I am so in the mood for this tonight. I need a happy, funny wedding. Shonda Rimes is trying to kill me with Grey’s Anatomy lately. Give me a nice happy wedding Mercedeh!
I love that Tommy had everyone wear Jordans instead of dress shoes to throw a little New York City vibe into this Iranian festivity. Reza is more excited than MJ.
MJ hasn’t had a dress fitting in God knows how long and she is trying it on two hours before the wedding. I would like to discuss her unusual undergarment but I could not begin to describe it. Besides Vida has arrived to tell the makeup artist all the things she is doing wrong. And she should have gotten there sooner because MJ needs to just go was all of that shit off her face. It’s hard to tell if Mercedeh is even underneath there somewhere. Apparently, Vida was a cosmetics sales person for thirty years. MJ is defending the makeup artist. MJ is practically in blackface and Vida’s bright red lipstick suggestion will only accentuate that.
After making some changes to the dress to show more cleavage and add a bit of structure, the dress fits MJ like a glove. It does look like they lightened her makeup a bit as well. She looks beautiful. Even Vida approves. Shams Javid is embroidered on her veil and she get emotional thinking about her father.
It’s time for the guests to take their seats. Everyone is dressed to the nines, I imagine the invite said black tie. The venue is stunningly gorgeous. Everything is perfect except that MJ doesn’t have any vows prepared. That should be interesting. Also somehow MJ was very, very late to the wedding.
Tommy’s strut down the aisle with his giant grin starts off the waterworks. I love Tommy. Why the hell did no one escort Vida down the stairs? It doesn’t look like they had ushers but someone should have been assigned that job!
Seeing MJ at the top of those stairs in that dress… she is breathtaking. Then when she gets to the bottom of the stairs instead of doing the traditional walk down the aisle, she just starts talking to all the guests like she is at a pool party. Tommy has been standing there waiting on her forever. She’s over an hour late to her own wedding. When she finally gets to Tommy, she tells him he’s supposed to flip her veil. NO HE IS NOT. But he did. Then she turns to the guests and asks if everything looks okay. I believe I may have said before that rehearsals aren’t really necessary. I lied. I presumed people know how to walk down the aisle and when the veil is flipped back, and where they are going to stand. Apparently I was wrong. That hardly ever happens. Then Tommy steps on her train. Seriously, this is ridiculous. Why are the bridesmaids and groomsmen sitting in the audience?
MJ falls of the bride and grooms bench. She’s being very silly and talking during the very interesting explanation about the items on the wedding table. When the pastor asks Tommy to give him permission to marry him in Farsi, he responds with “Absofuckinglutely.”
MJ and Tommy argue about how long his vows should be. They seem to be treating this whole thing like a joke. And then Tommy gets a bit choked up giving his vows. Then when MJ starts her wandering vows, Tommy just laughs because they are ridiculous. MJ gets mad and tells him to shut up because she is fucking talking to him. She’s pissed. Then she isn’t. There were no vows given.
Oh here we go. More traditional vows from the preacher. The best part of this wedding was Tommy’s entrance.
On to the reception where the food has probably been out two hours by now. Or not. As it turns out it is a lovely sit-down dinner. The first dance was way more emotional than the ceremony. MJ’s white lace jumpsuit fit her like a glove and looked amazing.
It looks like Reza and Adam are going to have a sweet private moment where Reza says he thinks things are on track with the new house and they can soon list the condo. Since they bought that together he feels good using that money for an egg. Adam is happy. But then Reza starts saying he wants a more equal partner (my words) and that he feels like he is doing everything. When Adam points out he needs more communication from Reza a disagreement begins and Reza tells Adam to “zip it” So much for an equal partnership. I don’t think Reza seems to know what that is. They eventually hug it out.
Mike talks with his mom privately. Weddings make Mike emotional. He tells his mom he has started therapy. Mike thinks he is ready to get married and have children. He’s not.
Vida and Tommy dancing together was adorable. The gay couples dancing was so nice to see. GG and Nema continue to flirt.
Tommy and his best man arranged for bagpipes to play Amazing Grace as an homage to Shams, and there was not a dry eye in the house (or on the couch.) Mike was sobbing.
It ended with lots of dancing. Mazel Tov, MJ and Tommy.
