Bill Cosby Sentenced to 3-10 Years In State Prison

September 25, 2018 by tamaratattles 108 Comments

It’s a bad day for alleged and convicted sexual predators. Bill Cosby was sentenced to three to ten years in state prison today. Cosby was found guilty in April of three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004. Cosby’s trial was the first major celebrity trial and conviction in the #MeToo era and conviction emboldened both the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements.

Judge Steven O’Neill handed down Bill Cosby’s sentence in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania court Tuesday afternoon at 2:10 pm.  “This was a serious crime, Mr. Cosby this has all circled back to you. The day has come, the time has come.” He practically said “times up!” Then he told Andrea Constand, “I heard the very clear impact on your life.”

The prison system will determine the exact amount of time he will serve under Pennsylvania law. It’s a strange but old law in the state where the prison system will use an established formula for the prison to determine the exact time to be served.

It’s official! The judge has denied bail to Bill Cosby! He will be remanded to prison within moments. Andrea has left the courtroom happy. The courtroom is currently being emptied, presumably because Cosby is about to be handcuffed and the lawyers have asked that he not be handcuffed in the courtroom despite there being no cameras there. Cosby is now being taken to jail.

Bill Cosby walked out in handcuffs in front of the cameras JUST NOW!

UPDATE! One of Cosby’s publicists is claiming racism and sexism(??!!) and going off on a very bizarre rant that makes me question his sanity. He’s claiming falsified evidence, and all sorts or weird shit. He’s losing his mind on TV! The publicist yells at the crowd that anyone who wants to say anything negative about Mr. Cosby is a joke.

Camille Cosby’s publicist is also screaming about a tape recording being doctor and that false evidence was used to convict. She is claiming that the recording of the phone call that Andrea’s mother made was edited to make Cosby look bad.

I’m feeling a little sick and a lot of hatred toward this man, as I am sure many survivors of sexual abuse are today. Thoughts are with those who have been triggered by this lengthy trial, and hope that it brings us all some resolution. #metoo

Predators need to be housed away from the general population. This sentence sends that message, that and it’s never too late to come forward, if you’re a victim of sexual abuse.

I can’t help but wonder about his wife or for that matter Kavanaugh’s wife, Weinstein’s wife, Sandusky’s wife. What did they know and how can women work together to stop this mess. As a survivor myself I know the damage. I also know that others knew and felt helpless to stop it.

Who knows how much they knew. The whole Polanski scenario showed how people in that business will excuse away or turn a blind eye to whats in front of them. I hope this is the start of a long list of creepers and shitheads (men AND women) getting whats coming to them!

Thank you TT for making this such a comfortable site/forum to comment in.

Like others here I was a victim of sexual abuse, and in my case it happened in high school, as it allegedly happened to many of Kavanaugh’s accusers. No, I didn’t report it. And I am saddened to say the nature and severity of this group attack took it’s toll on me to the point I developed agoraphobia which in turn made me full on disabled.

Unlike some in this Administration I do not believe my attackers were children but found them to be young men who calculated they could get away with, at the very least, an attempted rape without consequence. They were right. Part of the reason I didn’t file charges were their defenders who, upon discovering what the young men did, defended their behavior to me, the victim. Everyone from their then girlfriend to their moms to their sisters turned on me, their accuser, to beg for my liency and to not report their “youthful ignorance and enthsiasm”.

I will be with all of you in spirit during the upcoming march.. The rest of you who choose not to believe these multiple accusers, believe what you want but as long as you choose to ignore ANY possibility of guilt and defend the innocence of a possible sexual predator understand your duplicity in women shaming and future such attacks.

Whatever Camille Crosby knows, she has been on a mission in the past several weeks prior to sentencing to have the judge removed. She has tried multiple avenues and has attempted to have ethics charges brought against him.

IMHO, this was a deliberate attempt to intimidate the judge and influence his sentencing decision.

Both Cosby and his wife display the kind of superiority that comes with immense wealth, and a belief that the rules do not apply to them.

I keep thinking about all, those pudding commercials and how much money Jell-o lost from this, if any. Just from a sociological standpoint.

At the very least, Georgina (according to dozens of firsthand witnesses) was present for disgusting verbal abuse and pushing and shoving of staff members, women being called stupid c**ts etc for small infractions like packing wrong or not foreseeing Harvey’s needs. She is either very mentally beaten down or complicit.

I still think that Georgina, with those looks, could have had her pick of many wealthy men who were better-looking (well, that’s 90% of Earth’s population). So I ASS-U-MEd that he must have had some charm along with that money.

“We are aware of significant evidence of multiple house parties in the Washington, D.C. area during the early 1980s, during which Brett Kavanaugh, Mark Judge and others would participate in the targeting of women with alcohol/drugs to allow a ‘train’ of men to subsequently gang rape them,” Avenatti wrote Sunday

“There are multiple witnesses that will corroborate these facts and each of them must be called to testify publicly.”

The republicans in this thread, just like the senators who will vote on both sides of the aisle have already made up their minds before hearing testimony.

In this country this would cause them from being eliminated from the jury for a pickpocket trial, yet for a lifetime Supreme Court nominee, it’s just fine.

The number of women unwilling to hear her testimony before defaming her is disgusting.

The first thought that came to my mind was that he’d probably kill himself before he ever sets foot in prison. The judge, however, took that opportunity away from him because he’s sending him directly to prison. It’s about time someone is actually held accountable for what he did.

I believe the judge needs to find that there is a significant appealable issue and the defendant has a substantial chance of winning in order for him to be allowed to remain out of jail during the appeal. At least that is the rule in federal criminal cases.

I am glad the judge resoundly rejected the defense arguments and sent him to jail immediately.

I just wish this had happened during The Cosby show when he was very actively drugging and raping multiple women. It’s a terrible shame he got away with this for Decades!! Now he is old, and legally blind. Better late than never . If only Janice Dickerson and other victims had not been afraid to report him, many other women could have been spared this horrid man’s sickness.

Cosby has not allowed any unbiased entity to determine if he is indeed “blind” but now the prison will be able to do that. They also wanted to give him a mental exam to see if he was… I forget the term… but basically violent and he refused that test as well.

Cosby isn’t the first defendant to claim some sort of illness should preclude a prison term. Bureaus of Prison take the position that they can handle any and all inmate illnesses. And the claimed disability is usually a transparent effort to avoid prison.

Did anyone notice that he doesn’t appear to look anyone in the eye? And his demeanor seemed flat. I would suspect he had taken anti-anxiety medicine, but there were reports that not only was he casual and laughing during court breaks, he was giving attitude when the court issued its opinion on sentencing — snorting when the judge mentioned the effect his crime had on Andrea and giving attitude when the requirements of his “predator” finding were explained to him.

I remember how self-important he became with his success. His behavior behind the scenes of his show was obnoxious. And his insistence on being called “Dr” Cosby when that title is not used for PhDs except in education settings.

I can only imagine what happens when the reality of this hits him. I hope he is not given celebrity status by the inmates. He doesn’t deserve any special treatment.

Another victory is that the judge declared Cosby a Sexually Violent Predator. That right there meant no bail. It also means he has monthly counseling, must alert police anywhere he goes outside of Montgomery County PA for the rest of his life.

My favorite part is that he will now be remembered in history as “Sexually Violent Predator Bill Cosby”

Line my pockets? LoL. I think every person who does the things some of these men have done should be in prison. I also think false accusations are horrible too. Of course you believe her. Not one split second have you thought it could be false.I’m not arguing with you it’s useless. You made up your mind and can only see your opinion. Like I said earlier why is Bill Clinton not in prison? I guess you think what he did is ok??? Double standards.

Ok, I’ll bite. Did you ever use that same line of thinking to question whether Clinton’s, Cosby’s, Weinstein’s, Ravanel’s, etc attackers are being truthful? I’m guessing not. There’s nothing wrong with saving opinion on a case until the legal process has taken it’s course and all the evidence has come to light. You’re not required to automatically hate on a man or woman just because they’ve been accused of something. Innocent until proven guilty and all that. That being said, in no way is it appropriate to call the accuser an out and out liar without a shred of evidence to back that shit up and cherry picking who you want to believe based on their political affiliation is, for lack of a better word, retarded.

I don’t give a rip if he is in office or not…speeches, books…he and HC are still raking in the bucks and treated as flipping American royalty in many circles…..she just ran for president, right? And could run again, who knows. She is to just as f—– guilty as he is…they’re still playing, as you say.

Brenda, If your intention was to have intelligent discourse with someone here about the Kavanaugh nomination, coming in with the statement “I agree Squirrel. I don’t believe for one second Kavanaugh is guilty.” was neither mature or inviting for others to see your view.

Any time you are on a forum that is majority female, you should assume that many of them have been victims of sexual abuse. Those of us that have lived the experience often recognize signs that others do not. In addition, the accusers have not yet been heard from, the committee seems to be trying to dissuade and exclude their testimony and some of us have seen this play out before with Anita Hill.

Your flippant comments is flippant and hurtful to survivors and frankly nauseating when the comments come from women. Then again, we still have women who have Trump as their Twitter banner and love him despite his sexual predator ways and constant gross and derogatory toward women and minorities and third world countries. It saddens us that even some women do not support victims of male sexual predators. Even still it is something we hope those people never have to experience it in order to have compassion.

First I want to apologize to anyone that my comments hurt. I absolutely didn’t mean to hurt anyone. I guess I just try to see both sides of a situation. What if Kavanaugh isn’t guilty? What a horrible thing for him and his family. Never having gone through some of the horrible things others have, I can’t say how I would feel. Please don’t think I have no compassion for everyone, because I do. Do you see how I was misjudged because of insensitive comments I made out of not thinking? Nothing I said was meant to hurt anyone but obviously it did and I do apologize. None of this should be about politics at all. These are peoples lives and the truth needs to come out. Thank you for putting me in my place TT, and again I am sorry if my comments hurt anyone. I’m really not a mean person.

Good Morning, Brenda! I think this particular situation has a lot of people raw. For women who have been on the receiving end it is a bit difficult to see people and especially women trying to determine what it is that is “bad enough” to get a man fired from a job or remove him from consideration for a job.

It seems like the public is just trying to weigh in on whether or not activities from his teenage years are “bad enough” to keep him from serving in the highest judiciary position in the country.

As survivors of sexual assaults we would feel a lot safer if the judges that make it to the supreme court were nine people who didn’t have inappropriate sexual allegations in their history. We already have Clarence Thomas in such a position and it seems like we could find nine people that the entire country could view as being of good moral character and advocates for women.

Many of us are already uncomfortable that the highest office of the executive branch is currently held by someone who objectifies women. We would simply like it if we could find in this country nine or ten people who have not objectified women in their lifetime to hold these important offices.

Instead, we have politicians from all political parties who are willing to overlook the character of the candidates to move along a political agenda.

At the very least we would like a clear inventory of the character of these candidate to be taken rather than simple pushing them through the process withhout carefully vetting them.

Those of us who have been victimized by men find this to be the most important part of the process. Those of us who have not been victimized are more focused on the political outcome of the who ends up in office (which is also very important,)

It seems logical enough to us to fully at least fully hear out ANYONE who has had experiences with these candidates and to fully vet the nominees.

Brett Kavanaugh was employed by Ken Starr in the investigation of Bill Clinton at that time felt very strongly that he should be fully investigated about his allegations.

              https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/kavanaugh-clinton-questions-713428/

So it seems odd that he is so hostile now that he is the person being vetted.

So Brenda, I think you are doing a great job of having the type of open dialogue that helps us understand each other here.

And HEY, look at us not calling each other cuntsatchels or retards!

This whole listening to each other crap may be worth exploring.

Fuck me. I blame the mountain waddling for my clear thoughts and civil discourse.

              xo

Now with this third victim, we know a bit more. She is calling for an FBI investigation. I think that’s a good idea.

If Kavanaugh doesn’t bow out today, I will be marching for ALL of us tomorrow who are there in spirit, if not in body.

To be truthful most times I just open my mouth and s*** rolls out. My Mother used to tell me all the time, “Brenda that mouth is going to get you in trouble.” I just wanted to be fair to all involved and it came out wrong. I really have no political agenda. I think anyone guilty should have to pay or if not guilty be exonerated. XoXo

I hardly recognize the old man in the above photo. We were ALL raised on the Bill Cosby Show. Jello “pudding faces” were regular entertainment at our dinner table. He was a beloved icon. I don’t even know what to say except that this can never be allowed to happen again. If just one person can find the courage to speak up/stand up, say something, we can stop these terrible crimes against women by self indulgent/entitled men. We are better than this!

The only good thing to come out of this is that women have come together and found strength and power in numbers. It is saddening that there are so few role models for young men when you’ve got Presidents, athletes, priests, actors and even family members enacting such horrible crimes against women. Some of which still holding their posts regardless of the terrible things they’ve said and done. The only message that sends is if you’re very rich and very powerful you’re untouchable.

Excellent point! I was a rape crisis counselor for five plus years, working the hotline from midnight to 8am Saturdays and Sundays (I was working the other days) and co- facilitating sexual assault support groups (we did 8 week closed groups) and accompanying women for rape exams (we had make advocates as well as female and the called or client could choose the gender of their supporters. Yes we had lesbian advocates and worked with other agencies to support everyone.

The guys have a harder time reporting, talking about and processing sexual assault at any age.

And it should be remembered that all offenders are not male, not all white, not all straight.

The group that got their hands on me were make and female. Their goals were to cause disdiciation, harm, terrufy, torture, threaten and silence kids.

So me too has to include all and potential offenders can be anyone.

        It all sucks.
