We start with MJ’s wedding planning. She promises not to be a bridezilla. As long as everyone goes exactly how she wants to. She wants to incorporate a lot of Iranian customs into her wedding. Vida says explaining them all during the wedding will be boring. It’s old-fashioned. MJ is going to do all the Iranian rituals to insure a happy marriage whether Vida likes it or not.
Adam has officially become Jewish as of this day. Reza and Mike meet with him at a restaurant to celebrate. We get a flashback to Jessica’s conversion to Judaism. Mike seems to be saying that they broke up because she was not Jewish an Iranian instead of the fact that he can’t keep his dick in his pants and was cheating on her all over town. Morgan is not Jewish and so he’s really not that into her.
Destiney and MJ meet up to talk about Destiney’s family. Destiney’s father took off to Iran when her mom was pregnant with her and she didn’t see him until her mom tracked him down when she was ten. They didn’t really connect. She told him that he wasn’t her father because her father would never leave his daughter or her mother. He told her she was not his daughter because my daughter would never speak to me like that. Destiney darts off the bathroom to cry off camera, but MJ and the camera follow her anyway.
Golnesa meets Nema for a photo shoot with for her new pot line. Golnesa wants to have a baby by next year with a guy who doesn’t want a relationship with her. I’m not excited by her wardrobe choice.
Reza meets with his therapist. With MJ’s dad dying Reza starts to wonder how he will feel when his father dies. He has a lot of anger toward him. His dad has dementia now and needs his family but Reza is resentful because his father never had time for his family while he was healthy. The therapist plays the part of his father and let’s Reza spill out all of his resentments. Reza thinks he will be an amazing, very hands on and involved father. He wants to break that cycle. Part of him is worried that he will end up repeating the cycle.
This episode should have been called “Daddy Issues.” Destiney’s mom, “Tammy” comes over to her house. I don’t believe for a second this woman’s name is Tammy. Destiney is crying about the past. She tells her mother she closed off when her father died. Reza shows up and interrupts the conversation. Reza has known her mom for a very long time. “Tammy’s mother says her father dies when she was three months old.” Destiney’s mother is against her finding her father and wonders what would happen if they met other than her just sitting there crying. She’s been crying in every scene she’s been in the entire time. In the end her mom agrees to help her through meeting her dad.
Mike and Morgan go bowling with MJ and Tommy. Mike thinks Morgan at 26 is more mature than the three 40 somethings she is bowling with. That’s not a testament to Morgan, it’s an embarrassing fact about the other three. Well, two. I don’t agree that Tommy is immature. He’s always off camera because he owns a company and is always at the office working like a normal grown man. The girls can’t bowl so it is basically mano y mano. Then Mike accuses Morgan of cracking his bowling ball.
Golnesa’s parents stop by her apartment for take-out Chinese food. Her mother is very proud of her starting her business. Golnesa doesn’t even know how to get a credit card. Golnesa wants to hire someone to run the company for her. Le sigh.
MJ and Tommy meet Reza and Adam for dinner. In her talking head, MJ let’s us know that she is in on the joke when it comes to her numerous crazy outfits. She says her talking head look is a rejected figure skater from forty years ago. She’s right. But I like it. Actually it looks like an all cast dinner as everyone else starts showing up. And it’s a nightclub not dinner. Way too many bottles are coming out already. This will not end well. Reza invites everyone to Vegas for MJ’s bridal shower. I’m a bit miffed I wasn’t invited to that! How fun would that have been? MJ invites Morgan to her wedding and lets her know she will meet Mike’s parents there. That’s really about the only thing of consequence that happened.
Reza goes with Destiney to meet with the P.I. Reza has been in pretty much every scene this episode. Reza tells her she should have dealt with this a long time ago because it’s holding her back. Destiney said that ten years ago her mother tracked down her father and she went through his suitcase at her mother’s house. He had lots of fake(?) IDs from jobs in places like Japan, Russian, Nigeria, Egypt, and other places. She doesn’t know what his job was. He speaks seven languages. The P.I. who I believe is Iranian asks how he could learn seven languages in Iran. Destiney doesn’t even know if her father has siblings or how long he was married to her mother. There is not much to go on.
Mike is ordering Morgan around to hurry and get the table set up for Passover. Mike has decided to host his family’s Passover in his new home. Morgan is not Jewish so she is learning how to set up all the rituals from Google. Adam helps her with the flowers when he arrives while Mike barks orders. When he goes to get dressed he tells her to have Reza wiped down all the counters. Reza just pours a glass of wine and laughs. A Muslim friend of Mike’s who is a Prince from Abu Dhabi arrives bearing gifts for Mike including a gold Cartier love bracelet. I need to meet this Prince!
After the lengthy Jewish rituals, Morgan moves quickly to set up the buffet. Reza helps her out. Tommy says he is not coming to Vegas for MJ’s bachelorette party. That’s her weekend. He’ll have his bachelor party in NJ and that will be his time.
Apparently Morgan cooked all the food as well. This is a huge family Thanksgiving sort of feast. It must have taken her days. I thought Mike’s parents were coming? I thought he was going to throw Morgan out. Perhaps that happens next week because the show ends with the midseason trailer.
