I feel like it has been a LIFETIME since the last episode of Mexican Dynasties. I look forward to this playful little show every week. So far, I haven’t had time to check the ratings but I really hope it is doing well! Let’s see what our friends south of the border have in store for us.
Does anyone else know about the South of The Border? It used to be, and hopefully still is this giant store I think just south of the border between North and South Carolina. Or just south of some state line. It was like a Stuckey’s if it wasn’t indeed a Stuckey’s and they sold all sorts of fake Mexican stuff and convenience store foods, and pecan logs and divinity. This has me thinking of pecan logs. I am on a healthy eating plan and it’s going well. But I suddenly think about the worst junk food in the world from time to time. I don’t really want it. But I keep thinking I do,
La Familia Madrazo
It’s Oscar Madrazo’s birthday, so of course his sister, Paulina, is headed over to his house first thing in the morning to wish him a Happy Birthday. Or course, she is bringing her two kids and a six-piece Mariachi band along on the short journey to his house. They blare him out of bed with Mexican Happy Birthday. Oscar loves it. It’s Oscar’s 49th birthday! I would have never guessed he seems very young.
Oscar is having an S&M party for his birthday. But first, he has to do his TV show, ¡Que Madrazo with his sister. Apparently, these two are the Donny and Marie of Mexico. I wonder if we get that show on Universo?

La Familia Allende
I love Fernando and Mari Allende. It is 1:30 pm and they are just now waking up and opening their curtains by remote control. They have only awakened because the maid is there with their coffee. Then their 27 year old son and the dog come to join them in bed. They are excited because their grandchildren are coming today! The kids were staying with their other grandparents in Florida so they could finish the school year.
We get an assortment of talking heads from all the Allendes making fun of Elan’s birth. Mari wanted a daughter and instead, out popped Elan covered in “hair.” They are all so funny!
The staff explains to us that the three Allendes who live in the penthouse full-time are up drinking and blaring music and banging on the drugs all night long. How are the grandkids going to get any sleep? The manage to drive Elan, Jenny and the kids out of the penthouse.
Mommy and Daddy take Adan shopping because he is sad about La Voz. But when he tells them that Doris Bessudo want so be his manager, Mari is not amused. Fernado asks if she has expertise in the music industry. It seems that didn’t cross Adan’s childlike mind. Mari tells Adan he needs to check Doris’s resumé.

La Familia Bessudo
Doris Bessudo takes her dog to get groomed. Adan Allende shows up to have a coffee with her while she waits. Just last week, Doris Bessudo was showing us how busy she is working as the mom, Raquel Bessudo’s manager. Or daughtager. Now she wants to be Adan’s publicist. This will not go over well with Mami and Papi Allende. Especially since Doris is trying to tell him that not doing La Voz was the wrong decision. Doris is dead wrong. Doris also represents other clients besides her mother. I think it would be great for Adan to have a manager who isn’t in the family. However, based on just La Voz, I’m not sure she knows enough about the music industry to be helpful.

The S&M Birthday Party
Class, today’s Spanish word of the day is “vibrador.” Can you guess what that means? Apparently, Adan had a crush on Jenny before she started dating his brother.
Off to the party! Of course, Oscar and Paulina are bringing their mother to the party! Why not? She’s a hoot! When Oscar was picked on at school, his mom and her sister arrived to pick him up armed with bats. That seemed to do the trick. His mom puts on a wrestler mask and sneaks up behind him with a bat during his talking head. Then she whispers to him, “I thought you were going to tell them about the gun.” I love this familia!
This party looks amazing. The gift from the Allendes is a giant black dildo. Apparently, they all chipped in and went to Mexican Spencers, I don’t think there are Spencers anymore but the old folks will get that comment.
Then we get a collection of talking heads. Everyone says Mari is the dominatrix of the group. These little bundles of talking heads are so much fun.
Over My Dead Body Will Doris Bessudo Manage My Son!
Then we come to the main event. It’s Mari Allende versus Doris Bessudo. My money is on Mari. Doris embellishes quite a bit of her conversation with Adan. While he did say that turning down La Voz might be the biggest mistake of his career so far, he did not say it was the biggest mistake of his life. Doris says she told him F the contract. No matter what the contract said, La Voz would catapult his career.
Mari is boiling mad. She points out the obvious. Mari asks what has happened to the career of the kids who have won since 2012? Nothing. The same is true for the US version. They have never created a star. It’s not because they don’t have the talent though. American Idol has made a lot of stars out of their contestants over the years. That is because CAA talent agency works with them and they control who gets what exposure in Hollywood. Dorit’s response is also correct when she say, “That’s because they weren’t managed properly.”
Oscar was hoping a guy he just met at a restaurant would come to his party. He calls late and says he is tired. Then he asked if Oscar had any coke. Poor Oscar. Back to the drawing board. Apparently, he got a one night stand out of it.
Who Is Supposed To Be Watching Adan?
In the last scene we see Adan Allende meeting with Doris Bessudo. She is asking for his demos. Really? Neither one of these people seems to know enough about the other to be signing a management contract. And yet, she offers him one. He at least has the sense to ask how much she takes as a percentage. She says 20%. Even Kris Jenner doesn’t take that much! The rate should be 10%. Adan says he is a grown man who can make his own decisions. So, Doris says she will prepare the contract. They shake on it. Mari is going to snatch Doris bald over this. Know that. Adan knows his mother is going to freak. He thinks it’s funny.
Next week: Things get heated at Casa Allende. Doris’s husband comes to town. Oscar tries to make a relationship with a Brazilian guy. Jenny and Elan are sick of having their successes ignored. They signed a major record deal and his parents are too busy wiping Adan’s butt to notice!
Oh my gosh, I’m so glad you’re watching this show! It is my new innocent guilty pleasure! These families are a hoot, and are holding my interest so far. The dynamic between Elan and Adan is a bit uncomfortable to watch, while at the same time kind of fascinating (Jenny is quick to jump in with her opinions too, and as they said in last week’s episode, she & Mari have a love/hate kind of relationship, but still seem to care for each other). I really am entertained by this entire cast in different ways – Oscar in particular cracks me up with his personality. Looking forward to watching my dvr of tonight’s episode tomorrow!
Love this show. It’s a nice break from the nastiness and fighting of the housewives shows. I love it! Maybe it’s the different family dynamics but they are so entertaining!
I remember South of the Border! Although I don’t recall which border it was either. I remember thinking it was huge and festive and I wanted my parents to stop there but they wouldn’t which was a prudent decision on their part. As for the show I’ve found it quite enjoyable, they all seem quite giddy and high energy compared to other Bravo shows.
Oscar’s mom sneaking up on him with the bat, then the comment about the gun was EVERYTHING!
This show is growing on me.
I like the cast and the little conflicts.
My favorite parts are the Maids comments.
It does seem that Oscar is a bit naïve when it comes to finding a mate.
I wish him well and it seems he is deserving of someone really great in his life.
I imagine it will take a very special person to fit in with the dynamic Oscar has with his sister
and be able to be comfortable within that world.
Changing gears, I am glad we get to see the funny side of Adan and not just the spoiled bratty little brother. I think when Jenny & Adan were telling the story of him having a crush on her, we were allowed to see his charm. We laughed WITH him, not AT him, this time.
So, by the time they go to the S&M party and Adan was goofing around, it WAS funny.
I enjoyed his silliness. I have a feeling that he and Jenny laugh together a lot, which is a way different
vibe than what we were first introduced to.
South of the Bo rder was Dillon, South Carolina. We used to stop and stay at the motel on our way to Florida when I was a child. I remember being so happy to get maracas at the store.
Remember the big statue, I think it was a horse, that you could sit on. My grandparents would always make a stop at South of the Border during trips to visit relatives in the North.
The gift shop with the cheesy souvenirs…great memories.
Great show too. Lots of fun and lighthearted.
I live in San Antonio and we still have a few Spencer’s. I still love sneaking to the back of the store to look at all the naughty things and I’m 51
I’m 72 and I still go into our local Spencer’s. I used to buy risque cards from them to send to my then 80 something year old mother who lived in England. She would pretend to be very prim and proper, but deep down inside she appreciated a good laugh. Every now and then, I’ll still see a good one and wish that she were here so I could send it to her LOL.
Haven’t watched this or all of RHOBH bc of an issue the Sling app is having! Is anyone else having problems with Bravo shows recording if you only have the east coast feed?
About La Voz … Two words: Adam Lambert. Winners don’t always win. I think only the winner of American Idol has to sign the contract. I tried to find if that were true for The Voz. Doubtful Adan would have won, so I thought that he should have gone on the show for exposure. BUT there are lots of other weird stipulations. Easy to see those by Googling.
These people are so funny. Especially The Help.
Watching tonight! I love this show!
I love the show and just about everyone on it. Adan and his dad both kind of creep me out though. I think it’s because his dad is a graduate of the Wayne Newton School of Plastic Surgery surgery and Adan is so immature and ove. rly enthralled with his singing talent. I get a kick out of everyone else.
Wayne Newton! Spot on English Rose. I knew he reminded me of someone famous. Ha! Too funny.
This show has so much personality & charm.
Ah, me too! I am so used to “he reminds me of someone” I don’t even try to figure it out anymore. He’s Wayne Newton with a tiny dash of Liberace.
I love love this show. With all the crap that is going on in the world it is so refreshing to watch a series that is light hearted. Please bravo we need a laugh !
I watched the first 30 mins of the first episode and turned it off. I thought it was all caricature. I had no idea these people were real. It bothered me enough though to google them and find out who they really are. Now I watch with pleasure although I do find it very hard to believe they are real.
This show is a breath of fresh air! Everyone is happy and they aren’t pretending to be anything they aren’t, as far as I know. Haha. I actually started doing dishes during RHOBH. That’s some bad vibes.
I remember South of the Border in SC…driving north from Myrtle Beach there was billboard after billboard, we had to stop. The funniest thing was the x rated store that was also there, hey kids don’t look that way!
I really enjoy this show, such fun!
I really hope Oscar finds love. He seemed so genuinely sad…
I absolutely LOVE THIS SHOW! OMG it’s the BEST!
This show is so refreshing and i love it!
So nice to see kind comments about this show. I saw so many harpy stans defending James on the Vanderpump Rules page, I was scared to check this one out. Lol
This show really is refreshing though. Everyone has issues but when all you see and hear is negativity and cruelty, it almost seeps out of the tv and into the minds of the fans.
I hope the positivity of this show has a better effect on people.
