Below Deck: Let Them Eat Chicken

December 11, 2018 by tamaratattles 138 Comments

It is finally time to see the horrific accident that sent Ashton home, and I am not sure if I am ready. But ready or not, let’s do this. This gives me such anxiety!

Wow, it was the cameraman, Brent, who saved Ashton. That was some quick thinking on his part, he literally saved Ashton’s life. Captain Lee says they were within thirty seconds of Ashton dying. He would have had to call his parents and tell them. He’s really upset. He has to step out of his confessional. I think that confessional was filmed after he came back to Lauderdale. Ross is crying in the bathroom of the boat. Ashton has to stay on the tinder until they get to anchorage which delays him from seeing the doctor.

Adrian distracts the guests with another delicious lunch. Ashton makes it back to the boat very shaken up but with both of his feet still intact. He was sure his foot was going to be ripped off his leg and he would have bled out into the water. It was really scary. Captain Lee and I both are pleased to see the ankle didn’t look bad at all. It’s black and blue and very swollen. The doctor comes and says it is not broken since he can put weight on it. She also brings much-needed pain pills. Is Ashton actually staying on for the rest of the season? I was so sure he would be going home.

Laura continues to be a Negative Nelly. Yet she doesn’t seem to know how to do turndowns.

Adrian goes for comfort food for dinner with a chicken dish. The guests hate it. They admit it tastes great. There issue is that it is food for poor people. So Adrian whips up some scallops and that seems to soothe them. They also eat the chicken. Adrian now hates the guests and thinks they are assholes. Basically, if they don’t like his food, it’s their fault for having poor taste.

Captain Lee seems furious with Ross and is riding his ass. He is watching the deck crew like hawks and doesn’t like what he sees. They still aren’t doing the lines right. Rhylee gets an ass chewing for being on the swim platform when the tinder was being released to be towed. Ross and Rhylee get into a huge fight after leaving the wheelhouse within earshot of the guests. Rhylee says Ross is just like Chandler all over again. I sort of agree with Rhylee during this argument but her delivery is terrible. I can relate to that character flaw. Ross actually realizes he was wrong or at least says he does to end the argument.

Ashton is feeling better and is up and about enough to flirt with Laura. I am shocked he rebounded and appears to be able to finish out the season. This is great news! He rallys on the final day to get up and contribute what he could.

At the crew meeting they each get $1,300. Ashton thanks everyone for taking such good care of him during his downtime. Ashton tries to give back his tip and have it split between the crew. Captain Lee says absolutely not. That is not how they roll. Something about that interchange made me teary-eyed. It was such a touching moment.

Captain Lee has another crew meeting meant to stress the importance of safety measures that really hits home. I wish the cameraman that saved Ashton was on WWHL with him tonight. Captain Lee runs the footage of what went wrong when the tinder was released as the cruise began. Rhylee’s nonchalant announcement of “man overboard” was barely audible. It should have been said multiple times so the Captain would know to kill the engine immediately. As soon as the tow rope pulls tight, it would sever Ashton’s foot. There was no time to be wasted. It was very difficult for Ashton to watch. Captain Lee leaves the meeting in tears. Even on WWHL last week he could barely speak about the accident.

OMG! The rest of the season looks AMAZING! This is by far the best show on Bravo right now.

Thank goodness Ashton survived, and thank goodness his injury wasn’t more severe. This is some very serious and very scary shit.

And damn, why are they having so many problems with the exterior crew (well, the ones who are billed as “BOSUN” and “deckhands” on the show) this season? First, Chandler began cracking. Then, Rhylee began popping off. Then, Ross had trouble communicating with Rhylee after Chandler left. And now, this??!!

This may be the rockiest “Below Deck” season since the infamous “Rocky Raquel Eros” season (S3, I believe?). Too soon?

Rhylee reminds of the type that would argue with anyone giving her directions. Her reaction to Ashton going into the water was strange. It looks like she just stood there & watched. I’m glad Ashton is ok

She DID just stand there And barely mumbled man overboard… I was shocked particularly with her being a boat captain herself …that she did not on kick into to gear and ununwind that rope. I would be hard pressed to ever charter a boat that she was the captal on… Not to mention how this rude..argumentative, disrespectful ,unhinged women is to her bosun.. I think Ross is hesitant to say anything to the captain because of Chandler And how much Chandler put the blame on her…. Her and Chandler have a lot in common because neither one ever takes responsibility for his or her actions…Ross completely apologized to shut her up especially in front of the guest but I don’t think he was in the wrong at all.. And I agree they should I had Ashton and Brent on the show! I absolutely loved Ashton and I always adored captain Lee but even more so after this episode…Brent is the true rock star!

Rhylee was USELESS! If she’s a boat captain in Alaska, shouldn’t she have known what to do? Why didn’t SHE start untying the rope from the cleat? Instead, she stood there looking AWAY from Ashton. Then the other 2 declines didn’t seem to know WTF to do so the CAMERAMAN has to step in? Unbelievable! I was also surprised none of them dove in to make sure Ashton got to the tender ok. At that point he could’ve been bleeding, in shock or faint. Why let him go by himself? Can’t they swim? The whole episode seemed to highlight how unqualified these people really are – and how dangerous it is to let a TV production company hire the crew!

People complain Captain Lee is a hard ass and now you see why. Lives are at stake; he’s responsible. Rhylee is a worthless bitch. She should of been untying the rope from the cleet instead of just standing there. She is FOS being a boat captain in Alaska IMO. Thank God for the quick acting cameraman. Rhylee has caused so much disruption and confusion with her insubordination. She needs to go.

Kate has two more charters, just suck it up with Laura. At least she works and doesn’t have to be told to do laundry like that dolt Caroline.

Rhylee needs to pick her battles. She doesn’t have to argue with everything. Even if you know you’re right you have to just shut up sometimes. Unless you or someone else is in danger there really is no need to argue about everything.

Rhylee appears cool and collected during the accident. The more I see of Ashton, the more I love him. So glad he is okay. I love Ross, Ashton and even Rhylee. And the new guy.

I am really grateful for the new third stew. She give no f**** to nasty old hag Kate and snooty Josiah.

Beginning to think Caroline was right tell Adrian that his food wasn’t appreciated even tho Kate had said not to tell him. He is quite thin skinned and not as zen as he pretends to be. The truth is, he does step it up when he is told that his food wasn’t up to snuff. He needs a wakeup call despite his great talents. And he is still young.

Feeling this show is starting to show a little more balance.

Captain Lee’s call to Jesus meeting did seem a little overkill. The accident was not Ross’ fault but being bosum he is taking the heat and he handles it well.
    .
Nice to see Capt. Lee, Adrian, Kate and Josiah get knocked back down to reality. They arn’t all that they think they are.

Truly the best show on Bravo.

I was a bit dumbfounded by Rhylee’s lack of immediate action. She and Tyler were the two deckhands there when Ashton actually went in the water. I have never worked a boat but grew up on a lake with boats and still go on them frequently. The very first time I saw the clip of the accident I knew that someone had to get the line off the cleat as quickly as possible. Ashton says that when he came up to get a big breath he saw Brent & Ross getting it off. Why weren’t Rhylee & Tyler already doing that?

Miss Chief Stew Julia is a PITA. First she going to whip them into shape and then she thought she didn’t have to pick up towels because she didn’t think they cared about that stuff? I enjoyed seeing Ashton respond to her comment that the accident happened because they cut a lot of corners on this boat. I also enjoyed Adrian telling her she wasn’t doing her job. Where do these people come from with their shitty work ethic? I’ve had more than one shitty boss and I never gave them attitude and did the work I was hired to do.

I adore chicken and love it from KFC, Popeyes or at home. But I’ve never ordered it in a fine restaurant, ever, with the exception Yardbird here in Las Vegas. But then my rich, best friend was treating me to dinner… and it is a restaurant only known for its chicken (duh, with a name like Yardbird). I’d much rather have a piece of beef, pork, lamb or seafood.

My partner and I were just today watching a BD marathon and day-dreaming of our perfect yacht charter (which we will never experience because we are currently poor). We immediately agreed that there would be no chicken, kale, quinoa or glass beads on the table, lol. And please don’t waste your time with the ridiculous slide, jetskis and trampoline. Rich seafood, delicious meat and well-made drinks only. And don’t hover/eavesdrop, please. We’ll ask you (politely) if we need anything. Waterfalls, sea life and natural beauty, yes please. And absolutely no fire dancers, drummers or jugglers! But yes to the flower crowns. ?

I never order chicken dishes at fine dining restaurants because something better typically catches my attention but I may just try a chicken dish the next time I’m out and about.

Oh, thank God Ashton is ok! I work far from my dvr but I had to check in on this.

Caption Lee will always outrank me. Cpt. Lee outranks EVERYONE on his boat. I would sit down and shut up every single time he spoke to, at or with me and fellow crew members…every single time. The man is a wealth of knowledge plus, he’s in charge, and responsible for everything and everyone on the charter.
There’s always a reason for him to speak to you. I want to like Rylee but she needs to back up, respect Ross as her supervior officer and do her job as directed, every single time, period. Imo, if she wants to shine at her job as 3rd dh, just do it, do it better each day, ask questions later, not while being given direction. Just do the job asked of you Rylee!

Oh thank goodness something went right saving Ashton. Someone (cameraman?) was paying attention during boat safety class! Someone was able to keep a level head and direct a rescue. Wow, can’t wait to watch, hope I didn’t speak mistakenly or out of order. Thanks TT.

As a woman who has worked in a male dominated field, I see some of the attitudes of her bosun reflecting my experiences. Ross does not give the correct directions but she is suppose to read his mind? Chandler was the king of contradicting his instructions to Rhylee and then blaming her for not knowing. They always criticize her attitude for speaking back but they rarely say she is wrong.

I can’t say that I like Rhylee but I do understand some of what she’s saying. Ross kept telling her to get behind the line and she was behind the line. She was reaching across to push the tender but she was standing behind the line. He never said to get off the swim deck which is actually what he wanted her to do. She was wrong when she said that he had to give her instructions more than 10 minutes before he expected her to do something though. Sometimes you don’t know until the last minute what is going to need to be done. Right or wrong though, she needs to close her mouth in the heat of the moment.

Things like that happen when you have a know-it-all arguing with EVERY THING possible. You lose focus. I hope the casting team wishes up next season and hires people who can DO the job. They do a crappy job vetting. I keep thinking of the killer who WON on the Dating Game (the girl backed out of the date) and the other guy on some show who killed his girlfriend. Seriously?! You don’t like to be attacked, yet you do the same. I hardly ever comment, but felt I needed to on this one. If you quit for years, why did you come back?! Probably because like the rest of us, we love this site and read it faithfully. I don’t even watch half of the shows that are recapped, but enjoy reading them (along w/the other stories) for the snark and laughs. Checking this site is the first thing I do every day that I turn on my computer. So if you don’t like the responses to your comments, then don’t comment. It’s pretty simple. Or just go away and stay away this time.

This Below Deck episode put the “real” back into reality T.V. for me. I’m astounded that a BRAVO camera man knew exactly what to do. A true hero! Now, I understand why those old movie pirates carried knives between their teeth and blades at their sides.. Arrrrrg! To cut the dang ropes! Ashton definitely has some angels of his own and will have this amazing story (and video) to share with his family and one day, his children. After the heart stopping drama, Captain Lee’s safety meeting with the Sienna crew was another riveting and poignant few minutes of reality television! Can’t make this stuff up! Happy everyone survived!!

When I was young, my friends and I would scuba dive along the Monterrey and Santa Cruz coastline. We would harvest whatever was in season (crab, lobster, abalone). ALL of us carried a six inch jagged edged blade strapped to our leg to free ourselves from kelp. I never used mine. When I would get tangled up in seaweed, I would just relax and float up. The sea is always moving and the kelp would just naturally release me. I always thought of this really cool knife strapped to the side of my calf as more of a fashion statement than a useful scuba tool. NOW . . . I’m think’n these sailors are really the ones who should have a knife strapped to their legs! It should be a requirement! Part of their uniform! Ashton could have cut himself free from the rope within seconds, if he had one! Just think’n outloud!

That tow line was made of spectra. Spectra is cut resistant and can replace steel cables. There was no way they were going to hack through it in time with any knife. Unwinding it from the cleat was the fastest way to release it.

Wait just a cotton pickin minute here!! You mean to tell me that Ashton is FINE?! And we have had to watch Captain Lee on commercials in tears for months leading up to this bullshit until now? That’s the biggest crock of manipulation I have ever heard of! Thank god I took my daughter to see a high school band concert last night instead of sitting home to see what happened. I knew that the recap would be perfection, as it is, so didn’t have to watch, although I was obviously very curious to find out what happened, given the over-dramatized lead up…! F-ing Bravo execs playing with everyone’s emotions to try to get viewers. Same goes for the broken champage glasses with the little boy screaming “I’m bweeding”! For pete’s sake, we had to see that 4,000 times and the kid didn’t even have a nick on his foot. I’m thinking that I need to go cable-less and just watch Netflix from now on. No more being manipulated by these a-holes who want ratings. With that being said, I AM glad Ashton is okay. What in the world will happen next? Maybe Kate will get a paper cut from the preference sheet! OH NO!! lol

It was the NEAR DEATH OR DISMEMBERMENT that had Capt. Lee in tears. If Ashton doesn’t have some level of PTSD after this he is fortunate. Yes, Bravo ran that ad nauseum BUT the close call is real. Captain Lee’s reactions were real and he still was shaken when he was on WWHL.

As of this episode I have a raging crush on Captain Lee. He’s the man. I loved how gentle & nurturing he was with Ashton but firm and direct when he was reprimanding Ross & Rhylee. When he insisted Ashton keep his tip? That was it for me, I got all in on the Captain Lee train.

This season is great. Aside from Rhylee, everyone is extremely likeable. Even Kate, and I usually like to hate her.

I love Josiah. His temperament is cool and somewhat dry, but he’s funny AF. He’s my favorite, I could hang with Josiah all day.

Okay someone on here help me out please! I rewound the scene several times and it looks to me like the cameraman was pulling the rope towards him to save Ashton but other commenters on here saying the rope was released from the cleat, so how was he actually saved? Also, on WWHI Ashton said it took him 45 minutes to get from the tender to the boat. We saw the tender was merely yards away so how would it take 45 minutes to get back to the boat when it was right there?
I just can’t get enough of Captain Lee. He showed such compassion for his crew and we got a glimpse of his softer side. He is phenomenal at his job and is also an amazing human being. Good combo. His bride is a lucky woman.

Ashton followed the yacht to it’s anchorage. Capt. Lee said that he left Ashton to drive the tender so he had a task to focus on and wouldn’t be solely focused on what had just happened to him.

I didn’t notice how the cameraman was getting the rope off the cleat but the rope is wound on it in a figure 8 so there may have been times when he was pulling it towards him. Ashton said he saw Brent & Ross working the rope. I didn’t see Ross so he may have been off camera, on one side of the 8, pulling the rope and Brent on the other side, on camera, pulling the opposite side of the 8.

Even though I knew he’d be fine. I still remember water skiing for the first time. Hitting the water and getting my hand tangled in the rope.

So many people that disgust, so little time. First, Rhylie, or whatever bastardization of the name Riley is. She’s a bitch, and has no business being in a job that requires respect or rule following. Second, the guests. It’s so disgusting that they would like the food, but be upset, basically, because it wasn’t better grander than what the great unwashed have access to. Isn’t it the purpose of a chef to make food you like? As long as they’re paying for it I would serve them gold coins, and see if that suits their need for superiority. Third, why does Kate get away with so damn much, both with the Captain and with the posters? She was probably a really good stew, but a HORRIBLE boss. She judges any new employee so harshly before they’ve even done a lick of work, and really is the mean girl. She lied to the captain when he called her out, just like she lied when she made the dick blanket a few seasons ago. Why does he trust her? I think the chef was right for being aggrevated that she didn’t do any setting up. We know she had plenty of time to stare at the water. The audacity of her not being the least bit apologetic when everybody else had to scramble because of her. It affected the guests experience, and made everybody else look bad.

Finally, after commenting to “Sunny” aka Caroline – I can post my thoughts. First TT, thanks for recapping this show. I love Below Deck, it’s my favorite. I LOVE Kate and Josiah. That new stew is one of those who thinks she is smarter than she actually is…. ugh. Dangerous. Can’t pick up towels? Where did she chief stew prior to this? On a raft? A rowboat? Rhylee needs to stop being so reactive. She has a huge chip on her shoulder. I do think they could utilize her more tho, but her behavior is so volatile and her mouth so vile – it’s hard to get past that. So glad Caroline is gone. Kate pegged her perfectly as some frightened, nervous dog. What a hypochondriac that one was, eh? Glad Ashton is okay tho, that whole thing was horrible. I have, and always will, love Captain Lee. I just wish he knew what REALLY goes on with the crew while it’s happening so he can handle the lazy ass idiots and get rid of them asap. Sad to see it’s gonna end soon….

I dismissed him as a poster boy for low body fat, Axe Body Spray, and expert orthodontic attention. Today I saw that his exterior of rippling muscles and finely quaffed hair is matched by an interior of rippling fortitude and finely quaffed grace under pressure. I cannot hope to be half the man Ashton is. (I cannot hope to be a man at all.) I was wrong. Ashton is the real deal. I am the wormboy.

I don’t understand the people who say oh I thought it would be worse than it was. Even Ashton said he thought his foot would have been torn off had Brent not sprung to action AND 30 SECONDS more and he would have drowned. Captain Lee is my Bravo hero before, now and forever. He is a man of integrity and grace.

I was also so touched by Ashton’s humility and thankfulness to everyone. I am so proud of the crew for not wanting to take his tip and for Captain Lee for refusing it. Rhylee may be a lot of things but she is a woman who holds it all inside. It comes out as anger but that lady cares.

Not sure about the new STEW. I imagine the dynamic duo of Kate and Josiah are . exhausted. So I am hoping that some of that anger may be from that because it looks like they might be having some fun in upcoming episodes. Do love those two together though.

Did NOT love these charter guests. I don’t blame Adrian one bit for being ticked at their attitudes. It is one thing to not like a meal it is quite another to feel like you need to knock someone else in the process. But that is the world we live in now. Nasty…… I think they loved everything else. He was professional and kept his anger under wraps. You know, not putting onions in someones food who didn’t want onions. Wink.

I love this Below Deck and it is probably my favorite Bravo show (we will see how NY does. ) . But there is only ONE Captain Lee!

HARK! TT, I just watched again and saw that Chef made salmon and CREAM CHEESE breakfast rolls/wraps. Do you think he was inspired by Shannon Beador? ?

To those who are whining that there was not enough blood and gore…shame on ya.
Even after the doctor proclaimed him to be okay, I still worried. Just because there are no visible injuries does not mean that a lot of internal damage was not done. Add to that the sleeping in very confined space ups the chance of clothing, etc. My hope is that off camera, the doctor did a vascular ultrasound.
I see why Captain Lee was so upset. Like he said, he has kids. Plus, knowing that “Boat Captain” Riley stood there like a statue while a CAMERAMAN swung into action would piss me off to no end.
