Good evening y’all! Here we are again with our favorite Atlanta women and their spouses. We open with Toya and Eugene at the building site of their “forever home”, checking off their family “needs” like a two-story closet for Toya. Serious eye roll emoji. They discuss Toya’s disastrous dinner with Contessa and Eugene tells Toya how Greg came to the barbeque. Per Greg’s version, he’s doing all that he can do to work on things and Quad’s version is the exact opposite.
Jackie, Heavenly and Simone headed to Miami on the last episode. We pick up with them having lunch outside at the Royal Palm. Jackie and Simone banter and I have to say, their friendship is my favorite. To me, it’s the most authentic. Toya calls Simone and Jackie basically declines the call-she doesn’t want any of Toya’s negativity to jar the good energy they have going on. They discuss the ladies’ relationships established last year and how they’ve changed. Jackie feels like Quad hasn’t been able to talk to the group and that she just needs time to process. They head to Little Havana and Simone drives like a Masshole!! Hahaha. She has the road rage and lead foot most of us here are born with. Personally, I don’t see an issue with it but Heavenly is terrified. They go to a cigar shop where Jackie who was unbothered by the driving, fears for her lungs lives with all the smoke.
Quad meets up with her friends Mark and Abigail from the marriage focus group she and Gregory attended last season, and she tells them how bad things are with Gregory. Quad feels they want the best for both her and Gregory so she’s a little more open. She tells them that Gregory is blaming her for him cheating. Oh wow, they’ve been together for 10 years, married 6. They have a deep history and Quad doesn’t want to just let it go-but she won’t stay if she’s unhappy either. Abigail suggests they take time apart, live in different houses and really take time to think about what each of them wants. It’s sound advice and hopefully Quad takes it.
Mariah, Lauren and Aydin have a dinner date to discuss the birds and the bees at Lauren’s behest. Aydin really pushes Lauren to focus on school and tells us in his talking head that because of his culture, it’s super awkward to talk about sex. Five of his seven siblings are in arranged marriages. He thinks that Lauren should date when she’s in her second year of college lol. He really does seem like a great dad. Mariah tells Aydin that the girl he was dating before her looked like Heavenly and he doesn’t see it but caves to Mariah like most people end up doing.
Contessa preps for her surgery and the nerves are hitting her. She gets the kids off to school with gourmet breakfast in their cute little bellies and tells the kids how she’s having a procedure done so she may not pick them up for school. She downplays it to protect the kids from being scared. She is such an amazing mom and she’s doing this surgery for her kids so they don’t have to endure what she endured watching her mom suffer through cancer. I love her so much sometimes I can’t stand it. She’s just amazing.
Heavenly, Jackie and Simone get ready to go to the house that Heavenly grew up in. She has bad memories and though she loves Miami, it’s hard to be back there. From what she remembers, Heavenly was super sheltered and didn’t get to go out like her sister did because her mom wanted her to do great things and become a doctor. She and her sister Denise do not get along at all present day. Jackie thinks that Heavenly’s social skills were stunted due to her mother’s sheltering her. Her dad was stationed overseas in Germany for many years of her life and when he came home, he was very strict. Heavenly left the house at 17 years old and never went back. Simone sleeps in the backseat during this conversation and Heavenly kids her about sleeping through her spiritual journey.
Contessa’s dad calls to check in before her surgery and he wants her to call her after the surgery. Contessa is calm now that her dad called and Jackie sends her a sweet good luck text. Contessa had talked it over with Jackie when she was deciding on whether to do the surgery or not and she was supportive of her. Contessa is grateful for their friendship. Scott tells her how proud he is of her for making that difficult decision. Heart them both forever.
The ladies finally get to Heavenly’s childhood home and she tells the ladies that she doesn’t remember the neighborhood because she never went outside to play. She was heavy, had glasses and just didn’t experience enough childhood conflicts to learn how to resolve them as an adult. It makes a lot of sense and really gives insight as to why Heavenly is they way she is. Heavenly is nervous as she shows the ladies around. Her old bedroom was a tiny room with no windows. Wow .Her mom made her leave the lights on at night and thinks her mom was scared of the dark. She shows them the room that her father died in. He died in his sleep and it’s hitting her now that she just never came back to process any of it and blocked it all out. She’s having a panic attack and has to go outside. I don’t know about y’all but I have tears. They get into the car and she tells the ladies that her mom called her to tell her that her dad passes away when she was ready to take her final exams in freshman year of dental school. Jackie leads a prayer in the car and is proud of Heavenly for confronting the pain of her past.
Contessa goes in for surgery and Scott admits to us that he’s a nervous wreck. Being a doctor he has seen both good and bad things come out of surgery and just wants Contessa to be alright.
Heavenly, Jackie and Simone meet with three women whom Heavenly went to high school with. Heavenly won “Best Sense of Humor” in her class and everyone agrees that she used her humor to hide her pain. Her high school friends say that Heavenly had a sharp tongue back in school and Heavenly hasn’t learned to fine tune the sharpness of her honesty. She asks them if they actually like her and her friends say yes. She asks Simone and Jackie the same question and Jackie says yes, Simone doesn’t really answer lol. They go back to the hotel and Heavenly feels really happy to have them there. She has learned a lot and feels she can move forward in a positive way.
That was quite an episode! A lot to process with Heavenly’s revelations and Contessa’s surgery.
Next week: Contessa recovers from her painful surgery, and Quad and Mariah argue as Quad begins to open up to the ladies about her marriage. Looks like another fantastic episode! See you all next week!!!
