Southern Charm’s Thomas Ravenel Has Been Arraigned On Assault And Battery Charges

Trigger Warning: Graphic Details of Sexual Assault occur in this article.

Thomas Ravenel was arrested today for assault and battery. Click link for those details.

Thomas Ravenel was arraigned just after 2 p.m. today after spending four hours in the county jail. Ravenel appeared via video conference. Thomas was represented by Attorney Cameron Blazer who asked for Thomas to be released on a personal recognizance bond. In other words he would not have to put up any money as bail.

The victim, Dawn, was in court and told the judge that the crime is more than assault and battery, she specifically said she was raped by Thomas Ravenel.
Dawn was unaware that Ravenel was going to be arrested today. She told the court that her children as well as his children have been exposed to constant alcohol and drugs.
Dawn also stated “It has affected me every single day,” she said. “It’s not a situation where someone wins or loses. We all lost.”
Content from inside the courtroom was sourced by Harve Jacobs Live 5 News on Twitter.

The victim’s affidavit obtained by Fitz News became public in the hearing and it is very graphic.
“While inside the location (Ravenel’s home), the defendant undressed and made sexual advances on the victim. The defendant grabbed the victim’s hand and placed it on his penis before attempting to remove the victim’s clothing. )While (Ravenel attempted to remove the victim’s clothing, the victim’s underwire bra cut into her skin and her shirt wrapped around her neck, which caused the victim to struggle to breath. The defendant pulled down the victim’s pants and said, “Show me your pussy,” and began grabbing at the victim’s vagina. The victim crouched down to the ground to try and prevent further assault, and the defendant then put his penis in her face and asked, “Do you like big dicks?”  After escaping the assault, the victim called her then ex-husband and sister and told them of the incident, fled the scene and notified several family members of the incident.  Photographs were then taken immediately of the injuries to her neck and chest.” [Source of the affidavit for this story is Fitz News]
Who’s next?

The affidavit also states that detectives interviewed multiple witnesses who were able to corroborate the victim’s claims.  Detectives also have time stamped photographs of the victim’s injuries. The affidavit was filed with the court yesterday. This is the first time the details of the sexual assault have been released to the public.

Ultimately, the Judge ordered Ravenel to turn over his passport to the court, to avoid contact with victim, and not to leave the state.  The judge released Thomas on a $20,000 PR bond. This means that he was released on his own recognizance and the $20K is only paid if he fails to appear.
After the hearing, Dawn told the press, that there needs to be some accountability for Thomas’s actions.

The only thing is Dawn told Kathryn about it. Which makes me think either she was too under Thomas control to do or say anything or too under the influence of drugs/alcohol to do anything.

And I still say JD and Whitney knew damn right well of his behavior.

Isn’t this the same nanny that allowed her 18 y/o daughter to fuck T-rape? Isn’t this the same woman who refused to allow Kathryn to hold her babies and had the kids call her mommy? Is this the same nanny that the courts forced T-rape to fire after Kathryn was given more custody rights?

As Kathryn has stated – once she was told, this wasn’t her story to tell. It had to come from the nanny?

No that’s Deidra. That’s the one that he had to let go because Kathryn didn’t approve of her being around the kids. I think she was bad mouthing Kathryn to the children. I don’t know if he actually let her go because I think that’s the one that Trashley was talking about in her rant on Instagram.

That’s right Pam. Dierdra was the nanny Kathryn had a major problem with. Never a problem with Dawn who seemed a caring and professional woman when we saw her on the show. She gave very young mother Kathryn a lot of support as a nanny, with no reported issues at all.

While in the employ of Thomas Deirdra gave evidence against Kathryn in the custody case, and later chatted to Ashley Jacobs about Kathryn. (All this possibly to turn people against Kathryn with falsehoods and /or exaggeration.)

Deirdra drank alcohol with Thomas and her teenage daughter in front of the little children, allowed Thomas to have a relationship with her teen daughter, and was shifted by Thomas to be housekeeper at his plantation, rather than fired, as had been agreed in the court agreement. A firm Thomas supporter and in his paid staff.

Jenny, WordPress picked a really bad day to be glitchy. I still can’t get the spacing right and when attempting to fix things it looks like some sentences landed in the middle of others. Again, still trying to fix that top part it sort of has a mind of it’s own. The same thing happened in the Cosby post. I would try to move one sentence and it would drop them in random places as well as the place I moved it. It’s a PITA.

No this is Dawn, who hung in there as long as she could so that Kathryn could get her feet under her. Then when she finally left the horrible nanny, Deirdre came. The court eventually made Thomas fire Deirdre but he simply changed her job description on paper and sent her off to Edisto. Now why would he do that?

It’s so uplifting to see someone who tries to destroy the innocent mother of his children end up in jail. It’s where he deserves to be and I hope daddy’s money doesn’t buy him out. The stuff he says about the mother of his children is utterly disgusting. May justice prevail here. What he did to Kathryn is clearly the tip of the iceberg. Poor Dawn.

I definitely think he’s patholical and s narcissist. He love-bombed Kathryn, promised her the world of she was pregnant, then emotional abused and tried to destroy her. I almost think he’s a sociopath because watch him when he gets Landon, Ashley or even Patricia to go after Kathryn. He enjoys it.

He seems like he had s demonic side. When he came for Chelsea, that look in his eyes scared me. Both women described that same look in his eye. I only hope his kids never saw that seething rage. We all thought he was so evil to let the kids live in the back house. Now I think he did them a favor.

He was let go on his own personal recognizance. That essentially means he isn’t a flight risk. It has nothing to do with money.

I 100% believe he is guilty but I don’t think he is poor. He could easily take a second mortagage in any of his properties if he doesn’t own them outright to post a mere 20k. He could give up a car for that price.

Let’s stick to the facts. And the facts are his future isn’t looking good.

Things don’t go like on scripted TV. Responsible prosecutors want to get irrefutable evidence to NAIL the perps. Sometimes, they get only one shot. Especially when there is money for good lawyers. We don’t even know yet what else they uncovered. Look at Cosby, once one came forward, others did too. I would bet Dawn is just the beginning, others may have been afraid no one would believe them or that it was them against the Ravenel “machine.”

I hope that Kathryn and her children have solid 24 hour security protection. Imo, she should ask the court to order it and no way he should be anywhere near the children. Other men have become unhinged under similar circumstances, in particular if drugs and alcohol are allegedly involved, and as there allegedly seems to be timely corroborating evidence. Imo, they should not have let him go.

In regards to T-Rav’s family, his Daddy and sisters – do any of your sources have any knowledge of what perhaps their plans will be now that all this is being revealed and coming to fruition? Is Daddy going to fund the bill simply to clear that “precious family name” as per status quo or do you think they finally stop enabling and basically encouraging the horrible and illegal behavior of T-Rav? However, there are several degrees of sexual assault that are felonies that should be considered. I am waiting a response from my legal contacts in CHS to clarify that and the weird PR bond.

Complaints can always be amended and refiled to either upgrade or downgrade charges, up until the time the defendant is sentenced. The Prosecutor’s Office will have their own team of top-notch investigators, and any information they also turn up can impact the case. I’m wondering if that office will end up having to declare a conflict of interest if high-ranking prosecutors are friends of Thomas’s – those powerful people often hang out at the same country clubs and move in the same social circles. They’ll have to be very careful whom they choose to take the case to court, so as to avoid any talk of cronyism or conflict.

The way I understand the process is that someone makes a complaint with the police. The police investigate. If the investigation shows probable cause that a crime was committed the person is arrested and charged with breaking a law. Then the person makes their first appearance aka arraignment. The police explain their charging theory and the defendent enters a plea. If they plea is not guilty the the case is given to a prosecutor.

In the case of Thomas, he was arrested and arraigned four hours later. The prosecution learns of the charging theory put forward by the police at that time. Once they receive their case, they begin their own investigation and evaluate the evidence and eventually they are ready for a trial. The prosecutor ultimately decides the charges that will be filed before the trial based on their investigation, or they could decide that they did not find enough evidence to support any charges at all. All of this info is given to the defense in advance of the trial. So we are only at the first sentence of this paragraph.

The next court date has been set for November but I doubt either side will be ready by then. then the holidays will come and I predict there will be no significant forward movement in this case until 2019 but that is just my opinion. Prosecutors are busy and these things tend to drag out. They may go to court in November as planned just to announce the charges and allow the defense to prepare accordingly.

You never know what might happen. But my prediction is this will drag on for a long time.

Tamara, thank you for the clarification – that’s very different to what I’m familiar with. Not getting cases unless a not guilty plea was entered would have saved us a whole lot of work! In the county where I was employed, the police took a report, investigated, then (if the elements of the crime were present) recommended charges or wrote a citation, and then (according to the type of crime involved – lesser citations went directly to the Court) it was forwarded to the D.A. for a filing decision. After review, a complaint was either filed by the D.A.’s Office, the case was rejected , or possibly placed under Further Investigation if follow-up was needed. Fascinating how differently things are done in different jurisdictions. Can’t wait to see where this one goes.

“What goes around comes around” “Karma” or “Thomas’s Comeuppance” Whatever you want to call it…. It’s about time! ???

I do feel for Kensie and Saint as I thought KD and Thomas seemed to be co-parenting well together ? Although I can’t forget how Thomas treated and lied about KD, ultimately turning everyone against her for 3 seasons. I believed then and always will that he was a major part of her decline into drugs.

It makes me so happy that Katherine has turned her life around and Thomas has finally fallen down. ? Really proud of her strength and I hope that she NOW gets all the much needed relief and happiness she deserves!

The details of the incident involving the nanny are even more disgusting and tawdry than I had expected. His reputation has been in the toilet for a long time, and these revelations will do nothing to help him look any better than the despicable pig he is. Wonder if Ashley will continue to carry a torch for him – in her mind, it might make him seem more vulnerable and likely to respond to her acting as though she’ll take care of him. He seemed to like that silly babyish behavior she was exhibiting when they were on Southern Charm (“I’m the only one who cares”, “we’re in this together”). If she’s smart she’ll distance herself completely – she’s already done enough damage to her own reputation, which, as a nurse, will do her career no good.

Dawn has spoken about this publicly, Do you really think Kathryn would be complicit in sexual assault.? Dawn stayed on out of concern for Kathryn and Kenzie. She eventually told Kathryn what had happened and Kathryn confronted Thomas and they fought and it fractured the relationship even further. Kathryn had to do what she had to do to keep Kensie.

Deirdre is the nanny Kathryn didn’t want around the kids and the court made Thomas fire. He fired her as the nanny and then made her house manager at Edisto. Because he is a dick and something is going on there.

The term rape has a variety of legal definitions that vary from state to state. I’m currently waiting for some legal guidance on the situation in SC. However, it certainly seems to be a sexual assault with physical injury that goes beyond the current misdemeanor charges. I just want a conviction. If a more serious charge would put that in jeopardy, I’m fine with three full years on this lessor one. But we shall see if the charges change.

I don’t know about the laws in S.C. but here in Washington it is possible to be a sex offender and still have custody of your kids. Depends on who your crime was against and all. Obviously if it was against their own kids or other ones then nope to custody. If it were an adult rape then they may still have custody or even visitation.

It warms my heart that the #MeToo and the #BelivesSurvivors meme’s are there. I posted both on facebook with little response, and did thank those that clicked “love”

Ravenel is part of the males that feel because of their social status and money are above the law. It is my hope that the powers to be wake up and protect their family members either male or female.

Three years is a long time, but when you consider the powerful network a prominent, wealthy family has, there are LAYERS of shite to wade through and avoid.

I notice there are no drug charges YET. One can wonder if there will be some in the future. Part of due diligence would be to investigate the part of Dawn’s statement about drugs. One can only — at this point — wonder what was found. And if CPS will come in to play.

I hope Dawn takes TRav to civil court to get some money. This kind of trauma does affect one’s ability to earn to full potential, plus the costs of any counseling add up. She had better act quickly before everything not protected by trusts is hidden away.

That type of behavior in South Carolina is a misdemeanor? I’m shocked. I understand they would have a hard time proving penetration or actual rape, and I guess it’s at least better than Simple Assault. It doesn’t appear to reach the level necessary for Assault and Battery in the First Degree, which requires that the crime was likely to result in death or great bodily harm, and certainly not Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, also a felony, involving physical contact, which results in great bodily harm or in a manner which was likely to produce death or great bodily injury. Great bodily injury includes permanent disfigurement or loss of use of a limb.

Doesn’t South Carolina have the equivalent of a Sexual Battery, California Penal Code section 243.4, which can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony? It states as an example, holding someone down while you unbutton their pants and put your hand inside their underwear, which would normally be a felony. He also allegedly placed her hand on his penis and groped her genitals. Sounds like a solid felony Sexual Battery to me, but I don’t know if they have the equivalent of this charge in S.C..

Maybe there’s someone who’s familiar with South Carolina statutes who could explain this? I worked for a County Prosecutor for many years, but have never been to law school and am not an attorney, and would love to be educated in this matter. I just hope he’s not going to get off easily – there is a potential prison sentence of up to three years, so that still makes this a serious charge, as opposed to misdemeanor charges in California which have a limit of up to one year in County Jail.
