On the front page of TMZ today there are at least three stories about men attacking or raping women. Something really needs to be done about this. In fact, every day lately when I go to TMZ I am disgusted by what is considered “entertainment news” and who we chose to hold up as celebrities in this country.
We’ve talked about Chris Brown here many, many times before. When will he be held accountable?
His latest brush with the law occurred in Paris where Chris and two of his goons have been arrested for rape. He and the other two men must appear in court within two days or be released. If the judge decides to go forward with the case, Chris will be in Paris for about a year before his trial date arrives. The prosecutor can ask that he be held in custody for that entire time, or the judge can let him surrender his passport and stay in France for the entire time, checking in regularly with French officials.
According to the French publication Closer, who broke the story, a twenty-four year old French model was invited by a friend of hers that works at the club to come meet Chris Brown the following night. So she went and hung out with Chris and a bunch of girls in his entourage. About 4 am the group was leaving and she was invited back to the hotel for an after party. She was tired but eventually decided to go. Outside the club there were two Mercedes vans. She was directed to the second one and it was full. She said she would just call it a night since there was no room in the car, but some of Chris’s security took her to his car to ride with him.
At Chris’s suite at the Mandarin Oriental, it was loud. Everyone’s cell phone was taken at the door. There was a lot of drinking, cocaine and lots of very pretty girls. At some point she went to the bathroom, Chris followed her in, grabbed her by the arm and pulled her into a dressing room and raped her for about half an hour.
Once she was out of the bathroom she told Chris she just wanted to get her phone and go. Instead one of his goons took her into another room and also raped her. Then another one did. She was raped by all three men.
The young lady just wanted to get home and did not report the incident to police until the next (second) day. She was afraid they had all of her information since they had possession of her phone but she wanted to do something to keep other women from suffering the same fate.
Will the Parisian authorities finally be the ones who put these people behind bars? Under French law, rape is punishable by up to fifteen years in prison.
