Well, well, well, guess who’s back to recap the new ladies of Married to Medicine LA? It’s so good to be back.
Bravo has given us a brand new Married to Medicine franchise. That means a brand new cast. There has already been an introductory episode with the original Married to Medicine ladies and the first episode has aired so let’s get up to speed.
Dr Britten Cole
We begin with Dr. Britten Cole. She’s Contessa Metcalfe’s best friend and our link to the Atlanta women. She has a HOT husband, Mack Major, and two young kids. While Dr, Cole tries to establish a permanent job in LA, the kids and her husband remain in Florida Mack and the kids visit every coupleof weeks. Mack Major refers to Britten as an nontraditional wife. Mack seems to do the majority of the cooking and taking care of the kids, which works for them. They met when Britten Cole was in the military. Then she was deployed so all they’ve known as a couple is how to make it a long distance relationship work.
Dr. Noelle Reid
Next, we meet Dr. Reid. Asha Kamali Blankinship, another doctor on the franchise is in her office for Botox. God does botox look painful. The two women have been friends for a long time. Noelle was a dancer who eventually went to medical school. Asha is also a dancer. She followed Noelle to LA but not into medical school. She went into acting. Recently,,Asha had a two year wedding anniversary party where the Atlanta women met all of the newbies. Asha had a brief consult with Dr. Simone Whitmore while at the party. Simone told her that since she’s 39, she has to get a move on if she wants babies. Asha is (as I was coined and HATED) of “advanced maternal age”. She can still have children, but there’s a higher risk of abnormalities.
Dr. Imani Walker
Dr. Walker is stunning. She’s tall, bald and her face is damn near perfect. Her husband Phil Johnson and son Idris join her for dinner. together. The close bond they have is obvious. Imani and Phil met at a party and he told her that he was in an R&B group, Portrait. They’ve been happily married since. Phil helped her raise her son Idris, who was 20 months old when they met. Imani’s father was a drug addict and she’s looking to heal some wounds from her childhood. Phil is wary but Imani seems determined.
Shanique Drummond
Shanique is the wife of Dr. Robert Drummond. Boy does she think she is unique. She is rental property manager and holds it down at home. She is quick to point out she does it all in four inch heels. Eyeroll. They have two kids. Shanique takes pride in raising her kids on her own and taking care of Robert. She cooks, cleans and does it all. Robert praises her for supporting him throughout medical school. He says she is a wonderful wife. First impressions? They genuinely seem happy. So we’ll see about them.
Maybe It’s An LA Thing…
Shanique Drummond arrives at her friend Jazmin’s house for a photo shoot. Jazmin is a doctor’s wife as well and is going to be a friend of the show. Shanique is planning a Jamaican themed birthday party for her husband Robert. Robert Drummond is obsessed with gummy bears so Jazmin is photographing Shanique in a bath tub of gummy bears. This is what passes a boudoir shoot I guess. The real notable item from this scene, besides how extra Shanique is, is how even more extra Jazmin is. Jazmin lets us know that she just had a baby and is already pre-baby weight. She also likes to parent in heels…so I’m gonna let y’all form your own opinions. My opinion is that I’m already over Jazmin. And her heels.
Asha Kamali Blankinship and her husband Dr. Larry Blankinship discuss having a baby at her advanced maternal age. Larry doesn’t seem ready to have a baby but Asha clearly is. He’s concerned about finances and wants to make sure he can afford the baby. Asha thinks he’s just afraid of becoming a dad and I hope that’s all it is.
Jamaican Me Crazy
The ladies are all getting ready for Dr. Robert Drummond’s birthday party. Oooh Dr. Heavenly Kimes is in town and is going as a plus one with Asha! Yesss! I’m so happy to see Heavenly. Dr. Heavenly Kimes, Dr. Imani Walker and Asha Kamali Blankinship all ride together to the party. Heavenly is being messy by misremembering the new cast names and commenting on the stature of Robert. He is, ummm, of smaller stature… which Heavenly points out. She’s crazy and I miss her!
The party is getting started and Robert Drummond is drinking a LOT. The LA men seem to have a close relationship, just like our Atlanta men do. Shanique has Robert open a boudoir pic of her in front of all the guests to mixed reactions. Rob loves it, Dr. Imani Walker thinks it’s weird. I’m with you
Who Invited Her?
Imani. Shanique invited Dr. Larry Blankinship’s ex girlfriend to the party and Noelle’s spidey senses are tingling. She asks why an ex of Larry’s is invited and Shanique says that Rob and the ex are close. Asha is not happy and neither are some of the ladies, except Jazmin. Because, Jazmin. Dr. Imani Walker finds it shady but decides to take Shanique and Asha aside to diffuse the tense situation. Heavenly grills the ex and tries to force a discussion between the two women. Asha does not fall into that trap and instead decides to leave with Heavenly. Smart move Asha!
Next week on Married to Medicine LA: Dr. Bettina Cole says goodbye to her husband and kids. Robert and Shanique Drummond discuss the possible “overlap” in Larry and Asha Blankinship’s relationship with his ex. And Dr. Imani Walker says Jazmin’s house looks like a drug dealer’s house. I like this show so far! I really hope y’all feel the same and will join me Sundays at 9ET. And as always, thank you Tamara Tattles for having me back! This looks to be a great season.
I’m in! I think Shanique and Heavenly are long lost sisters…they remind me of one another. Shanique gets on my nerves, however. When Dr Imani’s husband said he enjoys hanging out with Dr Robert….and ppl ask him if he’s his son…heeeelarious.
This looks like it’ll be a fun show.
Yes I’m so glad! It was awesome to see Heavenly and I can definitely see the similarities with Shanique. I think we’re off to a good start, I hope it stays that way 🙂
I’m here for it…..so far so good. I like the show and I’m glad you’re recapping it.
Yessss Rmicu!! Thank you, me too! I think this will be a good series. I’m hopeful anyway!
Asha and her husband…something is a little off. She was a little extra with her toast at their wedding anniversary party. I presumed she was being extra dramatic as an actress. Now that I’ve seen the second episode, Asha is definitely extra…….!!
Shanique should have told Asha, before the party, that the ex girlfriend would be at the party. At the same time, I think Asha would have stayed at the party if Heavenly hadn’t made a spectacle of trying to bring the ex over to Asha. Heavenly was trying to start an argument between the wife and ex-girlfriend.
I’m happy Asha did not fall for it and maintained her composure as she left the party.
Haha yes, Asha is extra but I like her. I don’t know why she and her husband seem off but I totally agree with you. I was soo happy she didn’t fall into the fight trap at the party! I don’t know if I like Shanique.
I have two friends who know Asha. I need to get some tea.
Ooooh PLEASE get the tea!!!! Inquiring Tamara Tattlers need to know!! =)
Dr Heavenly was SO over the top and way TOO extra. She should of stayed out of it. If it was my party or husband’s party, I would not have brought it up that the “ex” was there. But they want some drama so I get it. I have been to many parties and had “ex’s” there. I wouldn’t have a social life if I tried to stay away from an “ex”. Damn, I was in Shanghai and ran into the “ex” that I hate.
Oh I think Heavenly saw it as a perfect opportunity: to stir the pot then leave the freakin state!! lol. Oh no you were in a different country and had an ex run in???? What did you do??? I mean, I don’t love my husband’s exes but I know they exist and can be cordial at a dinner party. I think it was more of the way Shanique told Asha, you know? It was shady.
I was on a tour and I was taking a picture and someone grabbed my hair. The crazy thing is that I was holding an umbrella and wearing a long parka coat with the hood up. I turned around and went completely white with my mouth open. He moved forward and tried to give me a hug and I moved back shaking my hand and head “NO”, he said ” you know I lived here” and I shock my head “no”. I finally got words out and said “I got to go and cath up with the tour”. He had the nerve to say “text me”. I deleted all info 5 years ago. I turned around and walk to my tour group. It ruined my last 2 days in Shanghai. To make it worse it was my birthday week and this was the second time he ruined my birthday.
Uuugh that sounds awful 🙁
So glad you are recapping this one Kelly. Now I need to watch my recording.
Awwe thanks Nanette!!! Yes, please do!! I think it’s really good. I usually don’t like spin offs but I like this one.
I only caught half of it, but I’m in. Loved seeing them at work and taking care of their kids. I couldn’t get into the regular Married to Medicine, but I was hooked in just a few minutes of this. Is Dr. Cole the anesthesiologist? I was enjoying watching her and her family.
Regarding the ex… for me it would depend on how long the relationship lasted, how hot & heavy it was, and how good or bad the breakup was. I have friends who I think have too much “ownership” over their ex even if it was a short relationship years and years ago. It feels like they want to control who can and can’t date the person, all the narrative about them, etc. I have remained friends with my ex’s and my husband is close with one of them. We were young, we were headed in different directions in life, we were friends before and we are friends now. My husband likes him because we all have a lot in common, and similarly, I get along fine with his wife when we see each other at parties. My point is, it doesn’t have to be dramatic and doesn’t have to be a problem if someone wasn’t crushed by the breakup and if there wasn’t some kind of abuse or cheating. I would hate it if my friends tried to stir something up about it.
Thank you Kelly for recapping this Married to Medicine LA. I like Dr. Britten, Dr. Reid and Dr. Imani the best so far. Looking forward to the next episode.
