It doesn’t look like I am going to get to pop my champagne tonight. So let’s get on to Flipping Out. This is episode eight of ten. It looks like episode ten is the big fight. But the whole damn staff may be ready to flee or get fired.
This week, Jeff needs to lose ten pounds. He is going to hire Teddi Mellencamp to help him with this goal. My reaction to this would be that he is not going to listen to Teddi. And also ten pounds probably doesn’t require an “accountability coach.” But I’ve heard him talk about her and how helpful her program is, so now I think he is just getting paid to advertise for her. Jeff eats lasagna for breakfast. I need Teddi to stop me from buying large quantities of very expensive cheeses and deli meats online while swilling merlot.
Jenni wants to by a house and put hers on the market. I do not understand people who move when the do not have to. Moving is the worst. The house she and her husband are wanting to buy is the house that Jeff and Gage wanted to buy instead of Valley Vista but it was out of their budget at the time. I have a feeling, Jenni buying this house is what pissed off Jeff. The house has a pool and a tennis court and is very luxurious and it is almost twice as much as the house they live in now. Jenni pointed out that everyone told her to keep her guest house on her current property buy Jeff told her to tear it down and put in a pool. Jenni loves the pool. I was a real estate agent for about ten minutes in my former life and even I knew that pools take away from the value of the properties. Could that be the problem? Next week’s show is called something like “Destructive Advice.” I have a feeling that is what started off their entire feud.
The thing is they have to sell their house first. Oh yeah, this is going to be the problem. She won’t be able to get her dream house because no one with buy hers with the pool. I see how this all plays out now.
Meanwhile, Trevor and Liat, the couple that fired and then rehired Jeff to design their house are divorcing. Everyone is surprised and curious. Trevor insists on meeting with Jeff because he is the man with the bills and his wife is leaving him. It’s like Jeff is afraid of Trevor because he will tell him no and Liat never does. Trevor is super angry. It seems to be that Liat has been cheated on.

Teddi shows up to JLD offices and announces to everyone that Jeff is going to be cranky for a few days. Every morning he has to take a photo of his bathroom scale and send it to her, take a photo of the smoothie, and send it to her, take a photo of everything he eats and his workout and send it to her. No alcohol for the first two weeks. If at any time a photo doesn’t come when it should, he is kicked out of the program. Jeff offers to pay for Meghan to do the program with him. It’s”very expensive.”
The meeting with Trevor was pretty intense. I’m not sure if this thing with Trevor is real or not. The more Trevor talks, the more mental health needs he exposes. At lunch he actually randomly says that he is not crazy. Jenni said that he put Liat through a lot. Apparently Jenni and Liat are good friends so she is no fan of Trevor.
It’s time for Jenni’s Open House. So far people are loving the pool. They had a decent number of prospects. It’s time to wait and see.
Teddi stops by for a Day 7 check in with Jeff and Meghan. They both say it was rough at first but now they feel better. Jeff says he has zero sex drive on this diet and exercise plan and Gage likes that part. Gage tells Meghan he’ll pay for the whole year of her accountability coaching. I don’t really see any sexual chemistry between these two ever. They are more like two germaphobic asexuals to married to have someone to argue with.
We are forty-two minutes in and we have hardly seen Jenni at all. Remember was it last week or the week before when they skipped an episode? I’m starting to think that was because they had to go in and do some major post production editing to remove things for legal reasons. That would also explain why we have crappy photos this week from a crappy preview reel. I’m starting to think they are not going to show us everything that happened or even enough to know what is the situation was. We were supposed to have Lea Black come in and do some sort of office personnel interviews and that didn’t really happen. This is so confusing. I can’t pay attention to the show because of all the behind the scenes questions.
Oh, I forgot to mention Frankie posted several comments last night in the previous recap. Go here to read those. He’s not fond of Jeff or Jenni, obviously.
Jeff and Meghan go to lunch with Liat and some other lady and divorce looks great on Liat. Liat is almost as coocooforcocopuffs as Trevor is. Ah the two lovebirds have reunited and all is right in their Calabasas construction zone. Jeff compares his own lashing out at loved ones to Trevor’s recent behavior. He reminds us he went to couples therapy with Jenni. And with Zoila. This feels like it was filmed after the fight that broke them up. There is really no other reason for this luncheon.
The next scene is also a random lunch break at the house. While Jeff and Meghan have salads, the nanny has a waffle spread with Nutella and whipped creme. They must have cut out some serious scenes. Jeff and Meghan forgot to send a photo of their salads.
Jenni sold her house in one day and got to buy the house of her dreams (And Jeff’s former dreams). This scene also looks like it was put in post production.
I cannot stand that Jeff let’s the fucking cats walk on the table where they work and eat. They even do it while he is eating. I can’t stand it. Now it’s time to celebrate the completion of the two-week diet. Meghan signed up for another month.
I just noticed that Jenni will be on WWHL on Monday. Someone remind me on Monday.
Jeff and Gage aren’t married.
Did you not watch the preview? Lea Black is there and is starting the whole Employee thing. And looks like Jenni is left behind. They’ll show it. He was cleared by Bravo. Personally, I think it’s all a ratings ploy. Didn’t all the talk about the Jeff/Jenni thing come out right before it premiered?
The break was for that waverly show to air consecutively over 4 nights. Flipping out is the only new show that airs at 10pm right now on Bravo. Not a rerun. That actually changes Friday though as they have all new programming at each time slot. Their “home” night. Thus why Kim’s show has premiered yet. I’m guessing it’ll go back to Thursday’s as they have nothing there once Shahs is done.
“Personally, I think it’s all a ratings ploy. Didn’t all the talk about the Jeff/Jenni thing come out right before it premiered?” This is what I think as well.
I don’t think it’s a ploy, I believe it’s real and the two of them have extremely different versions of what went down. I can’t wait to see how it all pans out.
Do they? I haven’t heard a peep out of Jenny. What did you hear her version was?
I hope you’ll still be able to pip the champagne….there’s a possibility. Thanks for this recap. I’ve been obsessed with election returns while working at my computer. Will watch FO on “in demand” tomorrow.
Pop the champagne. Not sure how I typed pip. Maybe still pop. Will see. And hope.
Cat’s gonna do what a cat’s gonna do.
Jeff was right on with his advice to Jenni about her backyard in her (now) old house. I think in CA where they are, many many houses have pools and a beautiful yard and pool add to value. Either way, both houses are beautiful, but the new house is fabulous.
Why can’t I lose 10 pounds in two weeks by eating salads? I do think Teddi was right that as soon as they go off this extreme diet pounds return.
I love seeing how Jeff loves his pets. Shows a softer side of him.
I lived in California most of my adult life and I was always told by real estate folks that a pool in that state was a net neutral. People either wanted one or not, but it didn’t raise the price. On the other hand, a guest house is actual added square feet, and that is primarily how a house is valued.
Bingo. That’s how it is out here. It’s hot in Georgia but it actually decreases value. That said dinosaurs roamed the earth when I had my license and I wasn’t even old enough to drink and the market in Atlanta has changed immensely. All sorts of fools are carpet bagging their way in because they can build GINORMOUS houses here for pennies on the Yankee dollar. And now it is all about excess.
But yes, valuation generally happens on square footage. And I still think a guest house beats a pool any day.
I know squat, but my family works in property and according to one of their designers, the new “luxury” isn’t fancy fittings or anything, it’s unwarranted space. Like, a HUGE foyer or massive landings on your stairs. A large amount of space with no discernible practical use. Maybe a pool adds to the “luxury” factor they’re going for?
I live where the sun never shines. So a pool is just silly up here. BUT if I lived in the dry wonderful sunshine of southern California, I would be poolside all the time. It would be a must! The warmth in SoCal is very different from the South.
But a cat is not going to walk on my desk, kitchen table, or dining table with litter box feet. That is nasty. There’s a way to train a cat. You tell it no and off endless times and it eventually kicks in.
I have four kitties and they never ever get on my counters. I do let them have the table by the window cause I live alone and never sit there to eat so they know they have that area but the counters are off limits. They don’t get up there when I’m gone either because I would see evidence (hair) lol. I am surprised that Jeff lets them do that. I do really love how much he adores his pets though. The episodes where he lost Monkey and Stewie just about did me in.
Amen lady! I wouldn’t want to eat my lunch looking at a cat bum.
His cats eating on the counter always bothered too. Bet the employees don’t like it either. Who wants cat ass where they eat ? Yuck !! Loved my cats but hell no where my food is . Guy with all the $$ , scary scary jackass. Could tell jeff was biting him tongue. Love Gage. His facial expressions say it all. If megan couldn’t afford a week, how could she for a month ? Hope show is renewed, it’s my favorite besides imposters
That’s what I wondered too! How the heck can she afford it? Jeff probably is paying for it; he needs all of the friends he can get right now.
It’s $500 for the first two weeks, but $150 a month after that (I think, it might be every two weeks).
While a pool here in CT makes a house more difficult to sell, there are at least two states where the lack of a pool would make a house more difficult go sell–California and Florida. And the more expensive a house, the more necessary it is to have s pool. It would absolutely be expected that a multi-million dollar House like Jenni’s would have a pool. It would virtually be required.
I NEED TO READ THE COMMENTING RULES.
Surprised when Jenni told Trevor he gave Liat a hard time. This was a business meeting. I bet Jeff was angry and wouldn’t blame him.
I wonder if Jenni can afford that double the price house now that she isn’t collecting a Bravo paycheck?
Teddy charges $500 to sign up for the first two weeks, then $250/month.
The previews and commercials are what is being shown throughout the season.
Jenni’s husband is a doctor based in Chicago. They can afford a house that they rent out. They’re only there while she films.
Jeff is broken and he can never be fixed Jenni will do just fine.I hope bravo gives her local production job or another type of gig
Although Jenny seems like a lovely person and a great mother. I don’t find her having any real sparkle to her personality or anything engaging that would make for great television.
This is not one of my favorite shows but I watched for two reasons. One I wanted to avoid the wall to wall political coverage, my blood pressure is normal and I wanted to keep it that way. Two I have been watching for the Jenny fallout. So Gage doesn’t mind that Jeff has no sex drive ? Wow I guess Gage needs the financial security that Jeff affords him and now he shares a daughter. I don’t know what Gage did for a living before he met Jeff but I am sure he knows Jeff would fight him tooth and nail for custody of Monroe. Gage has everything to lose. That Trevor guy was pretty creepy, one of those, I have tons of money don’t mess with me types. It looks like next week things go bad for both Jenni and Meghan. Jenni has her dream home, marriage to a Doctor and two adorable daughters. I don’t feel very sorry for her. It will be interesting to see exactly what caused the blow-up though. Meghan looked so hurt and bewildered in the previews. Jeff can certainly be a shit to work for.
Did you really think Jeff was being serious when he said Gage didn’t mind he had no sex drive? He was making a joke.
I think Jeff needs Gage and that they love each other. I don’t get the hate.
It was presented as “a joke” but is was totally real. These two have had to take their fighting to the passive aggressive level since Monroe arrived.
I agree, I adore Gage and so does Jeff, they seem very close and happy. I don’t think Gage likes being on TV but he is adorable, and is a great parent to Monroe, Jeff would be lost without him.
That’s what I wondered too! How the heck can she afford it? Jeff probably is paying for it; he needs all of the friends he can get right now.
I presume Megan is getting paid to be on the radio show, since she’s on almost every one. I think Teddi probably did a deal with them to come on the show in exchange for being a guest on his radio show when he was having trouble getting guests. If I had the money, I’d do her program. I had an accountability coach when I stopped smoking and it worked great.
Can’t they just stop drinking, weigh their own selves, eat sensibly and be accountable to their own bad selves or a friend and save $500 to spend on Champagne and caviar when they get sick of that plan? Being from California, I hate to say it but ONLY IN CALIFORNIA would people spend all that money to be held accountable by someone (especially when they disobey).
As for pools, I only know that in NorCal, having a pool has made the house value go up OR down in for the last 45 years. Styles go in and out of favor, and depending on what kind of pool heating system, it can be very costly, which was undesirable after electricity price jumped. Some insurance companies charge a lot for people with kids and no fence around the pool. Sometimes the fences look ugly and that can affect the price. The BEST: I just met the gardener for the food bank community garden and he put a swimming POND in two of his places, kept clean by PLANTS ONLY, sited for optimal heat by direct sunlight. And he put in a beach at his current house. Way cooler than a pool. Wouldn’t Banjo look suave floating around in a pond?
Living in warm places for the past 18 years (Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Phoenix and Las Vegas), I won’t consider renting a house/apt unless it has a pool.
We literally use our pool every single day during the warm months and hot tub every day during the cool months. Our new holiday tradition is to heat the pool for Xmas and New Years or when friends or family come for a visit during the winter. It’s so decadent and fun to sip drinks in a 95 degree pool when it’s in the 40s or 50s.
We probably won’t be doing it this year since we’re both suddenly unemployed and poor. 🙁
I felt really sad after last week’s episode because it finally dawned on me how awful Jeff and Gage really are. They hate everyone! From the start of this show, it has been one firing after the other and the firings were all so heartless. Everyone literally walks on eggshells around Jeff. What’s terrible is that I really sort of love Jeff’s sense of humor at times, but I think it masks a meanness I wasn’t willing to really see. I disliked Gage when he first came on the scene but I warmed up to his quirkiness and his love for his daughter (love that he ordered all those expensive clothes for Monroe and was trying to hide it from Jeff). But Gage has no personality. He always seems to want to get rid of people way before Jeff makes the move to actually fire them. They are judgemental people and their jokes always have an underlying hatefulness. I feel disappointed that people like this are given a platform to make good money while spewing their negative energy out into the universe. We need more happiness.
I love Jeff, but I’ve noticed that as Jenni becomes equal in status and finances that he treats her “worse”, or is it that there is a distance. I do feel like Jenni is “acting” this season, trying to bring the one-liners but there is not intimacy there, not like there is with Megan. Maybe Megan is slotting into Jenny’s old role but she ain’t Jenni.
