Hey, y’all. It’s TT! I am subbing in for CJ Bomb today for Project Runway All Stars as she has a very busy work week and is traveling. She gave me the heads up early and I set my DVR to tape the episode. I checked to make sure it was taping and then, it just didn’t. So, I did caught the last hour of the rerun (do we really need 90 minutes of this fiasco?) but I was too exhausted to recap.
I am watching the show from the beginning now on Demand, but I think I am going to just hit the highlights and skip to the chase. Because, All Stars.
This week’s challenge is called Modern Families. Each designer was given a family of three to style for the Runway. They have two days to style them. The families will walk the runway and take a “Modern Families” type photo.

Anne Fulenwider Disrupts The Workroom
Irina Shabayeva is doing several pieces for her boy. Because he is adorable. She is doing a pencil skirt as the request of one of her models. Anne Fulenwider says doing multiple garments may be a bit much. What is Irina supposed to do send them all down in a shift dress? She also tells her to be sure to be true to her vision and be sure her style is represented because the judges won’t know at first what the families asked for.
Evan Biddell is being Evan. He has lots a ton of fabric and not few ideas. Anne tells Evan that the judges really don’t care if the models are comfortable. She also worries that there is no cohesion. How very Tim Gunn of her.
Anne tells Michelle that her looks don’t look like they are going to the same place.
Evan is surprised that Dmitry is still in the challenge. Anne says he really needs a wow moment and she is not seeing it. Anne tells everyone one more time that the judges are judges on the clothes, not how happen the family is with the looks. That is not completely true. But that’s Anne Fulenwider.

Now My Competition Is Happy Grandma And Cute Kid
The families are all pretty adorable.
The final four trash everyone else’s looks. Michelle Lesniak and Evan Biddell trash Irina and Dmitry Sholokhov and vice versa. They both think one of the other two is going home. And they have personal preferences about who should go. Irina Shabayeva says that Michelle’s grandma looks like a clown. It’s kind of true because Michelle has once again selected odd prints. I get that she loves prints. That’s great. It’s just that her taste in prints is… bad different. The clown insult would better fit Evan Biddell, except the clownish look is for the younger ones and it works. Evan Biddell hates Dmitry’s looks, also for good reason. He says they look like old men. Irina says that Michelle’s grandma’s look is scary. Dmitry says Irina’s little boy’s look is cute but it’s not fashion.

The Runway Feedback
The judges complain about lack of cohesion. They love Irina’s little boy looks. One of the judges told Irina it looks like a step back for Irina. That little boy will be hired immediately to model. He walks like he has been working the runway for years. Maybe he has.
Dmitry should go home for his looks. They are all horrible. The black dress is okay if you were going to a party in Mexico City. Maybe my mind is just on Mexican Dynasties because I haven’t gotten to see it yet. One of the judges asks if he ran out of time. Everything they call out, Dmitry defends as if it is a work of art. Aylssa Milano says even though it all looks like crap on the runway, the Modern Family photo is really cute.
The Good News is You Get To Keep The Clothes!
Evan Biddell says he finally got to go sporty without his looks being called “junior.” Isaac Mizrahi says the print is fresh and he loved the socks on the kid. He also loves the bows on the leggings. They love the bossy woman look after she takes off her jacket. His people really strutted the runway and that always helps.
I can’t believe that the judges had anything nice to say about Michelle Lesniak’s looks at all. I do like the coveralls she made for her model Dylan, who is actually the first transgender model on Project Runway, not the one from the new Bravo season. After each critique Alyssa MIlano says, “the good news is you get to keep the clothes!” as if they had just been given new cars by Oprah Winfrey. WTF else would they do with the clothes?
A Not So Shocking Twist
Evan Biddell won and I think that was a great choice. Dmitry and Michelle were both on the bottom. In the end the judges decided to send all four to the finale. Despite all of their competitive snark, in the end they were all glad to be going to the finale together. The editing seems to foreshadow an Irina win and I am pulling for her.
I am not sure if CJBomb will be able to do Project Runway tonight or not. It’s two hour show with 15 designers. That takes hours of work. I don’t see her having the time. Later today I’ll check with CJ and if she isn’t able to “make it work” this week, I will put up a post for you guys to discuss it. I will not be participating in the Project Runway Bravo shows any further this season or making any further comments or reading any further comments. Please do not inquire about my decision here, as those comments will be removed. This post is about All Stars.
Back in the day, they used to auction off the clothes, like an organized auction right after the episode ended. This lasted for several seasons. I remember them topping four figures. I always thought it would be so cool to have one, and I lost an auction for an outfit that sent someone home for like $100.
I was disappointed with Dmitry this season and , except for the black dress, I am still disappointed . His other 2 outfits were ill fitting or boring. The male looked like he made pizzas on Staten island. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I also hated Irinas pencil skirt outfit which just seemed too big on top, too tight on the bottom. The boys outfit was perfect, stylish and well made.
I did like the girls outfit of Michelle. Usually her patterns make me smell patchouli. Biddell deserved the win. Loved each outfit , although I wouldn’t miss the bows.
I loved Biddel’s young lady’s look! Weirdly, earlier today I watched “Tales from the Royal Wardrobe”, Queen Elizabeth the 1st had a dress with a lot of those little bows all over it.
Thank you TT.
Thanks for recapping this TT. Seems that Anne Fulenwider would rather be having a root canal than be on this show. She’s just not into it. The black skirt Irina made was way too tight and it really wasn’t a good look. Her head wasn’t into this challenge. Not sure what’s gotten into Dimitri this season but his stuff looks so dowdy. Michele’s prints are getting a bit too much. Do people wear this much print in Portland? That black jumpsuit looked like a garage mechanic could wear it. It aged the kid. Bidell actually deserved the win for the bows alone. At least he did something colorful and happy. Didn’t like this challenge. Feel bad for Irina having to finish up knowing her Mom is not doing well at all. Can’t wait for this season to be over but I am compelled to finish watching.
Irina is such a terrible person. She wasn’t as bad at the beginning of this season, but she was certainly showing her full colors this episode. I’m sorry about her mom. But she seems to think that everyone needs to respond to things the way she does. She was just so nasty. I can’t root for her to win, she’s too awful. I’m rooting for Dimitri, probably, even though I didn’t love his stuff this episode.
Alyssa must have upset the lighting guy and cameraman…..every shot of her was unflattering.
And we thought she looked the best she had, lol.
I guess I finally gave to let go of my hope that Sunny will he invited back for a second chance.
Sigh. Getting rid of Sunny was the dumbest thing they did on this dumb franchise. He was the only one who had a shot at beating Irina.
I loved the families.
Anne was giving some bad advice and THEN they had her judge. that alone makes me okay with all four going through to finals.
How many patterns will Michelle use in her collection? Time will tell!
Alyssa.. a whole season of mostly bad outfits. I remember when she was pregnant an the outfits were not flattering.
I watched re-runs of the season way back when Heidi was pregnant and she looked great. Granted, she is probably taller than Marissa..
Thanks for the recap and the pictures.
I’m so glad all four are going to the finale and Dmitry and Michele weren’t forced into some ridiculous contest.
Biddell deserved the win, but Irina’s boy and Michele’s grandma were darling!
I know I come here and snark on these designers for fun, but it has to be acknowledged that these incredibly talented people made three damned outfits in two days, and had to balance their instincts with client preferences. Amazing.
That said, the judges were right. And Alyssa did look the best she’s looked in all her seasons.
And that’s kind of sad.
This looks like the generic version of PR on Bravo. Production values alone are worlds apart.
I’m surprised that when they do the family or other challenge, (3/22) they don’t tell the families that they’re not designing for them but for each designer to win. Not fair to the families, who are very excited to get new clothes by designers.
