I crave glitter. Paillettes. Sequence. Maribou. Wrap me in pink tulle and my problems melt away. So it’s no surprise that RuPaul’s Drag Race is my happy place. But Drag Race is more than idle distraction. In an angry world, the bravest man in the room is wearing a dress. My heroes teach me how to persevere through the hard times and celebrate the good. They prove that It. Gets. Better. and encourage me to keep up the good fight. With all respect to Gil Scott Heron, this is revolution televised. Have I set an appropriate stage to announce the All Stars Season 4 cast? Because this is getting serious.
RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars premieres Friday, December 14. The expected frontrunner is Season 9’s Valentina. Valentina has true star power. In or out of drag, Valentina is the ish. She’s also Tamara’s favorite drag queen. Expect active participation in recap comments. Farrah Moan, Season 9’s spoiled princess (that you can’t help but love) has a bone to pick with Valentina. The former friends famously fought at the Season 9 reunion (say that 5 times). Drag Race just loves to cast feuds. Gia Gunn is flying in like fresh Tilapia straight from Season 6. A proud transgender woman, Gia’s casting flies in the face of RuPaul’s former stance on transgender inclusion. In the biggest coup of Drag Race casting, Season 7’s Jasmine Masters is returning to remind us how Drag Race ruined drag. This is going to be good. Season 4’s Latrice Royale just won back her right to vote (way to go, Florida). Now the newlywed is ready for her second second chance. Latrice was one of the unlucky souls that participated in All Stars Season 1. But don’t pity Latrice. The chunky yet funky queen has a real chance to take home the All Star Season 4 crown.
Naomi Smalls was the fashion queen of Season 8. She has legs for days but don’t let her beauty fool you. Naomi is one sharp cookie. Two queens from Season 10 made the quick pivot to All Stars. Monét X Change, last season’s Miss Congeniality, is ready to show you why I thought she was going to win Season 10. Monique Heart used her too short tenure on Season 10 to earn a strong Drag Race fan base. Will luck be in her favor returning to All Stars so quickly? Manila Luzon, first runner up in Season 3, is Latrice Royale’s partner from the dismal All Stars Season 1. She’s fashion. She’s funny. She’s frank. Don’t sleep on this old lady, boys. She’s a real threat. Rounding out the All Stars Season 4 cast is Trinity Taylor. I called Trinity a filler queen in Season 9 and she made me eat my words. I’m securely #TeamTuck at this point. Welcome to the Thunderdome.
So, what do you think of the cast? Who’s your frontrunner? Dark horse favorite? We only have one month so hash this all out. Bring on the sparkles!
