On season eight of MAFS, the experts chose to have four couples instead of the usual three. They claimed on the show that they just could not possible keep any of the four perfectly matched couples from being on the show. The “fourth couple” was Luke Cuccurullo and Kate Sisk.
That was a lie. Very early on someone tried to post some spoilers and insider information on the show. I don’t allow spoilers on these sorts of shows. I am pretty sure I deleted the post. Or maybe not. Because I remember responding to part of the comment about Luke Cuccurullo and Kate Sisk being a late addition and Luke being added at the last minute because Kate’s actual match backed out at the last minute.
Bullshit said me. If that were true, they already had three couples. That is the usual number. Why push a fourth couple through that wasn’t a match? That would likely end in disaster! They would never do that. They want the couples to stay together, right?
It seems now that was true. They did just throw Kate to the wolves with Luke. And it did end in disaster.
Well, now there is more evidence, or perhaps it is the same person saying it on Reddit with even more information.
How Could MAFS Not Know?
All of you speculating that Luke is gay are correct. A friend of mine works for the show and recently gave me some insight into the situation. Shortly after decision day Kate and her friends found a second Facebook profile of Luke’s where he was listed as being in a relationship with another guy. She confronted the producers asking how they could have possibly overlooked that while matching them… they said they had no idea about the other profile. *face palm* Then while filming the reunion episode, Luke’s sexuality got brought up and he got so frustrated with the questions that he stormed off stage -still wearing his mic-, locked himself in a room and called someone sobbing saying “They know. They know I’m gay.”
Lifetime most likely won’t air this because of privacy and permission issues, as well as not really being in line with their content. But the situation is so fucked up and sad on so many levels… on one hand it’s heartbreaking that he felt like he had to go through with something like this but on the other, it’s heartless to put someone like Kate through it all for your own benefit. I also found out that Kate was originally matched with a different guy, a doctor, but he withdrew from the show last minute and Luke was next in line.
What Will We Actually See On The Reunion?
These reunion shows are never filmed “three months later” as they say but generally only a few weeks later. Very little has ever had time to change that much. They just gives them some time off camera for everyone’s mask to drop. And in this case for Kate Sisk to find out the real reason that Luke Cuccurullo was not attracted to her.
During that time Kate was apparently shown all the Facebook stuff on Luke that was floating around. There were Facebook accounts with Luke listed as in a relationship with another man. There were lots of photos of Luke from previous years where he seemed, um… well he seemed to be out and proud and enjoying his life.
Does Kate Sisk Have A Lawsuit?
It certainly seems that MAFS put a gay man on a show about heterosexuals marrying at first sight. It’s becoming increasing clear they don’t vet these people very well. On season seven, of MAFS, Mia was arrested while trying to board a plane for her honeymoon with new husband Tristan. Mia was wanted for stalking an ex. There seems to be a problematic person on each season. And one of the “experts,” Dr. Jessica Griffin, hooked up with the husband of one of the problem people . She was/is dating Jon Francetic one of the guys from season six of MAFS. (Edited because it was Molly that was the shitperson, not her husband Jon. Ooops)
To all the people screaming for a lawsuit against Lifetime or MAFS, reality show contracts are air tight. They all sign their lives away to be on the show. The terms of the contracts are insane and completely cover the network and the production company. That said, she can certainly challenge the contract in court. And the Network may pay her off to avoid the court costs.
The MAFS reunion airs Tuesday April 9th at 9 pm on Lifetime. We will see what they actually show about the Luke Cuccurullo and Kate Sisk situation. MAFS returns this summer on Wednesday nights and will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina.
