The bartender for this episode is Alyssa Edwards from Drag Race fame. Tonight, Friday, October 5th, Justin Dwayne Lee Johnson, the man behind the drag, premieres his new show Dancing Queen on Netflix. His show will follow his real life dance studio for kids. The program sounds a lot like Dance Moms with Abby Lee Miller with crying kids and bitchy stage moms. Alyssa will drop in on rare occasion to act as a fairy godmother to the young dancers. Stop making me want to get Amazon, y’all!
I do not think this show is going to get any better than Captain Lee’s reaction to Alyssa Edwards. It’s sort of a mixture of incongruity and bemusement.
First up for discussion is Chef Adrian. Everyone is already obsessed with him. Both Kate and Captain Lee rave about his unbelievable out of this world cuisine. I’ve never seen either of them hold a chef in such high esteem before. I says something that Andy brought up the chef before his obligatory montage of nekkid Ashton clips complete with porn music. He’s just not my type. I find the Kiwi much more delicious and manly. In a poll with all the male cast including Captain Lee, Captain Lee won with 54% of the vote, naturally.
Andy’s tie continuous to suffer from chronic Peyronie’s disease and is so distracting and annoying. Why can’t someone be in charge of his damn tie?
Despite never seeming to know Steve on his first charter, and being less than complimentary to Steve on the Captain Lee special before this season started, when Andy specifically states that Captain Lee is “old friends” with Steve, Captain Lee answers, “Yes, he’s a friend.” And then goes on to say that Steve’s whole life is one big party. Steve owns a bunch of luxury homes in Mexico and I am sure after his crappy behavior on his first episode three seasons ago, I’m guessing that the offered them to Captain Lee and his family for vacations. So sure. He’s a “friend.” Captain Lee has never seemed to enjoy is presence on the boat however despite Captain Lee saying that they are still friends when he left the boat. I’m just saying I don’t think he will be invited to Captain Lee’s Thanksgiving.
Kate as we know is good friends with Hannah so she defends her abhorrent behavior last season. She also says that ever stew tells the chief stew they feel like they are doing all the work because they don’t know what the chief stew does. The poll shows 92% would rather have Kate as chief stew than Hannah. Captain Lee seems thrilled for Kate. I mean Hannah’s behavior this past season was certainly no high bar and I would have voted for Kate too. In the recap of the last Below Deck episode with Foam Party Steve I was wishing exceptionally bad things on Kate and that was the season premiere. Perhaps it was just all of those criminal charges at the time.
Finally, Andy is going to try to pit him against Captain Sandy. Now usually, Captain Lee would not say a bad word about another Captain or even give a differing opinion, but this past season Captain Sandy was so out of line that he did occasionally point out that he would have done things differently so this might be interesting. First up was her sparkler meltdown. He says that the fire alarms are very sensitive on the boat and they have done them before on his boat (in fact I believe they did them for FPS on episode one this season). He says they are not a big deal. He’s sort of speechless about her getting a sex toy on the boat. Captain Lee is fine with the crew sleeping together as long as it doesn’t interfere with their jobs. Kate says, “Good to know.” as I expect her to have a crewmance this season. They did not ask him any questions about the main issues I had with Sandy and how she dealt with crew.
Hot Jesus and Kate are still in touch and he has invited her to Dominica (a Caribbean island just north of Martinique). Guess she will be headed that way soon. I know I would be. Well in a bit after hurricane season dies down. Andy asks if she is strictly dickly these days, alluding her tumultuous relationship with a hot chick, and she says she is.

Captain Lee says he would never want Rocky as a crew member. I LOVED ROCKY! She is probably my favorite Below Deck of all time. Captain Lee breaks down the off camera crew that is on the boat.
Captain Lee says no amount of money gets people out of the rules like not wearing life jackets or heels on the deck.
They play a cute game with Kate and Captain Lee’s wife Marianne answering personal question about Captain Lee. Both know all the answers but Marianne knew his big pet peeve was disrespecting the crew.
Jerry O’Connell recently picked Captain Lee up from his hotel in LA and took him to Tom Tom. It was a mutually starstruck situation. Captain Lee’s son says the reason he doesn’t watch the show is he knows how his dad is and it is like watching home movies without him in them. Andy says his parents went out to the movies last NYE when he was on CNN hosting the countdown with Anderson Cooper.
What did you Kate’s look on WWHL? I thought she looked great. But she didn’t look like herself. I like her natural look better. I suppose I get that at WWHL they have the whole glam team there so why not make use of it. What’s your opinion?
There was no aftershow.
The WWHL glam squad tends to go a little overboard…no pun intended…with the contouring. Most of the female guests look like they were contoured with a Hershey bar. I feel the same way when I see OC Gina in her talking heads.
The game with Kate and Mrs. Captain Lee was cute.
Like the two black eyes they gave Carey on Dallas Housewives talking head.
@JeepGirl: I forgot about Cary! She does look like she was punched in both eyes and the bruising has started.
Ms. Priscilla NYC does most of the glam for WWHL and is amazing. I think that is the best Kate has ever looked.
MPNYC also does all the housewives. She’s an artist for sure.
The dramatic smokey eye is too much for real life. But PERFECT for TV, especially late-night and for clubbing or going out for something from the LATE SUPPER MENU!
I looked and looked for an aftershow, thought it had been taken down for some reason! Thanks to TT for the info. I LOVE CAPTAIN LEE!
I thought the same about Kate’s look. I loved the episode. It revived my interest in BD.
so Did you like it or not? Tt was atypically ambivalent. I did not like it-too stark.
I thought that technically she looked great. If I had never seen her before I’d think she looked great.
But since I’ve seen her look better with less….everything… I thought all the extra hair and heavy makeup and serious contouring detracted from her natural beauty.
I agree too much contouring, too much hair, make-up made her look hard. She doesn’t need all that. she looks much better with a more natural look. Overdone.
look is kind of mannequinish.
Yeah this is sort of what I was trying to say. It reminded me of facetuning.
I loved Ben and I’m sure he was upset to hear that he’s been replaced as Chef Extraordinaire by Captain Lee. Adrian is awesome, though. This will be a great season!
I can never tell enough people what a dick Chef Ben is. He’s a horrible human.
How do you know??? Firsthand?
Yes, she knows first hand. Note her screen name. And she is not the only person I have heard first hand accounts from regarding Ben.
Thanks TT. Yes, first hand on many occasions.
The first time I met him he told me to fuck off.
Would he make like LVP and say, “I’m British!”?
Thanks for the confirmation! I’ve always felt his dickishness was apparent from the get-go and I never understood everyone’s infatuation with him…also, the spiky hair? WTH?
I think every woman looks better on WWHL. Sometimes shockingly so, and I think that’s true of Kate. I wonder if it’s the lighting or the make up crew or both. It’s like they have filters that smooths out their skin to perfection. The housewives should learn to just say no to outdoor scenes as EVERY little flaw is spotlighted.
Was the comment by Capt Lee about high heels a dig at Capt. Sandy? Because I thought it was outrageous she allowed her friend to wear high heels on a luxury boat when everybody knows it can really screw up the floors.
Oh HELL NO! Don’t even give them a glimmer of refusing to film outside. They’ve got enough stipulations as it is.
Just thought of an idea for a show — ala People’s Couch. Have a group of Regular Joes(ephines) go on the trips the RHs have gone on and see what NORMAL people do in the situations. Bravo would need to provide the money for shopping.
I’d love that BUT no one cares about normal people. They need OTT behavior to sell shows these days.
Ditto. Kate looked amazing! And . . . why did Sandy break the “shoe rule”? Still can’t believe Hannah was on her hands & knees cleaning up the ridiculous mess with the seltzer water and the edge of a spoon at 2:00 a.m. when she should have gone to bed, hired a professional carpet cleaning crew the following morning, and delivered the bill to Sandy! Hannah made a lot of mistakes last season. Sandy’s intimidation tactics didn’t help! Still don’t understand why Sandy attacked Conrad during the reunion If private yachting and charter yachting techniques are so different, then why wasn’t Conrad privy to (at least) the same level of training/praise Kasey received. Conrad didn’t lie on his resume!
I love to see Captain Lee with Marianne. I love their loyalty and how open they are in talking about their relationship.
I can understand Captain Lee being friends with Steve, but also not wanting him around in a professional environment. I have a friend who is very different from me and I love being with her to shop or hang out or do crafts when it is just the 2 of us, but I don’t like being with her at parties. She has social hang-ups that make her obnoxious in a group setting and I cringe watching her with other people because she misunderstands situations and starts fights. She also acts like she’s 15. But at the same time, she’s a good friend.
Captain Lee and his wife are such a beautiful couple, and it was nice to see her on WWHL. Seeing Captain Lee in action only points out the huge differences between him and Captain Sandy. She could learn a lot from him.
Even though I do have a tiny soft spot for Ben at times, I was stunned to see the upgrade in the food that Adrian sent out compared to what Ben creates. It was visually stunning and the portions were much larger. I sometimes used to think that Ben’s entrees looked much more like tiny appetizers. I can see where Adrian’s training and experience came in, plus his demeanor is a lot more pleasant. Good job, Adrian!!
That Steve guy is horrendous. The way he squealed when the guy came out in the Cupid “diaper” was ridiculous. He sounded like he wanted to scoop him up and eat him with his fingers, then lick them afterwards. And we’re supposed to believe he’s straight? 60 years old, never married, far from manly, and then acts like that? I don’t think so. He’s such a childish, impetuous, boundary-lacking, self-aggrandizing, self-indulgent, gross little man. You know, there are good examples of how money is wasted on the rich, and he’s Number One.
Kate looked beautiful – great makeup job. I’m so looking forward to the rest of the season. Missed you Captain Lee! Glad you’re back.
I thought Kate’s answer to the lower stews confronting Hannah was diplomatic and brilliant. She was defending her friend, but understanding to the other two. She was RIGHT. If that had been a real situation (without cameras, etc.) well, Kasey’s ass should have been grass and Sandy helping Hannah be the mower.
Plus, we know from past seasons with Kate there is a tremendous amount of work in terms of restocking the stew’s pantry, planning special events, etc. even if they aren’t over the top themed as much as Kate does.
I also thought it was cute that Kate kept muttering that she did not want to win that contest!
Has anyone watched Dancing Queen on Netflix yet – if so would you recommend it?
Dancing Queen is a cute, easy watch with Alyssa, but she was my favorite (and fellow Texan) on drag race. Def. nothing like Abby Lee Miller-:(
I thought Kate looked “refreshed” in the first episode. I’ve always thought Kate and Kim Z lied about their ages, though I’ve seen the contrary here and elsewhere.. Eh.
Kate and Jeff Lewis are my favorites on Bravo these days. Snarky, bitchy goodness.
I love Capt Lee having his wife on with him. Good stuff.
