequined fabric to do faces on his dress. The models arrive and Les points out that whoever gets which model doesn’t seem like a big deal anymore.
Blind Melon
Christian is very concerned about Garo’s look. There’s not a lot there, and what IS there looks like a bee costume. I keep thinking of the bee girl in the Blind Melon video. Christian says it needs something else. Tessa hopes her model feels powerful in her dress. Venny is overdoing it. Bishme does his walk for Tessa. Hester is telling Sebastian his dress is beautiful. Again, love it when everyone is being nice and getting along. Hester is worried she’s veering in the wrong direction.
NEED MORE PROJECT RUNWAY RECAPS? WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED!

Runway Day Panic
Christian arrives with the T-Shirts . They have to take a selfie with their model for the runway. Venny has no hood for his hoodie. He knows he’s screwed, but he’s just trying to get through it. This is certainly a pattern with Venny. Jamall’s model is stuffing her dress. Hester is reassured by Christian that her look is good, but she’s not buying it. She’s worried it going to read craft store instead of high fashion. Garo is not getting his extra element on the dress. Venny sewed his zipper in incorrectly and the model can’t take the jacket off. The whole point of his look was to have a hoodie which now has no hood and a reveal, which now can’t happen. Oh Venny. Only Garo’s bee costume can save you now. This is looking very Torrid.
Walk The Walk
Karlie Kloss comes out on the runway and Les thinks she looks like she’s wearing a 50’s poodle-esque ensemble. Aurora James, the creative director and founder of Brother Vellies is the guest judge. Brother Vellies is a company that does sustainable fashion while supporting local communities and workers mostly in Africa. It’s an amazing company doing great things. Check them out.
Les doesn’t think Sebastian went far enough with his look but his T-shirt is awesome. I think this is one of those looks that probably looks insane in person. I love the skin-tone ombre effect he created.
Les texts that Venny didn’t get his statement across at all in this look. She thinks it’s a hot mess. I like his t-shirt, but I think Venny is finally going to go home.
From Les: This just sucks. It’s a dominatrix bee costume. I like his shirt?
NEED MORE PROJECT RUNWAY RECAPS? WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED!

You Bettah WERK
Les thinks Bishme’s look is a total miss. I don’t love it, but as you all know I have a ruffle allergy. I like the faces on the dress. It’s just so purple. And ruffle-y Love the T-shirt
Les thinks that Hester needs to open a new age Hello Kitty store. I’m getting 80’s Betsey Johnson. Love the font and flowers on the T-shirt
Les wonders if Jamall’s story is clearly heard? But she thinks Elaine is definitely behind it and the judges are biased.
Okay, don’t hate me, but this is a Moncler gown. It is like that time way back when Kenley Collins did a dress that looked a LOT like an Alexander McQueen. She had never even looked at a McQueen show, but there it was.
Michael Kors chastised her for not knowing other designers. If you google Moncler gown, this EXACT dress will pop up. It’s awesome and I love Jamall, but he needs to see it. T-shirt is meh.
NEED MORE PROJECT RUNWAY RECAPS? WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED!
Werk It Gurl!
Les thinks Tessa Rocked it. I think this is definitely bold and certainly not safe.
Les picks Bishme, Garo and Venny for the bottom with Garo to go. Her top three are Hester, Tessa and Sebastian with Tessa to win. I pick Venny or Garo to go. I pick Jamall, Tessa and Sebastian for the top with Sebastian to win. For the message, the garment AND the T-shirt.
Judging You
When Sebastian explains how he layered the fabric, Brandon butts in and says it’s not the same fabric, then Nina cuts him off and says yes it IS- he created the tone by layering it. Pretty amazing. Elaine thinks his DNA concept is very smart. Karlie asks if it was difficult for him to do this challenge. He says he usually uses fashion to create fantasy. So, to tap into something personal was challenging. Nina thinks it is beautiful and impressive.
Elaine thinks Venny’s message got muddled in the delivery. Nina tells him she’s seen him on the top and bottom, but this look has a problem with proportion. He has hidden his model. Venny starts to cry. Aurora tells him her heart is breaking for him as she knows this is so much more than a jacket. He will nail it another time, he just needs to keep working from his heart.
Brandon tells Garo Sparo that the exaggerated shoulder and hemline of the dress makes the look costumey. Nina tells him he’s here because he’s technically very good, but at some point he needs to step up or he’s not going to make it. Ouch.
Let’s FaceTime
Aurora loves Bishme’s dress. She has an emotional connection to it and wants to wear it. Nina loves the shoulder aspect and the ruffles. She also loves the connection of the faces to the t-shirt. She thinks the connection and the message is very clear.
Hester breaks down on runway. She wanted more time because this means so much to her. Elaine loves the message and how she made a faux fur tulle rainbow coat celebrating who she is. Brandon says that some young kid is going to turn on the TV and see somebody like themselves and that is more important than ANYTHING else. Nina got the message and the look is full of positivity.
Elaine loves the edge Jamall incorporated into the styling. Karlie loves that he took a decidedly non-royal fabric and made a beautiful gown. Brandon thinks he did a good job.
Say What?
Nina loves that Tessa kept to her minimal aesthetic but that there was a reveal. She calls it very beautiful. Aurora doesn’t get the message. Why is there a need to cover a woman’s body? What is she saying by having it be open? Now Tessa is crying. She explains her story. Elaine tells her she is brave and that she showed her a piece of herself on her own terms.
This was an emotional roller coaster. Les and I are both shocked Bishme gets the win. Les wants to know if Elaine has the final decision. I think Sebastian was ROBBED. I’m VERY happy Nina BROUGHT UP MONCLER. Garo gets a pass and Venny is sent packing. Everyone cries.
I have to say, I hope next week is light and fluffy. We need a little light and fluffy right now. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!! See you next week for another Project Runway Recap! XOXOXO CJ and Les
PLEASE KEEP COMMENTS RELATED TO THE RECAP AND SHOW AND NOT YOUR PERSONAL TRAUMA! THANKS! xo~tt #HappyPlace
Awesome recap! Ok just my humble opinion because y’all are the experts but Sebastian should have won. It was beautiful. And fantastic and the skin tones … ❤️
And Hester is/was forever 21. I can’t understand the love for her designs. I just don’t see cool or high fashion.
Am I out of touch?
I am also apparently out of touch. I guess I am that much older and maybe my lesbian friends are as well, because not a one of them would wear any of her stuff. This doesn’t make wrong If it “sparks joy” in people who love it. I’m not getting any of the commented hats.. rather weary of the schtick with Hester, but, again, she does have her own sense of style and that is preferable to some of the designers on some seasons of PR, where they just look, um, Unfashionable with no sense of style. I really don’t get all the tulle. I don’t enjoy wearing irritating stuff like that. I have a lovely Vera Wang top (Kohl’s) that is sleeveless and only later realized that it was simply annoying to wear. Seems to me the tulle would be scratchy.
I thought Sebastian should win and I appreciated Tessa’s statement and I could see how nervous Tessa was about walking the runway, but she did it! I actually liked her and was sorry she was just dismissed as safe.
The Bee issue is so important. I was thinking and thinking how he could have made a statement without making a Bee dominatrix outfit.
Maybe flowers or plants with some way to show bees and lack of bees?
I have read about the huge losses in the bee population and it is really a worry.
Thanks for the awesome recap!!
I stopped reading at VERA WANG in KOHL’S? IS THIS A REAL THING?
I mean I’m not a fashionista, but can I get a Birkin Bag at Target now? OMG could you imagine? The rich folks would have to start all over. lol.
Vera Wang at Kohl’s and Target periodically has collections from top designers.
It’s Vera Wang but a cheaper line of Vera Wang. Still pretty though
Yes, Simply Vera, Vera Wang.. I have a lot, but nothing recent. The top in question had sequins, which I managed to leave out above, and those were irritating and thus I have not worn the top. But I wear her jeans, a few of her earrings, I think I did have a purse, tops, jackets. No shoes.. all I wear is Skechers.
She had a Simply Breathe line of yoga wear that I adored but discontinued that. I wear the heck out of those. Also leggings and maybe even socks. Her faux leather leggings are fun.
And her stuff, which of course you get when you have a 30% off at Kohl’s, is not as expensive as lots of clothing I don’t buy that I see from Nordstrom
Definitely not her designer line.
I am SO GLAD you put that shot of Hester at the top, because I thought I was going crazy when I read her beret as saying “Plz Die” on the runway during judging. In the next shot, still on the runway, it said “Cutie Pie” again. So weird. I was worried some demon was taking over my vision.
It did say “Plz Die.” It has both sayings and can be flipped to show either one. Personally, I think having “PLZ DIE” when she is supposed to be championing an LGBT cause, when the suicide rate of LGBT kids is so high is absolutely disgusting. I hope she is removed soon.
OMG! My husband and I were totally wondering how she can wear a hat that reads “Plz Die” while championing gay youth. Really, really out of touch.
Plz Die and GDIAF (go die in a fire) etc are Internet phrases that basically mean you’re annoying. As amazing as it may seem, gay people are also allowed to use the terms.
I don’t watch this show to be preached to about social issues – totally turned me off
Who was preaching? The were asked to create a look for a cause they care about.
This show takes me to my happy place. I love the way the contestants interact with each other. I think the judges are fair and their criticism, constructive. And for me Christian is everything. Just pure joy to watch this season. Thanks for recapping.
Yes I agree. Sebastian should have won. Wasn’t it nice to see Swatch the dog back. I have missed him terribly.
I looked up the Moncler gown. The Moncler gown had horizontal quilting. Bishmé’s gown with its vertical quilting was much better looking. And Sebastian’s gown was beautiful and I loved the DNA Tshirt.
I thought AURORA was incredibly rude and judgmental to Tessa. I’m glad Tessa was able to explain the meaning of her dress. I didn’t really care for it at first but once she explained it I thought it was amazing
As someone who has spent the last decade of her life or so talking about reality TV. The second Tessa said she didn’t want to talk about it, I know it was scripted. So of course someone asked her about it, So it wasn’t the judges fault.
That said I in no way mean to diminish her trauma and had a lot of sympathy for her and see her in a whole new light now. In fact I sort of feel like a hypocrite for calling out her bitchness. Because we have a lot in common. It’s true sometimes what you hate in others is what you hate about yourself. Or something.
I agree, Lisa. The guest judge decided it was some kind of commentary on body image, and missed the theme. I’m not surprised Tessa felt a little goaded into going into it. I hope the judge felt like crap.
I think I said this before in a comment that I didn’t post properly, but I was so glad to see the photo at the top of the recap, with Hester’s beret. On the runway I read “Plz Die” and in the next shot (still on the runway) the beret switched to “Cutie Pie,” and I thought I was seeing things. Must be reversible!
Hester sells the berets. I want the PLZ DIE one but even I may be too shy to wear it.
Once again, I am going to remind you all that I’m the fat bitch who gave up decades ago on caring about fashion and most everything else. CJ and Les are the fashionistas. I just spend hours of my life trying to get this post up each week BECAUSE IT IS A LONG AS HELL RECAP because NINETY MINUTES SHOW. And I feel like the one thing CJ and I know for sure is THANK GOD THERE ARE ONLY A FEW PEOPLE LEFT. And I adore CJ. She’s one of the nicest people I kinda know.
Now that all of that is out of the way. Bishme was the CLEAR winner. By miles. I love Sebastian. If I was a thousand decades younger, I’d be the surrogate for his gaybies. I loved his look. It was beautiful. It was kind of Christian to suggest he include white people in his look. But there are black people in the world. Now you can identify with your race using whatever language you would like, but a lot of black people have become brown people in my long, long, long, life lived both in Africa and in the south. I was a bit put off that actual BLACK PEOPLE were not included in the DNA. Again, love Sebastian. The dress was gorgeous. It’s just a problem for me.
Regarding the bottom two. I think Garo Sparo will win this whole damn thing despite the pulled heartstrings and high level of skill Sebastian has. We need Sebastian to be a designer and be the immigrant who went from scrubbing toilets to having it all and I believe that will happen for him.
But the second I heard Garo Sparo mentioned on the damn Met Ball red carpet, I knew he would win. I’m just saying. And this is not a spoiler. I have no source for this. I’m just saying. MET FUCKING BALL.
Oh wait. I had more to say about Bishme’s look. His look and his t-shirt were the most tied in. I am a stickler for following the challenge. He took the curve ball, worked the look into his dress and the t-shirt and it was awesome.
AND ANOTHER THING. I didn’t think Garo Sparo’s dress was a costume. It was extremely well made. I was however way too short. And not his best work.
AND A THIRD THING. I was in online shopping mode last night and wanted a Save the Bees t-shirt. I have a thing about t-shirts. I love the ones I love and hate the rest. It’s all about the neckline. I have wanted to see shirt to you guys and ball caps as well but I can’t find a place that makes them FOR WOMEN. They are selling men’s t-shirts in womens sizes. Even drunk Tamara with the AMEX in her hand could not go there. I need not to have the neckline up around my throat. I need a nice scoop neck. Or if I must a v-neck. And a cap for a girl should be round not like a man driving a John Deere fucking tractory. And we need a hole for a ponytail. Okay. That is all I think.
Have I mentioned I am not myself lately? Perhaps just ignore me.
AAAAALLLL of this!!! I agree with every word! Thanks for another great recap. This show is refreshing because everyone is decent with each other, they are all cool people. Love them all. I want to give Jamal a big hug, he just seems like he needs one. And a visit from the tickle monster. Lol. I wanna see him relax and enjoy himself.
If there is a T-shirt you like, buy the men’s and cut off the ribbed neck. Either leave it as is (ala Tessa!) or hem it. If you REALLY like it, get it a size or two bigger and bring it to a cheapie alterations place (maybe dry cleaner as opposed to a full-on tailor) and have them match it to a kit shirt you provide. If you sew, it is a cinch to do it.
Luv u Nanette! But that’s ALOT! Why can’t we just have what looks good on us girls too without all the extra steps?
The “cause” T-shirts come in WOMEN’S sizes! They didn’t show up for me before. And ALL of the stuff for sale is shown on thin and curvy models!
Yes but they are mens t-shirts. With Crew necks. no thank you.
Cafepress has a women’s V-neck shirt in several colors, @-3XL that has a collage of quotes from earlier seasons, including Make it work, of course.
I agree with TT. I was so surprised when Tessa pointed out white in the color of her face that Sebastian didn’t say oh! and Black???? I think that is why deep down I could not come around to saying he was the winner of the challenge.
I think Venny should have gone home instead of Sonia or Lela. (After Sonia was so cuntly last week, I was glad she was gone.) He has been on the bottom a few times and slipped by. I didn’t hate Garo’s as much as everyone else, but there is NO WAY you can see black and yellow and not think “bumblebee.” He could have used some gorgeous flower print, that would have been a change for him. Those round metal eyelets look so cheap; I wish he would use an alternative. I agree Bishme married the two parts of the challenge the best; but so did Sebastian. Nina ~ Sebastion : Elaine ~ Bishme. I wish they were going to Mexico! Or Disneyland.
ONE MORE THING: Tamara, I entreat thee to get your beautiful brilliant self to the health foos store or the dispensary and get some CBD oil ASAP. It works! For anxiety, pain, PTSD. It seems too good to be true, but it WORKS. If you can handle THC (I cannot), my pals say the gummies with CBD and THC are THE BEST.
Always love the recaps. I’m a bit late again because it didn’t record and I had to do onDemand. Thanks to CJ Bomb, Les, and Tamara. Listening to the back stories this week was good, and mind opening. I kind of have Elaine’s haircut at the moment and am struggling with going natural with that cut.
Read before I watched. Sebastian keeps getting robbed, but that model Bishme had always rocks anything she wears. If this was America’s Next Top Model, we’d have a winner.
Again, loved Christian.
OMG YES! Bishme’s model is EVERY THING,
Thanks, CJ and Les and TT for an awesomely-detailed and very enjoyable re-cap! You guys are the BEST things in my life right now!
Sebastian was robbed! That dress was spectacular! I liked Bishme’s purple dress, and I love, love, love his model– she is so gorgeous and elegant. But I did not like the faces on the dress, and I did NOT like the eyelashes. I couldn’t get past it. Yes, Bishme probably came the closest to achieving the requirements of the challenge. It’s a super pet-peeve of mine when the designers ignore the parameters of the challenge, and the judges just blow it off! But Sebastian’s dress was just too good. He deserved the win.
Venny’s tears tugged at my little black heart. He deserved to go home, but I wanted to hug him.
I want all the designers to be my best friends, they are so lovable! I’d include Christian, but he’d intimidate me. He’s so quick. His comments are on point without badgering or belittling.
Tessa had the full figure model and it seems like they have established a rapport. It’s good to see. Not a fan of Hesters aesthetic, but I liked the jacket, just not the rest of the outfit. I can’t see Hesters clothes working on anyone over 30.
My favorites were Bishme, Sebastian and Tessa. Sebastian created a beautiful dress similar to ones he’s done in the past. The t-shirt and message were terrific. I think Bishme has grown the most as a designer. Loved his t-shirt and the dress. Tessa made her aesthetic work.
I loved Bishme’s look, thought it should have won, but I do love some ruffles, and the way the model marched (strutted?) down the runway with the ruffles floofing along the way was everything. The detail was pretty, sparkly and subtle. I loved Sebastian’s dress as well, and a great concept, but he said, everyone’s DNA is the same, and really everyone’s DNA is different! I wish he had come up with a better caption because, Science. Tessa definitely picked up her game, and I am over Hester. I kept thinking of how you can make a yellow and black dress classy and not costumey. Definitely with the dress he made, a different hemline would have been better, and I love the idea of doing something with flowers, as Nanette said. Great recap! This is the first time I have been into this series, and I am really enjoying it.
Ha ha – thank you. I loved Sebastian’s dress, his idea, the brilliant way he constructed it, and his t-shirt, but I was noting too that technically, our DNA is not the same. In fact, if your skin color differs, then that is one of many places where your DNA does not match. Loved it though, and wish it had won.
This is a great season! I didn’t have a chance to comment on the Elton John challenge, but I loved that one and this one. It will be fun to see the movie and look for the costumes we saw on PR.
Literally came here to comment that while I loved Sebastian’s dress, he left out the really ebony toned black women like Lupita N’yongo. Colorism is a thing, Sebastian! So totally on your wavelength, TT. I think he meant that we all have human DNA Ingrid, which is something some people would try to deny. Blood banks used to be racially segregated.
I loved Hester’s jacket and I could totally see a young person (or Betsey Johnson) rocking it at a Pride somewhere. Loved the idea of a “faux fur” where it is obvious it isn’t fur too.
I don’t condone putting any judgement on Sebastian. It was clear to me that Sebastian wanted to do a piece that was inclusive of everyone. That said, he failed to do so. It was a bit ironic. But I think his cause and nis heart are in the right place. Colorism is a separate issue within the black race. Whereas racism is between races. It was clear to me that Sebastian’s intent was to be inclusive of all hues in the one race that matters. The human race. I was just suprised that Tessa had to point out that there are also white people. And that no one, including Christian suggested that he include the darkest end of the spectrum. That’s all.
I think Hester worked for Betsey at some point. She’s worked with some big names in her past. So her self-doubting story line is starting to wear thing. She has a clear brand. It’s not for everyone. I just want her to own it. But also, I need her to to be a designer who can make clothes for everyone.
I think Renee Hill going home was a travesty that I am still not over.
No judgement intended on Sebastian. Probably didn’t make that clear. I LOVED the technique of creating those hues. I only bring up colorism in that it is the darkest complected that often get overlooked. Surprised that no one mentioned it too.
As far as Renee goes, and some of the others who have been booted, I think this season more than any other I’m realizing that there are highly skilled, imaginative designers who have been booted because the structure of the show and the restrictions it puts on their specific creative process just isn’t for them.
What upset me most about Renee going home was the WAY it happened. Nina commented on Renee only tanking in group challenges. The judges seemed set to send Venny home, then Marnie tweaked the dress straps and they all “ahhed.” Next thing we knew, Renee got axed. And Venny slid through two MORE bottom three before going home on his fourth bottom in a row.
He was not on the bottom 4 times in a row. get your facts straight
Is this really what you want your first comment here to be? The Project Runway comments are sort of refugee from the nastiness…IJS.
Oops. He was on the bottom the last THREE challenges, he had a HIGH score the week before and was low the week before that. So … he was on the bottom FOURtimes. In the top a few too. But the judges sound like he is going home … then not. One of the past contestants said the judging process lasts SEVERAL HOURS. We get the edited version, but the judges must do a lot of back and forth in there. And, as a person, I ADORE Venny.
Yes I love Venny too and will miss him. But Why do they keep referring to him as an accountant? Trying to conjure images of him slaving away in a soul crushing day job then staying up all night sewing away? Are we supposed to feel sorry for him? My understanding is that the accounting he’s doing is in fact running his brand Levity. The housecleaning thing with Sebastian is equally annoying.
