Married At First Sight Recap: You Give Love A Bad Name

March 20, 2019 by tamaratattles 39 Comments

First of all, I need you to all brush your hair and put on some makeup and try to look nice because we have company. The last MAFS recap had thousands and thousands of new viewers. I am not sure how that happened. But we had a LOT of company show up. Hopefully, they will return for this one.

The Mini Moon Continues…

I can already tell this is going to be a good episode because they didn’t even waste the usual three minutes reminding us of all the things we have already seen.

The couples are back at the house after some time on their own and it’s time to make dinner. Will is asleep. Jasmine lets us know that Will sleeps all the time. The men are on dinner duty while the girls play Scrabble. Jasmine wakes Will up and he’s not really happy with the forced participation.

Girl Talk

The girls enjoy some wine after dinner and talk among themselves about their relationships. Jasmine says that she and Will “miss each other sometimes with their points of view.” She says when he is telling his point of view she can’t get her side in. Really? I haven’t noticed this. I see him giving you very clear signals about what he wants and you arguing why what you want is better. Either way, this couple agrees on none of the fundamentals and needs to divorce.

Stephanie says that AJ can be like that too. He doesn’t hide the way he feels and sometimes he will just blow up. Yes, Stephanie, he has anger issues. It doesn’t matter if they were caused by a traumatic brain energy or maybe his mama didn’t hug him enough. The bottom line is the same for you. You need to run far away from that.

Kate says that everything is great with Luke except the attraction thing. Really? Did MAFS just opt not to show us these great parts? Because you seem miserable. Kate does say she is just not sure about the “attraction thing.” She doesn’t want to discuss the sex issue because “it makes her a little bit ashamed.” Oh, Sweetie. Kate says she doesn’t know how long she can be with someone who wants to be attracted to her but isn’t.  My answer? Not another day, another hour, another minute. Gather your belongings and leave now.

Kristine didn’t contribute much to this conversation. At least in the portions we saw. Probably as to not rub salt in their wounds.

Kristine and Keith really like bathtubs and jacuzzis!

Guy Talk

Keith says he and Kristine talk openly about Decision Day. He says that they are talking about things they need and if the other is able to meet those needs. This seems quite mature. I wish he would tell the guys he wants to start having babies right away and Kristine wants to wait until things are more stable both in the marriage and financially.

Will says he has told Jasmine he is 50/50 about the whole thing. That should be enough for a sane person to walk away. But will she?

Luke says he and Kate have not brought the situation up at all. The other guys think that is weird.

Jasmine & Will

Kate & Jasmine Talk Alone

It seems as though these two have discovered they both are married to men who just aren’t that into them. Jasmine tells Kate that they have not been intimate. She says Will is not affectionate. It is not for lack of trying, at least on Jasmine’s part. Kate says that Luke is very affectionate but then he doesn’t want to take it farther. That is not exactly true. Then she tells her the truth. She says she can tell that Luke just feels obligated to have sex with her because they are married. Jasmine says she can related. It sounds like Jasmine is planning to part ways with Will on decision day. Good idea.

The Next Day

Keith and Kristine

Keith has picked up some cooking skills from the other guys. He can’t wait to use them at home to impress Kristine. Awwww.

Keith takes Kristine to one of those champagne glass Jacuzzis in a seedy motel. They talk about decision day. Keith is a definite yes. Not for nothing, Keith has very long feet. I’m just saying.

AJ and Stephanie

These two went to a winery. The sommelier talked about the importance of spending time with those you love. I think both of them will decide to stay married.

Kate

Kate and Luke

Luke and Kate talk about not talking about decision day. Luke says he hasn’t really thought about it. He says it is just another day. Just an arbitrary date. He just wants to make sure they are both sure. Kate says that she reached out to Dr. Pepper for advice on their sexual relationship. She also says she talked to Jasmine about it. When she brings up they were going to keep that private he says he knew she wouldn’t because she didn’t keep it private about the kiss. She said decision day is coming and she needed some advice.

Luke is quietly seething. Kate starts apologizing and is near tears. He just want to leave. When they get in the car and pull away she finally just starts sobbing.

Jasmine and Will

Will says in his talking head falling in love with Jasmine would be a dream come true but he can’t predict the future.

While hiking near the waterfall, these two talk about decision day. Will gives signals that he is probably going to say no.

Luke looks dead inside
Luke and Kate

In The Car With Luke and Kate

Kate says that she can tell that Luke is very angry. He wants to know exactly what she told Dr. Pepper. She says that she told her they had been having sex since the honeymoon. She told her he had been very weird about it. He starts waving his hand around and asks her if she left anything out. If she explained how they got to that point?

When she starts going through how it all happened, he says he would prefer not to have the conversation on camera but if she wants to they can. She says she just wants him to be honest.

He gets angry and wants to turn the tables on Kate and goes back to accusing her of having a drinking problem. Classic deflection. Kate tries to shift the conversation back on track. Kate says when she has nothing to drink the same thing happens. She says he refused to have sex all weekend and multiple times at home. Again, he shifts back to drinking. She eventually just placates him and tells him he is right. He wants to keep chastising her. She puts in headphones and lays down in the car. He fumes and sulks.

That was a long two-hour car ride.

Next Week: It’s the final episode before decision day. Everyone starts having doubts.

I promise I have my hair curled and full makeup—not just lipstick and a little powder. I am all ready for our new friends. Not a sweatpant or legging to be found…thank you so much for getting this recap out so quickly!

At first I thought the hairbrush was a reference to our poor depressed Kate. While her past 6.5 weeks haven’t been normal by any stretch of the imagination, her fall into the pit of despair didn’t take very long. She will not get over this quickly whether or not she has suffered depressive episodes before (says the girl whose doctor told her she can’t ever wean off her meds again). They could totally use her clips for those antidepressant commercials where people cover their faces with masks to pretend to be happy.

Posters from last week were correct. I had not considered the lack of expert interaction with the couples this season. Like choosing 4 couples, I wonder what the reason(s) is/are for the deliberate change. I don’t think laissez-faire has been good for these women in general.

However, I would almost say that Keith and Kristine are thriving; at the very least they both matured and showed the viewers they can be real adults. With a little more guidance than simply being told to use birth control, I really think they could make it for real. They make each other better people. I never expected them to be one of the strongest pairings of the series.

Kate needs to run!!! This is insane.
How did AJ pass the psych test?
I like Will, but find jasmine to be over bearing.
I think Kristine and Keith have a shot. They’re both down to earth.

I’m calling it now: Luke tells Kate he WOULD have wanted to stay married to her IF she had just kept their sex life secret. Thus absolving him of any responsibility and placing it ALL on Kate. What a great guy.

I really hate the “experts” and the powers that be for keeping Kate in such an abusive and manipulative environment. All for the mighty dollar. She deserves and needs a BIG payoff because this experience is going to be with her for a very long time.

In my dream ending Luke stands up to give Kate a final hug…and she knees the shit out of his teeny little balls. I dare him to find a sympathetic judge.

p.s. Being from the Philly burbs I can tell you that was about a 2.5 hour ride home if they didn’t hit traffic or an accident (as if). Again, BIG payoff for Kate.

Ahg! Another week after next? I’m sick of Luke and his manipulating, calculating ass and Kate ventriloquist talking ass. They both make me sick. This season makes me sick. How could the show not know? I know those cameras were rolling at some point while they were having sex.
Will with his guarded ass. Jasmine I initially blamed your ass but follow your 1st mind. He’s not attracted to you. Go!
Stephanie your ass is desperate if you stay with AJ’s crazy ass and he will kick your ass!

Keith is really a good guy with a whole lot of potential. He’s accepting and opened to help with growth and change to better himself and be that person Kristine needs him to be for the both of them . He just needs guidance. With Kristine’s strength, she is that person. I just hope her ass has the patience and the insight that Keith’s ass is a keeper. They’re the only ones I’m hoping will stay together.

Too much ass, I know but I need this show OVER and their asses GONE! No followups, reunions, nothing!

Is anyone bothered that when Kate told Dr. Pepper that she has a secret and that Luke has asked her not to tell anyone, Dr. Pepper immediately asked what it was. She didn’t say anything like, Luke is your husband and you shouldn’t break his trust. She didn’t encourage Kate to talk to Luke about reaching out to the experts together. I felt like Dr. Pepper was being nosy more than helpful.

I also wonder if there isn’t a little truth to Lukes accusations about Kate’s drinking. She admitted to blacking out drunk on more than one occasion and didn’t defend herself. I am not so sure she is a fragile little innocent like everyone thinks.

You’re right. I feel like Dr Pepper set Kate up. She went right from “tell me your secret while I guzzle some more coffee” to “you owe Luke an apology”.
I’ve thought for some time Kate has some problems of her own making. She could stand up for herself but she’s milking her victim status for sympathy.
Luke indicates that when she gets drunk Kate pressures him for sex and she acknowledged this. He gives in to please her (ay least initially, he says but now he says he does find her desirable – except when she’s drunk). The first time he gave in, on their honeymoon, he said he was disgusted with himself. That’s a lot different from saying, “Kate you disgust me” or “you’re repulsive”.
IF THEIR ROLES WERE REVERSED… If Kate said that she didn’t want to have sex until she felt a real emotional connection, but Luke was frequently getting black out drunk and pressuring her for sex – and she gave in to please him but was disgusted with herself afterwards for not waiting – who would be the villain in your eyes? Luke or Kate?
Do we have such a narrow view of men we think we (as liberated women) should demand sex and the man should just say “yes ma’am” and hop to it while we are too good to do the same. Despite what many women think, men do have emotions – and every much a right to their bodies as we do – they just aren’t always good at expressing themselves.

It’s the only way I can imagine being able to tolerate Luke for any extended period of time. Also, that champagne glass hot tub looked like it needed to be scrubbed with penicillin and then burned just in case.

Thanks for the recap! And congratulations on the new readers!

I don’t think Luke ever had honest intentions in coming on this show. His mother’s comments on the wedding day preceded everything – this is a mockery of marriage. I bet he told her that none of the participants take the vows seriously, so Mom wouldn’t think he was such an ass.

He didn’t kiss Kate at the reception. He didn’t want to sleep in the same room as her on the wedding night. He demanded total secrecy about having sex, which is something most people take for granted in a marriage.

I would bet my next mortgage payment that Luke has some kind of significant other who he’s been dating, and to whom he has promised fidelity. It would explain why their sex life is such a big secret and why he disappeared in a cloud of self loathing and guilt each time after they had sex. And now this SO of his will know the truth, since it is being aired now. It wouldn’t have mattered how hot, smart, successful, interesting, talented Kate might have been – it wasn’t going to happen.

So Luke is now getting payback by calling her an alcoholic on national TV. Is it true? I don’t know. Production has shown her imbibing in wine, but I don’t ever recall seeing her drunk. He says she was blackout drunk at times, which means she didn’t remember stuff the next day, not that she passed out. I am very ambivalent about this accusation, since it would be very easy for him to make up something or exaggerate and then act surprised that she didn’t remember the way he describes it to her. Production hasn’t shown anything to support his allegations of this.

I agree, and even if he is truly concerned about her drinking, then he is just a jackass for talking about it on national television. On the other hand, given all his comments over the last several weeks about her drinking, I wonder why she still does? If that was me, I’d just give it up, and then see what happens when he doesn’t have that to talk about.

I had such an issue with him telling her what she could and couldn’t talk about. He says something completely abusive and then get mad at her for reaching out to the experts. Then, he has sex with her and acts like a fruit cake afterward and she again, reaches out because she’s at her breaking point. How dare he do her dirty then promise her to secrecy. I feel like I say the same thing every week re this season’s mess. I’ll say again, the “experts” are horrible this season. Paster Cal?! Hello? How can he allow this abuse to happen between Kate and Luke, Aj and Stephanie? It’s gross. Kate is supposed to apologize to Luke? That car ride was horrible. Luke is horrible. I don’t know and don’t care why he acts like he does. No one deserves his passive aggressive ass in their life, period.

AJ really lost me completely last episode when he described why he “signed up” for married MAFS. He literally hit the Jackpot with Stephanie. I hope she divorces his ass after he says he wants to stay married on the last episode (which is 2 weeks away??? Grrr).

Congrats TT on your new readers!

Who knew Keith and Kristine might have real longevity. Will is already mentally checked out from overbearing emasculating Jasmine. Stephanie has a man child crazy fool on her hands and needs to let it go but she’s got the googly eyes for him. Oh Kate, please stop being such a doormat and stand up for yourself. Their conversations are so painful to watch with Luke’s constant manipulation and emotional abuse. I do wonder from this epi if there may be a nugget of truth that Kate may possibly not be who she appears to be in getting drunk and then wanting sex since she didn’t bother to deny it – is she that checked out emotionally that it’s easier to say nothing or just unwillingness to speak up? If i were stuck with Luke I’d be drinking too! She should have left him as she originally planned but he manipulated her not to leave him. I’m so disappointed with the experts on their trainwreck of a marriage. They need to pay for Kate to get some real therapy after all she’s been through with this traumatic experience.

I think people are overlooking what I believe could point to the root of the problem between Luke and Kate. When she walked down the aisle towards him, he looked shocked, looked over at his friends, and mouthed something to them. They appeared to understand what he was saying and looked concerned. He then said to them, “it’s OK”. What was that all about?

Since then Luke has made reference to Kate drinking to the point of blackout. It has also been stated that she went to one of his dating get-togethers a couple of weeks before the wedding. He remembered her from that. What if she got blackout drunk, hooked up with Luke, and then didn’t have a clue who he was when they met at the altar. When they were talking right after the ceremony, there appeared to be some confusion on his part that she didn’t remember him. Could this blow to his ego, and inappropriateness of the situation, be the reason he has reacted so unfavorably to her since then? Not that anything excuses the things he said to her, or why he acts so strangely after they have sex. Not that he would disrespect himself, of course, it’s always the woman who’s the slut after one-night stands. Conversely, perhaps they didn’t have sex after the event, but he has zero respect for her due to behavior that he witnessed that night.

Just a theory, and maybe I have an overactive imagination, but I’ve never heard any explanation for the interaction between him and his friends. Has it been discussed and, if so, what was the reason?

I fixed it for you. 🙂 Luke and Kate did talk about the speed dating event. They did not hook up,
they just met each other there and she did her speed dating thing. Just before the show started filming,
he had tried to contact her via email to let her know of an upcoming speed dating event. She told him
she ignored that email, because by that time she knew she was getting married. They laughed about it.

I’m not so sure why so many people are trying so hard to make this situation Kate’s fault. Luke’s heavy
drinking has also been mentioned on the show.

Thanks for clearing that up, Tamara. It was just a thought. I shouldn’t have let any insinuation that Kate drinks too much even enter my consciousness. I just hope that all of Luke’s cruelty isn’t glossed over at the end. In other news, Pastor Cal is an abject moron. I was watching one of those reruns with the episode plus commentary. Actually, it just popped on after something I was watching on Demand ended and Lifetime must have been the last live channel I was on.

So there is Pastor Cal talking about the sex issue with Luke and Kate… and/or Jasmine and Will and he was saying Will just needs to suck it up and be a man and sleep with Jasmine. (I paraphrase but not by much) and other equally disturbing things about the sex situation with Kate and Luke.

I used to like him. Not anymore. In fact all of these “experts” this season were woefully and spectacularly awful this season.

AJ is a scary dude, if Stephanie stays with him, she is crazy, she needs to sprint away from that relationship. I could not help but think that if they stay together and have children, I would worry about his temper and relationship with them. Keith is the only male showing love for his new bride. Will is not at all into Jasmine, she needs to pack her bags. Luke is bad news! Kate needs to get out, he is an insensitive Jerk and does not take any self accountability, it will continue to be this way going forward.
