Y’all this is so what they are going to replace Flipping Out with and I am oddly okay with the decision only five minutes in. Carson and Thom are the sixth designer team to attempt to redo Sherrie and Dave’s ginormous and completely empty living room as well as their grotto. I thought only Hugh Hefner had a grotto. Sherrie is very indecisive and terrified she will make the wrong decision and be stuck with something she ultimately doesn’t like. I don’t think they know what a grotto is. It’s literally like a back patio.
Thom sets a budget of $130K that seems pretty reasonable to me. Thom is the designer, Carson is just there to look good.
We have another client. I do not want another client. Apparently, I do not get a vote. Zenobia is married and they inherited the house from her mother-in-law. Zenobia is a psychic and will be consulting with the dead mother-in-law on the design. Oh for the love of God, really? They are going to create a parlor for Zenobia to do psychic readings. Zenobia wants to stay close to $5K for the budget. But first, a tarot card reading. She talks to Thom’s mom. It was very generic.

Carson is mostly doing Zenobia’s room. He heads off to Mood and I miss Tim Gunn. But Swatch is there! Hmm, there is another home remodeling show set to premiere in November on Friday nights at 8. I really am wondering what is going on with Don’t Be Tardy. It’s been completely ready and sitting on the shelf for quite a while now.
This is Carson’s first interior design project. I’m not a fan of the room but Zenobia loves it. They ruined the chandelier. I don’t like the teal and the orange. I love the gold scalloped wallpaper. I might need that in my life in small doses. Not for this house though. It needed to be in a small recessed area like it was in this house.
I don’t like the crazy wallpaper or the curtain fabric for the big house. I like the furniture. The clients love it. There is a very expensive blue/grey rug that I love. The walls and curtains look better with the furniture in place. I love the patio/grotto. It has an outdoor fireplace. Everything out there was soooo expensive but not fancy.
I like this show well enough. It’s good mindless Friday TV. I’m not sure if I’ll be recapping it though. What do you think?
Hello. Just watched it. I was pleasantly surprised. I have always loved Carson; he is hysterical. Also he graduated from same college as me, which is kind of cool. He and Thom are a great team. Thom the serious one and Carson providing the witty banter. Laughed a lot. And enjoyed the actual decorating. Did not care for Carson’s work in the small room. Lol. Wasn’t thrilled with the wallpaper or curtains in the 12,000 sq foot house either. However, the finished look was very nice.
Any idea where that house was? My god, so big. What does Dave do for a living?
Was feeling down tonight and this made me smile. Will watch again.
Would love your take and recap.
Omgggg. They are now showing first episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy!!! I loved that show. Excited to see it again. 😁
Husband was a surgeon and wife owned a PR firm.
Husband is a spine surgeon . I love Thom & Carson from Queer eye.
This show was delightful. I love Carson and Thom together. Great chemistry. It reminds me of a old Bravo show called On the Road with Austin and Santino. (Austin Scarlett and Santino from Project Runway) I’m setting it to record.
Oooh loved that show, they had few really awful clients though.
Carson and Thom are fun together. Wasn’t fond of the first design but it did come tigether.
The $130,000 design was fantastic. Loved the outdoor space. I’m question the $3,400 chair. I suppose you can’t give your client a chair that will fall apart in a few years and the owner did sit right down comfortably.
The white and gold wall art, I missed if there was a story behind it? It fit the wall perfectly, was it commissioned?
Those kids are living the good life.
TT maybe just give a brief view or comment of each segment, let your “friends” do the rest. It’s the type of show where it will need to be watched.
It would not be a Flipping Out replacement for me. Air the shows different months from each other so there is always a design show on. That’s what I’d do maybe with a small over lap.
Loved Austin & Santino show too….but don’t want Carson’s show to replace Flipping Out!!!!! Nooooo!!! Please No!!!
OK. I just watched Carson’s new show on a Sunday veg hour. Rerun. Love it!!!! I love Kenyata on this episode. She is a woman who knew what she wanted. She’s happy with their work! But….I still want Flipping Out to BE still!!!!
15minutes in and loving it!
My vote is yes, please recap 😃
I liked the show. Always loved Thom.
I agree the chandelier looked hideous and cheap. I liked the rest of the room with the exception of the geometric art on the wall. It just didn’t do anything for the design.
About the grotto, I thought a grotto was a cave. ???
I did like the living room. That woman just needs to get over herself.
I’m not sure you need to recap – but maybe just a brief description from the TV Guide before the show airs on the East Coast so we can discuss? It works for the Oscars 🙂
I do NOT see this as a replacement for Jeff and Gage at ALL. Completely different shows even if they are both in the “home” category.
I like that they had two different projects – one “cheap” meaning I can afford it, and one fantabulous one. Although I am not sure I saw the final product as “teenager hang out space” as they proclaimed. Maybe the ping pong table, but at least one other gathering space could have been either game friendly or movie friendly (although that big ass house probably has a movie room)
I liked the psychic’s room.
I am beyond thrilled to see Carson and Thom again. I loved them on Queer Eye, along with Ted. I get my Ted fix on Food Network though. Nice to see Carson and Thom back on Bravo.
It’s too bad that Bravo let Queer Eye go. Another bad judgment call on Bravo’s part. Allways enjoyed that show. It was always lighthearted and fun. Netflix revived it with a new cast and it is doing really well. Jeff may be end up there according to Gage.
Queer Eye with the original group would be just as fun now as it was then. Haven’t watched the new version.
i enjoyed the new show and wish that Bravo would rerun the originals in total now that Carson and Thom are back on with a new show. I think that the original are still relevant, and I loved the chemistry between the two guys on the new one. I enjoy that they are decorating at different price points and actually discussing their design decisions. A win!
They ran old Queer Eye episodes most of yesterday. They did not age well.
I also believe that this show will replace Flipping Out. Eventually I believe that Bravo will replace Andy Cohen with Jerry O Connell as host of WWHL. Just my two cents.
Loved the show! Why watch the Housewives if you can watch this? Personally, I prefer to laugh and enjoy a show and not be disgusted by a bunch of drunk, ill-mannered women.
Agreed! I have always said that the misogynist HW franchises will come to a crashing end sooner than later, and that Bravo had best be prepared for that. Andy will get re purposed at the network and may or may not have a talk show. I love the New York real estate guys but will take those shows any day over the HWs. All but NY, I love those ladies, warts and all.
Me too. I call Bravo the screaming ladies channel. I saw an episode of Flippping Out yesterday where Jeff was moving his Grandma to hospice. I cried. A lot. He obviously loved her so much, and how kind all the people working with him are with him about the circumstances. I enjoyed the humanity, and Lucy the dog.
I didn’t expect to like the show at all but I ended up enjoying it. I thought I was going to hate all of the bold colors together in Zenobia’s finished room but I ended up loving it too. I didn’t like anything the showed individually for either of the re-dos and when it was all put together I though it looked great. I have no design sense. The show was a nice Friday night watch.
Not even close to Jeff Lewis. The show was ok, didn’t particularly like either house. The grotto was nice. I do agree with Sharon that I would rather watch these types of shows rather than the Housewives. They are not entertaining anymore. Drunken middle-aged women acting like school girls and embarrassment themselves in public is not entertaining. Furthermore, Jeff Lewis is not replaceable and will always be a classic.
* Embarrassing * Anyway.. I like Jeff Lewis’s style much better. I like the clean lines and look of his designs can’t compare. The shopping for housing materials is wonderful to watch and learn about. Especially for this part of the country. I have learned a lot from Jeff Lewis.
Watched and LOVED it! You can tell that Thom and Carson really are good friends. I enjoyed seeing both the luxury and real-life priced projects.
I love Thom’s style and I ‘zuzh’ Carson–so funny. Keep it up!
I love the show so far, but not as a replacement for Flipping Out. The price of the orange curtains FLOORED me. $500+ and just some folded fabric with clip-on hooks! The exorbitant price must be the fabric, so the curtains should be lined because that color is likely to fade, as many fabrics with red do. That room was not my cup of tea (leaves), but the CLIENT was THRILLED. I would have taken those shades off the chandelier as soon as they drove away; I get it, but I think they cheapen the chandelier and the style clashes. The big house was divine; the grotto looked great but I did not see many places to put down a drink; the new round table was nice, but small. Inside, I especially LOVE the rugs and drapery fabric. And Mr. Peepers, the turtle (or tortoise).
It seems like we have the same taste in things. I couldn’t believe they put the tacky little shades over the antique chandelier in the psychic room. It was in great shape as it was! I didn’t see the point of a $1500 “golden turtle” that had nothing to do with the theme of the room though.
Right by the ping pong table, my toes hurt looking at it because God knows I would break a toe on something like that! (And iron legged furniture as well) 12,000 sf? I cannot imagine!
I love Carson, he just makes me giggle and giggle!
Mood is on my bucket list.
Steal Swatch for me.
NOT REALLY!
But give him a milkbone or something!
Did you get the impression that Carson didn’t know who Swatch, Tim Gunn’s costar, was? I am going to miss the Tim Gunn interactions with Swatch as much as his advice.
The turtle … I think it may show up on Craig’s List in the near future. I agree it had nothing to do with the room, but I like a bit of a whimsical visual non-sequitor now and then. As long as it isn’t paper hat shades on a chandelier!
I watched and I loved it .., I like the banter between atom and Carson .. wish they would only do one client and show more of the shopping/ design more
I also watched it, I liked the overall feel of the fancy house but I thought they overdid it with the wallpaper in the whole room. And it drives me a little nuts to see people waste money like that if I’m honest. Nobody needs to live in a house that is so big and costs so much. Having seen how much my surgeon got paid for 12 hours work earlier this year, maybe I am just a little biased against rich surgeons!
I almost think they could do without the cheap makeover. Not that $5k on one room is cheap to me. I mean you agree to go on tv and get your home made over by an expert and you get the unqualified guy doing yours?!
I agree about spending $5,000 for a rookie to do it … but Carson has a background in design. The same principles apply across many disciplines of design. But, still … $5,000 … yeah, a paltry amount compared to $130,000 for the big house, but a lot of money for a lot of us.
Thank you for highlighting the show! This prompt made me watch it…and I love it! Carson is comedy gold and Thom is his straight (not straight 😉 man.
Will definitely continue watching.
I think “psychics” are fake. It is relatively easy to read people and blather out these generic alleged comments from the dead. I think it is utterly cruel to screw with peoples’ grief. So manipulative. Oh, and I like the show. Carson’s innate kindness is refreshing.
I agree! Carson is a good guy. Would love to have him as my buddy/neighbor. Lots of fun he’d be.
I thought this was a fun show to watch and enjoyed the humor and banter between the two.
Although I cant even comprehend spending so much on the rooms, but enjoyed the process of the show.
I remember when HGTV used to have so many design and landscaping shows that did thing with the average budget in mind. Now most shows deal with outrageous budgets, most cant fathom spending.
If Jeff Lewis could do a design show and them not show his drama at home stuff, I think it would be great!
I thought both rooms had some great things done in them Maybe with your Carson?thom posts….interior design ideas will take over 🙂
Anyone else looking forward to Dirty John ?
I really enjoyed this show, Carson just makes me crack up. I just get a little furniture jelly being able to spend 4500.00 on a sofa, 13K on a rug, neither one would fair well in my house, so I will be sticking to my 899.00 sectional from Ashley and my 150.00 Wayfair rug
I loved this show and agree with the other commenters. Just post a blurb and we’ll do the rest. I was on the fence with the gold graphic wallpaper but I think at night, with lamp and firelight, that it would reflect beautifully and cozy up that ginormous space. I am looking forward to Jennifer Welch’s show.
Okay, I’ll be the odd one out… I liked the lampshades. I loved how they were painted yellow gold inside because I love yellow light. A couple of years ago, I started having to get up before dawn and found it really hard. I thought I might put a dim bulb on a timer to simulate sunrise. I bought an orange bulb and I loved the way it looked! I never did get the timer set up and eventually got used to the schedule. But we stocked up on the old incandescent bulbs because we can’t stand the sickly green blue light from the CF bulbs. Tried the new kind, and thought they were just as bad. So maybe the lampshades were tacky, but I think the yellow inside was a good idea.
LOved the show!! Good idea to do one high-end Andy one low-end. Carson and Thom are perfect together. Notice no one mentioned DBT?? BECAUSE NO ONE CARES!! AND WHY AM I YELLING LIKE SHANNON BEADOR?!
DO I NEED TO DO ANOTHER REMINDER POST THAT ANDY ISN’T A BRAVO SUIT ANYMORE AND IS JUST TALENT LIKE THE REST OF THE REALITY IDIOTS?
Also, did your leaves change colors because ours did not. Is Banjo allowed to stay in your hotel?
They are JUST starting to change. I think second week of November should be peak, it’s usually quieter than October, and YES!! I literally never check my email so shit-I guess I’ll start checking it. Or duh, I could send you one with the deets.
And I don’t think AC has anything to do with it. Just don’t see any interest in DBT. At all. By anyone. Ever.
Um, if I had your email address. You could look up the hotel and see what you think. We are #7 out of 93 hotels in Pigeon Forge. It’s nice but honey.
Best hour on tv All weekend, for me – Carson & Thom!! Their new show was entertaining & made me laugh. Carson ironing/making window treatments was too much! I have missed them, the original Queer Eye reruns are still fun to watch. Am here for Get A Room, thanks TT.
Love the show. Will watch every episode.
I remember when Thom Filicia transformed NYC’s Radio City Music Hall for HGTV holiday special.
He did a fantastic job. He’s a world class designer, yet, surprisingly, very humble.
Carson cracks me up.
Great entertainment for a Friday night.
