I am a bit late getting started because I posted some political stuff on Twitter which pisses everyone off, but I don’t care. I have to do what I think is right for my state and that means campaigning for my candidates. Y’all are free to vote for whoever you want to vote for. As I said there, my mother’s sole purpose in voting was to cancel out my vote. So I’m used to it. My campaigning for my chosen candidates should fuel you to vote for yours even more, especially if you live in my state. Georgia is showing up to vote this season and lots of us are not happy with our incumbents. Again, you do you! Campaign for your candidates, send them a few bucks. Show up to vote! It’s what elections are all about.
We start with MJ meeting with her lawyer about a prenup. Reza did not get one with Adam. I’m shocked and so is MJ. Reza says he will discuss it with her once Tommy finds out she is having a prenup written. Okay, I have never been married and always view it as a financial merger I really don’t need to do since I did not ever have children and now I am past childbearing age. But since, much like Bethenny Frankel, I KNOW IT ALL, and I would think this is something that should be done together with attorneys for both parties present and not by one party after the gown fitting. Am I right? Plus in California they have some pretty serious rules after a couple is married for ten years, so if I was living in Cali ( I just said that to irritate some of you) I’d try to nullify that unless I was marrying a rich guy and even if do have a prenup the California courts often override it. Because, Cali. Cali is becoming the new retard for me because people seem to be losing their minds over the word Cali in comments.
MJ says she wants to keep all of her money in the event of a divorce, but if his company becomes successful she wants half of everything he has. Well that seem totally fair. To Mercedeh. Le sigh. MJ thinks this is a very feminist prenup.
MJ’s delusional meetings with an on camera attorney are way more interesting to me than GG’s fake business plan. Nema is trying to get GOLNESA to grow the fuck up. GG with the knives is defensive.
Reza is a total asshole a lot of the time, but I really like how he is polite to waitstaff. I should have walked out on one of my long-term relationships very early on when I saw how he interacted with waitstaff and continued to do so during our way too long relationship. Anyway, he’s at a coffee shop meeting with Destiney and her PI. The PI gets there first which give Reza a chance to explain to us why this whole storyline is so weird. He says Destiney’s mom is trying to protect Destiney from the truth. Reza helps get Destiney get some information from her mother. This seems like a real thing.
Mike has no one left to film with except his father who suggests he grow up, get married and did I mention GROW THE FUCK UP AND STOP PUTTING HIS DICK IN EVERY HOLE THAT WILL LET HIM? Because I am sure that he must have said that too.
Mercedeh takes Tommy to a dog park, with the dogs, and some video cameras. Tommy just needs to say, okay, let’s not get married. MJ literally said the prenup has to be done seven days or more before the wedding for it not to be contested. So this is probably happening on like day 13.
Later, Reza and MJ got to spread Sham’s ashes. Reza compares it to his cat dying in his talking head. I’m sure it was traumatic, but this is just inappropriate. Even for Reza. They try to spread his ashes in the ocean from a cliff. Neither of them saw a problem with this. It’s call the ocean breeze that comes off of the ocean onto land. MJ eventually just dumps the ashes on a cliff. That seemed like A LOT of ashes. I’ve just decided I am donating my body to science. I’m not kidding. But I really don’t even plan to die in this country, so I’ll just end up somewhere. My parents bought me a burial plot, but my darling brother decided to keep it as executor of the will. He’s offered to sell it back to me. I’m not kidding. And my other sister died first and got planted in mine instead of hers, so really, who cares at this point. It’s not like anyone but be goes to the cemetery anymore anyway. I’m over it. Though it didn’t bode well for my relationship with my brother. Back to the ashes, they are pretty much covered in his ashes and Reza says, “He is pretty much all around us!” And inside Reza’s mouth.
It’s odd that MJ and Reza were inhaling Shams’ ashes on the night of GG’s big pot party event so neither one will be there. Nema and Mike continue to tell GG to give her ring back to whatshisname. There is only one reason for this. It’s rented. Because UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES does a wife return a ring to HER HUSBAND. The ring is a promise to marry. They married. Thus the ring is hers to wear in perpetuity or to sell or to flush down the toilet. IT’S HER RING. I don’t for a minute that moron had $165K for a ring. This is all bullshit.
Except, GG is really the face for a pot brand. Nema says that the relationship with GG is not one-sided.
Next week: WE FINALLY GET A SCENE WITH ASA. But honestly? I think it may be too little too late for this show. I don’t even feel rushed to recap it because I don’t think y’all are watching. The only thing that seems even a little real is the search for Destiney’s shady father.
What does Tommy do for a job ?? I don’t remember if it’s ever been told…..hello from the OTP of Atanta !! ?
Tommy Feight is the Marketing Director of Blow and Drive Interlock. A tech developing company that keeps our vehicles safe. He’s worth more than 5.5 million. Much more than anyone else on Shahs of Sunset. Don’t ya just love his subtle humility! 🙂
I just loved that he went to work like a lot of us humps and didn’t get to skip work to party! I LOVE that he is wealthy (I hope this is accurate info). HE should be the one getting a prenup!
I am cracking up already, haven’t read your whole post but the “Cali” has me giggling. I consider myself a guest of San Francisco in the mid 80’s and hate it when it’s refered to as SanFran…I love that city so hard, occasionally look a my old apartment in pictures and on Google, I miss it so bad. Really a bright spot in my life. Every person in my life knows I am to be sprinkled off over the Golden Gate Bridge. I know it’s not legal so it will take a few drive overs. All good, who ever does it will fall in love with the city like I did.
I’m curious why I don’t get an alert when you comment on twitter. Social media is on my learning curve…help!?
“Frisco” is really the nasty word! When anyone talks about San Francisco and uses it to describe their experiences there, I know it’s all a lie. No one who has lived in the Bay City would ever refer to San Francisco as “Frisco or San Fran”!
Amen!
Oh of course people do. Even those that have lived there forever.
Dilly check your hyperbole.
A little respect goes a long long way, Fynn!
In the late 60’s they did…..
There’s a lot in this one episode!
I’m thinking I should do some investments in the green industry….
Reza was a besty tonight to his girls. This side of Reza is so wonderful. I love it when I have to read subtitles to his native tongue.
No words regarding pre-nups. I do not live in that world. I have been burned by marriage. Of course my finances took a hit but my heart took the brundt. It changed my world. Money doesn’t fix that.
I am still watching!! I agree with you 100% that the ? is Never returned after the wedding…it belongs to the Bride!
I DVR Shahs every week. I’d rather be watching them than the RHOC! This season seems disjointed, likely due to all the editing. Thanks for the recap, speedy and on point!!
Poetic license to Steve Cropper and Otis Redding for “Frisco” (Bay) in “Dock of the Bay and to Gillian Welch for “Cali” in a song I love but with a title I cannot remember at this time. All others “must die, Put a sharp stick in his eye”! (With apologies to Mojo Nixon for horking a line from “Don Henley Must Die.”
Well, Reza showed his sweet, nurturing side again tonight and I loved it. It amazes me how much Persian women seem to be intimidated by their parents, but then the whole culture seems to revolve around respect for your family and your elders, which is not a bad thing. I was proud of Destiney for following Reza’s cues and not letting her mother get away with pretending she didn’t have any information. It would be so much easier if her mom would just tell Destiney everything she knows – it’s probably all going to come out anyway, so why cause more drama than there need be? There must be something really embarrassing that the mother doesn’t want revealed. Then Reza was in BFF mode again when he helped MJ dispose of her dad’s ashes. As if that weren’t enough, the cherry on the cake was him reminiscing about his beloved kitty. Very touching.
Speaking of MJ and her idea of a prenup! What is she thinking? Does she really think Tommy is going to go along with that? I’d be pretty close to being scared off if I were him.
I loved Mike’s Dad – what a charming man. Who is Mike kidding when he says he looks exactly like his father? In what universe is that true? The father is 100% more attractive, especially when he was Mike’s age, and Mike would be lucky to have 25% of his dad’s wisdom. Mike is not aging well – when people are screwed up and basically cruel on the inside, then it shows on the outside eventually.
GG? What a trip she is – you have to love her – she is what she is and it’s entertaining.
I wish Shervin would just come out and admit he’s trying to manipulate GG into returning the ring to Shalom, and nothing he says in is her best interests. Why do all the guys think she should do that? She married him and it didn’t work out. It’s hers. Case closed.
Great recap of a wonderful episode – love this show.
Always a careful, insightful comment..as usual.
Thank you. I appreciate that comment.
Now, upon seeing the scene w Reza and MJ, am in tears. Reza obviously loved MJ’s Dad, like family. She has a lot of support to help her at this difficult time. So glad to see that.
Reza also adored his 16 year old cat, Buzzy “the best thing he ever had”. These are heart wrenching losses, and I sympathize with both of them. They did not fake their grieving on Shahs. It comes through as raw and real. I lost my own Mom ? and I have Never gotten over it. Lost my dog after 17 years with him. Will not ever forget him…?
Great episode. So many of the scenes showed real friendship and feelings. Except for the whole Gigi story line (how many businesses has she claimed to run?). The scene is Malibu was gut-wrenching.
When I was 18 I met my first love who was Persian. He and his group of friends were actual orphans of the revolution due to being of the B’hai faith. We all lived together in Seattle and then L.A. for years. I immediately took to the language, culture and food. It all really suited me. I miss those times and so this show is actually really important to me. It reminds of very good memories and it’s the only time these days that I hear Farsi being spoken. So thank you for re-capping. 🙂
* I’m confused. What is the issue with Cali? LL Cool J made the term popular. In fact every time I drive to Cali I sing that song. Is that a problem???*
The problem with “Cali” is that many of us who were born in and/or spent time in California are:
A. Snobs (similar to “Berkleyer-than-thou” for people in Berkeley).
B. Old enough or educated enough to take umbrage to the shortening of everything. I hate “veggie” and when one of the Saviors on TWD hated a diminutive for vegetables, I cheered — even though he was an ass.
C. We hate change.
D. All, or none, of the above.
You may know that many people from N.Cal hate S.Cal and vice versa. I love both.
Now, if people think Californians are bad, talk to people in New Orleans, Baltimore, and Louisville and see how they feel about the pronunciation of their places!
I live in Philadelphia for 30 years and it was always pronounced Philly. . I guess I just don’t see the harm in that.
Born and raised in So.California, but lived in Northern California for a short period of time in my teens. Am always entertained by people on the internet who determine what things in CA “should” be called.
Good for Tommy basically say “You’re freaking nuts if you think that’ll happen”. Course he should know this by now. Tommy IMO is not one to play with like she thinks all the other guys were.
Mike, I just can’t with him. he never ever sees it as his fault in anything. Then when he said he and his father were the same I wonder if MJ saying his father runs around on his mother might not have some truth in it.
Dude, run do not walk, from GG before she eats your head off and not in a good way.
I was laughing AND crying when they were in Malibu! If we ever get to the point of spreading my grandparents ashes, I will have to remember we need to wade in the water or rent a boat. My aunt has some in one of my grandma’s vases and my Dad has some in grandma’s old spice jars.
I’m trying to remember when we scoop out the ashes if MJ’s dad seemed to have a lot. I think that is about right.
Oh, and I think you might have missed Reza mentioning that he was losing his shit over his 16 year old cat’s passing, so he could only imagine MJs grief being worse. But even if he didn’t mean it that way – I get it. My grands died in the same school year (I was teaching). While I was teary when I told the principal that I might need someone to cover my last class, etc. it was when I got the call that the family dog’s cancer was back that I completely lost my mind in front of her and started sobbing. I wasn’t even coming in to tell her – she just asked me if everything was ok when I was walking into her office for something else. I BURST into sobs. I WAILED. I’m embarrassed now to think of it.
Luckily she was a dog person and totally got that it was just the last fucking straw, and he was what got us through the nightmare of their being sick and dying.
Three words for my DVR–‘cancel this series’
The prenup conversation MJ had with her lawyer was made up for the camera. So fake.
Agreed. As someone who works in law, that could not have been more FAKE. (I refer to the process not the demands).
I’ve come to the conclusion that they all dumped on Asa last season because she’s the only one to use this platform to launch a successful business. I saw on her IG that she opened a brick & mortar retail space for Asa Caftans. You betta werk Asa! Looking forward to seeing her next week. ?
I’m losing interest but I watch for Nema, Tommy & GG. The former two because they breath much needed new life to this show. GG because she finally deserves an uncrazy edit.
I don’t mind Destiny, but I’m having a hard time separating her from the People’s Couch. I keep waiting for her sister to join her in a scene.
Asa also kept a lot of her life hidden from the show. Now that she’s a mom they are going to want to show her life as a mom. Asa and Jermaine don’t want to show the child’s face on camera. There really isn’t much to film of her anymore.
OMG! That is why she looked so damn familiar! doh!!
The scenes that are real, Particularly MJ with her dad’s ashes and Destiney’s search for
Dad make this show worth it.
However, the really fake, over the top scenes are why the show is losing viewers. On what world would Tommy sign that prenup?
And I didn’t know that you could rent a ring. That is crazy and funny and may be very real as it pertains to GG’s ring.
You are right, the ring belongs to the wife, whether or not there is a divorce. Mike has an over-inflated ego if he thinks he is attractive. He just looks like a thug, to me. MJ is so self-centered I can’t imagine why anyone would marry her. Also, what’s with the huge butt? Since when did a huge, flabby butt become sexy? It baffles me.
total agree!
In CA, nobody is required to have an attorney when executing a prenup, but the one or both who opt not to have to sign an agreement stating they understand they have a right to seek legal advise and are knowingly and voluntarily waiving that right. Also, Tommy’s separate property business (because acquired prior to marriage), would be valuated based on 1 of 2 formulas in the even of a divorce. Mj isn’t entitled to half of EVERYTHING, only during the marriage, if certain things are met. But I do agree with TT, they should get lawyers and work it out that way, especially because he has the business.
Love this season, probably because Asa’s not on not sharing, though I do fast forward GG’s business scenes. excited for MJ, but a bit delusional on the prenup issue, hoping that was more for tv.
My fave storyline is Destiney’s! I can’t wait to find out what happened to her dad. She’s so honest in all these scenes with her emotions and need for closure….and it has nothing to do with a romantic relationship.
I do think there is something endearing about Reza. I could see being friends with him but wouldn’t share anything I wouldn’t want put on blast. I didn’t like MJ until this year, I have seen a side to her that appears genuine, caring and empathic (not Vegas). It almost seems like the druken vapid side is fake. Unlike Reza, I don’t think I could be friends with her. The Prenup was a joke. I wouldn’t get married without one unless I had kids. If you have kids, the welfare of both parents is important for the greater good of the children. Choose wisely. I always liked Tommy and now I understand his quiet confidence and MJ’s prenup is even more insane (although why is he moving in her place, maybe they bought it together).
Like most people I didn’t like Mike. Now I actually feel sorry for him. He seems lost. I don’t think he has any idea of who he is or what he wants. He doesn’t seem good at anything. He’s probably a nice guy but he trys to hard to impress people. I hope something good happens for him.
Have a good weekend everyone. Let’s support Tamara’s site so she doesn’t wisk herself away to some exotic land and leave us alone to figure out what Bravo decides to vomit on us on a weekly basis.
@TT: I am curious about something in regard to Mike’s parents. Are they still actually married? The reason I ask is because earlier this season for their Persian New Year celebration, when anything was shown it was listed as, Mike’s mom’s house…and not as Mike’s parent’s house. Also, this year any of his scenes are with mom OR dad and not mom AND dad as in the past.
I live in Oakland, a few miles from San Francisco, and my son and all his friends call SF “Frisco”. I don’t correct them, but it does grate on my nerves for some reason.
I really like Destiny. She has made the show for me this season.
If I had to guess, I’d say MJ being a real estate agent, she owns all of those condos with her parents ( mother) and must have a prenup.
Did anyone notice that photo of a younger Shervin in last week’s episode? He’s definitely a member of the Family.
After MJ has this baby, I’m pretty sure we are ALL over this series. BRAVO has some work to do. The Housewives are pretty much done! We;re tired of the screaming and yelling. We expected so much more!
Loving this season! The food, the kindness, the scolding/nurturing of Mike. Please, Bravo, more of real life (yes, ok, it is not really real, but still)
I laughed until I cried with the ashes thing. And Reza discussing Buzz. That got me crying the other way. THEN MJ reliving Pedro’s passing (I still miss my chihuahua Pepe). Ahhh, the tears.
Destiney is terrific. Let’s put her in Charleston, SC for a summer and film it.
