I wasn’t planning on doing a post about this because I won’t be able to watch or record the 9 pm hour because I have to recap RHOOC and tape my favorite show Castaways! But I was so happy to see Henry Winkler win an Emmy for best comedy actor. He was tickled pink and it was a surprise. It was his sixth nomination (five in this category) and first prime time Emmy win. He has previously won two daytime Emmys for children’s programs. It was very exciting to see him win.
The show he won the award for, Barry, just won another award. I haven’t heard of it but it is on HBO and I am going to try to check it out On Demand. Here is the premise, “Barry follows former United States Marine Barry Berkman, who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles to kill someone and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the L.A. theater scene.” Sounds good to me!
I love how two of the female winners that were shocked both said “Oh fuck!” and one added “Shit!” before getting up on stage.
The comedy skits are really boring so far. I’m disappointed.
Watching this awards show is just a reminder of all the good shows I am missing to recap shitty reality shows. I’m just saying. I hate how they have no chyron’s with the winners name and show because half the presenters are mumblemouths.
Claire Foy won lead actress for The Crown. I thought it would go to Sandra Oh for Killing Eve and I hope that it might go to Tatiana Maslany for the final season of Orphan Black where she brilliantly played five or ten characters each week. Claire was as shocked as I was and shouted out to Sandra Oh specifically and the other nominees in general. Sandra’s mother is next to her and seemed to lean over and inquire if that woman on stage had her award. 🙂 #TigerMom
I’m back from recapping RHOOC. Did any white people thank Jesus (other than Chrissy Teigan) during the middle hour of this show? Also, I need to move along. I am starving.
Ah! It’s time for the reality competition award! Finally some things I’ve watched. Ru Paul’s Drag Race beat out TAR, Project Runway, Top Chef and American Ninja Warrior. It looks like they showed a very old season of Project Runway perhaps to show a Bravo clip? I didn’t recognize the clip at all. Anyway, YAY! FOR DRAG RACE! They seemed to be a huge crowd favorite. A million people came up on stage. Ru gave the speech.
SNL won best comedy sketch show. Lorne Michaels is producing the Emmys this year and the SNL weekend update guys were hosting. Lorne talks about the prediction that network TV won’t be around for long. I’m slightly irritated that good shows are going to Amazon Prime and Netflix and other places. Call me old-fashioned but I want to watch TV shows ON THE TV LIKE GOD INTENDED!
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver won outstanding Talk show. He forgot to thank Jesus.
The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story won for outstanding limited series. Ryan Murphy looked stunning in his acceptance speech in a shiny pink jacket. This makes me hopeful that Darren Criss will win the best lead actor award. Ryan didn’t mention Darren in his speech.
I don’t know a single nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series. This makes me have major FOMO. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won and also won two awards in the first hour. It’s an Amazon Prime show apparently.
The winner for outstanding drama series went to Game of Thrones. Now I have to Google to see if Darren Criss won for lead male actor in a limited series because apparently I missed that during the middle hour. And he did win! Yes! That was my main interest in this show.
Did you guys watch the Emmys? Or RHOOC? Or both? Or Neither?
