Married At First Sight: Down To The Wire

October 3, 2018 by tamaratattles 19 Comments

We don’t get a lot of comments on this show but it never fails that people want to comment on the latest episode before I have time to watch it. That’s already starting so I’m going to recap it now.

Group Meetings

With less than a week to go, we’re having a boys night out and a girls night out for the participants to check in with each other and do some bonding. Tristan has called in sick to boys night, but Mia is expected to attend the girls event at Amber’s house.

Bobby shows up with Danielle and then he and Dave head out for a night out on the town. Danielle wonders if Tristan is really sick or if he is just over it all. Mia tells the girls that she has moved half of her stuff back in with Tristan. She says it doesn’t feel the same. Danielle and Amber are both very supportive of Mia and not very fond of Tristan. This explains some new person trying to comment today in the old post about how Mia is some victim of the evil Tristan and saying that she didn’t believe Mia’s charges were real.

It’s amazing the things the casual views believe in these situations when they haven’t seen and read the police reports. But still, they did see the police come and pull her off the plane and the counselors comforting Tristan when his wife was in jail. She also lied to Tristan about the majority of that situation. Danielle and Amber don’t know what happened so it is understandable that they are taking Mia’s side, but they don’t have all the information. Even Tristan doesn’t have all the information at this point. Mia is the one that broke trust, not Tristan. Amber at least has some compassion for Tristan. Amber talks about her insecurities. Now she is worried that Dave may want a divorce. Of course, Danielle says everything is great.

Dave and Bobby go on a man date for beer and tacos and Giant Jenga. They are not sure if Tristan is sick either. Dave says he is not sure that Tristan is ready to feel the heat for kicking Mia out. I think Dave would have kicked Amber out on the first day if he found out she had warrants out for stalking her ex from just a few months ago. Bobby gives the usual things are great speech to Dave and it pisses Bobby off. Dave backs off and talks about the issues with Amber. Dave says he is squarely on the fence about decision day. It could go either way and he currently isn’t leaning one way or another. That sounds almost as unrealistic as everything being perfect. He does say he is not sure yet if Amber is his forever partner. Bobby’s interviews make me feel like Danielle is setting Bobby up for a shocking decision.

Mia and Tristan

Mia comes home from girls nigh with Gatorade and tulip bulbs. Tristan really is sick. Mia takes care of him and that makes Tristan happy.

Mia gets last minute advice from her mother. Her mother says trust is a big thing. I doubt her mother knows anything about her stalking charges. He mom seems to really like Tristan. Her mom seems to have really come around to accepting Tristan and the fact that her marriage should now be her first priority over her parents. Tristan talks to his friends Goober and Marcus. When is doubt, seek advice from a guy named Goober. Tristan says Mia really is fighting for his marriage and he likes that. They like Mia but they don’t feel like she has been truthful with him and every day there is a new issue. Tristan is clearly learning toward divorce but at the same time doesn’t want his marriage to fail.

The Road Trip

When Mia does her confessional about the road trip she is completely unenthusiastic. I get the feeling this was filmed after the road trip. These two are going to Austin, the city of weirdness, which seems appropriate.

Things start off bad right away. Tristan is pissed about something. He finally tells he that he talked to Dave and he told him that Mia told everyone that he threw her out. She neglected to mention the part where she said she didn’t want to be there anymore and he told her to leave if that is how she felt. Weirdly, these two are being driven to Austin. This gives them plenty of opportunity to focus on fighting. Tristan has a confessional where he is finally angry and fed up with Mia. There is no more room for working things out. He seems done. They might not even make it to Austin. Apparently, Tristan was driving and the car was on auto pilot or whatever’s called. I hate that. That would give me anxiety. Keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road when driving.

When they get to the hotel, Tristan is still pissed and Mia has been crying for the last hour or so of the drive. I think it is clear this relationship is over. They go to bed mad on opposite sides of the bed in full clothes.

The next day, Tristan wakes up alone. Mia has packed her bag and left the hotel. Tristan says that Mia had a panic attack the night before he went to console her and brought her back to bed. He rubbed her back and fell asleep. She woke him to and told him she wanted a divorce. She packed her stuff and left. He called the other couples and no one knows where she is. Um, I do. No one gets on the road in the middle of the night. They go down to the desk clerk and get their own room and bill it to production.

Amber and Dave

Dave is mystified by Amber’s skin care process. He should not be observing how the magic happens at all. Why is she allowing this? He should just assume she wakes up like that. In the talk to the family scenes, she calls her sister. Dave’s friend tells him that his actions need to say to Amber that he is attracted to her. His friend likes Amber for Dave and hopes it works out. His friend suggests flowers at work. His friend is smart.

The Road Trip

There two go to San Antonio. We didn’t see their trip there. They have a beautiful suite with champagne on ice. Dave reminds us that they have had sex every single night since they got married. That should surely relieve some of Amber’s insecurities, right?

These two’s storyline was basically about Mia and Tristan. Mia told Amber that Tristan said he was leaving to go back to Dallas. No one knows who to believe.

Danielle and Bobby

Danielle still hasn’t told Bobby she loves him yet. Bobby meets with his family and they are all behind this marriage. I still feel the shocking decision edit in play. Maybe it is just that these two are a no-brainer and they are trying to make us feel like it might not happen just like they keep giving us hope that Tristen and Mia will happen. They also seem to be setting us up for a possible pregnancy scare.

The Road Trip

These two are going to Broken Bow, a beautiful campsite nearby. There conversations in the car seem mundane other than a minor disagreement about whether bears eat chocolate. The truth is, bears do eat chocolate, and it is toxic and causes bear deaths. Thanks. Google.

They are staying in a really nice cabin. They are glamping. Their monotone conversations make me sleepy. Danielle never says what she plans to do on decision day in her confessionals.

Next week: Mia returns. The couples discussion their feelings before decision day. It looks like we have at least two episodes left.

    I’m watching.
Tristan seems sincere but foolish. Mia has a flat affect and her tone is devoid of emotion even when she is supposedly excited or happy.

I feel sorry for Tristan, he seems to be sincere but foolish. She is manipulative and spins situations to suit her interests–all the while maintaining her flat, expressionless face ( caused by meds, perhaps? NTTAWWT).

David and his decision will be interesting. Why does he keep mentioning their sex life? That is strange to me. Is that the best thing about being married to Amber? “She’s a little crazy and very insecure, but at least we have sex every night”.

The other couple : I hope she doesn’t break his heart. He seems like a good catch, sincere. I think she will regret it if she decides to divorce to him.

Though I’m not watching, just by reading your recaps, here’s my take.
Tristan and Mia need to break up
The ” Everything is Fine” couple are hiding something
    Dave needs to run too.

Mia has really, really rubbed me the wrong way all season. But now, Tristan did seem to clearly throw her out and then said he didn’t. They just need to stop getting back together, this is just absurd at this point. They may very well both be terrible.

Dave and Amber…shrug, they aren’t the best fit and at this point I could see them going either way. They might give it the old college try for awhile after the show and then end up divorcing within a year.

Bobby and Danielle definitely seem like they will make it, but what of those early on previews that showed Bobby flipping his lid? I’ve heard nothing of this again. There’s definitely a part of Danielle that seems fake and disingenuous and I’m not talking about her brows and lashes. Bobby seems more ‘salt of the Earth’ but he seems to really worship her.

Her brows and lashes are the worst, like her friends need to tell her that is not okay! I’m from Texas, and am a firm believer in lashes, but girl, no.

I feel like Bobby is just happy someone is having sex with him, he doesn’t seem like a guy who has had that much action.

Her eyebrows just bother me so much. But Bobby is smart and says nothing…..at least not camera. She clearly puts a lot of effort (and sharpie pen ink) into making that happen. I bet she is dying to hear him say “Your eyes are so beautiful”. I wonder if he says that.

I am always amazed at what people will do to get on reality t.v.. So curious the first season: Can professionals really make a better, more successful match than us incredibly flawed humans can do on our own? Nope . . . What? One successful match still remaining after four/five seasons?

I just want to be sure Tristan makes it safely home without a restraining order. Run Tristan . . . run! :/

I’m watching. I think that both Tristan and Mia are at fault but… most of the issues stem from Mias arrest and alleged tinder account. However, Tristan does not know how to speak to her or how to discuss without fighting.

Amber is too insecure, I wonder if she changed her hair color to keep Dave ( I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks).

I like Bobby and he gives 110% but Danielle seems to be enjoying the perks of a hubby without having to put in too much work.

    I’m watching …
IMHO Mia spins the lies to fit her needs
Amber .. she should try wearing a brunette wig for a week
Danielle ..something is off with her
Tristan .. nice guy .. forgave the wife’s lies
    Dave .. snooze fest
Bobby – tries too hard to emulate his parents marriage .
My bet is they all say yes on the final decision day … in a year ,, Tristan and Mia will be divorced
    Great re-cap!

OK, I was really into this show for the first 2-3 episodes but Mia ruined it for me. That’s not really fair to say, because I don’t like Amber or Danielle too much either. I don’t think any of these couples should stay married, especially Tristan and Mia. He seems like a really genuine nice guy, who wants his marriage to work and he deserves someone who’ll tell him the truth, not play constant games. From the very beginning, with the arrest at the airport, she has been living a lie. First, she acts like it was all a big mistake and it’s done with, then, after her release, she comes back to him and the hotel room and dissolves into his arms, as though she needed protection from the terrible mistake that had been perpetrated on her. She lies through her teeth about the circumstances which caused her to be charged and end up with a warrant, as anyone who’s read the police report knows. She was a crazed stalker, who misused her ex’s credit card, and didn’t know when to give up. I agree with Tamara, I don’t believe her family has a clue either of exactly what she’s done in the past. She’s probably pulled the wool over their eyes since she was little. Then, every time she gets together with the other wives, she makes Tristan look bad. Jamie (on the show where they interview the participants) obviously knows what really happened, and I get the impression she has no time for Mia. If I were Tristan, I would want to read the complete police reports. I don’t care about trust and loyalty at this point, this is someone he still barely knows who started off their relationship with a huge lie. To plan on a lifelong partnership with her, given his (as far as we know) lack of the facts, is just foolish. I can’t stand her and would like to see him with a woman who’s truthful, forthcoming and isn’t into manipulating every situation to make herself look better.

Danielle and Bobby? There’s something not quite right there. I get the feeling she’s going through the motions and I wouldn’t be surprised either if she dumped him. Of course, editing is a very misleading thing, and they might be giving very subtle hints to lead us in the wrong direction.

Amber and Dave might be having sex every night, but that’s not going to keep them going forever. She’s way too shallow, vain and spoiled to make a good wife, let alone a mother. I think he also deserves better.

Basically, I dislike all the wives, and feel sorry for the husbands, all of whom seem much too nice for the women they got stuck with.

I’ll be very surprised if they all stay together, and even those who do aren’t likely to be in it long-term. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the recaps, Tamara – without you I wouldn’t know what was going on. Still, despite all I’ve missed, I will watch the last couple of episodes. Maybe I’ve had this all wrong from the start..

Mia has a slight mental problem. I believe she is on some type of meds. I also believe that her and Tristan have not have sex at all. He is frustrated….Mia never kisses him in front of the cameras, but that may be a cultural thing.

Amber is too insecure. I think Dave will get bored with her. She is somewhat dumb-blondish. No conversation and he needs someone more challenging.

The last couple will make it. Danielle and Bobby will make it. Danielle just has to become more intimate.

I agree, I don’t think Tristan and Mia have had sex. They have zero chemistry. When Tristan seems to go in for a kiss, Mia ducks her head down so he kisses her head all the time. Yeah, he’s tall but there is zero chemistry. That whole donuts fantasy thing was weird. She showed no attraction toward him. Even Bobby and Danielle who are so vanilla it’s sickening, have some chemistry.

There’s no depth to Amber what so ever. Her thought process about retiring at 55 is a prime example.

I’m watching!! Don’t let the lack of comments result in not recapping the show.
Dave and Amber are definitely going to break up. She’s a nut and very insecure. He can do better. I hope that Bobby and Danielle make it because they seem like nice people and pretty well suited for one another. What’s up with Danielle’s eyebrows though? Is that magic marker? Why so dark??
Mia and Tristan are definitely going to break up. Too little trust going on there.

What “cultural” thing re: Mia and Tristan? SHE LIED FROM THE GET GO. Tristan should have walked right then and there as this was doomed from the start. And she seems sketchy to me anyway, and that’s not even including the stalking charges, theft, arrest warrant, etc. Tristan deserves better and Mia deserves nothing other than a few years of very intense therapy with NO BOYFRIENDS in the picture. Divorce.

Amber and Dave? Seriously? Why would she go through her face washing ritual? How boring. She is very insecure and needy. It’s exhausting. Dave doesn’t seem like a bad guy. His friends seem normal. I don’t remember seeing any of her friends. Did I miss them? I don’t see them making it. He knows deep down it won’t work, and she can’t get over herself. Divorce.

Bobby and Danielle? I’m sorry, but her eyebrows are so distracting I can’t really focus on anything else. Something is off with her. But I think they’ll make it… for now.

Yeah, Amber’s friend and her husband had dinner with them. Her friend was beyond obnoxious.

Eyebrows – exactly. They were almost cartoon-ish this episode. And yes, something is off with her.

I’m watching TT. I started watching the show because of your recaps.

I really dislike all of the wives but if I had to stomach one, it would be Amber. She’s a bit loony, shallow, and insecure but, I can’t deal with Mia’s childlike mentality and her lies. Danielle is a cold fish and just seems so smug about everything. I’m not buying the “everything’s perfect” from either of them. As someone posted in the comments, Bobby is striving for a marriage like his parents which is great. But, he seems to be the only one giving. It’s like he’s in overdrive to make it work. If it works for them great, but the cynic in me thinks it’ll get old.

Mia is really a piece of work. I don’t think she knows how to function without conflict. Some people thrive off of toxic shit. I feel sorry for Tristan b/c he got the raw end of things. But he also seems really immature in many ways.

I don’t think Dave and Amber should stay together. I think Dave keeps saying they have sex every night to convince himself that the marriage could work. Good luck with that one.

I’ve watched all seasons, first time poster.

Mia and Tristan – he should have ended it at the honeymoon. She has continued to lie (remember dating site profile his friend spotted)? She is childish, she is always hanging on him without real affection. She turns away when he goes in for a kiss, or it’s on her head. I don’t know it’s just weird.

Danielle and Bobby – these two will probably make it and I hope at decision day she will tell him she looks few him. When she got home from her business trip she was all over the dogs then finally went to her husband, like an afterthought. He wants everything to be modeled after his parents, but she doesn’t want children yet and she wants to keep working.

Dave and Amber – he is hot. She is one of the most insecure people I have seen. And clueless. How did she live alone before? She obviously didn’t cook or do anything else domestic. It would get really old coddling her and telling her he is attracted to her. And they’ve had sex every night for 40 something days?? Good grief

Mia is a trainwreck who doesn’t deserve to be trusted. It is a freaking miracle (or a contract with a TV show) that Tristan stuck with her this far. Mia is trouble.

HOWEVER, we all saw Tristan put her out of his apartment last week. There is no denying that he did that. Even if they were fighting about moving to Houston, he was the one who gave her an ultimatum and put her out that very night. This is not Mia making Tristan look bad.

I would respect Tristan so much more if he would just own that he has had enough of the BS and doesn’t want to play anymore. I wonder what the penalty would have been for him to break the contract.

Amber’s hair is so dry and damaged. It would soak up dye like a sponge and would end up looking much nicer if she went brunette. Still wouldn’t get her husband to be attracted towards her. In his mind he is a 10 and deserves a 10. I would hope these experts start taking a closer look at that kind of stuff ……because attraction is a big deal. The things I like about me are the things I want my partner to see and like too. Amber loves her overly bleached hair. Loves it! It is a huge deal for her. She needs a man who will love it too……without her having to ask or drop hints. He needs to literally meet her at the first sight alter, marry her, and after saying “I do” the very next sentence out of his mouth needs to be “I love your hair!”.
