The week is finally here for the tribes of David Vs Goliath to merge into one! I must say that this pre-merge phase has been nothing short of a pleasure due to the antics of some great characters such as Natalie. If you missed any of the hilarious recaps that I’ve done this season, go back and read them all here. In this post, I want to have a discussion about the remaining players and what they have to offer us in the coming weeks.
Alec: Remember that boneheaded move he made oh so long ago? Well, it appears it could definitely get him in trouble with the Goliaths if they end up keeping some type of majority. Why you might ask? Because Kara isn’t exactly a big fan of Alec, and she has the key to Dan’s heart who will undoubtedly be at the top of the food chain if Goliaths maintain control. This is a big IF though. More than likely, Alec could slip by if he keeps quiet and just goes with the flow. Or he might see the writing on the wall and jump ship early on…
Alison: Yes, she exists, and she sort of made her debut in the last episode when she explained why it would be important to get rid of Dan sooner rather than later. Will she be in the Goliath’s camp post merge or will she follow through on her assertion that her heart is with the davids such as Gabby and Christian? I think it will be Angelina who draws the line in the sand, and it will be interesting to see which side Alison steps on.
Angelina: Coming into the merge, we have one villain and that is Angelina! We know she’s an untrustworthy player that has an enthusiasm for strategy which means she is willing to backstab, blindside and fake others out in order to accomplish her goals. Unfortunately for her, because of #JacketGate, she’s exposed herself and her shady ways. Mike and Nick will be sure to drag her name through the mud post-merge leading to Angelina behaving like a declawed cat. Yes, she’s going to fight hard, but I don’t expect her to be very effective or be taken too seriously. Hopefully for our entertainment purposes, she won’t be dispatched too early!
Carl: Outside of the first few tribals, Carl has managed to successfully fly under the radar. I don’t see him playing very hard in the game, because it seems he’s only managed to maintain the same ally he’s always had in Davie (his early allies in Pat, Jessica and Bi are all gone). He does have the advantage where he can nullify a HII, but will he use it correctly? Will he tell someone else? I feel like it’s bound to fail to be honest.
Christian: If Angelina is our villain of the season, Christian is definitely the hero. He is quirky and lovable and has a great story to boot so far. The way he has navigated his relationships thus far has been really funny and intriguing, and this merge is going to test exactly how strong those bonds are. He has created VERY strong bonds with many people thus far: Elisabeth, Nick, Gabby, Dan and John, and I think those key relationships will carry influence from others. I think he survives, but not without making some fierce enemies and game moves in the process.
Dan: He currently has the biggest target on this back outside of Christian, which is exactly why they should stick together. He’s also arguably the most powerful person in the game with his two idols and people wanting to align with him for protection as the leader of Goliath. He has had a very lucky game so far with being on the strongest tribes, but we will see if he has what it really takes when it comes to persuading people onto his side. It hurts his case that people like Mike and Alison, Goliaths in their own right, are frothing at the mouth to get rid of him.
Davie: I LOVE Davie! He’s super cute, goofy and really easy to relate to. Outside of his intense conflict with Elisabeth, he seems to be someone that is really easy to get along with. He’s not afraid to get his hands dirt and betray others, and he also has an idol in his pocket which I think he’ll use successfully. I think initially, he will try to work with the Davids, but I also seem him jumping ship as soon as there are signs that it won’t work out long term.
Elizabeth: Our homegirl has been doing really well so far until her emotional blow-up in the last episode. That being said, she has proven that she is scrappy and no slouch in the strategy department. The way she planted seeds of doubt in Alec’s head to get Natalia out was pretty stellar gameplay. I think she’ll be a die hard Davids ally and this could end up being her demise later in the game.
Gabby: She has been a great competitor this season in the challenges, and as someone who’s kinda frail, I am proud of her for accomplishing so much. That being said, I’m EXHAUSTED of her crying! I want her to be a strong independent woman, and right now she is constantly falling a part. While this type of behavior is netting her allies like Christian and Alison right now, juries don’t tend to reward crybabies at the end of the game unless your mom is dying of cancer like Adam a few seasons back who btw I thought deserved to win so don’t fucking @ me in the comments please. I think Gabby has enough initiative to fight in this game, but her desperation could cause her to burn bridges in those key moments.
John: Our silent giant of the season: John is in a fantastic position to do well. I think he’ll be a prime target soon after the merge, but I think he’s so good at the social game that he can finesse himself out of any situation. He’s proved this in his ability to connect with people on a deep level. His downfall will be trying to keep Goliath 100% strong when there are several people such as Angelina, Mike and Alison who have no interest in anything except their individual games. Can you believe that I’m rooting for him to do well?
Kara: She has done a good job at making allies in the beginning and not being a prime target at tribal council. While she lost her closest ally in Natalia pretty early at the hands of Alec, I think she’s in a great position to coast during the first part of the merge. Unfortunately, I see her joining back up with the Goliaths and not really making inroads with other Davids which could lead to her not having many allies deep into the game when you really need them. The worst thing she could possibly do for her own game is go back up under the wings of Dan and paint an even bigger target on his back!
Mike: He has been such a lovable character all season long. I feel like he’s in sync with everyone on the couch watching the show. He says what we are all thinking, and it’s easy to relate to the struggles of his decision making. We’ve seen him in several key positions now, and I think that won’t change for the foreseeable future as he balances his allegiance to Goliath with his own individual game.
Nick: This guy thinks he’s playing Big Brother with all the nicknames he’s given to every single alliance. While I like Nick and his style of giving confessionals, I don’t think he’s exactly been that great at getting what he wants out of the votes. For example, he obviously wanted Angelina out at the last tribal council, but decided to follow Mike’s lead instead. He will have to make his own flashy big moves if he wants to garner the respect of the jury, and I think he’s very capable of doing such.
Things are looking VERY chaotic first merge tribal council. We have Kara/John/Dan/Angelina as firmly Goliath where as Carl/Elizabeth/Christian/Gabby are firmly Davids. That leaves a lot of players that could truly go anywhere between the two alliances such as Alec/Davie/Alison/Mike/Nick. Look for 2-5 of these players to be KEY factors in the first vote.
